FOOTBALL: Tragedy strikes Duarte family

Former Duarte football player Brandon Lee was shot and killed on Tuesday.

Lee, a 2007 graduate, led the Falcons in tackles with 134 as a senior and 113 during his junior season. He rushed for four touchdowns as a senior, and three during his junior campaign.

Here's a story from our news department.

Father speaks on shooting

MONROVIA - The father of a 19-year-old man shot and killed in Monrovia Tuesday said Wednesday his son was shot in the arm last summer and had recently moved back to Duarte after a semester of college in Fresno.
Willie Lee, 43, of Duarte said his son, Brandon Lee, was unable to play football at a Fresno junior college after being shot and wounded, but returned to Duarte recently to attend and play football at Pasadena City College.
Lee said his son, a former football team standout at Duarte High School, was studying to be a paramedic.
His son was shot and killed at a home in Monrovia on Tuesday night. Police said the deceased man might have been affiliated with a street gang.
Lee said his son was not a gang member but knew people who are in gangs.
The shooting happened at about 7:50 p.m. in the 500 block of Almond Avenue, just blocks from where a swarm of officers raided a home in an on-going investigation into several recent gang shootings.
Monrovia police Lt. Alan Sanvictores said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

Stangfan, you've got to be kidding me. To state the police don't care and want the minorities to die is complete ignorance. 99.9% of the police care deeply about the neighborhoods they work. In addition you moron, many of the police are minorities themselves. You've been brainwashed by Al Sharpton and the rest of the media.. If the police had been more aggressive prior to this incident you would've said they were racist and picking on the kids because of their color....GET REAL

What would your suggestions be to make the area safer? And do you feel uneasy going to area sporting events?

Rest in peace Brandon. We will miss you dearly. You were true a leader to your Falcon teammates. We know you'll continue to watch over them both on and off the field.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Brandon Lee from my days subing at Duarte high. He was a nice and gentle young man. We had some great talks about football. This really hits home, it's completely senseless. Whether black, white asian and what not, we all bleed red. My prayers go out to the Lee family.

By the way, is there a fund of some sort to donate to the families of these kids?

Patrick said:

The Golden Knight Nation sends its heartfelt condolensces to Brandon's family and friends.

This is absolutely senseless and tragic.

Let's not put the balme on the Police. It is your fault that we as Blacks and Latinos are shooting each other. The police can not be on every corner of every neighborhood to make sure we are NOT acting foolish, that's our responsibility. So Blacks and Latinos when you see something going on wrong in your hood, if you call it that, step up to the plate and do something positive, like call the police and not blaming them for our foolishness. To Brandon's dad and grandmom my heart goes out to you. And for the thungs in the hood my prayers goes out to you.

Stop the foolishness

First all of the crazyness in the Northwest of Pasdaena and now this in Monrovia. I literally don't want my child to step outside the door - how crazy is that? Samantha Salas was a good student and Brandon sounded like he was on the right track - my hearts go out to the mother's and father's of these children - how does one ever come to terms with the loss of a child - especially ones with so much promise.

May they both rest in peace - and my God be with their familes during this truly horrific time.

Just wanted to send condolences out to the family and friends of Brandon Lee. It is a real tragedy that these YOUNG men have to lose their lives to such NONSENSE.

The crumbs that these cats are fighting for in the streets aren't S**** compared to the lives that are taken.

RIP Brandon Lee

Brandon LEE was a gd friend of mine.i went to middle school with him and we played against each other in high school.he was a good person.everyone loved him.he also had a lot of mexican friends.so no one can say he hated mexicans.he was loving and there for u when you needed him.he was chased down and shot like he was an animal.he didnt deserve that at all.and too know the police were just blocks away.i hate too say it but it seems as though the police want us too die.they could stop this if they wanted just like they stopped the drugs in the 80's.but they are not doing all they can and we all know this.they dont care about the minorities and their neighborhoods

it kinda soften the blow, to see that he was acknowledge as a college student & football player. everyone is affiliated with someone they shouldn't be. Most of my family is gang related and I'm a stock broker, that does not mean i should loose my life because of they're choices nor does that mean i condone they're life style. every young black man is not A gang member/criminal. Brandon since your not here to speak for your self don't worry we know who you were, and God knows too. My heart goes out to all the families involved.
R.I.P Brandon
