nice one...
thanks for the useful information. I found you from yahoo.
Love the blog here. Nice colors. I am definitely staying tuned to this one. Hope to see more.
Inexpensive Handbags! The albatross of the women of today. Where can you go without him? Still heavy on your elbow or shoulder. But we always wear, right? If you are elegant, but frugal, his taste ran handbags, Louis Vuitton handbags, Replica Replica Balenciaga bags or specially. If they are good replicas, they know it is not true?
Mooney,
I watched some of those old USC/Ucla games and you brought the wood playing fullback. I still believe you were one of the better FB's to play for SC.
Having coached him for 4 years I can tell you there has never been a more humble player of his ability and recognition. He is easily one of the most coachable kids I've had the great pleasure of working with.
As other folks have posted, what you witnessed was an unbridled reaction of pure joy. Considering how close he was to not walking normally again due to lingering nerve damage, the mere fact that he carved out a niche on that team through sheer determination and hard work, it's no wonder he had that reaction.
He is a great young man, a graduate of USC, and everyone would be lucky to get a chance to know him.
P.S. As for my day, the only flips I did were with empty gatorade cups on the sideline...but thanks for the vote of confidence New York.
P.S.S. I did talk with him later that night and informed him he owed me 50 up downs for the celebration...get 'em going!
Happy New Year to all.
MM
Scott G,
There are some really good threads over on Fred's blog. Are there any West side coaches on the verge of retirement? Any HC openings?
That wasn't nice New York. :) Besides, I've been short-handed recently. There's only 24 hours in a day.
All in good time. I was waiting to get the last of the All-Area stuff posted on the blog first. We have some time before the next kickoff.
Not sure what the limitations are Goldenarm.
Yeah, Scott. Have your assistant post threads about the sports that get two hits.
hey scott,
you should have a thread like Fred has about the teams to watch in 2008
NY,
Hmmm.... We look like we will hurt some because of graduation and lack of junior players.
As for as I know, Monrovia should have a good team coming back with playing experience.
I hope the pacific league gets a fair shake when CIF puts the div's together.
Fan,
There is no off-season for great programs, only game-playing and non-gameplaying season.
I'm looking for big things from Monrovia this non-gameplaying season. The New Year is always good for change.
How do things look west of Second Ave?
As I'm watching the 0range Bowl it's obvious to me that USC's JV team would be flipping into the endzone against both these teams. I can't believe the Big 12 and Big 10 sent two teams to BCS bowl games. Stoops from OU looked like a deer in the headlights last night, especially with that stupid visor he was wearing. Those guys still have not recovered from the beating SC put on them a few years ago.
What's crakin NY? We are in off season mode again.
Scott
The blog story (Glendora newspaper)posted on the Trib site takes an
interesting, some would say negative aim and portrayal of bloggers - I skimmed the read only, but much of the comments made by the Glendora paper could apply here as well.
Your options for post reviews/censorship and barring folks from repeated personal attacks are pretty limited, yes?
Is there any market / readership issues, basic $ sources being competed for in this particular instance...just curious
How does the rule book define taunting? If a player does anything other than run full speed into the end zone, somebody could percieve that to be a taunt. If a player starts slowing down several yards out, couldn't somebody argue that he is taunting the slower opposition?
The governing body needs to be careful. I do agree, though, that flipping like that puts a player at unnecessary risk of injury. However, if he is older than 18, the player should be able to take that risk.
If Reed does not make the NFL then maybe he can fly over to China and compete on the US Diving team.
I felt jabbing abdominal pain when Fuller did his flip...the yellow hanky that flew didn't help much, it was a strong run and good night for the Vikes
Reed's elevation was higher, but he semi-jogged his way in and went a shorter distance-likely not gassed in the least and adrenalin pumping at red line - result = good air
Fuller covered maybe 70 yards after TC lost outside contain...and the Rams got only a brief view of his butt pads accelerating out of reach on the visitor sideline...
By the way...anyone know if Reed will become a SundayDude and question 2 - on prep is the flag and infraction defined a "celebration" or does it land under the taunting umbrella?
Reed's flip was quite similar to Fuller's. Both players had nothing but daylight and took off at about the same point.
The other thing that was pointed out by New York was there was no taunting by Reed. Fuller didn't taunt on his either.
Were these players wrong for doing the flips? Perhaps. But, hey, they were humorous to watch.
Desmond is a great young man and a great athlete - if you were in his place you would have flipped as well - Pete Carroll needs to take a pill and relax
hsfbfan
great point - I had forgotten the ND injury..and the rehab and re-entry into the lineup. There was also some stink and mini-controversy raised on the grass density and coverage being a contributing factor...i believe it blew over as unfounded but got heated for awhile.
I agree with NY's premise - this was no taunting, "I am bad to the bone type display"..it was simple exhilaration on did not become a town hall celebration. Caroll voiced his displeasure. I don't see it as a stump call for poor sportsmanship...there are ample examples to illustrate that point in better perspective. If this was showboat...it was a mini-canoe at best
Besides he ran a great pattern and did not nerve freeze and drop the ball as he waited on the underthrow...GOOD JOB DR!!
Maybe he was just excited to be getting out of town before the NCAA puts our program on probation. Thanks Reggie!
I suppose Pete Carrol should be stonefaced after a big win like Bill Bellichek since Carrol has "been there" already, right?
Acting like a moron? You don't get it. He did his flip and that was that. No post touchdown taunting. A fifth year senior celebrating his niche as a special situations player on the national stage.
Uscfan,
If you knew the tough road Reed has had at USC, not to mention a terrible knee injury at ND, you would appericate "the flip". Matter of fact, at one time, he thought his career was over after the brutal knee injury. I personally enjoyed seeing him get excited. It was a nice way to finish his career and a class act by the coaches to design a play for him. There's no way he'll make the pro's so let him and every other true SGV fans enjoy the moment.
New York...if you think scoring a touchdown in the Rose Bowl gives you a free "act like a moron" pass then you just don't get it, do you?
Maybe asking football fans to expect a little class from the game's stars is too much to ask.
It's no wonder so many of today's star athletes have no clue about how to carry themselves in public... fans like New York seem to enjoy seeing a player go into convulsions after scoring. Interesting what amuses people.
Pride? Displays like that make me wish no one knows the clown is from the SGV.
But he did not kill a pig. He scored a TD. It's not as if he pointed at the guy like Fred Davis did.
Act like he's been there before? Come on, pal. Once anybody on this blog gets to or has been where Reed is now then we can set a conduct expectation. Until then, sit back and enjoy the pride of the SGV.
He could have killed a pig at midfield before the game and made the cover of the paper too. ACT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE!!!
Desmond (Eric) Reed KNOWS how to get attention. He may not have got all the playing time he wanted in his college career, but he sure made people notice. Not only front page of LA times, but the lead clip on ESPN SportsCenter. Nice job!
I know him He's a great kid. Extremely hard worker. It was his last game in a Trojan uni and he scored a touchdown in the Rose Bowl. also he made the front page of the LA Times sports page. It was all worth it. Nice job Desmond!
He may have seen some footage of Coach Mooney doing a flip like that in the Rose Bowl against Michigan after taking a handoff from Rodney Peete.
Phenomenal athlete. Can't blame a senior for showcasing his raw talent for NFL scouts. Great elevation.
was he open or what??
he camoed it great by ducking behind the tackle for a split second and then emerging out of the backfield...the somersault reminded me of the Blair/TC game this year...the HB flip drew a flag there as well. Pete Carroll ripped Reed vigoriously on the sideline....veins were popping.
Good elevation on the flip.
He also got a 15-yard penalty for acting like a circus performer in the end zone...I'm so proud.
