An update after the first week of games:

SP won their pool at Redondo Beach. Defeated Redondo #2, defending CIF Div 3 Champ Valley Christian (VC lost their All-CIF setter to a season ending injury in their first match last week) and split with CIF Div 4 runner-up Mayfair (graduated 9 players from '07 team). In Saturday's Gold Playoffs, SP was narrowly defeated by Bishop Diego and Servite and defeated CIF Div 3 runner-up Santa Monica (rebuilding from '07).

Update: South Pasadena's top returning player from last season David Allen (signed with Tulane in football), is still not available to play following an injury he sustained during football season. He will be out for at least another week (now 4 weeks). The current SP players doing a great job picking up the slack for one of the top all-around athletes playing boys vb in the Star News area.

On paper, the RHL with all the returning players, should be competitive across the board. Lots of interesting matchups for sure.

For the comment about Coach Cameron. There's no pressure on a coach like him who's practically done it all in HS volleyball. Scott's teams are always well prepared and execute the fundamentals, particularly on defense.

San Marcos is always a solid team, so nothing to be ashamed of in a loss,

Arcadia Burroughs game this Friday should be a good representation of Arcadia's abilities agaisnt decent teams. A good San Marcos team beat them in 4 but look for a solid offense and lots of jump serves.

Arcadia is going to be the team to beat. They are truly amazing

South Pasadena is and always will be fun to watch, they've always been the solid thru the recent years. Gabrielino has one hitter whom led them to a great season last year and is returning as a junior. Temple City returns a tall middle from what I've heard and the Rams in my opinion, were a diamond in the rough coming up from last season. La Canada had athletic young guys whom improved greatly as last year's season progressed and could be an interesting team to watch this year. I think the pressures on South Pasadena to hold that Rio Hondo title because this could look very open seeing that every team is evens up. Pressures on Scott Cameron from San Marino as well, he won the RHL Title the last 10 years of his boys seasons upon coming back from coaching retirement to coach the Titans for one last season. Not to mention San Marino was the only team to beat the RHL Champs from last year, so it's going to be a League to watch this year.

Speaking of La Canada, they defeated St. Francis today in 3 games.

You just might be right. San Gabriel has been good in the past, but it's always hard to tell early on.

these rankings should change real quick. flintridge and south pasadena will be fun to watch. On the other hand, san gabriel is just not good.

If you saw them play last season, they were a diamond in the rough with good young players. A year later, the talent should be there.

Why is La Canada up there..
