With the season coming to a close, who should be considered for Player of the Year and All-Area?

Ri tore the beat from Only Girl (In The World) apart with those beautiful voice. I really wish that the rest of Loud are just as catchy! Her musical style is great this time around and I absolutely love it.

Nice play by play... I THINK I tried it at the bottom rack last week and it was ok.I tried it out and it turned out so delicious! Thank you!

The Player of the Year is chosen by the coaches, for All-CIF or whatever they call it.

i nominate krystal gutierrez from pasadena high school as well.

first and foremost i feel that THE SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR AND ALL AREA should be chosen and nominated by the coach's of all the area school's.they know the players the best.this kind of nominating on the internet(especially by these "anonymous" ppl)will just stir up & initiate verbal conflicts.

With all due respect to Issa who I am sure is a fine player. Alverno scored:

22 goals in 2 games vs SH of Jesus.

18 goals in 2 games vs Holy Family

16 goals in 2 games vs Bishop Conaty

0 goals in game vs Mayfield

0 goals in game vs Ramona Convent

Your pride in Issa is justified, but your sense of soccer reality is greatly skewed.

Girls' Player of the year
Ameenah Issa - Alverno
21 goals this season and 11 or more assists.

didn't Maranatha beat LC?

sorry mr. boyd!

La Canada's Boyd is hands down the best goalkeeper in the area, even though she played a lot of the season in the field.

Carter Vettese (FSHA) is the area's best all around player. Lindsay Wofford (San Marino) and Nancy Avesian (LC) best offensive players and Sinead Flemming (FSHA) is top defender.

I do not agree with you that either of the teams you were referring to would be the same without their goalies. I haven't seen the other girl play, but Colleen Boyd has let in just 2 goals in the last 10 games and La Canada is undefeated in league. So a D1 soccer player on a league champ team is insignificant and "nothing exceptional"? Come on. Have some sense. I'm not sure if either of those girls will be the player of the year, but give credit to those who deserve it and quit correcting others grammar.

Scott is right. It would be easier if schools called all their scores in. It must be easy to call in scores when you win. It seems like only the girls catholic school on the hill calls in the scores on those occasions they lose.

I agree with soccerfan. Level of competition plays a roll in these things. Many of the Teams in the Rio Hondo League, with the exception of South Pas., run the score up on Blair. Not only does this scew stats for year-end awards like this, but it also shows a lack of sportsmanship on the other Teams' Coaches (more then likely, the players are just doing what their Coach tells them to do).

soccerfan said:

Rankings and awards are silly if you don't take in account the relative levels of competition.......Arcadia has played a tough schedule....Sacred Heart plays anyone who will play them....La Salle takes on tough teams.....LC has 25 goals in two games against Blair....Hopefully common sense will prevail come award time.

Pasadena was in first place until getting knocked off by Crescenta Valley. They were 9-2-1 heading into Tuesday, while Arcadia was 10-2 with both losses to Pasadena. Another prime example of why rankings are near impossible in soccer. Not enough coaches post results and the standings on most sites are wrong.

Carter Vettese....Player of the Year.....

FSHA back in D-1 Playoffs on Vettese goal vs Notre Dame

FSHA defeats Chaminade, Harvard Westlake and Notre Dame Sherman Oaks (twice) in Mission League in same year.
Beat La Salle 4-0, Beat CV 4-0. CV beat La Canada.

Their schedule was second to none in difficulty. It has to be Vettese.

anon 6:08, of course u "didn't get much attention" from her. she was playing a game. i think u mean you didnt notice her during the game, or you didnt pay her much attention. ooops

Neither of these keepers are player of the year material. both teams would be virtually the same with or without the athlete in front of the net. They aren't anything exceptional.

When has Pasadena been in first place in Pacific League? I must be missing something? Please clerify your posting.

I personally have been to PHS games and i didnt get much attention from Christina Herrera. I did get much attention from one of there midfielders Krystal. Also player of the year should clearly be on a winning team like Maranatha.

Anonymous said:

The PHS keeper must have improved a lot this season....or did last season's 5-10-4 record and 44 goals allowed have nothing to do with her performance? It was probably just poor defense.
I think the improvement that PHS has shown this season can be attributed more to a certain "transfer" from La Salle than its goalkeeper.

why are you assuming its someone with christina? Aren't you be doing the same? making it seem that her family would do that?

Bob Anon said:

anon at 6:42, what the heck is your problem?

grow up, and respect other people

Anonymous said:

Anonymous 6:42pm: Looks like you are doing a "hit job" on Colleen Boyd. Are you a relative or teammate of Christina Herrera? Pretty ugly tactics....

dflo said:

christina herrrera from PHS, best keeper in the area. she has incredible reflexes and is an overall spectacular keeper.

colleen boyd is a terrible sport, not exactly mvp material in my opinion. shes known for throwing temper tantrums like a child when things dont go her way.

soccer high school fan said:

Christina Herrera of Pasadena. She has been able to keep the bulldogs alive all four years of her play in high school. There is no other person who can compete with her for this.

JohnM said:

In my opinion the area MVP should be someone on a winning team that the team in question could absolutely not win without.
There aren't too many if those in the area but Carter Vettese is certainly one of them. Boyd, the LC keeper is good but the team wins a lot of games with her on the field and whoever in goal. Maranatha is a team of several outstanding players but take any of them away and the Minutepeople are still very good.
If FSHA makes the D1 playoffs and advances past the first game, it has to be Vettese

Anonymous said:

colleen boyd. Definitely on of the best keepers I've ever seen.

Angelbec said:

I second Carter Vettese at FSHA. This was her standout year.

high school fan said:

Carter Vettese, FSHA.

Anonymous said:

The best goalkeeper in the area is Colleen Boyd from LC. Word is that she has a full ride to Oregon State next year.

anonymous said:

Take a look at #3 on defense for La Salle HS.

Anonymous said:

Wow Chuyito,

It isn't often that you see a father daughter goalie family, I guess her brother Hector is a goalie as well.

Anonymous said:

The City of South Pas should get a ranking for letting the whole world use every one of their fields for AYSO and destroy them. It is the stomping grounds for the San Gabriel Valley youth soccer players.

Soccer: Never met a playing field it couldn't destroy.

chuyito said:

christina herrera, no doubt about it. Great goalkeeper, looks like the best in the area. Has kept pasadena in there. I as a goalkeeper look up to her alot because of her speed great reflexes and great sportsmanship. She greatly deserves this. Dont forget her name cause you'll be seeing it up in lights soon. She'll be up there with the greatest one day.

Hector Herrera said:

Christina Herrera of Pasadena High School. A four year starter for the bulldogs, and the best goalkeeper in the state for her age, she has led the Pasadena high school girls soccer team to first place in the Pacific League and is headed to Cal State Northridge on a full scholarship. Her athleticism and natural skill with the ball is unparalleled with any other female soccer player. Her touch for the ball and intelligence for the game make her an elite player at her position.
