Agreed. On any given day, anything can happen,in playoffs or in league play. On that note, let's support all of our area teams, and that includes Westridge. Snide comments show a lack of class.
Anonymous-- since it appears that you attended the game on the Westridge campus yesterday given your detailed account, you need to know that the goalkeeper suffered a hairline fracture and will not be playing in Saturday's game against Mayfair, which is unfortunate. Please try and refrain from gloating and making any further negative comments about the team on this blog after the game is over. Thanks.
Playoffs are thrilling, and one thing that makes them exciting is that on any given day, anything can happen. A team with an incredible offense may miss every shot and just not be able to get one in the net. The opposing team may make the most of the few opportunities they get and manage to score. Games can be tied and go to PKs. Yes, even underdogs can surprise everyone.
Gotta love it!! Good luck to all of the area teams.
high school fan...I agree. Westridge, Flintridge Prep, Poly and Mayfield would much rather be back in D4 and hopefully will for next season. Westridge has already had a better than expected season and it wasn't because it has a dominant keeper.
Mayfair is the #1 seed in Division III and is favored to win the CIF championship. Their key offensive player, Nicole Hubbard, is about to set an all-time scoring record for Mayfair and has achieved over 130 goals in her career. Therefore, the odds that Westridge will beat them in Round One are about a million to one. Righetti is in the Pac 7 league that was captured by the #2 seed in CIF, San Luis Obispo. Although a weak team, they managed to shut out Lompoc 3-0 during the season and gave up only 11 goals all year. Lompoc is the same team that LaSalle barely beat yesterday in PK's. I agree that the continuing negative comments about Westridge should be directed elsewhere. Give the girls a break.
Is "eachoter" a new formation?
Anonymous, please save your coments to your self, my daughter plays on a team not by her self, she puts in as much effort as anyother player on her team. they are not the best team but they do stick together and play with eachoter, so I beg of you keep your destructive coments to your self.
Keeper parent
anonymous Westridge goalkeeper parent: Maybe Westrdige can save on transportation costs and just send the keeper to future games. It sounds like she can play all 11 positions at once. Why is she wasting her time at the high school level?
Once again the only thing Westridge has going for them is their goalkeeper, again their strikers had plenty of oportunities and missed, and a couple of times with no one in front of the goal. thir keeper kept them in the game with some good saves and a outstanding save on the left uper corner towards the end of overtime to save the game for westridge. I din't think they stand a chance against Mayfair. But who does in division III?
"soccer watcher"...you are correct on both counts. Westridge will likely lose its next game and the Prep League doesn't belong in Division 3. So?
Last time I checked the leage that Westridge is in is pretty weak as well. They had to go into overtime against a team that took 4th in a 'weak league'. Hmmmmm. I wonder what they will do against a tougher team in the first round.
According to maxpreps.com, Westridge defeated Righetti 1-0.
Any scores yet.. Games should be over!
Why is LC vs LaSalle interesting? They've already played eachother once this season. I wouldn't expect the result of a rematch to be different.
not really that interesting
How interesting is the potential cross-town La Salle at La Canada match-up. Let's hope La Salle wins Wed. and sets this one up.
Marshall can beat new roads but then faces a tough div 6 team in viewpoint but i think marshall can beat them.
fan...Westridge should have very little trouble with Righetti. 4th place team from a fairly weak league.
Yeah, Anon. It's been fixed again. It's amazing what kind of trouble you can get into on what should be a day off.
Disregard previous post. My error.
A few more...
Division II-First Round
Pasadena v. Corona del Mar at Pasadena
Arcadia v. Chaffey at Chaffey
Division IV-First Round
South Pasadena v California at California
Anon- Nice. Are you familiar with Righetti's team from Santa Maria?
Scott:
Had to chuckle - you've listed Westridge's game in the boy's playoffs. They'll have a tough enough time in the DIII girls playoffs!
I accidentally left out Westridge. That's been fixed. Crescenta Valley is not part of our coverage area.
You left out a few:
Division II
Wild Card
Wednesday
Crescenta Valley v. Lancaster
Division III
Wild Card

Westridge v. Righetti
