Just a follow-up to anonymous' list of local players who signed on with college teams,( BTW,you are missing a few from Marshall, South Pas, San Marino , Alverno and La Canada), here is an update. Most of those on your list did very well at their respective colleges, and one of them, Annie Martinez, was the first player in Dakota Wesleyan(NAIA)history to place First Team All-GPAC Conference(this as a freshman), setting school records for hits, home runs, and doubles. She turned the trick again placing First Team as a sophomore and setting the lifetime home run record as well. And though she played in the NAIA, she did manage to go 3 for 5 against NCAA D1 pitching. Now, if you look at the GPAC's list for First and Second teams, there are a few other California girls represented. I think that the out-of-state(of course, if In-State is not an option)NAIA, NCAA 1,2 and 3 are a good choice for our Rio Hondo and other San Gabriel Valley girls to get a softball scholarship, with many NAIA and NCAA 2 and 3 giving practically full rides. The midwest is starved for the great types of players we have here. As for Annie Martinez, she transferred to Sonoma State in NorCal, quickly became their best hitter and outfielder, hit a rack of homers in the pre-season, one against Div 1 Cal, awed several NorCal softball fans with her acrobatic "Willie Mays" type catches in the field, and then, before the season began, quit the team to focus more completely on a journalism degree....now THAT was a sad day for college softball.

Not real D1? They lost to UCLA 7-5 in extra innings. Are they a real D1 team?

Okay, you may have a point that some may libel others to promote, but most of us see right through that and the good players to pay attention to this blog anyway because they have to many other things to do. The blog's are for the adults and the complainer. I'm just getting a little tired of anytime somebody states facts or blogs that are close enough to being fact the "slander" card comes out and the "how could you say that about a kid" card comes out. Sometimes I'm reading the entries and I see those comments and I have to go back more than once to see the so called "damaging statement" that the player will never get over.

I just think it's okay to communicate freely without the anonymous baby-sitting entry that is most times from the parents of the player. If you have 15 players on a team and you have a J.V. and Varsity team you have 600 spots from the time you can play as a freshman until the time you leave after your varsity year. We have 6 division players according to the previous post that is 1%. Rio Hondo league is not a strong league. That doesn't make it bad just not strong.

Please don't write back attacking my entry it's just how I feel. Oh yeah, can I have the names of the players your referring too. I know the one girl from Monrovia (the one that taps her chest 8 times before she hits) is playing at Santa Barbara which is not real Division one if you've seen them play.

By the way C.V. will crush La Canada in the first round of the Duarte tournament.

Anonymous said:

OK you are insane,

First of all there are at least 6 kids from the Rio Hondo League that are currently playing Division 1 softball. That is not bad and after this year there will be at least 12 kids from the RHL who will be playing D1 ball. This not mentioning the kids who are playing D2,3, NAIA, and Junior colleges.

And I completely disagree with you that people should be able to speak freely on a High School softball blog. It should be regulated because there are too many people in this area that are willing to slander kids and ruin reputations in order to promote someone else.

Billy Goat said:

What about Temple City in the Rio Hondo League. They are always one of the best coached teams? Don't they have a lot of returning players coming back?

I thought they would be the team to beat and with South Pasadena returning the same pitcher as last year I thought they would get some consideration as well?

I know Monrovia will be coached very well again this year, but do the have the pitching?

San Marino has the weakest coach of the group next to La Canada's new coach. The only reason La Canada gets the nod ahead of San Marino is because the have some very good freshman. They have two freshman pitchers that are going to be very good if they continue to play high school ball. They may just continue with their travel ball teams next year especially with La Canada having three varsity head coaches in three years.

In addition LC has another freshman catcher Anna Edwards that is a very tough kid and she will play catcher. The first team all league catcher from last year lasted one week with the new coach and she quit. That is going to leave a big hole in the LC line up.

Temple City's first baseman Jennifer will challenge for "Player of the Year" honors this year.

The pre season Duarte tournament will tell a lot of where the teams stand. There are a lot of good teams in that tournament.

My Rio Hondo prediction:

1) Temple City

2) Monrovia

3) South Pasadena

4) La Canada

5) San Marino

Oh yeah, if your over 18 you are no longer allowed to cry in this blog. We don't want to hear how someone hurt the feelings of a player or coach because you should be able to speak freely in a blog and the players really don't care what you write. After all its only high school softball and lets face it you're not going to get any college love playing in the Rio Hondo High School Softball League.

Anon 6:43,

It seems a little premature to rank Maranantha so high after a 9-13 rcord last year and not beating any local teams. They should be better because they were young last year, but they should have to prove something before getting ranked.

That is correct, Anon, CV is not part of our coverage area.

Anonymous said:

CV is not in the coverage area and can't be ranked in our area,

am i right scott?

2. CV

3. Alverno

4. Maranatha

6. Monrovia

Sure,

I am interested to see if the other Rio Hondo teams can actually beat Monrovia this year or if a prep team can beat a Rio Hodo team.

Anonymous said:

Looking forward to a great season. The Rio Hondo League should be a battle and the Prep League has a couple of teams that haven't been heard from in a while that have the pitching to make some noise this spring.

anon 7:26AM....do you have anything to add about softball or are you just using this thread to fight your personal battles?

Anonymous said:

Scott,

You can do the bloggers on this site as well as the readers a favor and block the person who posted anon 2:52 and anon 8:59. He is the same person from last year who really made this a negative site. He will continue to do it as long as you let him. This seems to be how he gets his fun.

Anon: That's fine. I didn't think you were talking about me, but wanted to make sure. This is my first year at the wheel of the softball blog.

Anonymous said:

what makes me giggle is all of you are probably old bald fathers with beer bellies, who base your lives around your daughters softball teams!

Get back on the meds. I didn't know that I started a blog but if what you write is accurate the person who did start knows a borefest when they see it.

Anonymous said:

Sorry Scott,

It was directed at Anon 2:52

This is clearly the same guy who started alot of the insanity on the blog last year. He antagonized softball fans about what a terrible sport softball is and started a blog called pasadenapreps.com. His headlines were all about how boring softball is. It is fine if he feels that way, but it is clearly antagonism when he does it continuously on a high school fastpitch thread.

You'll see, he just shoots out nasty little notes that deride softball. I believe the line that he threw out in this blog was the title of his first article he put out on his website.

ScottG said:

Anon 5:20: Who are you addressing your post to? Not sure where you're going with it.

Anonymous said:

Great,

Does this mean that you are going to start another failed blog sight that focuses on how much YOU alone hate softball and tells how much you love Maranantha or one of those schools, like last year?

By the way, the only time you had any hits was when you were talking about softball. Hmmm.

Anonymous said:

anonymous 1:23PM...what a coincidence, it's also the fastest growing cure for insomnia!

Anonymous said:

Girls fastpitch softball is the fastest growing youth sport in the world and this growth is very apparent in Southern California. People get very excited watching their kids play the game and sometimes they get out of hand. I hope that this year we can maintain respect for the game as well as the kids and have discussions that benefit the game and the kids. I suggest that we do this by not calling out individuals and keep our discussions headed in a positive directionand not using the forum to inflame personal vendettas.

Anonymous said:

This blog is always entertaining. It makes me really glad my daughter doesn't play softball. Just knowing there are people like some of you posting here at the games casts a shadow on the "sport."

Anonymous said:

Anon:10:12

You sick @#%#

I said I am not from YOUR area, Cresenta Valley, but I am from the PSN coverage area and I have a kid playing softball. From what I understand CV is not one of the teams that the Pasadena Star News covers. So it is YOU that must get YOUR jollies elsewhere.

Now take your kid bashing stuff away from here and take it to your local area's blog. Hopefully everyone stays more respectful to individual kids than they did last year and doesn't bash them, and please stop making things up.

Scott,

Please help me make this person aware of this.

Anonymous said:

In my opinion Bacon is better Kallie but not by much. So what both will get a chance to pitch and having two great pitchers is a blessing not a problem. There isn't another team in the area with a better 1-2 punch. Their is a team with a better 1 punch though....

Anonymous said:

Anon 10:12,
If you aren't from the area why are you reading about a girls high school softball blog in an area you aren't from. Remeber they can track you down - stay off the blog and get your jollies somewhere else.

Anonymous said:

You really are a "goat person" aren't you? Calling out a young kid and ripping her on the public blog. Then saying that she is "one of the protected kids" is so low class and hurtfull. Funny that the name So Cal Ringers is mentioned. Isn't that the team that was always metioned in the blog last year by parents when they started low class attacks on people?

I am not from your area but i do have max preps and the only listed Freshman, 2nd baseman batted .344 and was listed at having 4 errors (which is considerably better than.100 with 15 errors.) So stop making stuff up and leave indidual kids alone.

GoatPerson said:

C.V. has a pitcher named Heather Bacon who can throw in the mid 60's. She played travel ball last year because her parents are tough to get along with. This won't go over well with the Returning Junior Kallie C. who will be outclassed by Heather Bacon. However Heather can blow up at anytime and the team needs to walk on egg shells around her.

Baillie Kirker is the best player in the state and she will prove it this year if she ever gets a pitch to hit. The Arizona Wildcats are lucky to get her from the mighty Firecrackers. Ashley V. at first is signed with Boise State and the Falcons catcher is signed to a D1 school as well. Third baseman Emily H. is a very good player and had an outstanding run with the So Cal Ringers this past summer and fall. The falcons benefit from outstanding coaching away from high school and that is what really drives this team. The outfield is solid and they are really only weak at one positions and that is secondbase. They played a freshman at second last year and that turned out to be a big mistake as she hit less than .100 and made 15 errors during the year. She seems to be one of the protected kids and her spot is safe.

The falcons need to get better coaching as the J.V. players seem to go backwards by the time they get a taste of varsity. However any team that has Baillie Kirker can win CIF because she is that good.

what about arcadia and cv? does anyone have any info on them?

Anonymous said:

any news on cv and arcadia

Anonymous said:

They are funny because they have no clue about the transformation that teams make in the off season. For instance, Monrovia probably shouldn't be ranked 8th after losing all of their top players and TC and SP should be in there somewhere because they have so many returning. But, it doesn't work that way so the truth is that the rankings are irrelevent, especially in the beginning of the year. Therefore CIF is funny.
