BASEBALL: Temple City advances to Elks title game

Rams defeat Tigers

It had the feel of a Rio Hondo League baseball contest, but it didn’t count in the league standings.
Thursday’s game between Temple City and South Pasadena in the semifinals of the Arcadia Elks Tournament definitely had meaning.
Even without ace pitcher Brian Dearth starting, the Rams had enough pitching to slow down the Tigers bats in a 4-2 victory at Temple City High.
“It was a good, competitive Rio Hondo League game, which is what league is going to be like,” Temple City coach Barry Bacon said. “It was a good, crisp baseball game.”
Will Do crushed a two-run homer, and Dearth added an RBI single to lead the Rams’ offense.
Dusty Sanderson (1-0) pitched five strong innings for Temple City (4-0), allowing one hit and striking out seven.
Dearth came on in relief in the sixth and got the Rams out of a jam by inducing an inning-ending double play.
After allowing a leadoff walk, he struck out the next three batters to end the game and collect his first save.
South Pasadena starter Casey Feldmeth (1-1) suffered the loss.
Will Smiland doubled in a run for the Tigers, while Shane Ravenelle added an RBI single.
