Monday's score from Azusa High School:
Azusa 7 Maranatha 6
Please tell me Covey did not pitch.
This year Poly has 5 returning players, only one of whom consistently started last year.........not quite what you made it out to be, eh MHS>?
Also, Talt is not even close to 100% at this point on the mound. It is really not appropriate to trash talk kids who beat your team -fair and square, no less- on the internet. Don't get me wrong--I would love to see a Poly Maranatha rematch in CIF, but at this point, MHS, I certainly would love to see you swallow your pride and accept that Maranatha was one lucky interference bail-out from being blown out by the Panthers (potentially even mercied).(sorry for the vent, all, I just cannot stand to see personal attacks on a front where kids cannot really stand in and defend themselves).

MHS Supporter,
When referring to Poly's youth.... you obviously overlooked their 2 freshmen starters and sophmore shortstop. Any baseball guy worth his salt would agree that is pretty young.
One thing I haven't missed on this blog is the sometimes inane talk of Maranatha fans (or maybe one fan). The box score says Maranatha committed four errors and scored 1 run on Talt who allowed five hits in four innings. He pitched out of jams several times. Maranatha lost 9-6, yet they are "clearly the better team?" As far as Talt not looking overpowering in the past, MaxPreps says Poly beat Maranatha 15-1 two years ago and 11-1 last year. Which time was being referred to? Finally, as far as the tougher road game against Azusa Monday, is that the school that is 1-4 with its only win against 0-5 Baldwin Park? Maranatha has nothing to be ashamed of, but somebody should just quiet down and let them play.
MHS Supporter: I usually agree with your posts, but something you said this time touched a nerve. The part about saving Covey for a "tougher" road game on Monday didn't quite make sense.
Pitchers have 10 innings a week, and I don't believe he went 10 innings. Yes, Saturday to Monday is a quicker turnaround than Friday-Tuesday, but these are you kids with lots of gusto. I think the part about Azusa being a bigger game than a game against another local team is a reach. I can't imagine Azusa having a guy like Talt on the mound, but I've been known to be wrong before.
Let's all remember the season is early.
Correction - the previous post was intended for Witness and not Baseball
Baseball,
You are right when you say that Maranatha was not the better team. Not yesterday that is. But they are clearly more talented. To make a correction on your statement about Poly's youth vs. MHS. Poly had 5 Seniors start yesterday.
Maranatha had none.
Who's Whinning now?! Your comment about Talt coming off of an injury. MHS faced him last year and he did not look overpowering then either. Certainly not in the class of a Dylan Covey.
MHS is clearly the better team.!
Every Tuesday for Wednesday's paper.
how often are the rankings updated?
HS Baseball Fan/MHS Supporter,
Could'a, should'a would'a.... Whinning is so unattractive. I was also at the game and I wholeheartedly disagree, Maranatha was not the better team.
Both teams are definitely rebuilding and both schools are stocked with underclassmen in their starting line-ups; however, MHS clearly has a longer way to go than Poly.
I too, hoped to see Covey pitch, unfortunately it was not his turn in the rotation.
Why the knock on your #3 pitcher? I thought he threw well.
As far as Talt is concerned, I understand he is coming off of a serious leg injury and has only pitched minimally and only returned to the team last week. He did not look as crisp as he looked last season nor did he throw as hard. He will get better as the season progresses and his leg gets stronger.
He obviously had enough to help his team earn the "W".
In closing, very few players earn full rides to universities, as baseball scholarships are at a minimum. And yes, Stanford is interested in him as a baseball player and he has "decided to go there".
Maranatha falls to Poly 9-6 at home. It would have been nice to have a #1 vs. #1 Talt vs. Covey but MHS had to use their #3 pitcher with three games in four days and a tougher road game at Azusa on Monday. The guys hit the ball well off of Talt and others. I think its pretty clear that MHS is the better team and Talt is not as tough as many pitchers our guys have seen this year already. Does he really have a full ride to Stanford or has he just decided to go there? The Minutemen should bounce back at Azusa on Monday afternoon.
In Santa Monica for the MHS victory. A few observations. Covey was throwin heat. Stayed in command and poor Windward hitters couldn't catch up to his fastball. Several Minutemen batsmen pulling their heads at the plate. Spirit and chatter a little lacking....c'mon fellas, pick it up! Good at bats by Johnson and Covey. Nice start to "league" but need to pick up the intensity. Good luck MHS vs. Poly today!
lasalle loses to saint paul
Marantha 3-0 v.s Winward. Covey dominates in 1 hitter with 15k's and goes 2-3 at the plate. Big one tomorrow against Poly. Talt should throw, we will see if Maranatha can go back to back big wins.
TC 7
LC 5
7-3 heading into the 7th relief pitcher gave up homerun to make it interesting
SM 5
SP 1
Is it not a big deal that SP beat TC?
TC vs LC is at Temple City on friday
SORRY MY MISTAKE GAME IS @ TEMPLE CITY
TC vs. LC Friday is @ LC
south pas just beat TC 3 - 2
where is the tc vs lc game at on friday?
Hey - where's Team Parisi?
Rio Hondo Fan. How can you say that La Canada beat a "very tough highland team yesterday"? You must not have looked at MaxPreps to see that Highland committed 6 errors and still only lost 10-8 to a Highland team who is now 1-5. LC has played a very weak schedule so far but will be tested Friday against TC. While they have a solid team with mostly JRs starting, they have pitching and defense issues. Note that LC has not shown their stats for the last 2 games.
Hey scott,
Great Decision on putting Harmon on the honor roll. He has really stepped it up as a sophmore this year batting 400 and 12 RBIs and only 6 games into it.Its great he got recocgnized.
Scott, Dont mind baseballfan. The La Salle boys dont care what they are ranked and will keep winning no matter what. The loss to St. Francis was a wakeup call and since then the team has outscored opponents about 28-6.
Baseball fan: I probably should've put La Salle above Monrovia. But seeing Monrovia play against Glendora, they seem to have some pop in the lineup, but they threw a kid from the JV team and gave up 8 runs in the second inning. So taking that into consideration, it wasn't a true 12-4 game. Alhambra somehow lost to Western Christian, but seem to be back. At this point, I can't put La Salle over them, especially with Noe Ramirez on their side. And, as Gabrielino, that's actually a good team. Although a young team, if La Salle continues to win, it'll move up.
la canada beat a very tough highland team yesterday,... LC vs TC on fri... should be a tough game for both teams
hey baseballfan
it's hard to read my screen with all your crying..
let me guess you were always left out as a kid.. were you always picked last at p.e.
Check out Rio Hondo. Boys are undefeated. JV girls beat Arcadia the other day.
Amazing for such a small school.
how the hell do you put Monrovia ahead of la salle when they beat monrovia lost to the # 1 team st francis and then came 3rd in the tournament....while monrovia hasn't beat anyone they beat mountain view gabralino Pasadena and another horrible team....la salle should be at least 4 maybe 3 cuz of who they beat and how they have played not 5th behind Monrovia and Alhambra.....disappointed Scott
