FOOTBALL: All-Star game date and site set

Fresh off the Tribune blog: The date and site have been set for the annual Hall of Fame Senior All-Star Game.

The game will take place on Friday, June 27 at Bassett High School. The two coaches already have been selected. South El Monte High School's Erick Escamilla will handle the West squad, which is made up primarily of Star-News schools and those from the Mission Valley League. The East team will be coached by La Puente's Ray Hernandez. Bassett coach Leon Ward is once again the director, so coaches should get in contact with him about nominating seniors for the game. You can start by telling us who should be in the game.

My Thoughts: Taking absolutely nothing away from what Escamilla did with South El Monte High's team this past season, but if this is supposedly and East San Gabriel Valley vs. West San Gabriel Valley game, shouldn't the coach of the West be from the West Valley? Blair's Tip Sanders, Muir's Ken Howard or Pasadena's Kevin Mills would've been nice choices.

This should be another great game.

I am not in reality definite if best practices cover emerged around things like that, except I am sure that your great work is clearly discovered. I was wondering if you offer several subscription toward your RSS feeds because I would be extremely concerned.

Well I guess "STUPID" is and "STUPID" does, because "Huck" should be capitalized! It's a pro-noun "DUMMIE"! Boy, these people are so funny!!!!! School your self! Did I get that right?

Scott,

How do they pick the San Gabriel “All-Stars”? I would think the seniors that made 1st and 2nd team in the West and East would make the respective teams. Thanks

You are correct Dawg.

DAWWGER said:

Scott, was Arroyo HS moved to the East side? I know Arroyo use to host the game for many years and they were always on the West Team.

Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?

Anonymous said:

Scott,

who does pick the teams?

Dawwger: The kid from Arroyo is a great choice. Again, maybe not as far as the team goes, but if this was like the basketball game coming up, he'd be on the East team.

DAWWGER said:

My vote:

The QB from Arroyo could lead the WEST team.

I'd like to see Crockom get one more shot at QB.

I know its not your choice but which QB's do would you want to see for the west squad?

I'd have to say David Vander Laan for Maranatha and David Baier and Michael Palffy for La Salle. But it's not my call.

New York said:

Where will they practice? Getting to SEMHS is a pain.

troy ahmaz and willie youngblood would make a legit back field for the west. the game is early this year. Usually its after the 4 of july. The earlier the better though.

Scott

WHo would you pick from Maranatha and La Salle?

Scott

How about some kids from Maranatha?

Anonymous said:

Scott when will the teams be posted/ announced

I have nothing to do with the game, but I'd definitely say at least Finchamp from RHP and, if they're seniors, one or two of the Flintridge Prep players.

scott

who would you like to see play from the small schools in the pasadena area?

The Stang Fan said:

I'm pretty sure Coach Howard coached the game after his first year at Muir in 2006, and I think Coach Brownfield likes to give different coaches the opportunity to coach the game. That said, Coach Tip should have DEFINITELY been the pick this year, but who knows, he may have turned it down, which some coaches have done in the past.

From what I remember last year each school is limited to three players for this game, which of coarse makes the nominations quite difficult. Here are a few players from Muir who should at least be considered:

Marcus Thompson
Austin Daniels
Willie Youngblood
John Patton
Daveon Samuels

Coach Dimlante coached in 1999 i believe for the all star game.

BigA said:

Why not Arcadia head coach Jon Dimalante as the coach for the West SGV. Has he ever been apart of this all-star game? Or maybe Ken Howard.

Anonymous said:

isn't south el monte "technically" apart of the east sgv?

Goldenarm said:

The answer is yes, West should be coached by the West. Is their precedent for this, as in the "best " coaches are chosen regardless of locale - or does it go back to the no respect theory, political, or what?

Anonymous said:

when are the rosters selected for the game

Anonymous said:

are you sure you want a crybaby(Mills) representing the WHOLE WEST SAN GABRIEL VALLEY???

aren't we supposed to be the more "classy" side of the valley? LOL!!
