the blair comment was a joke... I hope next week rankings will better reflect the actual records

Blair isnt Ranked beacuse it's team plays at the JV level. It doesnt play on the varsity schedual, therefore all its wins are again other JV teams.

After Wednesday's lost SP will be 2-6 and have to be out of the top ten

Fact San Marino was ranked #1 then they should have beaten arcadia by a landslide. HOWEVER Arcadia came out strong and beat them 5-2. Some rating system.

does SH really play anyone with any talent...nice team but way over rated....that coach is going to burn Ferri's arm if he is not careful

Dear TC,

Your welcome.

South Pas

La Canada 4 - Monrovia 1

LC is 2-0 to start the Rio Hondo League.

Neither Alverno or FSH are better than SP.

Alverno's work is done they can start practicing for CIF before league even starts, what a luxury. Don't drink the kool-aid.

Anonymous said:

what happen to all the talk about SM being #1 and winning league or even a championship? But I guess a team down the street like So.Pas. just ending their talk for a league title, and then another team Arcadia from the other side of the street will end their talk for cif title after the game today.

Burbank 12
Arcadia 1

Down year in the ESGV? Burbank is also 7-0 vs the WSGV.

Correction:

Sacred Heart is 6 - 2

Ferri is averaging over 2 K's per inning pitched and has thrown 3 straight no-hitters (with 2 being perfect games).

I am not sure if you guys are familiar with Curly Grimes, but she is playing at North Texas U next year, a quality D1 program. She has it easily.I am not from Arcadia.

Well, Jim M.,
I'm not throwing anything across the room at ya...
Just wanted to put out there that four-year starter Lexi Long (Monrovia) might have an argument at Catcher...
Problem is, her team needs her at Shortstop this year.

"round ballers" ... u r pretty cool with the lingo though

u hipster u!

It depends how you define travel ball. I believe the blogger was referring to the OC level of travel ball. only the uninformed would not recognize the huge difference in that there is a drastic difference.

John said:

Regarding highs schools that field year round ballers, I know San Gabriel Mission fields 5 players and Alverno has about the same.
Check your facts before posting!

Enough about all pitchers in high school already. Although I'm a huge Jessica Ferri fan. I love that kid. She has never turned down a request to come out and help other teams and to work with other players in the area. If their is air coming from a player on a cold winter night its Jessica Ferri working hard into the night out on a field.

What about the position players? If you think this blog is full of piss and vinegar just wait until some dad who hasn't picked up a bat in ten years reads his daughter isn't the best short stop in the area. Wow, were in for some fun.

I'll start it off by saying I think Anna Edwards, freshman, from La Canada is the best catcher in the area.

Okay fire away, I'm ducking over here in the corner.

In the mean time who is the best:

First base ________________

Second base _______________

Short ____________________\

Third Base ___________________

Left Field ___________________

Center Fielder _________________

Right Fielder _________________

Lead off hitter __________________

Third in the line up ______________

Clean up hitter __________________

Best eye at the plate _____________

Best base stealer ________________

Worst Umpire _______________ just kidding

If you quote Max Prep you're disqualified.

Gentlemen start your engines, because if you thought their were cry-babies in this blog before, just wait until you respond to this request.

I'm sure the majority of the posts will be annonoymus.

I almost forgot if their is a word misspelled and you want to point that out you can't reply. If you were a yell leader in high school you to, can't reply. Just kidding.

arcadia should get more credit for playing a tough pre season. Losing Rodriquez and still taking on your supposed # 1 San Marino, South Pasadena, and Monrovia.

A game between intra-league rivals TC and LC, and TC loosing is "shocking". Whether or not TC or LC are ranked is not "shocking". It would have been far more interesting to read a report from the PSN of that very exciting upset game in the PSN. We'd all like to here more game reporting, and some individual interviews of the most talented athletes. Reporting about 2nd and 3rd hand distant adult opinions is nowhere near as interesting as reading reports of how the kids are actually playing.

Ranking typically have no basis in reality and is in no way a correct indicator as to whether softball is up or down in any area. Rankings have more to do with politicking, and a little bit to do with what a team did last year. Also, very few teams even submit statistics, so rankings have no statistical basis. Every year published rankings differ very significantly as to what actually happens in game play and how the teams actually stack up after playoffs. That's the only ranking that matters. There are 2 teams in the western SGV that are definitly down, but many are up, and the rest are at least status quo.

The big difference in teams is not that the players are more talented in areas like Orange County, but that there are more of the talented players in Orange County. It relates to one simple fact, in the western SGV you won't find a high school team that fields 9 year round travel ball players (some are lucky to have 1 travel ball player), where as in OC it's more the norm (some teams in OC actually field 9 legit travel ball players). Also, most of the best travel ball players in the western SGV go to Orange County to play travel ball. The best high level travel ball teams are out of Orange County, there is one in Valencia, and one in Corona.

The only assesment that carries any objective weight, is assesment that comes from first hand observation of teams last year and this year. Even if you didn't see many games last year, get out this year and see more games.

Hearing PSN first hand reporting of softball and how the kids are playing would be far more interesting than hearing about proposed playoff realignments for off-season sports, or off-season retirements.

Scott,
It looks as if the CIF agrees with your assessment that softball is down in the SGV this season.
