I watched the South Pas Quartz Hill final. Congrats to South Pas for playing them tough. The Tigers are a very well coached team and a cohesive group of players. South Pas was outgunned in terms of firepower, but played smart ball to keep the outcome uncertain.

Coach T. Terzian said:

Crescenta Valley tournament update: South Pasadena defeated in the finals by Quartz Hill in 2 games in the best 2 of 3 format. Scores were 25-20 and 25-23. Quartz Hill is currently ranked #2 in CIF in Div 3.

La Salle traveled down to Brentwood last Monday. La Salle won the first game, then Brentwood tightened up their defense and took the next three games.
They don't have the offense like last year, that Tito Goldstein could really whack it from behind the 10 foot line. But they play well together, and going against them will be similiar to maybe a second round playoff game.
La Salle now 5-1 in league, could catch Bishop Montgomery napping next week and tie for league champ.
Good luck to all at CV this weekend

I made an earlier post on former Brentwood star player Tito Goldstein. Correction, he plays for USC, not UCLA.

Here's my new top 5 as of yesterday's league play.

1. Arcadia (I expect them to beat Claremont at Claremont on Thursday)
2. South Pas (winning, but more lineup changes due to more injury problems)
3. San Marino (digs you off the court)
4. & 5. tie Temple City, La Salle, Flintridge Prep (would like to see these schools play each other and settle it on the court)

Coach T. Terzian said:

South Pas defeated Temple City on Tuesday afternoon at TC in 4 hard fought games.

The Crescenta Valley Tournament is this weekend. 16 teams, including 4 Rio Hondo League schools will be there. Last year, South Pas was defeated by Brentwood in the Finals. Brentwood will be in the tournament, but Tito Goldstein, their superstar player and MVP of the CV tournament from last season is now at UCLA. Pool play on Friday at 3:30 and Championship play on Sat morning starting at 9:30 am.

Thursday is the day that decides the Pacific League, and you bet your money I wont miss this game. Its at Claremont HS, at 7:00pm. Im bringing my family too, its the best volleyball match youll get anywhere in the area. I cant wait!:]

Coach T. Terzian said:

South Pas at Temple City on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. This is an important 2nd half of league play match.

Big week for quite a few teams this week. Just wondering if anyone was going to cover the Arcadia vs Claremont game on Thursday, the 24th. Its at Claremont at 7:00pm. Decides who gets league or co-league, and the Redondo Varsity Championships are this weekend as well. Best of luck to all teams:]

Coach T. Terzian said:

South Pas defeats San Marino on Friday in 4 games. The match lived up to its yearly great game status as both teams relly went at it. SP was fortunate to win.

Note: SP played 3 RHL matches in 3 consecutive days, finishing with San Marino.

La Salle Afficiando said:

La Salle pulled out a tough 5 game match at Cathedral, winning 16-14 in the final game.
La Salle was beat by Bishop Montgomery on Tues, La Salle's setter could not play due to injury. that give BM the inside track to win the league, La Salle is now 4-1 in league.
Coach Todd, it sure is tough to get VB results, isn't it? The CIF website is not up to date, and some standings, like the Camino Real league, are non existent.
We needs a Max Preps for Boys Volleyball.

Rio Hondo League update:

South Pas defeats Gabrielino at Gabrielino in 3 straight games. Game scores were 25-19, 28-26, 25-21. SP played without top offensive player Tim Tong for the 2nd consecutive match.

SP hosts San Marino on Friday at 4:00 pm. Only 1 game separate the traditional rivals and the Titans can create a tie in RHL play if they defeat SP.

Coach T. Terzian said:

San Marino had a big win at TC yesterday, as was covered by the Star News. SP defeated La Canada in 3 at SP. Tim Tong, SP's leading offensive player was unable to play due to a very sore knee and is day to day. SP at Gabrielino on Thursday and will play again on Friday at home vs San Marino. This will make 3 league matches in 3 days.

Here's my current top 5.

1. Arcadia: nobody close to them in Star News area
2. South Pas: Playing well, but now more injury problems
3. San Marino: Great win vs TC at TC
4. Temple City: Took a tough loss to SM, but dont count them out in league or CIF
5. Tie - La Salle and Flintridge Prep. Still waiting for La Salle to defeat a quality opponent. Who won FP vs Viewpoint?

SMVB said:

SM beat TC in 4 today.

Arcadia also played against Burroughs today and won in 3 games. The real test will be next week, on the 24th(which is a Thursday), they will play Claremont. Basically for the league title and then they go to the Redondo Varsity Tournament that weekend. The volleyball season is coming to a close and I just wanted to thank Scott for doing such a great job, your a stud!

Nice picture of James! Made me think of how refs this year are not calling "pancakes" anymore... I think arcadia has only had one or two of those pancake calls go our way, anyone else experience "pancake-no-goes"?
