FOOTBALL: What are some of the matchups you'd really like to see?

This is an extra post from a week ago since we've been having so many problems both posting and receiving responses.
Is there any team in this area that could give Oaks Christian a run for its money like Muir did last season? Are there any teams that could give Mater Dei a game like West Covina was hoping to do on the East side? Which team would you like to see from the West side take on the likes of Bishop Amat?
Also, feel free to E-mail suggestions for future posts.

I really like the colors here on your blog. did you design this yourself or did you outsource it to a professional?
I can't imagine Tip leaving the City of Roses.
maybe Tip's late application is under review?
Who knows. This process has taken so long. I can't imagine what the candidates are going through.
School board meeting this week? I take it Coach Lujan got it?
I have a feeling we will know shortly after the school board meets.
New York, what's going on at Monrovia. Who got the job?
Goldenarm-
Did you see the tall 6'8"kid from Helix? That's Levine Toilolo. He's committed to Stanford as a TE. Stanford also picked up a 6'6" TE named Ertz. If Stanford plays a two-TE set with both those guys, that will be scary. USC tried to get Toilolo as a DL and he said no.
Dad of 3,
thanks for info on C Woods.
Unfortunately, no...as far as other SGV participants..the two Amat kids were the closest thing..I saw some Los Altos supporters. San Diego Helix had a couple kids there.
I liked the fact you could follow the platoons or just stay at one particular station as they came to you..right on the field level. Also you could view the overall field from atop the bball fieldhouse area. 8 bucks to park, no entry for the combine itself.

Cierre Woods was not at the Nike Camp. He was at Notre Dame for their Spring Game and committed Sat morning . Bummer for UCLA because he had narrowed it down to UCLA and ND.
Big A-
I was at the Nike Camp. Anyone wearing UCLA gear got razzed. But Golper knows and gets along with Burfict, Pressley , Simmons and many of the other SC commits since he has competed against them in the various camps ( and his team in a 7 on 7 passing tournament in Las Vegas beat a team with five USC commits last month). The one on ones are at the end of the camp. Golper went stride for stride with each RB he went up against and never got beat once. As for size , he was measured at 6'1", 225. Scout doesn't report on the Nike Camp because it is affiliated with Rivals and the two usually don't report on the other's camps. The Scout camp is at the end of May. The B2G camp will be in June. That also is affiliated with Scout now.
Sheldon Price and Brent Seals were there from Bishop Amat, if you consider that SGV. Didn't see anyone from the PSN area there or if they were there ,their names were not called out .
Goldenarm,
Thanks for the info! It's good to have a correspondent out there to give us the info about the Nike camp. My subscription to Scout doesn't tell me a thing about what happened.
Did you happen to see any other SGV kids out there?
We'll do what we can during spring ball. It's mainly workouts, so most of the updates will come during the passing leagues and competitions where we actually see the players come together.
who is Muir HS new football coach and how do things look for next year?
Big A
I got there at 930am-unfortunately missed the 1 on 1's...had to be back in Dena early.
Golper looked lean and was not sucking gas in the drills...in other words very fit. One station had some brutal step ups, furious pace, left foot, right foot..then military push ups crossing back and forth over an elevated block beneath the athletes chest...WHILE WEARING A WEIGHTED VEST!! This was one of the primary puke zones. Some did not complete the drill or looked embarassed by their inability to master the coordination needed -
Size wise Golper was probably right in the middle...by no means as imposing as many others. His attributes of balance, clean technique and speed were apparent though. He looked to be very much all business.
I wonder if his UCLA commit caught him any comments on Trojan grass?
Goldenarm,
Thanks for the update! How did Golper look physically? I'm glad you made it out there!
Simmons seems to get a lot of attention but I'm not really sure as to why. Burfict is a stud and should be the one getting all the attention.
Did you get a chance to watch any of the 1 on 1's?
The kid from Agoura is Kevin Graf. I believe he is committed to USC and has been getting publicity for a while now.
Thanks for making it out there once again!
Unable to control my football jones, I took a solo drive to USC Sunday, to check out the Nike Combine.
It was pretty amazing.
First, a couple impressions. It is tough to put a name on players as you see them do incredible things, the jerseys have a small number on the front pec area, sometimes a name beneath but too small to read. Having never seen Todd Golper, I looked for him for 20 minutes, finally finding him when he came to the sidelines for a shot of water - and nearly stepped on my foot.
For Big A and others - I thought Golper shined, moving well in agilities and showing a combo of speed and balance. Man,if only you could teach, coach, hone and develop that natural nose for the ball, predatory look Golper exudes. I left too early to know how he did overall. Having him around has got to benefit many others on the Arcadia roster.
I was amazed how many kids showed late - an hour or more late I mean. Also there was plenty of puking throughout the day. Being invite only and knowing the scrutiny that awaits you - wouldn't you be prepped for the camp?? The staff called out several kids for flat out loafing on the "shadow" drill...causing two kids in the backer group to get pissed and forget the "no contact" rule and start sticking each other. COME ON 09 SEASON!!!
Simmons was getting all the publicity as far as LB's - but Burfict (sp) looked scary. If Cierre Woods was there - I could not pick him out of the sea of red. I looked.
Matt Barkley (6'3 226)is headed for SC at QB - and soon after the NFL. The QB group was packed with skill, the real deal. Too many to list. It looked like Mark Sanchez tossing tight spirals out there as well.
There were unblockable creatures in the DL line group - if they are 17 years old - then I can run a 4.35 40. 6'6 302 kid (Agoura, maybe)...I pray no one I know ever has to plug a hole if he is the lead blocker. Intimidating comes to mind first, followed by long term hospitalization. Again, I hope I got the right name to the kid...unreal body mass on the dude.
Southern CA is not the bottom of the athletic barrel - if Rivals features info on the USC Combine - that should be made clear. I recommend to others here to go next time around...the wide receivers...blazing!!
ScottG,
Are you going to have a huge spring ball update on the bigger local schools like Arcadia, Muir, SF, Monrovia, PHS...etc?
