NEWS AND NOTES: Some love for the other sports

Alhambra High School continued its dominance in boys track and field Thursday.
The Moors defeated Bell Gardens to win their eighth consecutive Almont League championship.
"We've had a good group of kids come through, and I get good support from the other coaches on campus," Moors coach Jerry DeSantis said.
Phillip Benavides, who went to the State championship meet in cross country in the fall; Anthony Brown, an All-CIF competitor in football; Eric Arteaga, who reached the Masters meet last year in the 800 meters; and Mitchell Crockom are the core of the team.
"They're all very good athletes, who are hard workers and give 100 percent at the meets," DeSantis said. "The other kids look up to them."
Alhambra, which hasn't lost a league dual meet in eight seasons, finished league at 5-0.
Alhambra's girls team (5-0) also earned the league title with a victory over Bell Gardens on Thursday.
The Moors girls have won three titles in the past four years.
DeSantis is preparing the boys and girls teams for the Almont League finals Friday at Bell Gardens High.
"Benavides, Brown, Arteaga and Crockom all have a very good chance of qualifying for CIF," DeSantis said.
MINUTEMEN FIRST
Maranatha's boys golf team (9-1) beat Village Christian 205-215 Thursday to win the Alpha League championship for the first time in school history.
"For me personally, it was a great achievement for the kids," Maranatha second-year coach Ron Jones said. "The pressure was there during the last couple of matches and the kids came through."
Nathan Lo shot his best round at Maranatha with a 39 in a match played at Altadena Golf Course.
The Minutemen will be back in action at the Alpha League individual meet Tuesday and Thursday at Elkins Ranch in Fillmore.
They will compete as a team in the CIF-Southern Section Central Coast divisional at Montecito Country Club on May 5.
SPARTANS SHINE
La Ca ada's boys golf team finished 8-0 in Rio Hondo League play after a 186-199 victory over Monrovia on Thursday at Altadena.
Six golfers shot par or better at the par-35 course, including Monrovia's Kent Weiss, who fired a 2-under 33.
PITCHING IN
Brookside Men's Golf Club has been donating to local high schools for the past eight years, as well as to the First Tee program at Brookside.
This year, the club has donated $3,200 to the First Tee program and $500 each to Muir, Pasadena, Maranatha and Torrance in honor of Seth Sandberg.
