WRESTLING: Madrigal put prep wrestling on the map
Coach of the Year
Name: Louie Madrigal
Year: 27th
What he did: Madrigal was the only coach to have an athlete reach the state tournament this season. Unfortunately, he did not see Adrian Marquez wrestle for the final time in high school. Madrigal, 51, died on Feb. 27, a night before the tournament, of apparent natural causes. The program became one of the most recognized in the CIF-Southern Section. Rosemead won CIF-SS individual team titles in 1988 and 2004 and a dual meet championship in '02. During his tenure, the Panthers had 17 CIF-SS champions, three state champions (Michael Kawamura, '95; Hector Torres, '97-98) and one senior national champion (Manuel Rivera, '03).
What others said: "It's absolutely devastating. He's one of those guys who put everything into the school and the Rosemead program," athletic director Marc Harsay said.

Interesting thoughts here. I appreciate you taking the time to share them with us all. It's people like you that make my day :)

Yahweh Yahushua is returning! Tell everyone you know!
Coach Louie as I called him. The greatest coach that I ever had. This man would take the shirt of his back for you. I have nothing but sweet memories of all the tournaments through out the years. I wrestled from 1986 thru 1990 for him. I also remember coach louie from when I would sometimes take the 76 bus to school and he would see me eating my breakfast on the bus and would give me a hard time about it. He would say "you better make the weight today". Coach Louie you will be missed by all your wrestlers through out your career at Rosemead High School. I can speak for everyone by saying that it was a great honor to wrestle for one of the greatest wrestlin coaches in California. Until we meet again coach
