Monrovia rallies for 5-4 baseball win over South Pasadena

Rocky Tavera stole home on the front end of a delayed double steal to cap a three-run seventh inning, giving Monrovia High School a come-from-behind 5-4 Rio Hondo League baseball win over visiting South Pasadena on Thursday afternoon.
Tavera went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Wildcats improved to 10-3 in league and 16-7 overall. South Pasadena fell to 9-13 and 6-7.
SOFTBALL
SOUTH PASADENA 3, MONROVIA 1

Nichole Parada (11-8) struck out eight in the Tigers' eight-inning Rio Hondo League victory.
Michelle Mun went 2 for 2, drove in a run, and scored the go-ahead run for South Pasadena (13-11, 6-5).
MAYFIELD 3, FLINTRIDGE PREP 2
Alissa Costello drove in two runs and Amy Vergel de Dios was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI as the host Cubs (13-7-1, 8-3) edged the Rebels in a Prep League game.
Kate Beck went 3 for 3 for Flintridge Prep (10-5, 7-2).
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
SOUTH PASADENA 3, LA CANADA 1

The Tigers came back from a Game 1 loss to defeat the Spartans, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17, and remain unbeaten in Rio Hondo League play.
Max Van Wageuingen led South Pasadena (16-6, 8-0) with 12 kills and 10 blocks. Mark Castellanos had 12 kills and Chris Reid had nine blocks.
BOYS TENNIS
CHADWICK 11, PASADENA POLY 7

Brandon Chan, Matt Diephuis and Derek Hsu each went 2-1 in singles for the Panthers (11-5, 5-1), who suffered their first Prep League loss.
