Thursday's game
Alverno at Paraclete, 3:15 p.m.

Question: Can they pull this game out and eventually win a Division VI title?

My team has won two of the last three CIF titles and we have gotten an opportunity to see and/or face all of the top teams in Div VI and Alverno has the best pitcher in the Division. That said, Alverno have as good a chance as anyone else. In order to get to the finals, Alverno must go through Paraclete and Riverside Christian (the same exact opponents in the quarters and semis as last year). This year should be no different. Alverno should get by Paraclete but Riverside Christian is extremely tough and is a fantastic team that will challenge Alverno and Escamilla. RC is well coached and has lots of travel ball experience on their side. Should Alverno get by these two, I think that they will have Calvary Murietta (last's year champs who only lost 1 senior this year)waiting for them in the finals. It sounds like a tough road but Alverno does have the biggest gun in the artillery and should be able to give a good effort. As always, at this stage of the playoffs, teams have to play a complete game to advance. Nobody gets a freebie. So Escamilla's teammates will have to step it up. If Alverno does win it all, they will have earned it. That's for sure.

My daughter has former teammates on the Alverno team and wishes them the best of luck.
