chkyrslf,
Spoken like a true Rio Hondo shill!!!
There wasn't a single team in this year's Rio Hondo League that could come close to last year's Monrovia or Arcadia teams.
In Rio Hondo, maybe Temple City and La Canada were a little better this year but more of their success was attributable to a significantly less competitive Rio Hondo League.
South Pas was a much better team last season too. This season they drastically missed their catcher from last year, and their pitcher was much more effective last year than she was this year. To much weight on her shoulders to carry a team that provider her with little support and who really struggled with consistant fielding and hitting. What will they be like next year without their pitcher of the past 4 years? Some say it will be a further fall than both Monrovia and Arcadia had this year.
Rio Hondo will even be less competitive next year. A chance for the Prep League to claim area supremecy ... pinch me I'm dreaming!!!

This one is tough. Whittier Christian 2, Temple City 1

That is the reason why waiting for CIF is so important in the judgement of teams. During the regular season teams challenge themselves differently and some teams try very hard to arrange their season to be ready for playoffs. These two teams seem to have done that. Because, in the end, as far as competition goes, playoffs are the most important thing.

Here's a thought, if South Pas or Temple City advance today, they will have gone further in the playoffs than Monrovia's senior-laden team and Arcadia's Jenna Rodriguez team of 2007. Not bad for a down year in softball ... Just kidding Scott, having fun.

Who said anything about not covering SP? We'll have a reporter there, but no photographer. We're getting bonus coverage from Whittier in terms of a photographer.

I'm a little surprised that someone won't be covering SP at home? Especially since you covered TC last week.
Good Luck to TC & SP, make the Rio Hondo League Proud!

Scott,
Which games will you be covering on Tuesday, and will you have photographers there?

From what I was told by a SP parent:
Big Bear was a good team with good hitters and good defense. Their Pitcher was good but the SP batters got to her by the 4th after seeing her 1x each. Apparently Big Bear was on a 16 game win streak.
From what I see SP and TC are two of the better hitting teams 1-9 in the SGV.

North Torrance's pitchers are both solid. But they'll get a much tougher test against South Pasadena, so we'll get to see how good they really are. In my opinion, Prep League teams shouldn't be in Division V. They should be in with schools their size.

It seems as though the three best teams from the area are still in the playoffs, hopefully people go watch the games.
Any reports on the games from people who were there? Was Big Bear as good as "sftballfan" said they were and was either that game or the TC/Filmore game ever in question? Is Whittier Christian as good of a team as most Whittier schools are? How tough was North's(Torrence) pitchers? Has anybody seen Rosamond play before?
