FOOTBALL: Quarterbacks to watch out for

| | Comments (56) |

With the season rapidly approaching, which quarterbacks should be strong this season? Who is doing well in summer ball?

Blogfootballgraphic.jpg

Darrian Cazarin, Alhambra
I liked what I saw at the Glendale tournament.

Reuben Thomas, Muir
Showed flashes of greatness a year ago.

Chase Rettig, La Salle
Grew in a hurry as a sophomore. Has a strong arm.

Angel Alejandre, Rosemead
Had a strong season last year. With Sumler returning in the backfield, look for big things from this kid.

Isaac Valdez, San Gabriel
Extremely bright with a solid arm and great work ethic.

Morgan Hatch, Temple City
No Do to hand off to, but should have a good year.

Matt Schilz, Maranatha
Injured last season, but the word is that he has been impressive during the summer. Danny Beckwith will be a solid backup.

To the alhambra guy i all i ever read from you guys is: if we would've or if he didn't the fact are you are loser year in and year out. Here are the facts alhambra will always have the best talent in the almont league. so why don't they win league every year. why a early exit of the play-offs year in and year out Great job in beating SG WOW and the schurr game they gave the ball to their best and he could not bring it home for the moors. That just football but you would know that right pain the ass or slow pain or whatever they call you

Dear SG fans,
I appreciate the love n support you have for your kids cause that's the way it's supposed to be.I know your lil qb is a great player nobody is taking anything away from your lil qb he's one tough kid.Reality is reality though- Just worry about the Moors defense and figuring a way to get in the endzone. It will be a difficult task this year.Just speaking the truth and I know sometimes the truth hurts.

Advocate,
I hate to interrupt your hating session, but Cazarin will pass for more than 2000-3000yds padding the ball...ha...ha I love football season! and u can take that one 2 the bank, advocado or whatever your name is.

hate to break your heart buddy but after seeing the alhambra quarterback throw in passing league.. he is going to be in for a lonnnngggg season if he is gonna pat the ball 5 times before he chucks for luck to Crockum. Crockum is a great athlete and all but receivers need a QB.

lol said:

AFTER THE GAME coach says "we got the ring(2years ago) none of you boys got one but we got the ring it's ok if we lost 8-2 it's just passing league"

ALHAMBRA IS MONEY!....

The Moors got worked?
I don't know which passing game you attended, but the Spartans got WHOOPED on!
Even though passing games don't mean anything,Alhambra was more physical, and way more athletic. It wasn't even close Mr. Spartan.LOL
Anyways as always it will be a great season opener.GO MOORS

Back when Maddox got the M-town job, somebody labeled him as "intense". That word may have described Maddox on his 3rd birthday when somebody stole his tricycle - he has since graduated to some other level - far beyond intense.

Maddox and the Wildcats were at Bonita HS last Thursday along with Chino Hills, San Dimas and TC. In my opinion, Maddox is wired for success. His demeanor, his drive, his interaction with the two assistants there...there is no hint this is the new guy in town. Even more telling is the looks on the players faces...respect has been established. Maddox is a teacher, not a tormentor, and clearly his focus is defensive.
OFFENSE - M-town used two QB's both under 5'10", both strong armed, though neither threw particularly well on this day. It looked more improvised than timed, sometims with QB holding the ball longer than he should and throwing late, well after the break Hey, it's July...
DEFENSE -maybe the best linebacker corp in the Valley. Thick, brick house blond kid in the middle, large agile OLB's on both sides. Lanky athletic kids behind them (Haines?)When Monrovia did get burned (not often) it was to the corners, deep 3rd. The middle is not recommended - unless it is pain you seek.

Clearly this group of kids is already hitched up to Maddox. Just take one look at Maddox's face and ask yourself - "do you think he will let them down".

I went to the La Salle - Eagle Rock passing league today. La Salle does have people who can catch. Things may be OK in Lancer land.

TA said:

hsfootball fan- i agree with your comment. it will take any qb/wr combo a few games to become comfortable with one another at game speed. but with a qb like they have and the leadership he shows it shouldn't be difficult to adjust to a new receiving corp...and to my knowledge their league is the same aside from one team being replaced and that is st. monicas being replaced with bishop montgomery, however, their division will be very difficult to do battle in, with the likes of an Oaks Christian.

hsfootball fan said:

To TA @1:58pm. Losing your top receivers is tough for a QB. In fact there are no returning receivers period! JV maybe but no one who played last year. Also remember passing leagues is different than full contact. Let the kids develop. It will be a full five games before they will develop the game experience necessay to achieve continuity. P.S. They're in a tougher league too!

TC is going to Bonita today - I heard it is a 5 team tourney...what teams are competing I do not know.

La Salle vs. Eagle Rock at 5pm tomorrow at La Salle.

TA said:

Word out of the La Salle camp says that they have a transfer in from Blair who was the QB for their team last year and has some pretty decent size and hands and is only going into his sophmore year...also another sophmore with decent speed and hands...a senior leader at the wide out spot...and a junior wide out who will in fact turn some heads with some of the acrobatic catches the kid can make. I wouldn't sleep on this squad.

goteamgo said:

My only worry about Rettig this year is will he have receivers who can catch his passes? He throws bullets, and I have never seen such a tight spiral. His top four receivers last year have graduated - curious to see who steps up in the La Salle receiving corp.

Rettig IMO is the best quarterback. Size, arm strength, intelligence, reading ability. He has it all.

Thomas is the best athlete at quarterback and is a very good runner.
