Cal Preps: Preseason Football Divisional Polls

| | Comments (20) |

I might get arthritis after typing all this but I know this is something you all want to see and chat about.

Now here's the $1,000 question:

Who's gonna pay for my medical bills? ha ha, j/k ....

Mid-Valley Division (Division XI)

1. San Dimas; 2. Paraclete; 3. Valley Christian/Cerritos; 4. South El Monte; 5. Rosemead; 6. Northview; 7. El Monte; 8. Baldwin Park; 9. Whittier Christian; 10. Monrovia; 11. Blair; 12. L.A. Baptist; 13. Covina; 14. San Marino; 15. Arroyo; 16. La Canada; 17. Temple City; 18. Duarte; 19. La Puente: 20. Village Christian; Others: 23. South Pasadena; 25. Gabrielino.

Miguel's Take: Apparently no love for the Panthers on this blog (I kid, i kid) but Cal Preps is giving Rosemead its due props with a No. 5 ranking. Monrovia at No. 10 is about right though I think Blair is a little high given the players they lost from last year's team.

===========================

Southeast Division (Division VII)

1. South Hills; 2. Diamond Ranch; 3. Charter Oak; 4. Muir; 5. California; 6. West Covina; 7. San Gabriel; 8. Pioneer; 9. La Serna; 10. Schurr; 11. Los Altos; 12. Pasadena; 13. Alhambra; 14. Bonita; 15. Wilson; 16. Burroughs; 17. Santa Fe; 18. Arcadia; 19. Whittier; 20. Bell Gardens. Others: 29. Keppel.

Miguel's Take: Not impressed by Diamond Ranch, Muir coach Ken Howard said? Well, No. 2 is pretty good though Muir doesn't trail too far behind. Charter Oak-Muir in the semifinals? Looks like San Gabriel will be better than I thought. Nice to see Pasadena in the mix there, though that ranking might seem a little low come season's end.

===========================

Western Division (Division III)

1. St. Paul; 2. Palmdale; 3. Gahr; 4. Alemany; 5. Compton Dominguez; 6. Palos Verdes; 7. Redondo Beach; 8. Quartz Hill; 9. West Torrance; 10. St. Francis; 11. Chaminade; 12. Culver City; 13. Warren/Downey; 14. Leuzinger; 15. Beverly Hills; 16. Lynwood; 17. Lancaster; 18. Palos Verdes; 19. Highland; 20. Santa Monica; Others: None.

Miguel's Take: Other than Arcadia, the Golden Knights don't play anybody in the area but their schedule (and depending on their results) will justify their No. 1 ranking for now in my Star-News top 10 poll. St. Francis will see those teams in league AND the playoffs. Ouch!

===========================

Northwest Division (Division X)

1. Oaks Christian; 2. Serra; 3. Santa Clara; 4. Harvard-Westlake; 5. Oak Park; 6. Morro Bay; 7. Torrance; 8. St. Joseph; 9. Nordhoff; 10. Carpinteria; 11. Cathedral; 12. South Torrance; 13. Bishop Diego; 14. St. Bernard; 15. Pioneer; 16. El Segundo; 17. Centennial; 18. Templeton; 19. North Torrance; 20. Santa Ynez; Others: 21. La Salle; 27. Bosco Tech.

Miguel's Take: No surprise with the No. 1 selection here.

===========================

East Valley Division (Division XII)

1. St. Margaret's; 2. Brentwood; 3. Big Bear; 4. Maranatha; 5. Desert Edwards; 6. Twentynine Palms; 7. Ontario Christian; 8. Grace Brethren; 9. Aquinas; 10. Bishop; 11. Filmore; 12. Kern Valley; 13. Sage Hill; 14. Desert Hot Springs; 15. Santa Paula; 16. Malibu; 17. Campbell Hall; 18. Brethren Christian; 19. Western Christian; 20. Yucca Valley; Others: 26. Marshall.

Miguel's Take: I can easily see St. Margaret's running away with the divisional title, again.

===========================

Northeast Division (Division XIII)

1. Calvary Murrieta; 2. Linfield Christian; 3. Saddleback Valley Christian; 4. Flintridge Prep; 5. Rio Hondo Prep; 6. Boron; 7. Mammoth; 8. Bell-Jeff; 9. Pasadena Poly; 10. St. Anthony; 11. Silver Valley; 12. Hamilton; 13. Salesian; 14. Chadwick; 15. Viewpoint; 16. Riverside Christian; 17. Fairmont Prep; 18. Desert Christian; 19. Webb; 20. St. Genevieve; Others: None.

Miguel's Take: Don't know too much about this division, but look for Rio Hondo Prep to turn the tables here.

burbanksports, just know when you come out of the weeds we will be stepping all on you guys!!!! The DOGS O-line and D-line averages 285 lbs! These boys can play too! After we dust off Saugus you and the rest of the Pacific will know trouble will be coming to your town!!!! I'm so excited about the new season!

San Gabriel above Burroughs....did Galetti vote for the coaches before he left? Did Fred?

Huckster....we're just waiting in the weeds until we get PHS.

Reyes, the problem with PHS will not be the Defense at all this season a matter of fact, that will be their strongest unit as a whole. The Offense can be really good, but the real question mark will be the play of the QB and how my Bro manages the game. They don’t have the high flying scoring act of a year ago, but they have a better all around team. The Dogs season will come down to Coach Mills making some crucial coaching decisions this year and because of that, the team could be 2-8 or 8-2 based on the head man. Folks, I’m his hardest critic because I love him and PHS! The Dogs will be ready! LET’S GO DENA!

No, Duarte wasn't a typo, at least not on my part. I just typed what was on CalPreps.com

wow whoever voted for the southeast division doesn't know whats up with the pacific league pasadena and arcadia deserve at LEAST a top ten spot and how did chan gabriel manage to get on that list at all!!!

Is the Duarte ranking a typo?

NY,

Have you had the opportunity to see Maddox work yet? Your take is correct.

I saw him at the Bonita tourney and believe me - he is 100% linked with the kids. I can't say enough positives about his energy and coaching style. The staff seems to be working in unison...teaching, motivating. Kind of a scary thing for a rival to observe.

Burn myself out? Dude, I'm only 24. I am a football junkie. I'm just trying to learn more about the players/teams/coaches and once I get more under my belt you'll see me get more analytical. Thanks for your concern but I'll be OK.

Bruinlaker, I didn't make those rankings (as I'm sure you are aware), but they are called preseason rankings for a reason and things will change so chill out.

I'm home now so time to change out of "office clothes" and into some shorts and UCLA t-shirt and make dinner!

Bruinlaker4 said:

Miguel, i guarantee that San Gabriel is not better than any of the teams they are ranked above. These rankings are a JOKE.

Miguel,
Don't burn yourself out. Your challenge is to maintain this type of intensity year-round. I hope you are a football junkie as well.

Stangs, I don't really know much about South Hills and Charter Oak but I'll make some calls Wednesday and get some more info. For now I'm calling it a day. Be sure to check out my blog on Monrovia on Wednesday around noon.

Miguel Melendez said:

Funny you should mention that, New York.

I just came back from Monrovia practice and you're totally right: Coach Maddox means business. I'll have more on that in a blog post Wednesday.

New York said:

The word around Town is that Coach Maddox is establishing a new brand of football at Monrovia. I anticipate Monrovia moving up several spots in the polls pretty quickly. Furthermore, I think Monrovia will eventually schedule multiple upper division teams in the pre-season, rather than sticking with teams mainly in our same division. Monrovia always has a terrific balance of talent on campus. Great coaching and community support will turn Monrovia into a mid-division power.

Boy, I wish La Salle was back in the Mid-Valley division - the Northwest division looks like a meat grinder.

Mig,

When you get a chance, can you post some info on South Hills, and Charter Oak. I check Freddie post, and really didnt get any info. What are their rosters looking like. Well we all know Charter Oak recruits, nothing new, but just curious as to what kind of talent they have.
