The Top 5 RB's
Had some unexpected things come up over the weekend and couldn't get the list out (I thought I had e-mailed the list to myself so I could post it over the weekend but I accidentally left the list in Pasadena. My bad).
So here are the top 5 RB's. Hope you all keep in mind these lists are never official and of course not set in stone. Some names could move around (like Dietrich Riley probably playing more running back than receiver).
But here it is ...

1. Marqis Williams, Sr., Monrovia
2. Marcus Wells, Sr., La Salle
3. Kendal Boggs, Sr., Monrovia
4. Nick Conora, Sr. Temple City
5. Gilbert Garcia, Sr., San Gabriel
Someone left a comment "ur an idiot" on my top WR thread. I've been called much worse. As always, I wanna hear your take on the list.
Here's my little disclaimer: I've been here for just a little over two weeks. I'm still trying to learn the names and figure out who's legit and who's all talk. As I get out to more and more practices I'll get a better feel and more comfortable about putting out lists like these. Nevertheless, I'm posting the list in hopes of riling you guys up and get you to talk with your feedback that surely helps me while I saddle up and get ready for the season.

meant to say "with other local studs." I hope all those guys do well, get picked up by a school, and really ENJOY the college experience of learning who they are and growing into men. Good luck to all.
Princess:
I don't follow Muir that closely, but I think somebody mentioned that Youngblood is at Glendale Community College along with local studs.
Coachescorner,
Yeah, back from AZ. Allow me retort on the Killer Ups/Downs...better known as "Push-ups from Hell." One of the best mental, physical, and disciplinary conditioning drills, which led to positive team-work effort and enforced leadership.
I'll stop by and visit.
I just have one question for New York - whatever happened to W. Youngblood? Did he get picked up by a college or just left with great stats?
Yeah It looks like Backus has a couple of other kids he's looking at to carry the ball- Joey Stewart and Antjuan Roy. Roy is pretty athletic -was primarily a DB last year. Conora is an LB. I like Monrovia to win the Rio.

Coachescorner,
My 4.85 time was back in 1990 at 20 years old and weighing at 191.My 5.0 time was my senior year in 1987-88. My point, the hills by the Rosebowl really help to improve your speed. I ran those hills for 8 months in 1990-91 traning for the police academy. Oh, by the way Im not coaching at Monrovia this season. New job and new work schedule.
GO SC
Don t really chime in much .I am more of an observer.I have my boys NY,Observant Cat,Goldenarm,Campanario,Philly B,to do a lot of the speaking for me.But there was something I had to respond on. That was DAWWGER running a 4.8 in the forty yard dash . WHAT? Dawwger, come on!Good Luck this year to our CATS...Go Bruins(thats a whole nother story)...J/K Dawwger, don t be a stranger, come on out and see us.
John Maldonado from South Pas should be pretty good. I expect big things from Marqis Williams.
Miguel not sure where you received your information on running backs. Marcus Wells from La Salle is a receiver and a Junior. According to sources he did not have a carry as a running back last year. Chris Dunlap, s/b on the list, will have a fine season. He's the fastest RB in CIF and only needs an opening to go all the way. Watch out for J'Quan Hamilton at PHS, a sleeper who will turn some heads. The head of the class is Marquise Williams, size, speed and toughness. Monrovia was a different team wih him in the lineup last year.
I got an offer from Maranatha, but I have not committed due to my new JOB with the COUNTY.
Miguel,
No, that wasn't a zing at all. I was saying how ironic it was that New York was giving some props to Muir while I was disagreeing with his position and going against my Stangs. That's NEVER happened before.
who is Gilbert Garcia from san gabriel? and where did he come from? i dont remember him from last years team.
Aww was that a zing at me, Stangs Fan?!?
And by the way, I don't think "irony" is the word you're looking for. No love for Double M.
New York,
THE IRONY!!! I'm actually going to have to side with Miguel on this one. While I agree with you that a RB will step up from the ranks and do well, I'm not sure any of them deserve being on a Top 5 list. Just like I didn't agree that Tyree Mills shouldn't be on the WR list. I was taken aback at first when I saw two M-town RB's on the list, but the reality is...they both probably belong there. Although, after reading the article on the Cats, it looks like someone else is backing Williams up.
At the end of the year I'm sure a Stang will land in the Top 5, but after Youngblood dominated the carries the last three years I don't believe any RB is qualified to crack the pre-season list.
Dawwger,
glad to see you survived the Valley of the Sun. It must have been the peyote, gypsum weed and Gila Monster juice that gave you the vision to return to CA.
You got yourself a coaching gig? Your not doing sideline videotape work for the New England Pats, are you??
Word is TC has got some coaching vacancies...we are sailing with a light load, but the right load.
All of the football players from Muir are FAST because they RUN the hills at the Rosebowl, Linda Vista area. I use to run those hills and my speed improved from 5.0 40 to 4.85 in the early 90's. I remember seeing all of the Muir players running the hills during the Summer camps and hell week. My favorite hill was the one located on the northeast corner that led to Washington Blvd.
good luck Stangs!
Go Bulldawgs
Go Cats
Go Minutemen
Go Rams
Go Tartans
GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure Chris Dunlap will do just fine. All I was saying was that I didn't get much info about Muir as far as running backs when I made the list and Muir coaches themselves said the running back was going to be a concern of theirs. But your point is well taken, New York and I agree with you.
Not to simplify things too much, but this is high school ball. One of Muir's DB's should easily be able to convert into an RB. Saying Muir doesn't have an RB anywhere in the stable is like saying Hart cant find a Quarterback. I'm not even a Muir guy.
New York,
Don't be disappointed there wasn't a Mustang on the RB's list. The truth is, Muir doesn't really have a true running back like they did in Willie Youngblood. Chris Dunlap is going to get most of the carries this season at back but I don't know much about him yet to put him on the Top 5 list.
Monrovia definitely always has multiple guys capable of running the ball, some are I-backs and others are more scat-backs. A variation of the Wing-T has always seemed logical.
As much as I believe in Monrovia, though, I don't find any list of RB's valid unless it includes a Mustang, proven or otherwise.

apparently Matt's "little" brother had no problem locating the weight room this offseason.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I don't think a better linebacker corp will be found this year - than the one the Cats will roll out. Very large, mobile OLB's.
My prediction is opponents Offense will find great difficulty against Monrovia, This may be the year of the turnover....and the resulting points off turnover for M-town. In fact, I am sure of it. Whatever (if any) weaknesses are exposed againt Arcadia...Maddox will find a way to address them and continue to get better.
If Williams stays healthy, I wouldn't be surprised if he is the top back on this side of the SGV. The only one he has to compete with is Riley, who is a multi-purpose player more than a runningback.
GA,
thats Matt Haggards little brother Grant
Welcome to the BLOG!
I am 3rd season blogger and looking forward to the chats and logical discussions regarding high school football.
DAWWGER
Yo Jimenez,
1) I have no love for any team. I'm just not that kind of reporter, ya know? I like to give even coverage to teams and spread the love around. Maybe that explains why I'm single ...
2) I'm not doing the Mission Valley League preview. Andrew J. Campa over in Whittier is handling that for me so you can see how I wouldn't know much about Rosemead right now. But thanks for the info on the guys. Tell me more about them.
FYI, I'm handling Rio Hondo, Pacific, small schools and parochial schools, a total of 17 teams. And again, these lists are never official and they'll fluctuate as more info comes in.
WOW Miguel!!!
I think you missed the boat on this one and your QB list as well...
NO ANGEL ALEJANDRE OR TRA SUMLER on either list... WOW!!! and here I thought you had love for the 'Mead. Guess not...
!!!FEAR THE 'MEAD!!!WAR PANTHERS!!!
thanks mtown...
who is the thick, tanned kid at MLB?
GA,
Boggs doesn't play LB, he's a safety
Miquel
I am pretty sure Boggs and Conora will impact primarily as LB's.
If Marquise Williams stays healthy and gets the carries - his numbers could exceed anyone on either side of the valley....my opinion only.
Sumler from Rosemead may find a home here as well.
