The Top 5 WR's
I don't claim to know everything but based on the information I have received from the coaches in the area, here is my preliminary top 5 list.
It's hard for me to admit this, and I might not hear the end of it for writing this, but I just don't see the East having that much talent to put out top 10 players at each position. I think there are five solid players and the rest are up for debate. Am I wrong?
Things of course can change and you guys can have your say on who belongs and who doesn't. The wide receivers list is here. Check back Saturday afternoon for RB's and on Sunday for QB's.
So without further ado, here is the list topped by Dietrich Riley.

WR
1. Dietrich Riley, Jr., St. Francis: Hands down arguably the best athlete in the entire San Gabriel Valley.
2. Mitchell Crockom, Jr., Alhambra: His ability to read the ball and time his jumps along with speed and physical ability is what makes him as good, if not better, than Zion Babb who is now at Michigan.
3. Tyree Mills, Sr., Muir: Look for big things from him, I know Reuben Thomas will be looking for him a lot.
4. Brian Rambeau, Sr., Arcadia: His last name sounds like "Rambo" and I know Rambo was one tough dude. He's got the hands and will be a playmaker.
5. Joseph Jackson, Sr., Pasadena: Very physical and will be the catalyst on offense.
Your player didn't make the list? Does someone on the list not belong there? Go ahead, talk your smack (in orderly fashion, of course).

I think davonte laflore wasnt on there because who new what school he surface at. One minute its muir than back to phs. Jackson from phs is a very very physical player and has great hands. He is not afraid to make big plays and loves to hit. He can play corner and safety and is just an all around player. Of course Marcus Graves should be on there. Now if Phs quarterback cant throw than jackson nor any other player will be on any list for WR
Miguel,
WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO DO TOP FIVE OR TEN OFFENSE LINEMAN???WHEN IT COME TO HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, BIG GUY UP FRONT WILL MAKE OR BREAK FOOTBALL TEAM...
Miguel,
When are the other Top 5's coming out? It says on Saturday and Sunday, but today is Monday. Anyways, thanks for the hard work.
Miquel,
You have a prediction for the outcome of the Monrovia versus Arcadia game?
Anybody else got one?
Miguel:
Just back to looking at this blog after several weeks away, so have not had a chance to welcome you to the Star News. From the background information that both you and the newspaper provided it sounds like an outstanding hire and fit with West San Gabriel Valley sports. I hope you get a chance over the next several years to speak with and inspire athletes from the area to never give up after High School is over, and pursue their dreams, whether to be a sportswriter or not, through education and hard work as you have done.
Still I must start here by saying that your top 5 WR choices left out several outstanding area Seniors who were successful last year and have the stats and awards to back up a top 5 selection. Therefore I am curious about your process for choosing. While certainly any and all on your list may ultimately put up big numbers as the season progresses and the receivers I mention may not, this is a preaseason list so it should likely take into consideration last season's numbers, which several of the choices do not have.
Putting aside for the moment both Riley and Crockom to the extent each ends up a WR (sounds like Riley is doubtful), they should be on the list, so no problems there. In addition, the following should be considered:
Alex Chang Sr. Rosemead - 41 catches for 473 yards.
Graham Sadler Sr. Pasadena Poly - No stats on MaxPreps, but All League and Honorable Mention All-Area
Steven Colliau Sr. So. Pasadena - 42 Catches for 506 yards, 1st Team All Rio Hondo League , Honorable Mention All Area.
Again at the end of the day, those on your list, those mentioned by other bloggers and the ones here may or may not shine. At this time though based on last years efforts the above three should have been included.
ur an idiot.
Big A,
Rambo is better on offense! Last year agaisnt the stangs he was score on a number on times with 1 on 1 coverage. Does run good routes. But defense is not for him.
By the end of the season, there will probably be someone from La Salle in at least the top 10 WR list. Not sure who will step up as the go to guy from that team (most of the key WR from last year graduated), but we know they will be passing.
Unless an underclass man steps up at St Francis I really don't see Riley playing much WR this year. I think he will line up most of his time at RB. Look for the defense to carry the golden knights early this year until the young offense can get some experience.
Where is Davante La Flora at?
Stang Fan,
Rambeau had a pretty nice catch for a TD in the 1st qtr against your stangs, against a good DB.
He'll surprise you this year
Miguel,
You get a lot of credit for trying. After that, well, the season just needs to hurry up and begin so that you can check out the players.
As far as #'s 1 and 2, well it isn't hard to get that wrong. However, 3-5 needs major restructuring. First of all, Tyree Mills will have a good season, no argument there, but two other players, Marcus Graves and Myles Campbell started over Tyree last year and fared much better. I would certainly put them ahead of Tyree and the others you have on this list as well.
I understand the need and desire to have players from different teams on this list, however some teams have multiple "top players" at one position. As I've said before, Rambeau has good fundamentals, but he's not in the same class as Graves and Campbell, and probably some other WSGV players, when it comes to the Top 5. Same goes for Jackson from phs.
Good spot at #4 for Rambeau.
He is a good receiver and was overshadowed by all-area performer Eric Willm last year. "Rambo" should shine this year. He could probably play anywhere on the field but I believe he is a better safety. Good tackler, solid coverage and a smart football player.
I believe Myles Campbell from Muir deserves to be on this list after the season is over. He transferred from St. Francis last year and did relatively well for joining a new squad. Campbell will do very well this year.
