Top 5 players this side of the 626

Drum roll please ...

1. Dietrich Riley, St. Francis, Jr. - For the record, no, I'm not Catholic.

Riley is being recruited at cornerback but will play safety/linebacker and running back/wide receiver at St. Francis. USC beat everyone else to the punch and gave Riley an offer, and of course UCLA followed suit. Oklahoma, Florida and Texas also have expressed interest.

Don't be surprised if he lines up at quarterback and takes off from there. The word from the grapevine is he'll need to get better on one-and-one coverage. But he's a very physical player and has a high competitive level and that's something you don't teach.

USC evaluates talent well so they must know what they're talking about when they're giving Riley an offer on the spot.

2. Todd Golper, Arcadia, Sr. - Golper is a UCLA commit and will likely play linebacker for the Bruins. But look for Golper to play everywhere for the Apaches, maybe even running back. He's a solid 6-foot, 223 pounder.

3. Mitchell Crockhom, Alhambra, Jr. - Some already are comparing this kid to Zion Babb who of course now is at Michigan (Really? Appalachian State???). He looks the part and is 6-3, 190 pounds. He ran a good route over at the scout.com combine. He's physical and a potential Division I player.

4. Reuben Thomas, Muir, Sr. - He's quick and he'll scramble. He's the type of player defensive coordinators will have nightmares about because you won't know what he'll do next. He's not as patient in the pocket but when he runs that's where his strengths shine most. If he breaks off the edge he'll run the ball and make a big play.

5. It's a toss-up! Too many players to mention here so I'll let you guys decide who belongs here and on this list for that matter.

Is Dietrich Riley the best player in ALL THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY?!?! I'd definitely argue that he is (Bring it on, Robledo!).

Yo StangFan,

Just came back from Muir. I'll post something light today about that and the meaty stuff will come tomorrow morning by 10:30 a.m. so be sure to tune in all.

Today I brought lunch so I didn't go outside the whole day until about 3 p.m. to go to Muir and wow is it warm out there. Not the best day to wear my black shirt.

Miguel,

I think you have the list in the correct order. Dietrich is THE best player in ALL of the SGV....bar none. I don't care what anyone in the east says....name a player out there w/ Dietrich's overall talent...you can't. Of course I wish he would have followed his dad's footsteps and gone to Muir...I know SF fans, but a man can dream, right?

If Bingo played wideout and not QB I'd move him up the list...he is a SUPERB talent at reciever.

For the fifth slot, I think I'd throw in Chase Rettig. Great talent with a good head on his shoulders. Haven't seen the Maranatha kid but I hear he is legit too. Cat fans are BIG on Williams so he could be here as well. If Burbank was included in the WSGV I would HAVE to put that AWESOME lineman Sebastian "something" in here... that dude is a MONSTER.

I'm with Goldenarm. Marquise is a third year varsity player with the speed and the size to go D1 at his position. And more importantly he is a great guy, very well rounded athelete........Las season was kind of a bust. But when you can play 6 games and accumulate 1200 yards you're on to bigger numbers if you stay healthy.

Marquise Williams of Monrovia. Has the size and talent to rock the SGV.
