Should there be an ambulance at games?

In case you missed it....

A scary moment in the final minutes of La Canada High School's 21-17 nonleague loss to Alhambra last Friday fortunately turned for the better.

Joe Hughes, a 5-foot-9, 260- pound senior lineman, suffered a concussion after a hard tackle. He did not attend school Monday but is expected to be OK.

La Canada High School principal Damon Dragos confirmed Hughes did suffer a concussion but did not know the grade of its severity.

Because there wasn't an ambulance on site, the game was delayed 30 minutes while paramedics arrived to transport Hughes to a hospital.

Thom Simmons, the CIF-Southern Section spokesman, said the only thing the section requires of the host school is to have current physical examination paperwork on file.

"Having an ambulance on site is a school-district issue," Simmons said. "What happens on their property is their responsibility."

School districts who require an ambulance on site, like many in Orange County, will delay the start of the game if there is none present.

La Canada, however, does follow its guideline of having a doctor on site for its football games.

There have been a few times when I've gone to cover a game in Orange County and the referees would not allow the game to start until an ambulance arrived. Now, that's a school-district rule.

I can't imagine what the parents of Hughes were going through during that moment as his son lay motionless on the field, the moment intensifying more because of the long day for an ambulance to arrive.

Fortunately Hughes will be OK.

But that got me thinking, should schools be required to have an ambulance present at football games like many schools in Orange County?

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

The thing is, RCTPA driven Forex Megadroid is way too recent to know what it is worth. On the other hand, forex ap turbo has proven to be very reliable. So if you want to be safe, stick to the former and if you want to explore new ways, try the latter. Also, I agree with other posts: fx automoney is quite good.

I was at that game. The paramedics showed up in 10 minuets, but the ambulance took every bit of 20-25 minuets.

I was at this game and it was a bad situation-one thing i can say is this... i saw the hit standing on the alhambra sidelines it happened about 20 yards infront of me.he was hit and tryed to pop up and walk off but was stumbling really bad, a few players ran over and held him up then he took acouple of steps and fell hard again...laying on the floor the stadium was quite...i walked over too see walk the ref was telling the coaches ,they said "it's gonna be about 20 to 30 minutes" tell your boys to relax.... i watched as the team drs. ran over the help out and watched the boys family come on to the field..the one thing that bothered me was that everyone seemed to be doing this and doing that and not really focused on the fact that a young man was laying on the field motionless..im not pointing fingers at ANYONE im just saying that football is a violent sport and for the family it was a very emotional time but for everyone else is didnt seem to be a big deal...i sat on the bench and said a prayer for this young ...i love this game and wish i would have seen more intrest by everyone..the game went on and the moors went deep to number 1 crokum ..another win but a tuff night for 1 family..im glad to hear he will be fine...just my thoughts..

OH BY THE WAY THE AMBULANCE TOOK ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO GET THERE... AGAIN GLAD HE WILL BE FINE..

I have seen games delayed because an ambulence was not present. I truly thought it was mandated. If not, it really should be.

Miguel,

As an EMT, which most ambulances at h.s. football games are, its hard because EMT is mainly a private run industry. The local Fire dept may have EMT's on staff, but they are regulated to the engines, or the city ambulances. The district would have to have some sort of contract with these private ambulance companies. While i think its worth it, the ambulance company may not want to, because there may be more money in medical transport and EMS situations. Orange County schools may set aside a certain amount of funds for that specific reason, something that SGV schools may want to look at. Hell if they want to pay me, to be at certain games, if i am not on shift, i'm there.
