....Star Picks....This is why I'm hot

Star-News preps writer Keith Lair and I will be going head-to-head throughout the season, and I will update our records each Monday on the "Star Picks" thread.
Melendez: Last week: 15-2; Overall: 52-22
Lair: Last week: 16-1; Overall: 56-18
I got ahead of myself...I knew I had done great with my picks last week so that's why I wrote the headline, and just when I was about to add the other verse, "...You ain't cuz you're not" I realized Lair got one up on me. In my defense, Marshall let me down. Godinez is in its FIRST year of varsity competition!!!!! And my other hiccup was picking Salesian over Bosco Tech. Lair's lone mishap was Cantwell over San Marino. I knew better.
This week will be a good one. I'll most likely be covering Muir so I hope to get the red carpet treatment over on Lincoln. But check out the other games: San Gabriel at San Marino (Titans streak about to come to an end); South Hills at Rosemead (Panthers will give Huskies a run for their money. I was this close to picking Rosemead but I had to go with the obvious. Panthers' home-opener on Friday will be on a new field); Temple City at La Salle (Rams rebound at the expense of another Lancers loss. Someone told me I need to stop saying Chase Rettig can throw. I know he's had some tough games but the kid is good. This preseason schedule will only make La Salle better come league play); South El Monte at Alhambra (Moors will prove how good they really are); and Glendale at Arcadia (the return of Golper. This will be a very close game. Glendale as you all know is much improved).
So how did you guys like the video? Was it OK? It was my first time. I promise my next one will be much better. I'm curious if you guys are into the 2-minute Drills. I didn't see many hits on those but hopefully they gain some popularity.

In between me and my husband we??? ve owned far more MP3 gamers more than the years than I can count, which includes Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last several years I have settled down to one line of players. Why? For the reason that I was satisfied to d iscover how well-designed and entertaining to make use of the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I don't know what Ciara has been up to for the past 6 months. It's been a long time since Ciara dropped her cute track Ride, with that exciting music video! Ludacris seems to get his albums on time, so where has Ciara been? I really can't wait for Ciara's fourth album, Basic Instinct, to get released. It is truly killing me.

Each of these President obama and Ahmadinejad are plagued with uppity peasants. Obama in the Tea Party. Ahmadinejad with the Green Revolution this is now hogwash.
The megastars of TLC's latest show "Sister Wives" at this time being looked over by Utah police force for possible felony bigamy, Kody Brown, plus his 4 wives increasing publicity aided by the TLC show began to pull the attention and suspicion with the police, actually, authorities apparently started considering the Brown folks sooner than their tv program even opened last Sunday.

I dispise being so judgmental, but Sister wives is throwing weird
You have a terror signal for People in america traveling in European countries. Then again the joke’s on you, terrorists – we are unable find the money to visit The eu!
Nice that Lindsay Lohan is getting earnest with regards to herself, she demands treatment like Mel Gibson would need a professional, ideally the woman doesn't get released from rehabilitation premature this time around as becoming let go early from UCLA was more than likely the main simple reason why she relapsed so swiftly in the first place, so i am praying for your needs entirely Lindsay, seriously you'll be able to handle your addiction.
This is Embarrassing that we get Extremist Foreign Political Figures on our soil immediately after numerous years of hatred towards our nation. The united states should step out of the UN and teach all of them extremists our thoughts of there riduculous ideology. Qaddafi, Ahmadinejad, Chavez, and many others have far to long been welcomed to this Sacred and Incredible country. I only say Enough is enough, Shut down our doors to those Hateful Bastards and Say Never again to the U.N. Get out, your NOT nor have never been welcome.

In my opinion Obama might be wasting his time refuting Ahmadinejad simply because a considerable amount of American’s happened to be lumping Ahmadinejad as one inside the same category with The president—though if The president is accepted, and who knows in cases like this, I reckon that right here is the one instance that Obama doesn’t fault Bush.
Lindsay Lohan “I have hardly ever abused medicines. I never have – never during my life. I have no desire to. And that is not who I am,” Lohan says. “I have admitted to the things which I have done – to, you understand, dabbling in certain things and seeking things ’cause I'm younger and interested and imagined it's like, o . k, ’cause folks used to do it and other people stuff it in front of me. And I see what occurred in my life simply because of it.”
Rahm Emanuel disqualifed from running for Mayor of Chicago? He will never permit some thing such as the law be in his way.
Lindsay Lohan Goes to Rehab Today. Great alternative perhaps being in treatment usually means she can't infringe her bail conditions and be thrown in gaol prior to the case. If for the hearing her solitary violation has been determined to remain the one failed drug test the sentence ought to be 1 month in jail and that's it.
I dispise being therefore judgmental, however Sister wives is throwing creepy
Terror alerts in European countries. Proper. I am additional fearful of idiot gun folks within this country. Generally feel safe within the EU.
Lohan Goes to Rehabilitate Today, She's going to be out by Friday. All it takes is a couple of days of feeling "very good", and she will reckon she can do this on her own. Already been through it... done that! (May i get her physician's contact number? Concerning ADD).
Fantastic that Lindsay Lohan is getting absolutely serious dealing with herself, she needs to have rehab like Mel Gibson needs to have a doctor, with some luck she will never get discharged from rehab early on this one as being freed early from UCLA was in all probability the main reason why she relapsed so fast in the first place, i will be praying for you entirely Lindsay, genuinely you're able to conquer your harmful habits.
All the best regarding top post, eric
Stupid can be as stupid does...this whole thing is mostly a joke. Lindsay Lohan is going to do detrimental drugs considering lindsay would not "get it"...The whole court system is a joke. Perhaps you should put her in some prison in Cincinnati or some other place in Ohio where there is not any overcrowding then there is no ridiculous system that on a regular basis let's individuals get away with ****. At the very least if she will continue on to do harmful drugs she really should be "prudent" about it without get caught...or else, keep going with what you are doing Lindsay lohan and why don't we drop you into Afghanistan with our really daring troops who’re losing their life everyday to give you your ignorant so-called "independence".
Lately, Rush portrayed stuff of President obama and Hillary Clinton and also other Dems and then suddenly played films from Ahmadinejad’s spiel and pointed out that they both repeat the same things while dealing with This country and capitalism.
CNN's Rick Sanchez reported the Jews run CNN. Ah, so that's who we blame for Rick Sanchez.
Lohan Is going to Rehabilitation Today, She will be clearly doing this for a stunt to attempt to diminish her sentencing in October or even totally evade any jail time. She is so very clear and predictable.
This has been an entertaining read. Gotta love Los Angeles. Some things never change.
Lindsay Lohan “A lot of these were my high school years … but they were while in the public eye. I had been reckless. I got experimenting. I'd been doing some things that men and women do ten times more of when these people are in high school.”
There will probably at all times be a person doing one thing solely for the impact worth of it. Darling Gaga had said she would not wish to offend vegans and that she isn't a piece of white meat.....okay what was the girl's meaning?....what will we have now experienced through the announcement this lady was trying to make? I'll let you know..virtually nothing. All we're going to bear in mind is the "meat" clothing. Think about how much time this woman stays up nights thinking up tricks to keep us writing about her.

Make sure that the play calling is scripted from start to finish.
burbanksports,
Sounds about right to me...although the potential is defintely there to beat Burroughs by more. Good luck tonight!
Ok, Stang Fan here you go....
Muir by 12 over Burroughs.
Burroughs should be able to keep the ball long enough to keep it close.
Burbank by 1 over CV.
I think this is a must win for Burbank to establish some credibility.
I recommend Huck bring in a female Offensive Coordinator from the state of Alaska.
The humor is enjoyable, but Pasadena truly has enough talent to support more than one good team. Back in the day, beating Pasadena was a benchmark.
burbanksports,
Any predictions on Muir/Burroughs and CV/Burbank?
Anon: In respect to MHS v Rio, you are right, you should win the game. However, is it wrong for a parent to be proud and hope for the best? Is it wrong to be your kids #1 fan? It is a blog and people will be obnoxious. If we are to follow the standard you explain let me take it to your level.
If you are a parent (and I doubt that) than you better look at an education because your post had to be translated by a 12 yr old for me. "Cuz" is not a word and next time proofread.
If you are a student at Rio, talk to your English teacher, she or he would shudder what at you wrote.
Good luck at the game, I hope it is a good one with solid competition and classy players.
With all your talk, you better win or be ready for some humble pie.
Huckster....keep the Khaki pants and the red polos on your coaching staff and you'll get the job for sure!
Angry Dena Dog,
THAT'S the spirit!!! I'm telling you h.s. fans, this could be the dawn of a new era on Sierra Madre Blvd. The Huckster leading the dogs to the PROMISED LAND. Man, oh MAN, I can just see it now......
Huckster, do yourself a favor though. On his way out, as your brother stares you intently in your eyes and sadly pouts, "Et tu Brute?".....just ignore him. You'll feel a LOT better, TRUST me.
HIRE THE HUCKSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Huckster
I WILL be your campaign manager. Your first event will be at the next PHS home game. We will hold a rally in the stands, thereby distracting the opposing team, allowing PHS to score, (na nevermind that probably won't work either) Our slogan will be "Change" ( I hope we don't get sued by "That One"s campaign) We'll change the colors of our signs to something traditional like RED & WHITE, and instead of a packaderm or a jackass we'll using something original for our mascot, something like, ahh, ah, A BULLDOG !!, yeah that's it.... After your done speaking we'll blast our campaign theme song "Atomic Dog" But remember we must stick to the issue's (or THE issue) of FIRING MILLS!!!! and having YOU replace him as the "NEW" headcoach at PHS.
And with your skill, knowledge, and tenacity you will lead us to a Tussle victory and the fall of the evil dark empire on Lincoln Ave....(cue up the music, hands in the air) bow, wow, wow, yippee yo, yipee yeah............
If we are at the point of now asking for the Huckster to coach our team, and NO ONE ELSE lord please help us!
why must all the maranatha parents keep bloging about how goog maranatha is?? i just dont get it.......the past your years they have been out scored 136-39!! i hope they dont think that all the talk is gonna make their kids better athletes cuz it sure hasnt happened yet.....ok maranatha won their first game against rio last. The fact is that maranatha had better field possition the whole game even though they had less total offence. RH should have easily scored two or three times near the goal line but was unable to prevail.....so what if schiltz is going to a d-1 school. last year the kares faced Magee who had a way better arm and a group of recievers around him and the kares won easily. so what makes you think that schiltz is gonna make a difference??

sstress...yes the game for saturday is off. no, the problems and issues we've had this season have nothing to do with the players, the coach and his staff, or the principal.
Bob anon,
No, no. I just beleive that once Monrovia reaches our potential the CIF will have no choice but to move us into the Southeast Division, possibly into the Pacific League. I am just recycling conversation....
Attention NEW YORK:
I enjoyed your evaluation of new head coaches. You mentioned that Monrovia may be moving up a division.... do you mean that they are leaving the Rio Hondo League? Say it ain't so... (from a LC fan)
Burbank supports Huckster!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay fellow bloggers, here's the new web address:
www.hirehuckster@hs.com
Make your voice heard!!!
The Roof The Roof The Roof is on FIRE we dont need no water let the Mutha Huckster BURN!

Okay....everybody now....start low and build to a loud and glorious crescendo.....
"hire huck...hire huck...Hire Huck...Hire Huck...HIre HUck..HIre HUck...HIRe HUCk...HIRe HUCk...HIRE HUCK...HIRE HUCK...HIRE HUCK!!!!"
New York
I agree with your M-town assessment. It unfortunately spells tough times ahead for my team of choice, unless something can be done to step up a tier in competitiveness. A big % relates to the talent pool as well as other factors. Maybe post-season we could torch this topic in detail.
Having seen Maddox work twice now (3rd time coming up)I am beyond sold on his ability to connect with kids and teach - and he already has a legion that have praised his work ethic. With an Admin singing the same song...it could be a great time to be an M-town fan in the years ahead.
To put it in perspective, I would feel good having my kid play for a coach like Maddox. It was the same feeling I had when I met Mike Mooney.
The "Hire the Huck" petition has my signature guaranteed. The ultimate agent of change.
"sstress said:I just heard that.....Millennium forfeited...a team from North Ca with a fist year program."
Miguel can you confirm this? I see the game was removed from maxpreps. Was it canceled or did someone forfeit?
Anon,
Golper is not 100% by any means, it's only been a bit over 3 weeks. A star has to play no matter what. I can imagine that he'll be 65% to 70%. The ligament damage is what will probably nag him all season. I can't wait! If anyone hasn't seen him play yet, your missing out!
This is basically the playoffs for arcadia, if they lose, I don't see them beating two of the top teams because the tough games are all at the end of the season.
Glendale is for real, but arcadia is semi healthy and that's what they needed most.
Huckster,
Hell yes you should be the coach!!! Are you kidding me?!?! You'd be the "realest" coach of ALL TIME!!! No PC statements about "one game at a time," or "that's a good football team over there." You'd be a sportswriters DREAM coach.
I hereby nominate the one, the only....THE HUCKSTER as the next head football coach at phs.
Oh, and btw Huckster, everyone does have dreams, but then that morning alarm rings and rings and reality reappears. So go ahead and set your alarm for Nov. 14th sometime around 9:30 pm.
LET'S GO STANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
real hsfbl fan-
Golper did save the day against Burbank last year when he scored with 17 seconds left. But whats the story now? Someone said he is still hurt but will play anyway and then someone else said they watched him at practice and he was chasing players down from behind and was as fast as ever. Real curious if anyone knows. Miguel?
Stang fans it's me the Huckster no impersonation my Bro can’t lead us to the promise land! They should make me the coach and we could start competing. Reyes, the Dogs can't go 1-10 the can only go 1-9 or 0-10! There is still a piece of me that thinks we could get our first win on November 14 and if that was to happen the season would be a GIGANTIC success!!!!!!!! Everyone has dreams!!!!!!
sstress,
In many regards I agree with you. I do think that signs of progress can be immediate (how is morale, does the team look more organized in their losses than they did last year, is the team in the game more of the time than last year, etc.)
I think the few new coaches around the valley have very different circumstances and should be graded
accordingly.
Coach Pickens at Marshall: Turning in a winning season may take 3+ years, but going 5-5 next year would seem like an amazing turnaround after 0-20, right? Hopefully they can scratch out a win or two this year. Losing has become accepted at Marshall.
Coach Parks at Blair: Blair had one if its best years in recent history last year, capturing the RHL championship. However, the program was still fragile, as a winning tradition had not yet been established and expected. Nonetheless, going from 9 wins to 0 wins would be a travesty for which the entire administration should accept responsibility. Blair may have a tougher pre-season this year than they did last year, but I dont know.
Coach Maddox at Monrovia: Similar to Parker at Blair, Maddox inherited a league champion, but that is where the comparison ends. Monrovia has committed several million dollars to a school renovation, including a new football field and stadium. We are a one high school town and expect to win a CIF championship soon. Our enrollment is bigger but our division is lower than when we competed for CIF titles in the late 1990's. High expectations aside, we have to realize that we dragged our feet and did not hire a new coach until very late in the year. Maddox needs at least 1-2 full seasons to get our guys physically fit and mentally prepared to compete for a CIF title in the Mid-Valley. Once we get bumped up a division or two, we will reassess. One more metric will be his record against Arcadia....
Please note: My assessment above was limited to the on-field results part of the discussion. By no means do I mean to reduce the importance of teaching good character and helping the guys become contributing citizens. However, I feel that those characteristics often allow programs to have long-term success.
My predication: Arcadia 30 Glendale 24....close call for AHS. Golper saves the day!!!
sstress you got to give the guy at least 2 years to see what direction the program is going in. Remember Tip was 2 and 8 his first year with wins over Marshall and Hoover, no great shakes. Give coach Parks another year, he would have been on campus for a year, got to know people and able to urge some players to come out and play.
Hopefully he's not having problems with the administration as the word is Boccia will go back on his word. If that's the case all bets are off. If not reserve judgment until 11/2009 and see where Parks takes it.
OOPS! I MEANT WE STILL HAVE SOUTH PAS NOT LA CANADA...BUT MAYBE THEM TOO..
I just heard that.....Millennium forfeited...a team from North Ca with a fist year program. My only hope for a Viking win…just went out the window..well we have La Canda to look forward too!
BTW, I think three years is too long to give a coach and his program a chance. He should have one year to show what he can do. For example Blair’s new Coach. I am giving this program one year…I don’t expect a RHL championship, but a few wins would be nice to begin the program…but loss after loss means something is wrong.. your players (I don’t think so, they should be able to be molded into decent players at least), your program, and or your coaching skills is the problem. OR, I heard Coach Parks is having great difficulty with Admin… the bloggers may be right about principal Boccia and the idiot of an AD they have at Blair.

Miguel, could PHS Bulldog 1-10 football team play Keppel at end of football season??

New York I'm wondering who has the longest losing streak in the area?
Keep your head up Eagle Alum it really can't get any worst.
I meant to say "Eagle Alum," but I assume that you are a fan as well. Good luck.
Eagle Fan,
I will likely vote for the candidate that I dislike the least, but that's what I usually do.
As far as answering your question, here you go. You probably won't like the results.
1) Why should you be optimistic?
- It really can't get any worse than it has been.
- I don't want to point fingers, but Marshall does not have THE longest losing streak in the area.
- Have Marshall's margins of loss gotten smaller since last year?
- It sounds like the team has been getting closer to victory.
- I don't remember many pessimistic winners.
2) How long should Coach Pickens get?
In a turn-around situation like this, I say a true test is giving a head coach a full three or four years so that you can evaluate how the entire program functions under his leadership. The other thing to consider: Who would you replace him with? Who would be willing to take the reigns in the situation that you and others have described below? You may only get another guy who is cutting his teeth. Just like the "good teachers" typically get assigned to work with the AP classes, the proven and experienced coaches typically inherit programs that are already winners and may just need a little tweaking. Ironically, Marhsall really needs a turn-around specialist.
I would recommend that the Marshall coaching staff spends a weekend at the Markham Ranch in San Bernardino for a coaching clinic. Coach Markham's double-wing would probably be a great system for you guys to implement. www.coachmarkham.com
Pacific League predictions-
Burroughs at Muir- Blue and Gold offense shows up, Burroughs good but field goals won't be enough to keep up with Muir.
Glendale at Arcadia- Nitros get first win over Arcadia since 1991.
Pasadena at Hoover- PHS shouldn't get too much resistance from Hoover. It will be good to see the Bulldogs put something positive together.
I can see it all ending up this way...
Muir
Burbank
CV
Burroughs
Glendale
Arcadia
Pasadena
Hoover
New York I feel what you are saying and I will keep pulling for my boys but like the candidates last night you have no answer for the tough questions you just keep reading from the cue cards. The questions actually can’t be answered because like the economy it is what it is, but thanks.
Annon 7:41 thanks for the update on Terrell. If what you say is true it makes sense why our program is in the toilet and for that we can thank principal suga pants and vice principal waterhead. If coach’s can conduct themselves like that and go unchecked by their school look for the program to fall off. I'm not surprised, in the last couple of years I've heard this type of stuff goes on at Marshall.
I know we put Godinez on our schedule because we thought it was an easy win. But since that didn’t happen if we want a win it has to be tomorrow night. GO EAGLES.
Goldenarm sir,
Instead of taking a deep I will be sippin'
on a cold one tomorrow night watching my Dodgers!
check this out and you consider this...
So.El Monte two wins La Puente 0-4 Pioneer 1-3???
Not to mention the fact Pioneer put up 40pts?
look the bottom line is that there offense is
very explosive, but I believe the Moors have the
athletes to shut them down.If that happens and the
Moors continue to click on offense ATOWN will get the W!
I'm not going to predict an upset,
cause St.Francis should win,
but don't think the Don's
are just gonna lay down for the Knights.
It seems as though SF doesn't throw the ball
too much so the Don's will be ready for Mr.Reiley.
If Rio Mesa held him to 58 yds rushing,
theres a good chance the Ranch can do the same.
theres a very tough and scrappy group of kids down there.
Burroughs at Muir- MUIR wins this one and the offense ACTUALLY shows up this time
San Gabriel at San Marino- SM wins a close win. THis one is virtually a toss up and either team is quite capable of winning.
South Hills at Rosemead- Like Miguel, I really considered RHS in an upset, but I just think SH has a little more.
Temple City at La Salle- Two teams that most bloggers did not expect to see with losing records. After hearing about LS's injuries I've gotta go with TC.
South El Monte at Alhambra- This is going to be a fun game to watch. ALHAMBRA is on a roll though and it should continue this week.
Glendale at Arcadia- My upset of the week here...I'm going with GLENDALE. I need to see something out of Arcadia this week, and the reality is this game is going to make or break the Apaches playoff chances. I still have them missing the playoffs though with Muir, CV, Burroughs, and Burbank as the top 4 finishers.
St. Francis at El Rancho- SF in a laugher...
Millenium (N. Cal) at Blair- A team is actually traveling down from Nocal to play AT Blair? On a Saturday? At 3 o'clock? MILLENIUM by 14.
Cantwell Sacred-Heart vs. Bosco Tech - CANTWELL rebounds.
Duarte vs. Gladstone- DUARTE wins this handily.
La Canada at Arroyo- Normally I'd go with Arroyo, but this go-round I'm picking LC. BTW, what ever happened to that dude "Ur Worst Knightmare?"
Rio Hondo Prep at Maranatha- THE NATHA wins this battle which might begin to turn the tide in this small-schools battle.
Pasadena at Hoover- Did Huck really say, "Go Hoover!" Man times are rough in East Pas...still it's frickin Hoover we're talking about here. phs wins this game and gets a little confidence back.
South Pasadena at Keppel- Just like the phs, SP is lucky to be playing Keppel this week....SP wins big.
"The principal, vice principal, school Supt. and board knew of the coach’s behavior but did nothing so he had to leave the school."
If these allegations are true, then the students at Marshall need a lot more than a good wide receiver. They need to enroll in a new school district, public or private.
Eagle Alum,
In regards to Terrell Burnett, from what I hear the major reason he left Marshall was because of threats made to him by the head basketball coach at Marshall. As you probably know Terrell was all CIF Div 5 1st team in basketball. What I’m told Terrell and the head basketball coach had some sort of altercation when the coach threaten bodily harm toward him, told him to leave the school because he would sabotage his senior year. The principal, vice principal, school Supt. and board knew of the coach’s behavior but did nothing so he had to leave the school. I don’t know where he went but the football team sure could use him.
justafan,
take a deep breath my friend and consider this: San Dimas and the Ayala Bulldogs, 2 SoElMo losses.
Nick Barbone behind a huge O-line at San Dimas. Double power running backs at Ayala.
When you stand behind statistics as you have- it is wise to also consider the quality of opponents.
That said, I hope Cazz has a good night and continues to put up impressive numbers. I would love to see the Moors do well and prove me wrong.
Reyes,
If things are really that bad, chances are that it would be 1-9, not 1-10. No playoff birth with just the 1 victory.
Eagle Alum,
The only thing I can say is that losing sucks, and I feel your pain. I beleive Rickey is a good guy, but I have no idea about his coaching pedigree so I can not opine on that. Since when did level of experience matter anyway? Getting the guys fired up is all that matters, right? (Ha1 That is my poor attempt at political humor on the night of the debates). Look, I played ball with Rickey. He is from Pasadena, comes from a tough background and likely has some valuable lessons he can share. Whether Marshall turns the corner and wins some games this year is as unpredictable as the Dow Jones. Just like with the market, my money says yes.
As for your cousin who is a freshman skill-player, I'm sure Goldenarm and Temple City can find a home for him.

Huckster,
THANK-YOU FOR WAKE-UP!!!
You stated I’m disappointed as hell!
THANK-YOU FOR WAKE UP!!!
You stated Kevin is his own worst enemy!!!
What took you so long to see the LIGHT!!!
Thank-You for all your support in keep PHS Bulldog a loser!!!
Just like you!!!
Enjoy your 1-10 football team this year!!!
Enjoy your 13 or 14 loss in a roll to Muir this year!!!
These class of young mens have you to blame!!
Once again THANK-YOU!!! CLASS OF 2009!!
Coach Howard needs to take the soccer coach to lunch.
Hal Lam,
You are absolutely right. The kicker situation at Muir is dire at best right now. We WILL NOT win anything in December without at least a decent kicker.
Coach Howard, there's got to be PLENTY of kickers strolling the campus somewhere. Make it happen!
I have learned the last few years not to place any bets against Rio Hondo Prep. They always seem to surprise people.
burbanksports,
One kickoff vs. Burbank? Darnit! Lord knows I hate soccer scores...especially nil-nil. Oh well, looks like we'll be have to go to overtime on 1905 N. Lincoln...AGAIN! Don't the words "Lance Mitchell on a naked boot" just make you squirm Burbank fans?
@ burbanksports
thats 2 kickoffs every quarter. Like StangFan said, hope your quarterback can tackle!!! make sure your defense gets plenty of rest, because ours works in overdrive, leaving little time for your offense to be on the field. Get used to the term 3 and OUT!!!!

Sir Goldenarm,
"No I don't hate the Moors"?
Now who ever used the word hate?
All these intelligent facts you state to back
your opinions are just not making sense anymore.
first of all, you go against your Alma Mater every week.
Second of all "So.El Monte blocks and tackles better than the moors and are more discipline defensively"?
Have you even been to a So. El monte game this year?
I highly doubt that......so how do you justify these non-facts? If I'm not mistaken there discipline defense has given up over 150 pts in four games???
Tackles better? more discipline?
It's becoming really obvious Golden the only loyalty
to Alhambra is picking the other team every week and WE LOVE IT! PLEASE GO AGAINST A-TOWN CAUSE IT'S GOOD LUCK FOR THE MOORS IT'S GREAT MOTIVATION!!!
Goldenarm and New York I understand your point but I also understand anon 2:02.
Believe me many people have taken a leak or two in the corner of that tent since we went to the semi’s a few years ago. We are 2 up and 34 down in the last 36 attempts, 24 losses in a row so it’s not about pissing in a tent.
I have a cousin who goes to Marshall. He has played a skilled position all through Pop Warner and has been around football (high school, JC) forever. I tired to talk him into playing but he said, “Please”. He went out to a practice just to see what was going on and he told me a few weeks ago before any games were played that the practice was terrible. After watching practice and seeing no fundamentals being taught this 9th grader told me then, Marshall won’t win a game this year and he is not getting banged up for nothing. He will be transferring out of Marshall after this year to play somewhere else.
Goldenarm and New York I enjoyed my time at Marshall and want to see the football program as well as all the programs do well. So tell me why I should be optimistic? Being realistic this is what I see:
1. We have a losing mentality.
2. Contrary to the article in today’s paper my cousin tells me some players have lost their will and are no longer having fun so they are thinking about quitting.
3. We have a head coach who has no coaching experience at any level and does not know what he is doing. He is talking about getting the players fired up not blocking and tackling. So how long does this dude get for on the job training?
4. We just lost to a team who has never won before with many players that played Pop Warner last year.
Mountain View is probably our last chance this year to win. Kirkpatrick is probably a winnable game but it is the last game of the season and if we are 0 and 9 at that time it’s a wrap.
Please give me something positive to look at. Miguel you can join in too.
Where is our best player from last year Terrell Burnett?
D.Wright,
Speaking of weak, Maranatha has faced 4 teams that have only six wins between them and 13 loses! And if it wasn't for a prevent defense (Prevent win defense) from LaSalle on the last drive of the game, the Minutemen would be 3-1.
Also...Small? Small? here's small for you:
2004 - 49-32 RIO
2005 - 50-0!!! RIO
2006 - 37-0!!! RIO
Let's deal with facts, not emotions D.Wright. (Must be a Democrat).
Hal-
Don't worry...Muir will only need someone for 2 kickoffs over the next 2 weeks.
Maranatha vs. Rio Hondo
Maranatha will surely win this match-up. Rio Hondo is small and cannot match-up good with this team. They are weak at the quarterback position and they don't have the speed that the Minutemen have. Their offensive line is also weak (maybe that's the problem with the quarterback). Prediction: Maranatha 35/Rio Hondo 12.
Since some people have brought up the topic of kickers--who are the areas top kickers? lets give those guys some love too
having a kicker who can put it in the end zone - easily can be the difference of who wins and who loses.
Hey miguel,
I been gone for a while but my stangs have been balling! this week should be a good gasme see u there!
budpirate and all fans who come out to Glendale High to play-
I want to apologize for the lack of parking in general and in particular the restricted parking on the streets that run by the visitors side of the Glendale High stadium. These new parking regulations came into effect this school year and were pushed by one very loud neighbor who is inconvenienced by the football games.
Construction around the school has not helped the parking situation either.
So come early and grab a spot in the lot at Verdugo and Broadway.
Tickets happens all over though. I went to a Muir basketball a few years ago; loved the game, hated the parking ticket.
The Stang Fan-
With all the soccer players Muir has, I'm surprised they don't have a kicker on the football team that can reach the end zone on every kick off or line up for an extra point. Is their guy just injured? Come December a kicker becomes a lot more important.
Welcome Huckster to the world of the "ANGRY DENA DOG" This is the most frustrating year since I've been following PHS (1974). It's like no one at PHS (Admin, coaches, staff. students, parents, etc)is willing to say anything to mills. On the HS website they're asking for donations to build an Athletic Facility, or to donate to the "Bulldog Wall of Fame" well at this rate neither one will be built.
I agree with stangs 03, it's not much of a rivalry any more, thanks to mills. How sad that one person could ruin a tradition that was once filled with spirit and pride.
My heart will always bleed for the Red & White, but for now I must take a step back........
"Sturdy as the Mountains
Lovely as the Dawn
Hail Pasadena, Fearless and Strong.
On Every Field of Glory Triumph
Alma Mater Dear
Hail Pasadena! All Hail, Hail, Hail!"
Maranatha has had very good QB's the last few years: Schulz, Clash etc. and I'm sure RHP will have their hands full again this year with Schilz. But it won't be the first time they faced a future Division 1 QB (Andy Magee).
The fact that Rio Hondo Prep has outscored Maranatha 136-39 the last four years is what makes this game special. It amazes me that a co-ed school with less than 100 students can continually beat schools with much higher enrollments. The coaching staff should be commended.
Good luck Minutemen!
P Finchamp-
Schilz is going to K State on a scholarship. He committed on Aug 1. I don't know about a parent connection but I think one of his QB coaches played for K State Coach Ruggiero and sent tape and then Matt performed well at a K State camp. Matt seems pretty excited from what I have read.
P Finchamp:
Welcome back. You haven't lost a step during your vacation from here.
Will we see you Friday night at MHS
Minuteman 4 life--
The last time smack talk came out from MHS before a game with RHP the Minutemen were in the RHP locker room after the game apologizing for their behavior following a 50-0 trouncing. It is precisely RH Prep's defense that Maranatha has had so much difficulty with. In their only victory over the Kares they still had less offensive yardage than RHP. Can anyone mention Schilz without mentioning he is going to Kansas State? Is he going on a football scholarship or did his parents go there?
Yo Galetti
San Gabriel has a little, long haired, lightning quick dude, I think his name was Amador, #5? I mean little, like 5'5 140. He runs hard and gets up afterward. Maybe not the stud that went to Schurr, but a decent option.
Come to think of it, San Gab has more 5'7" and under dudes listed on Varsity than any school I've seen recently.
Friends--
I'm still checking the blog occasionally--has the flavor changed under Miguel or is it just my waining interest now that my son is in college?
Since Miguel covers this side of the 605 I think it easy to say there is interest in the South Hills/Rosemead game but half of the readership is east so let Freddy cover it but don't give that game double billing.
I understand interest in the San Gabriel/San Marino game on a local level for sure but when was the last team either of these teams went deep in the playoffs?
Yes the RHP/Maranatha game is a game of the week. It features two local teams each of which have been playoff bound (deep in Maranatha's case) for several years. Let's not overlook the fact that the San Gabriel Valley hasn't had a CIF Champion since RH Prep in 2005. Both teams come into the game with solid wins and it marks the first time RHP will play under the lights at Maranatha. It PROMISES to be a great game.
And to my PHS friends out there--I told you. Mills style will never get it done at PHS. What a shame. The fact that he remains at PHS after all of the controversy and his poor record is a travesty.
I think that anyone who gives RHP any chance at all at this game is delusional. There is no way that their defense will be able to contain Matt Schilz (bound for K-State) & the Minuteman offense. Whoever the defensive coach is for RHP, GOOD LUCK BABY!!!!
In the Monrovia game, Rettig had at least five dropped passes. In addition, his two interceptions were not because he threw to Monrovia's defense, but because his receivers bobbled the ball, and could not hold on.
A better questions is not whether Rettig could throw, but whether someone can catch.
Monrovia is a VERY good team.
If it weren't for South Hills-Rosemead, Maranatha-Rio Hondo Prep should be a good matchup and game of the week. San Marino-San Gabriel will be intriguing. The Titans played the Matadors tough last season. I think San Gabriel losing its running back to Schurr hurt them. He was a solid option for the Matadors last season.

Whats good folks!!!
Seems like we got some good matchups this week. That Rosemead game should a good one. But of course the Mighty Mighty Mustangs will be the team to see! Haha... Miguel I wont be able to roll out the Blue Carpet along my StangFan, but im sure you will be welcomed with open arms. BTW dont wear any good shoes, because of the dirt around the stands, The Blue carpet only goes up to the ticket window! After that you are on your own buddy. I wouldnt film next to the Drum Section either, 'Tha Section' is deep this year, and we dont want to see the camera vibrating outta control. To all my Burrough fans, welcome to the house of Champions, sit back, take some notes, and enjoy the atmosphere of 'The Stangs House'!!!!
Huckster, that doesnt sound like you. Sounds like someone impersonating you, possibly 'REYES' ehhh? Its not that hard to type in somebody elses, tag. I know you are a ride or die Bulldog. I need some type of confirmation that was you with those words. Please verify your son's nickname he has had since pop warner?
Burbanksports- Do i sense a new Bulldog vs Stang rivalry? We take all comers!!! We are known not to be too kind to Bulldogs, Burbank won't be the exception. You're saying you'll beat the stangs. 'We don't believe you... You need more people...' lol... i look forward to that game!!!
Big Horn
hopefully we get a couple of the walking wounded back this week

Arcadia and Glendale a close one
Monrovia - Maddox's sunburned forehead needs a bye, his team is fine either way
Boy does Muir look pretty unstoppable up to this point! Almost posted a shutout on what was supposedly a good Nitro O! Impressive!
Monrovia crushed La Salle, granted they had some major injuries in that game, the biggest coming to their seniro captain/heart of the team thats tough...keep your heads up LaSalle.
TC gets shelled by Rosemead! Their next game should be a pretty good battle as they face the injury plagued Lancers.
Miguel- whats your reasoning for picking Bosco over Cantwell? don't they usually have a decent squad...since La Salle beat Bosco does that mean come league La Salle should be battle tested and ready to make another run at that title?
Goldenarm-
Any word on the possible injuries for the Rams that might keep them out of this weeks battle with La Salle?
To ComeOn-
If Rettig is so good then why hasn't he been putting up the big numbers taht so many people were anticipating? I heard that he is sailing way to many balls. Where is the Rettig of last year?
Tom S,
P Finchamp said he probably would not be back. I miss his scathing observations as well.
The Blair / TC game was moved from Friday to Thursday night as well.
I wonder if someone from Blair could present a revised schedule. What is the story over there?
RE: Marshall
I know for a fact the kids were optimistic at season start, after that I lost contact with both the kids I knew as one family moved to Monrovia. It is very rare any program that far down the toilet gets righted in a single season, so unless Pickens is totally off course people need to allow the dude a reasonable opportunity to make some headway. Using NY's suggestion, "stop pissing into his tent".
Justafan,
you question a fellow Moor about blue/gold loyalty? A differing opinion based on observation does not equate to mutiny my friend.
The SoElMo offense can both pass and run and the Moors defense CAN be run on without doubt. It is a matter of fundamental football, SoElMo blocks and tackles better than the Alhambra, is more aggressive and better disciplined defensively. Offensively, SoElMo returns Garay at QB, in fact a majority of the offense are returning starters. A potent offense.
These are my reasons for favoring ElMO, not the crap you suggest. Good luck to the Moors and lighten up, the skid marks from my 67' Camaro are probably still on 4th street from back in the day.
Hey Miguel whoever told you to stop saying Chase Rettig can throw, is Wayyy off. Never listen to that person when it comes to football. That kid can throw. I dont know a whole lot about La Salle this season, but I know they have new coaches and a new o-coordinator. So it may take a while for them to gel together. Also I do know that three out of his four best wide-outs have been hurt the past few games. The fourth being a sophmore. Miguel I am glad that you see this kid is good and dont listen to that one guy.
Also Stang Fan, you guys are balling. I havent been able to make a game, but man I hear your defensive is firing on all cylinders. Good Luck against Burroughs, should be a good one.
Just Because:
Not sure why Miguel doesn't have any love for the small schools. I posted this a few days ago and Scott answered but nothing from Miguel.
SGaletti said:
Tom S, Rio Hondo Prep/Maranatha is a nice game. There's no way my friend that it's bigger than Rosemead/South Hills. I'd put San Gabriel/San Marino as a bigger game as well having covered last year's battle and seeing how big the crowd was. But RHP/Maranatha is an outstanding small school game. The burgers are better at RHP.

How can you miss the upcoming small school game of the week next Friday the 10th at Minuteman field.
Rio Hondo Prep against Maranatha. RHP has been the giant killer so to speak 2 out of the last 3 years by shutting out the Minutemen and racking up huge wins and last year Maranatha squeaked out a slim 7 to 0 victory over the Kares team. Look’s like this year’s game could be a 4 and 0 Maranatha playing a 2 and 1 RHP team. Might be the best local combined teams records playing that night.
P Finchamp, where are you?
October 2, 2008 12:24 PM
Come on Miguel. Let's hear from you
Stang Fan- I like it...damn funny. This is much more fun than Huckster.
Hey DeaconBlue,
I follow the big schools too, but a great match up is a great match up, no matter how big or small the school...Maranatha/RHP is a great match up!
So....Yes, I am interested.....I am interested in knowing why Melendez has little interest or respect for this "BIG" "Small School" match up. Sure they're "small school", but when these 2 local rival teams get together, you get a game of the week! Expecting the same this year...
Both teams come into this game with pretty good records. From what I read, Maranatha has a deeply talented team, lots of speed, no losses and are led by a strong quarter back...they are favored to win.....but never count the little guys from RHP out...they have young talent that just make things happen........
Melendez and Prado pick Maranatha.....my pick RHP!
burbanksports,
Yes, the bulbs are definitely working. Oh, and make sure your punter is ready and your QB can tackle.
Stang Fan- save the blue carpet for when The Burbank High School rolls in next week. Oh and make sure all the bulbs are working on the Visitors' side of the scoreboard.
I was at the A.H.S. vs So. Pasadena game on friday night.
I read a blog about how that Crockum kid was shut down by one of there corners I believe it was #7.Tough kid good football player. The only reason why Crockum had below average game is because all the other Wr's had an above avg night wich is a good thing.Mitchell is a great team player, never leaves the field, and claps his buddies all the way into the end zone.Just as a spectator it was very obvious that nobody on the tiger team is athletic enough to shut him down 1 on 1 that is taking it a lil too far.I'm not saying the kid didn't do an excellent job
the first half but the moors held the troops back the 2nd half w no passing cause they had no reason to.Had they did i'm sure #1 maintain's his wr avg but who cares!
If Moors can stay healthy and continue to improve they can be a tough team to recon with...and that Brian Gonzales kid has a BIG TIME leg i'm surprised he don't get more pub...he's way under the radar.
Huckster....looks like we both saw the same game Friday night. I could not believe the play calling by whoever on the Pasadena side.
Huck,
I never seen you like this before. You seem frustrated. Are you writing off the season already?
Yo Stang fan....ha ha it's all good homey you guys will be just fine and i'm pretty sure you will sweep the foothill and I hope any of our sgv teams make a good run in the play-offs cause thats really all that matters right? I know Burroughs will be tough but speed will get at the end it always does.....hopefully we can linit our mistakes and D-up on a very explosive offense and we should be just fine.GOOD LUCK!
Did Coach Mills once coach under Coach Tip?
Hey Anonymous 2:02pm,
Godinez website shows that they opened in 2007 with an enrollment of 925 Freshmen and Sophomores. One year later, I just assumed that their enrollment would be north of 1100 now that it should include Junior, Sophomore and Freshmen. The upper end of my estimate is probably high, but I would not be surprised if they had up to 1300 9th - 11th graders.
The most important thing, though, is that Godinez does not have a history of losing. Their coach does not need to pull a program out of the abyss.
I know that losing is VERY frustrating, especially when Marshall was in the semi-finals just a couple years ago. That probably seems like ancient history, two coaches removed.
Marshall is not the only team in the PUSD searching for its first win of the season. A couple other teams had good-to-great seasons last year but have plunged worse than the Russian Stock market this year.
I know one thing, Marshall will not become successful any faster with you pissing into the tent.
ha lol my bad stang!--Sent from my Helio
Ok, where do I start? Kevin is his own worst enemy! He could’ve been a decent head coach, but he doesn’t know how to relinquish his powers to people that knows more than him. He has no clue about football! This is not a bad thing he doesn’t know football, but what’s bad is that he listens to no one! I hope PHS goes 0-10! Let’s go Hoover!!!!! Oh, I do not want Tip as our next coach! I’ll say it again, that Kevin would be a great AD! I’m disappointed as hell! Reyes, your a coward!
Miguel,
Gang reference? No, no, no...you've got it ALL wrong. I was referring to the fact that the tradition at Muir is to NEVER wear or display anything red AT ALL. You know, because of the rivalry with phs. THis has NOTHING to do with any sort of gang affiliations or references. C'mon now Miguel you know I don't get down like that.
justafan,
Touche with the 18 points retort...you got me on that one bro. I had that coming.
Yo tiger fan....
We did most of the damage in the 1st half.
Cazarin only threw the ball twice in the 3rd...
I'm pretty sure had we stayed in the air it would have been ugly...Our running attack will be just fine and ready for league and Crockum will be one of the top Wr's in the area.I pretty sure he doesn't mind having a below avg game when his counter part,Brian Gonzales has 197 yds and 3tds! That's like saying D.Reiley had a bad game last week against Rio Mesa with 58 yds rushing.that's 90 yds below his avg but D.Reiley will also be on top at the end........I think your Tiger team is young but show some promise for the future.GOOD LUCK!
Miguel, Im glad u picked san gabriel. Because after San Gabriel shows that "balanced" attack you speak of I should not see them in the top five after this week. Oh I took you on your offer. Lunch at chilies but the one off of Washington/Rosemead.

First, let me make clear, if Alhambra played SP 10 times or more this year they would win each time. Except for a couple of players the Tigers are young and/or inexperienced. That is the simple truth so so be it. However, I must tell you that your read on the game is simply inaccurate.
While Peco did a nice job carrying the ball 13 times for 97 yds and Imaa broke one off late in the game when SP did a terrible job tackling, the run game had little to do with the result (Crockum had 18 yds on 3 carries). Where this game turned from the outset was the ability of the Alhambra QB to hit receivers who were wide open because of the inexperience of most of SP's secondary. In fact (and the film should show it) probably 70% of the 357 yds passsing were due to a SP safety who had not played football since his freshman year, only came out after the San Gabriel game and had been in for about 15 plays in the Glendale game before last Friday. Quite simply he was not ready for the game, at that time, at this level. However this kid is such a good athlete, being All Area in another sport, that I strongly believe he will improve tremendously over the next few weeks and may make a difference come league. Having seen SG, Glendale and Alhambra I concur with Miguel that the running game will have to improve if the Moors are going to make real noise in League and in the playoffs.
I also have to comment on three great performances. First, as noted above, Cazarin passed extremely well to his receivers. Though they were clearly open, he did not miss a beat and took full advantage. Second, was the work of Alhambra's receiver and kicker Brian Gonzalez. While he made the open catches and ran well with them, what impressed me most was this kid's foot and technique. Right now Miguel, hands down, he is the All Area kicker and should be a solid D-1 scholarship player at that position. Finally for South Pas I want to mention Steven Colliau. He had 9 catches for 136 yards on offense, and covered Crockum 1 on 1 with no double or triple coverages (sorry justafan) for most of the game. Crockum only caught 2 balls for 33 yards, about 90 yards a game below his average. Also neither of those were made when Colliau was covering.
All and all, while Alhambra is no doubt a good team, and has the personnel to be a very good one, they need to step it up. As for SP, lets just wait and see if they can improve.
Apparently, the SM vs SG game is going to be SM's homecoming this year. How interesting.
Yo Stang Fan-
It's called 1st game of the year,9 turnonver's and over 2oo yds penalties.......that's like asking you guys how you only scored 18 points??? Come on now homey it's the 5th game of the year let's just enjoy the start of league play...well actually we got one more tough pre-season game So. El Monte has a great offense.I see the stangs will have there hands full as well...good luck!
I think the game between SM and SG will be a shootout with SM coming out in then end.
The titans are on a roll and coach mooney and coach moreland will have them well prepared.
Matchup of the week:
The Stang Fan vs. Justafan
ha!
Geez, blue carpet. Lets keep the gang references outta this blog. Here's my sidenote: I spent a good chunk of my childhood and teenage years in Compton and Watts. So believe me, I know.
Like I said, I think Rosemead will give South Hills a run for its money. I expect a close first half and then the Huskies to pull away in the second. SM-SG will be a great game, but I'm gonna stick to a league game with Muir-Burroughs.
Bulldog Nation,
This is a rebuilding year!!!
It o.k. to said it.
This will be a 1-10 team this year!!!
It o.k. to said it.
We will lose once again to Muir!!!
It o.k. to said it!!!
Two month until basketball season start.
It o.k. to said it!!
PHS will keep Coach Mills on for another year!!!
It o.k. to said it.
Let us hope he resign!!
It o.k. to said it.
Keep it real!!!
It o.k to said it.
Miguel,
You will no doubt be welcomed at 1905 N. Lincoln. No red carpet of course, for obvious reasons...no red on the campus at all!!! We'll go Snoop on you and offer the blue carpet instead.
Anyhow, the first five games you've listed are ALL pretty good games. I'm glad to see that you're leaning towards Muir/Burroughs as the Game of the Week, but truthfully, as a fan, I'm actually more intrigued by the South Hills/Rosemead matchup. The #3's from the Trib and PSN respectively going head to head sounds like a good game. SH should win, but I think the Panthers will make a game out of it. In the Southeast there are really only three teams that will likely win the 'ship...CO, Muir, and SH. If Rosemead does really well against the Huskies this week, well frankly, I just don't see SH in the picture any more.
SG vs. SM will be a FUN game to watch as will SEM and AHS.
**Sidenote, Glendale did play a MUCH better brand of football than in year's past...but come on AHS fans (specifically justafan) how did the Moors let the Nitros score FOURTY-FOUR points against them?!?!? And you say your D is "for real?"
These games, plus Muir vs. Burroughs and two struggling but decent teams in TC and La Salle should ALL make for a great Friday night.
Yes the Blair game is at Blair. But it's not on Friday, it's on Saturday. JV is playing at 11 am and Varsity at 3 pm.
Last week 16-1.

I predict a win by......RHP! As long as their pass-defense holds.
Miguel, In past years this WAS the game of the week. How about this week?
Take it easy on Marshall? A long season is an understatement. Marshall's Varsity Football team got beat by kids 1 year removed from Pop Warner. Godinez is a fundamental school in Santa Ana that goes from K-12 and has approx 900 students. Go easy? Congratulation Godinez.
Yo Mr. Goldenarm sir-
with all the great match up's this week, why do you
single out the So.El Monte game along with the moors
getting blown out? are you still bitter from TC game?
It's fine that you pick So. El Monte cause your entitled
to your opinion, but it feel's like you have a lil something against the Moors......Oh well like I said
the Moors will prove themselves FRIDAY NIGHT!

Miguel,
I told you b4 the So.Pas game Vy Peco would be the key
to the Moors success from here on out.Well the moors rushed for over 200yds with the nice combination led by Vy Peco,Daniel Imaa, and Mitchell Crockum,in wich I thought was a brilliant move by the O.C.When teams think they can double and triple Crock, well now what happens when he's in the back field?
And please understand that ATOWN's Defense is 4real...
They will prove it on friday night against So. El Monte,
who has probably the most potent offenses we will face in regular season.
Actually, the game is at Blair High. Coach Parks told me himself when I was interviewing him for the football preview. I'll double-check again.
REYES,
I don't care if Coach Mills sits half of his starters & brings up some freshmen, you still have got to pick the dogs over Hoover.
Has it really come this far? Is phs potentially looking at a 2-8 season? Maybe even 1-9? Outside of the dog fans, I think most people predict a Glendale victory over phs this year. Not that it means they will of course, but it just goes to show you the gigantic descent the dogs are on after just one year. Btw, I believe Coach Mills is now 15-21 after just three and a half years and he could be 17-25 or 16-26 at the end of this season...not NEARLY what had been PROMISED to parents and alumni when he was hired.
Speaking of phs parents...again Coach Mills, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Those people are BRUTAL when speaking about the current coaching staff. The Huckster is right though, the majority of them are intimidated by him and are afraid to approach him on any of their concerns.
All this leads me to ask phs fans, especially their biggest fan of all The Huckster....If Mills is fired or resigns at the end of the season, who would you like to see as the new coach at phs?
I would imagine many alums will say Coach Tip, but are there any other coaches out there under the radar or some that could immediately bring credibility back to the program? Yes, I love winning the Tussle every year, but I also hate going into the game knowing that we'll win. When that happens, you don't have a real rivalry and this has been happening for YEARS now. It's quite sad really...
I am taking it easy. I said the same thing to Rickey Pickens not long ago over the phone. I'll have a story on Marshall in the paper tomorrow.
SoElMo 38
Alhambra 21
The Milennium Madmen play at PCC, hopefully the Green Acres bus ride will leave them delirious and the Vikes will get a win.
Either way, if you go to PCC to see the game watch where you park. Leave your vehicle and blink... it has a ticket stuck to the window. Predatory parking control.
Miguel,
Go easy on Marshall. Losing to a first-year varsity program does not tell the whole story. It is easier to start from scratch (0-0) than it is to start from 0-20. It looks like Godinez might have anywhere between 1100-1700 students (Frosh - Junior) without a deeply engrained losing mentality.
South El Monte got its first varsity win over a rebuilding Monrovia team during Coach Garrison's first year in 1993. Damon Griffin was a senior at Monrovia that year, too. We had some great ballplayers. Sometimes it takes a lot for a team to learn how to win after losing has been accepted for so long. Ironically, Marshall's Coach Pickens was also a senior on that Monrovia team. Rickey was very good.
What I meant to say was SG will have an easier sail from here on out. No more Cathedrals or Serras...I think SG will beat SM simply because the Matadors have a much better balance attack than SM.
Alhambra should be 4-0. They finally played the way I thought they'd be playing. If they can only get a running game to add to its offense they'll be really good. Actually, I'm about to call Ruedaflores right now to tell him that.
And thanks, Sam. The video was my first try here at the Star-News but I'll do more down the road fo sho. I'm pretty comfortable in front of the cameras. TMZ can follow me any day.
Great job on the video Miguel! Wish you had that for the TC/Alhambra game.
Didn't you say earlier that SG should have easy sailing from here on out? I don't see that at all. I believe SM will beat SG and make them 2-3. You will still rank them up high. Its ok though league is coming up.
The Moors will be the team to beat from here on out. They started out slow but I think they found what they were missing. Moors are a better team then you let on to believe. They lost to Glendale when they shouldn't have but they did and I except it. Come from behind wins is a good thing because they never gave up. So. Pas. was a blow out at halftime. Now they get to show you how good they really are. Moors will be ready to roll. Go Moors!!
Bob Anon
I agree with you.
The Knights have come around and La Canada is better than advertised.
Pasadena at Hoover, 7 p.m. -- Melendez (Pasadena)
Melendez,
you pick PHS Bulldog to win this week???
I will not pick PHS Bulldog to beat Pop Warner Team at this moment!!!
I hope this pick do not come back and bite you!!!
Believe it or not, the La Canada at Arroyo game looks to be very competitve. Both teams have had a blowout loss along with close, tightly-contested losses. Perhaps home-field advantage will make the difference for Arroyo... I don't know?
Great Job Miguel...You handled yourself well...You're no Sarah Palin (:
