Taking a closer look at Bishop Amat

Bishop Amat is ranked No. 1 by the Tribune. The Lancers hung close to Inland Empire power Los Osos before losing, 24-20, to open the season.
Bishop Amat then shocked many when they overcame a 24-0 deficit on the road and rallied in the third quarter to stun Orange Lutheran, one of the top teams in the state.
The Lancers are led by quarterback Jerry McClanahan who gets plenty of protection from a *stout* offensive line. (Note: I had towering line but that was my bad, blogger dude. Freddy gets the assist on that correction, too).
The defensive unit is anchored by UCLA-bound linebacker Isaiah Bowens, who is expected to make his return Friday, and UCLA-bound cornerback senior Sheldon Price.
Others can be a big factor, too. Seniors Brent Seals and Jesse Prieto are strong linebackers along with Jonathan Maffie, who also is a senior. Deshawn Gaisie will get a load of carries at running back.
The Lancers defense have shown several different fronts and coverages and have the ability to blitz and also play man coverage. They can rush five and play zone, too.
Bishop Amat boasts an all-star coaching staff and at the center of the defensive schemes is former USC standout Daylon McCutcheon, the defensive coordinator.
Steve Hagerty, a 1980 Bishop Amat alumni, is in his first year as coach of the Lancers and boasts an impressive resume.
Hagerty won three consecutive CIF-SS championships from 1997-99 in his first head coaching gig at Paraclete, and later won two more as an assistant at J.W. North and Citrus Hill before returning to Bishop Amat.
Bishop Amat has played powerhouses Los Osos and Orange Lutheran, handily beat West Covina (4-1) and Damien (1-4), and edged Diamond Ranch (1-4).
The Lancers have played far more superior teams than St. Francis has, making Bishop Amat's schedule stronger compared to the Golden Knights'.
"It's not going to be easy," Bonds said. "It's by far the toughest game we've played."
It's going to get tougher for St. Francis the following week. The Golden Knights will then face another Serra League powerhouse in Crespi, who is 4-1 in the season and also play in the PAC-5 Division.

David Vamplew when asked what the differences between online and offline gameplay are: "I don’t think there is as massive a difference between live and online poker as most make out. It is essentially the same game, and if you are seasoned player online poker you are certainly not likely to find any major difficulties being successful in offline or live games. I certainly prefer playing offline since even more intelligence about your compeditors is available to you. Even just observing your opponent behaves at the table for minutes can tell you alot about their habbits and this is an additional stage of interrest to the game."

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.
I think all of the fans may like it too.
hahhahhahahhaahhaaaaaa!
You St. Franics people always think you can beat the mighty Lancers while playing a soft schedule!
Consider yourselves educated...AGAIN!
AMAT WILL SHINE TONIGHT!!! AMAT WILL SHINE!!!
Stang Fan,
Good comments about Golper. I truly believe in this kid. He will be a great ambassador for the sport we love, and he's the type of kid that will never forget the people around him or his roots.
the realhsfbfan,
So these bunch of "no names" and another "No Name" named Chris Cabrera would "destoy" every school in our area? Lol....sorry bro, it was just WAY too tempting.
Btw, I don't care what ANYONE says about Golper. The kid is GOOD! It's impossible to be a one-man show in the game of football. This isn't basketball or baseball where a dominant scorer or pitcher can take over the game all by themselves when matched against good competition. The problem is people still hold football players up to those same expectations and expect the player to "rise above" and completely dominate the game...that simply doesn't happen in football. But that's the reason Golper gets lambasted or criticized as not being the player people think he is. Listen, Scout.com, Rivals.com, DeWayne Walker, Rick Neuheisel, and ALL the other coaches that are on Golpers nu** know WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY more about football and prospective players than ANYONE who types anything on this blog. I think I would trust their opinions over folks like us. Of course, not all players pan out in college, and the naysayers than say "I told you so." But I wonder how many of those same people crowned other pop warner and high school "legends" as "the next great" and that kid was never heard from again. (Sorry I'm ranting now...) Btw, these college coaches have their CAREERS on the line when they recruit kids. Walker didn't just give Golper a scholie because he played with his son. If enough of a coach's prospects don't pan out than that coach will be updating his resume faster than he can say his name. Scholarships aren't "legacies" anymore or gifts given to just any ol' body. And Golper isn't just any ol' body, he's a REALLY good football player....PERIOD!
Good luck TG, can't wait to see you perform on Saturday's the next few years.

Keep in mind that the current team that makes up the Amat squad is not the same that started the season.
For one, here has been a change in quaterback, and as was mentiontioned here, Bowens will be back for the Lancers for this game tonight.
With all those players in place at the begining of the season, Amat is probably 5 and 0, instead of 4-1.
Also, this Amat team has improved steadily every week so far, with the possible exception of the Diamond Ranch game, where they were challenged by a team that was suppose to get blown out on regionaly televised game.
The only problem for Amat in that one was that, no one told the DR players that they were suppose to get blown out. They came to play.
Hey Huh,
BTW, I don't think you know about the great McCutcheon family (Daylon is the defensive coordinator @ BA). Daylon's dad was a star for the NFL-Rams. Daylon himself was a star at BA and was a 2nd team all american corner USC.
Daylon played 103 NFL games and had 463 tackles, 7 sacks, 12 interceptions, 63 pass breakups and 8 forced fumbles for the browns.
More then just names...
Huh? aka left bench,
Yes, we all know you are a recent grad that rode the pine at SF. Now you are back after graduation as a cheerleader on this blog. I thought SF would have taught you better english though. i can't believe they are pushing kids through school like you at SF without testing your english language skills.
SF has a a good defense every year? Didn't you all miss the playoffs last year?
Lets set the record straight buddy. Everyone knows what happened to todd golper against St Francis. Midway through the 1st quarter he broke his toe and played till the end of the 3rd and he still had 21 tackles. The play you are referring to was the draw arcadia ran and golper fumbled the exchange, picked it up off the hop with his head down and was met by No Name chris cabrera and five other no names. Yes, it took five other no names to take him down. Golper will go on to have an awesome career at UCLA and possibly pro, while you will still be hating life and have nothing better to do but take shots at good high school kids because you were never one.
Hey smart guy, how can bishop talk all they want when you're the only person talking on the blog? Stay in school kid. Leave the bloggin to the grown ups.
towering offensive line? not likely. theyre 5'11 across the board, with one at 5'9. theyre stout, but short. we'll see how things play out. rian younker is a beast up the middle, and there has yet to be a team that is able to contain him. and what happened with the last UCLA bound player we faced? well lets see. his name was todd golper from arcadia. remember him? we sat him outta the game. our junior middle linebacker named chris cabrera laid him out on a run up the middle. we shut him down on offense AND on defense. we shouldnt have any problem doing the same. and as far as coaching staff goes, theyre just a bunch of names. all our coaches played college ball this and college ball that. hell, our defensive line coach won the fiesta bowl in playing for the U of A. our defense is incredible every year. we havent given up more than what? 13 points all year to one team? talk all you want bishop, but when gametime comes tomorrow, get ready to get smacked in the mouth. i promise you that
