....The Straw Poll....

Here you go, MuddyWaters, all because I'm a man of the people...This question comes from one of your very own. I thought it was a good topic so I decided to give it its own thread.
EVERYONE is invited to take this STRAW POLL:
With the rash of injuries as of late being reported from different high schools, I am interested to know what impact this has had for ALL of our kids. So here is what I am asking from each of you:
1. Please list the name of the local school and number of players from your team that have had a major knee injury this football season. (Please no player's names for the moment. A "major knee injury" is anything where a player is unable to play for 6 weeks or more. I may consult an Ortho Sports Med guy for a better definition in the future).
2. Second, list whether the team plays on grass or artificial turf.
3. If you know the player was injured on grass or turf that would also be helpful.
Miguel, you may want to consider making a sticky thread of this post so this list can be updates as the season goes on. Anyone else have any thoughts or information we should be asking? Thank you in advance for everyone who replays.

Chris Nowinski wrote a book titled "Head Games" that has pushed forward a major study highlighting the long-term effects of sustaining concussions. His conclusions are that people who have suffered concussions have brain trauma that is consistent with advanced Alzheimer's. The problem, is that many of the cases are guys in the 40's and 50's!
Make sure your helmets are properly inflated and don't hit with your heads.
Anon,
Thanks for the response. So far, 6 players artificial, 0 Grass.
I don't want to say who the players were, but I do know 2 players that tore their ACL on Notre Dame's turf field, one of which who tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus (the major ligaments in the knee). I also know one who tore his ACL at Chaminade's terrible turf field.
King,
Thanks for the info...
Miguel,
You're than man. Thanks for making this a sticky thread. It will be interesting to see how many kids are injured and on what type of surfaces. In the future, a discussion could take place on prevention of such injuries for these young warriors. I wonder what other schools are doing to prevent these injuries as well. Thanks again for any responses.

I believe La Salle has lost 3 Players to knee injuries and all occured on the artificial surface...two complete ACL's and one Partial MCL...the injury bug has hit that squad incredibly hard this season, but they're a young team so look for big things out of them next season
