Philly B,
You don't think there is any chance that SM could beat Monrovia like in 2003? That victory gave SM a playoff spot and knocked Monrovia out. I hope that does not happen, but lets not have too short of a memory.
Philly B,
Your a good guy. I will be attending Monrovia and Muirs CIF games thats if arcadia doesn't make it. You will probably see a very very young arcadia team friday night. I believe there is 6 to 8 sophs starting and two freshmen starting. At the very least, you will see the future of arcadia football which in my mind looks great. Sometimes, mostly in public school systems, there are bad years... Private schools just reload.
the real hsfbfan,
No problem, I want all of the schools of the WSGV to be successful. I plan on being at the arcadia game to meet up with some friends. They're playing CV right?? I thought last week was a home game and when I drove by it was pitch black dark over at AHS. when I looked at maxpreps I saw in fine print Burroughs h.s. I was mad about that one. And I knew Monrovia would blow out blair so there was no point. But I definitely want to see arcadia finish strong. And I told my friends I'd go
Goldenarm,
Thanks for recognizing that I have been right all along about San marino. Now dont get me mistaken, SM will make a few and I mean few plays and put some points on the board. They have a good coaching staff and they didnt blow out those inferior teams without good coaching but when it comes to teams that can compete and have more speed on the opposition Its a different story. San Marino will come to play because they of course dont want to face a #1 ranked team in the division first round of the playoffs. But in the end Monrovia will prevail in the 2nd half, Cole&williams will be too much for the titans defense. And our pass defense like I said like to come and help out in run support and make plays. So that will help out on the run game SM will try to put up.
Philly B,
Arcadia needs the support. Thanks for it. I don't see burroughs losing to burbank. Burbank isn't good at all.
Observantcat,
As far as your comments for monrovia go, I couldnt agree more. Cole is the real deal, and if he would get more touches the rest of the area would see that. And Monrovia had a chance against rosemead and came up short which is sad. Think if we would of won that game, monrovia would be getting all the love but I think the ctas losing that game made them stronger and taught them how to finish the game 4quarters you know. I hope monrovia goes far and battles hard in the playoffs, but I just feel that this year with the division being realigned again this year, it should be much more interesting. I know everyone was wanting to see Duarte vs. Blair last year. But this year there is so many possibilities in match ups just for the first round. Azusa, San Dimas, Duarte are coming into true form. T.C. is taking care of business, Monrovia is getting wins where it is expected to get wins. San Marino finally realized that its not gonna be a cake walk. I think T.C./SM was a wakeup call for the titans. And the game this week against the cats will be the snooze button for SM. And of coruse Rosemead has been getting the love and press from everyone and it is well deserved. So I look forward to seeing some good games in the playoffs. As far as Monrovias defense is concerned. I havent seen San Dimas play this year, But I guesss they're ranked #1 in the division for a reason right?????? I cant wait. I hope Muir takes care of business this week in the tussle and lets other teams in their division know that the Mustangs mean business and they're not looking to just show up in the playoffs but looking to put some teams away in the playoffs.
GO CATS, GO STANGS, GO RAMS, GO FALCONS, AND GO APACHES(PRAY FOR BURROUGHS ARCADIA)

You lost all!!!, no playoofs no league!, now go get prepared to wash the floor of your kid when he comes back home feeling like a loser....MOORON! hahahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahaahahahhhhahahahah

I saw Garrison on the TC side -
Muddy and lsparent,
From what I understand the Spring program was in disaray, because the old head coach did not leave until after spring break and then there was about a two week or more search for the new head coach. People held it together, inlcuding the old head coach and the new head coach, but Coach Peterson (the new head coach) barely had enough time to get a summer program going that he wanted let alone a spring program. From what I have heard a lot of what the lsparent is saying, is what is actually going on.
Also I would like to note that Coach Gallagher (the old head coach) went 2 and 9 his first year. So it isnt quite time to jump off the bandwagon yet.
Goldenarm,
Which sideline was Coach Garrison on? Football is in his blood and he is probably friendly with most coaches across the valley. I would be shocked if Garrison is not coaching again next fall, whether it is a Varsity program or a Freshman program.
Stang03,
No prob bro. Afterall you know how we STANGS stick together.....right Huckster! Lol.......
burbanksports,
Yes, I do have little faith in picking your boys over their crosstown rivals. I just think that #22 is going to go CRAZY in possibly his last game at home. Btw, I thought the EXACT same thing about having Glendale go to the playoffs if all three schools wind up with the same record. However, how fair is it to reward a team with a trip to the playoffs because of their dismal past. Not quite sure if that would go over well with the players and coaches of the other teams who played just as hard and have the same league record. With that said though, I would LOVE to see Glendale in the playoffs this year. It's kind of like that feeling you get when the Clippers, Brewers, or AZ Cardinals make the playoffs....it's just cool to have someone different in there every now and then.
Stang Fan,
i see where my mistake was. I didnt read the question carefully. i got it now... good lookin out!
The stang Fan-
Oh ye of little faith....I'm sticking to my pre-season pick of Burbank by 1 over Burroughs.
Maybe that 4th place playoff spot should just be given to Glendale? Similiar to the Rose Bowl secenario when there is a tie for the spot. The team that has gone the longest without a trip-gets in. That seems better than a coin flip to me.
$15,000 for a head coach?!? I'd like that verified, I am a High School Coach (not Football) but we have been told that all the Coaches make the same $$. I make CLOSE to 1/4 of that for a full year of Coaching.
Thats often why Coaches leave. I can make more money doing the detention duty at lunch than I can coaching.
Huckster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
Bro, I haven't attended a Pop warner game since *I* was playing....many, MANY moons ago. It's funny, on Fred's blog last week I was a coach while someone else said I was a particular player's parent. Look, I'm just a fan of my Stangs, nothing more nothing less.
And as far as the Stangs being "shut out" in the bowl......you already know my response to that. Just in case you've forgotten....blah, blah, blah!!! Bingo, Myles, Marcus, Tyree, and Jarron are going to dominate. And you already know the defense is going to SHUT YOU DOWN. The only thing that can hurt Muir is if phs sends their goons to the "Chicken Tussle" the day before the game to start some sh** and get players suspended. Other than that....watch out!
Stang03,
Hal was talking about a three-way tie for FOURTH place which is the last team in the league who gets a playoff spot....of course to the #1 seed who will BLOW them out.
burbanksports,
If what you propose happens then the league will look like this:
1. Muir
2. CV
3. Burbank @ 4-3 w/ wins vs. Burroughs and Arcadia
4. Burroughs @ 4-3 w/ a win vs. Arcadia
5. Arcadia @ 4-3 and no shot at the playoffs
Here's what's more likely after CV beats Arcadia, Burroughs beats Burbank, and Glendale beats Hoover:
1. Muir @ 7-0
2. CV @ 6-1
3. Burroughs @ 5-2
4. Burbank/Arcadia/Glendale @ 3-4.....coin flips? Remember, Burbank beat Arcadia, Arcadia beat Glendale, and Glendale beat Burbank.
Hal-
The whole mess for the rest of the playoff spots will happen after Burbank beats Burroughs and Arcadia beats CV. Muir is all set at #1. Spots 2-5 are the ?'s.
Isparent,
I appreciate your concern and was shocked as well. I have no doubt the comments I made would be alarming and cause some to question both my intentions and sources. I get it and would do the same. I wish I could say more. Transparency in situations like this can be a good thing.
@ Hal Lamster
If Muir, CV, Burroughs all win, how is there a 3way tie? Muir is undefeated in league, when the beat the HS. Am I missing something?
Stang,
The guys from "Dena" is doing good.....You should come and check them out on Saturday at 1pm @ PCC. Should be a good game.
huck,
how is trump and the other pasadena guys doing at gcc?
Pasadena High School will shock the world on Friday night! I know you people are going to be laughing at me, but I don’t think Muir will score in the Bowl. Yes, I said, “MUIR WILL NOT SCORE”! I also think Muir will have 5 turnovers or more! They will labor on offence all evening, because a lack of a running game, which is required in games like this! They’re coaching staff is going to panic once the game hits the 4th quarter and they are down. I’m going to be having so much fun after this game that it’s going to be illegal! Kevin is going to be the only opponent I’m worried about in the Bowl! If he thinks and don’t take the game out of these kids hands, it’s going to be a lovely evening! I love playing with the house’s chips! NOTHING TO LOSE AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN!!!!! This is going to be “FUN”!
PHS 15 MUIR 0!!!!!!
I can’t wait to go to that Muir tailgating party and crash it with all my crazy a$$ antics! This is so much fun! LMAO!!!!!
Stang Fan,
I told you at the Pop Warner game that the Dogs are going to shock yawl! I just hope you have enough heart to come to Trumps game at PCC @ 1pm
GA: & Philly B.
I think that Monrovia hasn't nearly played up to it's potential this year considering all of what the team has had to endure. DJ Cole is the real Deal on offense. He is to Monrovia what Ruckle is to TC a mid season Savior. If Williams were out I think their might be some big surprises with him in at running back and Cushman at the other halfback position. If you look at these two guys stats you would think that with 100 or more touches this season they might have gone way over the 1000 yrd mark by now. That is what makes Monrovia the team to beat in the Mid-Valley. I know San Dimas is getting a lot of press over on the eastside but if they come in with the defense they have now I would bet TC, San Marino, and Monrovia would shut them down and win by 7 plus points. Nick Bueno is starting to use his QB skill as best he can for his height. He is perhaps one of the biggest weapons Monrovia has in terms of the unexpected. I'm hoping that Coach Maddox really see's the potential of his teams offense and uses it to its fullest potential. I have no doubt that that they can prevail against anyone in the Mid-Valley Div. Rosemead has a tough D but Monrovia look better than the score indicatd coming from 14 down in the first quarter to going up by 7 in the third. Mistakes have haunted Monrovia all season and they somehow manage to still win, but in the case of the Playoffs you must come prepared to play and leave the mistake on the practice field. Monrovia's Defense is going to be well rested against San Marino and speed will play the biggest factor in stopping the San Marino running attack. San Marino will have bigger issues trying to stop Monrovia's running attack especially if we choose to play three backs. All in all it should be a great game. GA: As far as TC is concerned they need to just keep playing like they have been playing in their last 5 games and try and wear La Canada down, But I saw something in La Canada's defense that You dont see to often and thats their quickness to the ball. You will have to have success from both running backs to put the game away against them.
Muddy -
I noticed your two posts - I am a parent, with a son in the La Salle football program. I am curious about your sources. You always have well thought out, and respectful posts. I showed my son the posts, and his reaction was "huh?" - more one of shock.
I agree this season has been a disappointment for La Salle. To address your points (my opinions):
1) Yes, Gallagher and DiFiori left. La Salle did not let them "jump." It was more "we are leaving for another job." How do you get them to stay when they decided on another path?
2) Coach Peterson was not an "unproven D-coordinator" but the La Salle D coordinator for many years. Yes, it was his first head coaching job, but we still agree with the choice. The decision was made in part due to his long involvement with the program, and the respect he had from the players, parents, and faculty.
3) Ok - I agree with you on the offensive play calling this year - we scratched our heads many times - 3rd and 1 and using the shotgun?
4) The conditionaing program was not "tossed out." It fell into a state of neglect when Gallagher and DiFiori bailed, and the leadership was left in limbo for about six weeks.
5) My son was not aware that "some" of the coaches are blaming the players for the poor season. This is a new one on me (and him).
6) I asked my son (as you suggested) what the "locker room/football environment" is like now. His answer - they know that they need to finish this season, they know the injuries did not help, but they are optimistic about the future (aka "next year.") Also in my conversations with the parents, yes, it is one of disappointment (yes, 1-8 record is disappointing) but we are supportive of our kids, as we know they are still giving it their all (at least those that are still healthy.)
I am sure that changes will be made. As Goldenarm stated, La Salle will not settle for mediocrity. I know that the conditioning program will be a top priority. We are all for and supportive of any changes to improve the program.
I am still wondering about Muddy's sources - what "issues" are there, and what "changes" need to be made. Maybe this is not a forum to discuss, but maybe Miguel could do a story once the season ends.
I was a little taken aback by the comments. If the comments are factual, I am the most clueless parent involved with the La Salle program, and my son is clueless then too.
Muddy,
I have been watching LaSalle this season as well. And while I agree with some of your statements I must admit that the talent level is much lower than I have seen for the last 2 seasons. (the only two I have been attending).I am not trashing anyone, just being honest. The offense was struggling early and from what I heard the OC was demoted a few weeks ago and the last 2 games have been even worse. I agree that the HC could possibly be beyond his capabilities, but I think the injuries depleted what was already a thin team, and honestly have seen some silver linings, like Chase Rettig's athleticism, he is far and away the teams best athlete, but i gotta honestly say I have seen more drops from those around him, than I can recall on any varsity football team I have ever seen. I have heard whisperings as well about the off season training program but kinda give the coach the benefit of the doubt going into next season, Lets just say I am hopeful yet have my doubts about the coach's ability.
Philly B
I think I got the formula right, but whether or not SM can do it....that is another case altogether.
TC put together 15 1st half first downs against M-town, so we ran on them fine, we had drives of 75 and 80 yds - BUT and that is a large BUTT...we did not capitalize!
SM's offense is now pretty much a clone of TC's offense...but without the studs up front. Forgatch throws fine in my opinion, but he is not the experienced 2nd year Varsity QB Wright was. Your view might be 100% on the money...it has been so far.
As I said earlier, M-towns D-line was the best we faced this year, nearly on the plane with Rosemead, were it not for Diaz at DE for the Mead.
My only thought is SM will come in well prepared...though not riding the pillowy confidence cloud the Rams ejected them from.
I expect the Titans to compete.
Moormom
LOL! don't be mad sugar....you just have to accept defeat and the reality of how pathetic an overhyped the nomoors was. Besides SG lost by a touchdown against schurr. Aron cantun one of Schurr studs broke his arm in this game, thus making it one hell of a game. But your a woman, you don't understand this at all. Go make better use of youself and cheer for the SG team on playoffs.
Hey JFMatador... didn't you guys lose this week? You sound stupid... Shut up already..
Goldenarm,
You are asking alot of the titans to do against monrovia this week. I mean slow down williams, dont let Cole get the big play, contain bueno, execute on offense against a monrovia Defense that has excellent run support. I mean Ive been saying this about SM since Miguel ranked them above monrovia. The titans arent used to being the team that comes through in the big game when it counts. That is why T.C. beat them. So many times T.C. and Monrovia battled for the league title, so they know what to expect. I think having back-to-back road games against the top teams of RHL is a bit tough, but grant it, they didnt prepare with there weak pre-league schedule. That undeafeated stuff was all smoke and I knew it. Monrovia's front seven is big and fast. The DB's like to come in for run support they're not afraid top tackle. I dont think SM has what it takes to pull out that kind of upset. La canada either. I mean yeah they held monrovia to only 10pts, but what could they do on offense???? Not much. The rams will be too much for LC therefore the RHL will go back to what it always has been. Monrovia or T.C.#1/#2 vice versa, and whoever wants the 3rd spot between LC and SM. Maybe Sp or Blair will make a case next year but I doubted
CV should get by an undermanned Arcadia squad. If AHS was healthy I'd pick the Apaches, but with Golper and others sidelined, I say... CV by 21
Running clocks will have to be used in the Glendale/Hoover and Muir/PHS games.
I say... Muir by 42 and Glendale by 49
After watching Burroughs dismantle Glendale last week I don't know how Burbank is going to pull this upset off. With Burbank shooting from the hip, it sounds like it will be an entertaining game but Burroughs is a very solid group. I say... Burroughs by 28
If Muir, Glendale, CV and Burroughs win then there is a 3-way tie for final playoff spot. I don't know what happens then.
Muddy,
Obviously you know when it's time to lay back and fire up some Robert Cray or Jonny Lang...or when it's time to speak your piece. I agree this forum is not the place to go balls out. I'm sure there are others who know what you know - and are not feeling good about the direction of things.
I know one thing, when your son (or daughter) is in the program, the time is NOW to respond - not a time to sit back and later regret you did not do all you could.
Good luck and thanks for nod on the game...it was a big win against a very well coached and quality team.
Stang Fan-
Watch the Pacific League really become a mess this week.
Burbank by 1 over Burroughs.
Yes, I know I'm sounding like our friend Huckster, but I'm seeing the moon and stars lining up just right. Burbank will use every 8 man football offensive play in the book to steal a victory. I can see formations that will leave the officials scratching their heads. It will be a high flying circus disguised as a football game.
It's either that or Burroughs by 32.
Salesian mustangs alum
Sorry. We've got Coach Parks and his staff, and we're not giving him up!
Golden,
The concerns run deeper than I have even expressed for not wanting to further discredit the school of La Salle, the players, families, and hopefully some of the faculty who have decision making power over these issues. This is not just a win/lose football issue. Multiple sports are now being affected due to poor leadership at the top and now player’s health is being put at risk. Enough is enough.
I am sickened that these issues have to be addressed in an open forum such as this to hopefully get the attention of the AD/President. If you think this is just an isolated case of a rogue La Salle fan ask any parent, player, or even some of the staff what the locker room/football environment is like now. Even better, come see a game.
What does the future hold? I hate to answer that question in this way, but I will have to say “It depends.”
Base on past “issues” with the La Salle athletic program, I don’t have the greatest confidence the AD has the ability, respect, or personality to address these problem effectively. In fact, these problems have developed for sometime under his watch. I am not going to discuss the other issues surrounding the AD and other sports. Let’s just say there are many issues with multiple sports that need to be addressed and have fallen on deft ears.
If La Salle plans on correcting these issues, changes need to be made. Those changes will be warmly accepted and are greatly anticipated. With changes, the future looks bright. If La Salle continues to stick its head in the sand and take the path of least resistance, I can assure you, I will not be the only one who posts their thoughts on this board.
BTW: Grats on the TC win. What a well played game from top to bottom and the Titans are a very solid team. I guess I won’t see you in those Angel Flight pants after all. :)
A season ago, the city of Pasadena was celebrating several high school football championships and some good playoff success.
Muddy,
I can't imagine La Salle settling for mediocrity or worse....on the field or the sideline.
If you lump La Salle's record with that of other Pasadena area schools Blair and PHS, you are talking major disapointment...at least as far as won/loss records.
Your points are disconcerting and many. What does the future hold for La Salle??
My vote for biggest surprise: Bishop Amat and Monrovia. Both teams have improved their programs significantly and have been a joy to watch. Cheers…
Disclaimer: Before you go any further, please accept my apology for this rant. Those of you who know me from my previous posts have seen me support all SGV football and the players that participate. Someone needs to say this next rant to protect these athletes.
My Vote for the biggest Disappointment: La Salle HS. The previous two years netted 2 league champs, CIF runner-up, and 2 deep in CIF last year. This is a team that returned one of the best junior QBs in the LA County with a transfer from Blair to throw to among other senior receivers (I could name all these players but don’t want to have the coaches retaliate against them). La Salle had three top running backs that went virtually unused 3/4th of the way through the season. La Salle had a number of senior two way players that could catch and have demonstrated solid Defensive play last year. The O-line had 3 returning starters from last years team who won the league title and went two deep in CIF.
How did La Salle reward this success to the players and families? The let their two best coaches/teachers/mentors jump to Bishop Amat (Galagher and DiFiori, Anyone seen what Bishop Amat is doing this year?). La Salle then hires an unproven D-coordinator to take over as head coach, hires a new unproven O-coordinator that has never run an offense at the HS level, throws out the ball control offense that took them to 2 league championships in the last 2 years for a weird 95% passing scheme where the QB never leaves from the shot-gun formation, and tossed out the year around conditioning program that protects players from injury. Now the AD is wondering why so many players have gone down with major season ending injuries?
How are these players being rewarded this year for their efforts? The players are now being trashed by “some” of coaches for the poor season.
New head coach, $15,000. Newly repaired ACL/MCL tear, $17,000. Blaming the poor season on the players? Classless…
One more chance for the Golden Knights to win the mission league. If SF beats chaminade and St. paul beats Alemany then there is a 3 way tie for first. Of course everyones favorite tie breaker, coin toss, will determine playoff seeding. St Francis is really banged up right now. I heard they called up some kids from the JV team including coach Bonds' son who will back up at QB.
Golden Arm -
I'm just trying any angle that I can to make something happen. I'm tired of the opinions from both sides including mine. The only way to change opinion to a more factual view is to have at least one head to head game between Maranatha and any Rio Hondo league school. What I meant by "fear" is that whenever a team plays a school that they should beat, they take a risk.
Obviously Maranatha would have more to gain and nothing to lose but the time has certainly come for their opportunity to play a local team other than Poly, Marshall, Flintridge Prep or Rio Hondo Prep. If Blair can be bold and schedule a game against Whittier Christian like they did last year, then a game against Maranatha should not be out of the question for any Rio Hondo team.
Angry dena dog,
Yes, "keep the faith"! I agree.
Btw, is "faith" a code word for "score below 70?"
Keep the faith Bulldogs!!
You can bet the M-town scouts got an eyeful at the TC/San Marino game. In turn, you know the SM staff is a good one, and has multiple game films on the Cats.
It won't be a case of one guy not prepared for the other.
It could be a battle of - who can execute (SM)and who can bring the big play (M-town).
If Monrovia executes AND snaps the big play, they go undefeated in league.
TC closed out San Marinos run attack in the 2nd half....and they have a solid run attack. Can M-town's D do the same?
San Marino will have to contain Bueno entirely like TC did, and limit Marquise Williams from exploding (like TC did not). They must hope to contain Cole and others athletes from ripping a kickoff return, etc. They should expect a platoon of terror from Josh Lowden and company.
That handled and contained, San Marino wins.
May sound like a longshot. but San Marino can win.
New York,
Former M-town coach Steve Garrison was on the sideline at the TC/San Marino game -
MHS supporter,
While I understand your school and team pride, you need to pop a couple Tylenol PM and mellow out a bit regarding the "FEAR" you think RHL teams have for scheduling Maranatha.
I suggest you take a look at Monrovia or Temple City's preleague schedule - and note if you see any historically "walk-over" teams in the line up. Promote the desire for a scheduled Maranatha game most any way you want, but the fear angle just does not fly.
i think miguel should cover flintridge prep and Rio next week. They play each other for the league title and a number spot in playoffs.
crockum,
Muir 2010. jarron williams needs a reciever to throw to next year.HE is an invitation to the best homecoming fair in the area.
friday 14th @ 11.30 @ muir dont be late !
I think Mitchell Crockum should stick it out and help turn things around at Alhambra. I've seen him play and he's very good. The easy way out for kids is to shop around for a program that has a chance to win a CIF title and jump ship.
I'm old school. "Be True To Your School". Take pride in your school and team and work hard to make them better.
Muddy waters
In my humble opinion the biggest dissapointment of the year goes to no other than to the NO MOORS for sucking so baaad....more like MOORNIGMA! The biggest surprise is yet to come.
P.S if keppel scores on alhambra even once, that's when you know this team sucks...crockum should just transfer to a more successful shcool....then maybe he would get a league or even a CIF championship his senior year! any school recommendations for this kid?
Tom S,
Thanks for the explanation.
I mean no disrespect to Maranatha, its players or supporters.
I guess where I'm going with the previous post is that if there was a PSN small schools ranking Maranatha would be a clear #1. But thrown into the mix with the larger schools from the community it's not likely they are the 4th best team in the area when teams that are not even in the top 10 could probably beat them.
I do think the Minutemen should be getting more coverage from the PSN. The area has an undefeated team and the coverage should follow accordingly especially when the playoffs come.
MHS Supporter,
I hope South Pas (and others) make that call and schedule Maranatha. A game against Maranatha would be a better game than the Tigers' pre season games against Hoover and Keppel and provide a nice upgrade for the Minutemen.
Alambra moorons
TOLD YOU ALHUMBRAH IS NO MOORE! over!!!, loser game of the week
ALHUMBRUH VS MARK CRIPPEL
winner is still a loser :p hahaha
I would love to hear from the community who they thought were the biggest surprises and disappointments of the year. Thoughts?
Hal:
I’ve enjoyed and respected your posts so please note the reasons of my top 10 selections. Overall record, calpreps rating and CIF poll ranking. The PSN area is dealing with schools as diverse as college sports. NCAA, NAIA, SCIAC and the like. All I’m trying to do is even the field. Of course PHS 1-8 would devastate Maranatha and all the other games you mentioned would be so one-sided. Again I’m just trying to do a rating that takes all these factors into consideration.

I think the kid from John Muir #55 should be Pasadena StarNews Defensive player of the year. The reason is I went to MaxPreps.com and I saw that he is the leading Defensive End in total tackles,he is tied for third place in sacks in the Pacific League. And he is only a Defensive end that's some very good stats for a defensive end.Todd Golper should be Linebacker of the year 82 total tackles,1 sack.Ruben Thomas Cornerback of the year 5 interceptions, and very talented on defense.Paul Devine 49 tackles,3 sacks should be first team Defensive Lineman of the year, plus he is a very hard hitter.Plus Todd Golper and #55 from Muir are the two leading guys in tackles that the Starnews covers.Riley from Saint Francis only has 34 tackles,1 interception, and 1 sack.He should make Offensive player of the year but not on Defense. That should tell you something because Paul Devine has more tackles than Riley and he is only a Defensive Lineman when Riley plays Linebacker he should have more tackles than all those players but I guess the real athletes are in the Pacific League. Thanks you should consider my opinions.
To Hal Lamaster -
Let's just see which team calls Coach Murphy from that list to play Maranatha first. I heard a rumor that South Pas was the most daring. Then it won't just be one persons opinion against another. Let's Get It On!!!!

I can't imagine Maranatha beating any of the teams in your top 10 except maybe Rio Hondo Prep.
I would take Pasadena High in a game against Maranatha and the Bulldogs are 1-8, soon to be 1-9.
Imagine the whoopins that would be administered if...
Maranatha vs. Muir (Call an ambulance whoopin)
Maranatha vs. St Francis (Scary whoopin)
Maranatha vs. Rosemead (Serious whoopin)
Maranatha vs. Monrovia (Behind the wood shed whoopin)
Maranatha vs. San Marino (Black and blue whoopin)
Maranatha vs. Temple City (Hide the women and small children whoopin)
Maranatha vs. Arcadia (Big Whoopin)
Maranatha vs. San Gabriel (Just a regular whoopin)
Or
Maranatha vs. Alhambra- (Pretty good whoopin)
Maranatha vs. La Canada- (Just a spanking)
Maranatha vs. Pasadena- (regular beat down)

I know what you mean after our defensive back who's been out for half the season got a pick for 6 in the 4th quarter our team had the momentum, recovered a fumble on the next play then Rocky threw touchdown, it all happened in about 20 seconds
I remember in the beginning of the year you said not to count us out after we were struggling so I know you guys will be preparing for us. We will do the same.
Every year you guys know how to run the ball this year seems like no exception I hope for TC sake Backus doesn't try to throw over us our secondary is good and have step it up in league only allowing 137 yards threw the air.
Can't wait for the game its too bad its at your house. Tough place to play when the crowd is the right size.

I am still buzzin from Friday, that first TD that Ruckle cranked out was flat out amazing...it was like an adrenalin bomb was dropped on TC.
not sure if you remember, but last year yours truly picked La Canada to win/compete for the RHL crown this year...despite being told I was psycho at the time
Obviously I think this game will be a tough one, and I hope the Rams REALIZE THIS. I've heard folks mention LC needed until the 4th qtr to beat SP...and seem to have this overide the fact you had the opportunity to beat Monrovia, and nearly did. In other words - La Canada can play D and make people go 3 and out. If you look at Maxpreps LC players are all over the Defensive stat board.
We also should be concerned with your pass attack, among other things. It is going to be a close game - for sure.
im still waiting for you in that amat shirt miguel
Miguel ,
I think you and fred should to come to and make a mr.valley award for the best player in both valleys! I feel this year the way the playoffs are, the 2 valleys will see a lot of each other! So I think you, fred and other assistant writers will be able to pick someone who is the best player overall offensive and defensively!

First playoff game of the year your TC rams vs. my LC spartans should be a good game. We both have pretty good defense however I think you guys have a better O than us. Maybe we can get our act together this week

I hear coach parks is the Head Coach at Blair .The salesian job is open and we want coach parks and coach mendoza back Blair!!!! They lead our school to an undefeated league championship and 2 round of the playoff. They Turned our program around and left the school on the rise leaving a league championship team the following year and know, our coach has been fired and our program stinks. So BLAIR we will gladly take them off your hands!!!!
I believe Backus said TC is out if they lose to LC and SM beats Monrovia. I have heard the same tiebreaker layout as NY states - no idea if it is still in effect though.
We need to show up ready to play this Friday....sorry for stating the obvious.
To my favorite sportswriter:
Hey Miguel, here's your #1 fan’s top ten list after week 9 based upon what I think the list should be based on. Record, cal preps rating, CIF division polls ranking and overall strength in the PSN area, so sit down let me know what you think about it.
#1 Muir 8-1 Cal preps 34.8 CIF #5
#2 St Francis 6-3 Cal preps 32.4 CIF #6
#3 Rosemead 7-2 Cal preps 22.1 CIF #7
#4 Maranatha 9-0 Cal preps 11.6 CIF #2
#5 Monrovia 7-2 Cal preps 9.1 CIF #2
#6 San Marino 8-1 Cal preps 8.5 CIF #5
#7 Temple City 5-4 Cal preps 1.4 CIF #10
#8 Arcadia 4-4 Cal preps 9.3 CIF U/R
#9 Rio Hondo Prep 5-3 Cal preps -2.2 CIF #8
#10 San Gabriel 4-5 Cal preps 3 CIF U/R
I think the Rio Hondo has a unique tiebreaker. If head-to-head competition does not provide an advantage in league standings, I believe that the tied teams show up to a neutral field the first day after the regular season (Friday or Saturday) and play either a set of downs or an entire quarter. I think we discussed this last year, but I forgot the details. Maybe another blogger can share some insight on this.
Miguel
Everyone is entitled to a few mistake. The key is not making major ones. Like picking PHS to beat Muir. So for me I give you a pass. it's all good
