..............The Ice Bowl?..............

I covered the Monrovia-Duarte quarterfinals game a few weeks ago. It was too cold for my liking. It must have been in the low 50's. My hands were numb and I could barely keep stats and notes as my penmanship went from nice to one of a first grader. The more I thought about it the more glad I was about not leaving SoCal for a job as a sportswriter at the Indianapolis Star.
But when it became clear Rosemead would be playing Paraclete in Saturday's final in nearby Lancaster, I couldn't stop thinking about the weather. I know Rosemead coach Matt Koffler would like his team to have thermos and gloves provided by the school's ASB. You folks making the trek from the San Gabriel Valley to Knight High in Palmdale better bring some hot chocolate (I'll have mine with four marshmallows) because the temperature that night is expected to dip to 32 degrees. It's going to be 24 degrees on Sunday night!
As you know, Rosemead is a Tribune and Star-News school. Last week, Freddy and I agreed that if Rosemead advanced to the final and played at Paraclete we'd both cover it. When I walked into the West Covina office this morning, Freddy laughed and pointed at me but I wasn't having it. Freddy wanted to balk about taking the trip but he conceded. Even now he jokingly said I could handle writing two stories by myself up in Palmdale while he took the day off. For the record, he's agreed to tag along and carpool to Palmdale early in the day. But lets find out what you guys think and have to say about it.

Relax people! We all know its going to be cold.We ought to be worrying about ourselves more than our kids. They are going to be running around not even thinking about the cold till halftime. That's when we need too be thinking about them. The one we need to think about is our kicker. He's the one standing around doing nothing. We have to protect him since he very well may be the "Most Valuable Player" if it comes down to it.As for the low temperatures,I have been checking the weather every night this week.Right now it says it will be a low of 27 on Saturday night but that is just the low. What time does the low hit WE DON"T KNOW!So far @ 9:00 all week it hasn't been any lower than 47.SO WE CAN AND WILL GET THROUGH THIS!!!!!!!So we parents MUST bundle up!GO GET EM BOY!!!!!!!(#15)GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!1
Just don't forget your deadline Saturday night. Can't wait to read all about it.
Miguel ,
I am pro HOT WINGS !
I'll share a brew with you two & my crew before the game . The Wing Spot sounds good... Do they have beers?

The further you have to travel for a game, the more it feels like a state championship. The closer you stay to home, the more it feels like a District championship. Football in December should feel like December. Rosemead is fortunate to have this experience.
That said, the climate should provide Paraclete with a home field advantage. Rosemead needs to remember, though, that everybody on that field is playing under the same conditions. Take your time warming up and then stay warm and loose. Send your AD up there now to see how long the grass is. Be ready to change your cleats if needed.
Miguel, enjoy the cruise up to Palmdale. Gas prices are at a five-year low. Could you imagine making this trip in July?
New York,
You have to admit Palmdale isn't exactly around the corner or a quick 20 minute drive. Anything over an hour is a trip for some people. It's just a shame I'm going to put more miles on my 2-year-old car. High 20's are way too cold for this L.A. boy and if Rosemead was headed to Lompoc or Paso Robles it'd have Fred Robledo's name all over it.
You are acting as if Palmdale is so far and 32 degrees (barely freezing, technically) is sooooo cold. HAHA. Be grateful the divisions are realigned and you don't have to go up to Lompoc or Paso Robles.
Our very own Andrew J. Campa will be on assignment covering Rio Hondo Prep. Be sure to check out a feature I'm doing on a Kares football player that will run in Thursday's paper.
Send Fred to the Lancaster to cover Rosemead(Tribune).
Miguel stay home and cover Rio Hondo Prep(Star-News) Learn something about this school of under 100 students. That has become a small schools football power.
I'll be there bundled up like everyone else. Hey, it beats that trip I made to Anza a few years back when Rio Hondo Prep played Hamilton in the championship. At least there was a Casino on my way down the hill from Anza. What am I supposed to do in Palmdale when it's over?
How come you don't ask me, TM? I thought we were boys!
I used to date a girl who was an engineer and accepted a job in Lancaster. She took me once to this place where they serve the BEST hot wings I have EVER HAD! Better than Wing Stop. The place is called "Coach's" in Lancaster. It's a big place with a small-town feel to it. I guarantee you won't go away wanting more. I'm hungry already. For the record, Fred and I are carpooling, too.
I am carpooling with my crew. Where are we going for dinner ?
Pizza & a brew ?
Fred...???
Fight On
