Riddle me this: Temple City the new No. 2 team?
I don't want to toot my own horn, but for the record I called last night's Temple City win over La Cañada. It was Temple City's first win over La Cañada since 1999 and the Rams now are 4-0 in Rio Hondo League play. I guess Spartans coach Tom Hofman wasn't just being politically correct when he said Temple City was the team to beat in the RHL this season. Does this mean since the Rams defeated the Spartans, 72-55, they are now the Star-News' new No. 2 team? Common sense would say that's correct but I want to go in a different direction on this one ... I kid I kid ;-)
Some comments from a thread posted yesterday (My comments in italics):

Nobody was complaining when we talked about Maranatha football, Flintridge Sacred Heart girls soccer and so on.
Rams09 said: pride, Miguel can't be everywhere all at once. RHL basketball is exciting one this year and is also really the area that reads the pasadena star news. Tonight the rams won 73-56 by 17 points. La Canada tried their best to contain JC45, but he nailed two long ranged jumpers in the first two possessions for the rams. The Rams began pulling away before the end of the half with a nice jumper before the half ended. Players like Zachary Aquino, Leo Tse, Robert Chuang, Andy Scazzilo, and Derek Lau stepped it up when JC45 was being covered. I think Zach Attack had about 24 points? The Spartans got frustrated and the game pulled away. Does anyone know the standings of Monrovia, South Pas, San Marino, and Blair as of tonight? Watch out M-town we're coming this friday.
Enough said.

I did get Mr. Scauzillo's text. We talked about the game two hours before tipoff and told him I gave TC a slight edge. Maybe I do know what I'm talking about, huh?
BlairVikingFan said: 6'5" Blair Forward, Brice Hill scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the victory over Monrovia Wednesday night. However the Wildcats were without their standout forward Chris Bullock. The Wildcats were down by 20 in the fourth but came back to put the game in overtime with some great outside shooting. Deon Geary did not play until midway in the second quarter? Nevertheless he still managed to pump in 16 points, along with 17 from Katorio Walker and 12 points and 11 rebounds from 6'5" 10th grader, Marcus Bagnerise. The Wildcats had one player in double figures Jay Henderson with 24, as he hit everything from everywhere.
Thanks for the recap.

Interesting thoughts here. I appreciate you taking the time to share them with us all. It's people like you that make my day :)
I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you create this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you? Plz reply back as I'm looking to create my own blog and would like to know wheere u got this from. thanks
Time to give South Pas some love, they just knocked off Blair. two big RHL wins (Monrovia, and Blair) and a narrow loss to San Marino. Where is Viking Fan now??
Ya the more i think about it this could be the biggest game of the season for the Rams. The pull out a victory they have offically sweeped the RHL so far, but if they dont it makes things alot more interesting, but i think TC could shock alot of people and go undefeated at the rate they are at so far. Maybe going to this game Miguel? I think it would be awesome if Tc and Arcadia had like a pickup game and Miguel could cover that, so he could get the RHl and the Pacific league in one. =]. Talk to the coaches at Arcadia, Pride, and i will talk to the coaches at TC we will pick a time to do it. =]
oh yeah, just noticed - miguel, i don't know what the score was(forgot it) but san marino beat south pasadena last night! Interesting season in the RHL this year, lots of shockers(considering SouthPas beat Mtown by 1, and SM has been dominated by most teams...LC has lost 2 games...Mtown lost to south pas and Blair).
Pride,
You're absolutely right, maybe miguel needs to put in a few articles about the pacific league- but at the same time he can't be everywhere at once. Don't worry miguel won't be mad if you post up an article on Arcadia haha. I'm pretty sure that the pacific league could play very competitively against the RHL... if TC fans remember we lost to crescenta valley during the lasalle/tc holiday tournament (by around 10 points or something)...but if we played them now, I'm sure it would be very, very close - the rams are dynamic and always changing their game for their opponent and they're always improving-everyone steps up.
The Truth,
Don't worry man, we won't forget M-town (we're all still bitter about the football game). Our players hustle, practice, and have focus/dedication despite their lack of height (JC45 is like 5'10", our tallest is BigRob who's 6'3"...for the most part everyone is under 6).
Don't know how big our 6th man is going to be tomorrow... rallied the troops but most people are scared to go to monrovia. I think i might have to take off my window paints after hearing about incidents of monrovia fans spraying shaving cream on LC fans/parents cars...
to "the truth",
well said.. i am definitely looking forward to tomorrow nights game vs. monrovia. and yes i like that entire 6th man bit.. cause that 6th man is me!
see you at the game.
Is this it for LC? The girls' team likely has a better chance of winning the RHL
too bad we will never know if your beloved pacific league could run the tables with the rio hondo league, because most likely they will not play. You are entitled to your opinion and i respect that though. Just want to remind you that Tc is probably one of the smallest teams around though, our tallest coming in at an amazing 6'3 i believe. The rest of the team is no bigger then maybe 5'10 - 6'0 if that, alot of the players are much smaller then that. Not only are the players on the court good but they defiently got their 6th man backing them up in the stands, pretty much harrassing any team that comes into TC. The support was pretty big last night. One thing though TC cant forget is to not overlook M-Town because they always seem to manage a way to mess up TC's season, shold be a hell of a game. Looking foward to LC vs. TC rematch should be a good one. Good Luck Rams against M-Town, if i dont make it i will be there in spirit. =]
Steve:
You must be over the rainbow.
i have no intentions of taking away the accomplishments of any team in the RHL and i do agree this seems like an incredibly exciting year for that league and im proud to see TC and monrovia taking down the dynasty that is LC in the RHL..however im just dissapointed cuz teams like Arcadia in the amazingly tough pacific league get absolutely no recognition..not one word about their entire season in this paper the last 3 years whatsoever or how their an incredibly undersized team in a league that boasts a large number of gifted athletes and a pasadena front line of 6'10 6'9 6'7 including D-1 scholarships. i think more light needs to be shed on this league and not JUST on PHS but how tough it is compared to other leagues in the area because i will garuntee at least 5 of these pacific league teams would run the table easy in the RHL..people should check out an AHS vs Crescenta Valley game and get a feel for how competitive this league is because u will see a crowd of 500+ easy
