Scrimmages?
FSHA and La Salle at Temple City
La Salle's pitching and team looked sharp, well ahead of where they were last year at this time.
Jessica Ferri had multiple strike outs and the team backed it up well.
Temple City - A little rusty on the field but also made some plays I wish I had a camera on. Has the pieces to be a good team and do well.
Pre-season scrimmages start today. Good luck to all.

I find your anonymity and repetitiveness even creepier.
Alverno plays in a very low CIF division, Div. 6, which is appropriate for their size school, and the teams within their specific league are of the lowest level teams in Div. 6. That combined with a travel ball level pitcher was a very significant contributing fact to their succuss last year, and thus, CIF ranking in Div. 6. Dominent pitcher for CIF division 6, but nowhere near as dominent for a higher CIF division and they are nowhere near as dominent versus higher CIF Division competition. This year they will have success in Div. 6, but they won't have the same level of dominance without a travel ball level pitcher.
Beginning of the year CIF rankings never have any basis in current facts and is primarily a function of the previous years results.

Rarely do teams from our area start out ranked but several usually end up ranked by the end of the year. Rio Hondo teams usually end up going the furthest in CIF and that is usually two games to three games at most. OC teams are usually pretty stacked and the Torrance area has some really strong programs. Crescenta Valley is also usually very strong.
Alverno is a suprise to me ranked number one, I have to imagine that the people in charge of ranking do not know that Michelle Escamilla has moved on (to Mount Sac). They do have Barbara Parker and Amanda Mowrey, who are pretty strong players but to me, if another pitcher doesn't emerge it wont be enough. But ride it while your there.
The area has gotten alot better at moving on players to play in college but there has not been much recognition from OC, South Bay and desert teams, which is kind of a surprise to me since we have been giving them problems for the last few years.

the ONLY reason they are ranked is because they had a great pitcher the last couple of years. Had...But their recruiting this past year didn't get them the kind of players ( pitcher) that they have been getting in the past.. Alverno's reign as a softball top dawg ended when Michelle Escamilla graduated. Welcome to the pack Frankie..
