Discuss anything and everything you want ....

Lets talk a little baseball/softball .. I didn't get much action on the previous "Star-Jibber" thread so I don't wanna hear you yapping when the top 10's are released in the weeks ahead ... Also, here's your chance to nominate your "Athletes of the Week" ... Just an FYI: As you all know the newspaper industry is struggling to survive, and the declining economy isn't helping, either. We got word last week that every SGVN employee has to take a one week furlough (a week off without pay). Some are taking a straight week and others are spreading it over the course of two months. Starting tomorrow, I will take every other Monday off for the next five weeks. That means I can't step foot in the office, write/respond to e-mails or answer my company-issued cell phone. So if you're wondering why there are no posts Monday, you now know why. Keith Lair will work in my place and have stories ready to go for Tuesday's paper. I'll use my Monday's to do some cleaning, occupying the front patio with furniture, figuring out how my fireplace works and hanging out with the Future Nurse, the cutie pie I'm seeing .... Hope you all had a good weekend.

Amazing freakin blog here. I almost cried while reading it!

I really like the colors here on your blog. did you design this yourself or did you outsource it to a professional?

I mean, I could see all this fuss over the guy if he'd led Jersey to the Finals.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Nice website, keep me through searching it, I am greatly interested to know another recommendation of it.

That's funny! After I wrote that I thought the same thing. Maranatha has been good to me and my family and I guess I like to return the love. I usually just read the blogs from a distance to stay informed about what people say but I guess I'm in it now. If I get too biased call me out. I've tried to do some research before posting so I hope it doesn't come to that. I guess I should write the same for a couple of other schools that I respect and am impressed with.

I think you know the answer to that you just don't want to answer it yourself. People don't want to admit nor recognize how fast Maranatha's athletic program is growing. I have witnessed significant change in the past 5 years and Maranatha has become a place where christian kids who want to be challenged academically and athletically are starting to make their #1 choice. Eventually people will have to stop and give credit where it's due. Some people are quicker than others to recognize what's right in front of them.

I know dylan covey is really good but why did he go to Maranatha

Covey info said:

Perfect Game projects Dylan to be the #3 pick in the draft for 2010. It is early but it an honor to thought of so early. He also ranked the #2 player in the country for the 2010 class. Here is what I pulled off Covey's travel program website.

PERFECT GAMES TOP TEN LIST OF JUPITER MOMENTS AT THE WWBA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ten Jupiter Moments
BY ALLAN SIMPSON
Wednesday October 29, 2008

8. Covey Emerges Among Hard-Throwing Elite
In 160 pool-play games played on 12 fields over a four-day period, 166 pitchers were clocked at 90 mph and above. A total of 298 hit 88 or better. Hard throwers were in evidence throughout the tournament, but no pitcher threw harder than Winning Inning (Fla.) righthander Mychal Givens (Tampa), a projected first-rounder in 2009 who was clocked at 96—and yet lost his only start while giving up three walks, four hits and four runs in three innings. Eight more pitchers were clocked at 94, including Covey, who worked all seven innings of San Gabriel Valley’s key 3-2, pool-play win over the talented Royals Scout Team. Not only did Covey allow just one hit, a wind-blown triple, but he struck out 17 and most impressively was 94 from the first inning to the seventh. No pitcher in the entire tournament (with the possible exception of Miller) may have created quite as much buzz. Ranked No. 34 in the 2010 high school class at the outset of the tournament, Covey progressed to a potential first-rounder off his dominant performance.

Ten Jupiter Names That Generated A Buzz
BY DAVID RAWNSLEY

Friday October 31, 2008

1. Dylan Covey, rhp, Marantha HS, Pasadena, Calif. (2010)

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Covey’s first pitch was 94 mph and his last pitch, seven innings later, was 94—and there were lots of nasty fastballs and 78-80 mph hammer curves in between. A very good team (the Kansas City Royals Scout Team) had no chance, absolutely no chance, to hit him when he got in a groove and he gave up just one hit, a wind-blown triple, while striking out 17.

Maranatha is not in the Elks Lodge Tournament. Last I heard they were trying to get in but couldn't. I know they have tried to get in for the past couple of years but for some reason they can't get in. I've asked the coaches but they just say that they tried and couldn't get in this year. I don't have a kid in the program anymore but when I did they played in it. I know their schedule is much tougher than it used to be so maybe that's why, but it seems like they want to be in it? The Elk's Tounament is great for the area teams and it's turned into a great tournament. Maybe next year? Maranatha is playing in an Invitational and their first game is on March 6.

The Dude,

Good post. Anon's are useless to address. They just throw out facts and are a disgrace to their school. Their words are dirt to me.

Only under a regular poster will I have think of looking to read what they have to say.

Is Maranatha in the Elks tournament this year?

The Dude said:

Good luck Arcadia, you have a great team and should be incredibly successful. As I've mentioned already I respect your team and your coach, but I'm starting to question your fans. Anon, 1 or 2, or the same poster, look into the facts before you type your opinion. Arcadia is solid but Maranatha is a top team period. They haven't played anyone? Go back to last year and look at who they played in the post season and during the season. The post season, all ranked teams, during the season, anyone who wanted to play. Yucaipa, 3 guys will eventually be drafted from that team and Maranatha competed. Watch the CIF preseason rankings, I'm sure Maranatha will be ranked high even though they moved up. I have not disrespected anyone, but you my friend need to check yourself before you post.

Who's better than Maranatha? Obviously you think Arcadia, ok you're biased and so am I. However, know that I go to many games beyond Maranatha's and I can recognize talent when I see it. I can recognize good coaching, and I can recognize a parent or player who posts under anonymous without knowing anything beyond their own bubble or reality. Who else is a top ten team? State facts, look at numbers, and what in your opinion constitutes a top team? I think Arcadia is a top team, Monrovia, Saint Francis, CV if they are considered in this area, Temple City is always solid, I'm sure San Marino will be ok, LaCanada will be be decent but Smith will need to carry the team, Alhambra lost a ton of talent but they are well coached and will compete, and with that said Maranatha would compete with all these teams. There is no questioning that. Ask your coach, I'm sure he would tell you. Forgive me if I missed a team or two, I'm sure I did.

Anyway, I'm done with the Anons but I feel like I at least need to respond to the cowardly anons at this point. You should choose a name and enter into a conversation/debate. There are many good teams in this area and like my original post stated Maranatha should be among the top 3.

g3ts0m3 APACHES said:

The bottom line is the Apaches are the best most complete team in the area and no one can compete with them in the regular season with Bryce on the hill.

I am sure Gabrielino is a fine team, but Winter league is still winter league...if you are playing to win and not putting players out their for experience, you are not using that time properly. You, flat out, cannot judge teams by wins and losses in winter league. It is the equal to pre-season in the NFL.

And i wish that game would be played...Arcadia vs Maranatha because i almost garuntee Arcadia would win no matter who Maranatha threw. The reason Maranatha went to CIF is because they played terrible teams. I know and understand Covey is a very good player and the top pitcher in the area but....they do not have one of the best teams..

Anonymous said:

Wat division are they in now? D5? 6?

After going to the championship CIF game last year and loosing in extra innings Maranatha lost one senior player. All other are returning along with some strong JV players moving up. The pitching squad is very deep with Covey #1. Looks like another very successful season for the Minutemen even though they’re moving up a division

Apache Joe said:

The Dude,

I like how you approach things. Good post!

I have not heard much about Maranatha and am just starting to follow baseball a little bit more heavy this year since I'm a big football guy. But from what I know, Arcadia returns about 90% of their team from last year which included sophomores and juniors and should have a very good squad this year.

I have heard of Covey and heard he throws in the mid 90's. Phew that is fast.

The Dude said:

Anon,

As I said in my first post, "no disrespect to Bryce." If you have witnessed Covey pitch then I will respect your opinion. However, know this, Covey has pitched in huge games against very good teams. Not just at the high school level but in national tournaments against the top prospects in the nation and he shut down teams while setting records. I've been in this area for over two decades and he's the best I've seen. I'm not being biased when I say he COULD beat anyones ace. Arcadia would have their hands full with Covey and so would any team anywhere.

Also from my previous posts, it's not just Covey. Maranatha has a solid team across the board. You should watch them play this year and then formulate your opionions. Arcadia is a good team and I believe they will be incredibly successful this year. I hope they win a CIF championship and that Bryce is dominant all year long.

My post was in response to Apache Joe and I was reminding him of Covey. No one who knows baseball would dispute the fact that Covey is the best pitcher around. Maranatha COULD beat anyone in the area with Covey on the hill. Would they win every game, NO, I'm sure Covey will end up a losing a game or two. Could Arcadia beat Maranatha with Covey on the hill, sure, but no doubt, I doubt it.

Again, I wish Arcadia and other area schools the best. There is no disrespect from me, I'm just speaking the truth about the most talented pitcher and ONE of the best teams in the area.

Anonymous said:

The Dude:
What your saying is right that dylan covey is more of a high rated type player than Rutherford. Although saying he is a better pitcher and will beat, "Anyones ace". That is not true one bit. Because i have seen Bryce pitch and he has the talent to shut down any teem on any given night. Maybe dylan would do the same but i think if arcadia threw Rutherford and Maranatha threw Covey, Arcadia would come out on top no doubt. Rutherford is a competitor and has been in big pressure situations and pitched against and shutdown very good teams. Not saying Covey cant but lets be real Arcadia has more talent on the baseball field then Maranatha does....

I anxiously anticipated a call out for our Boys Basketball success this season, the best play in a decade. Or an acknowledgement of the Lincoln Holiday, but this was to no avail. It’s official. Competitive sports in the WSGV is just a few years away from death. I’m cancelling the pitching lessons and getting the boy some voice lessons. My prediction for 2011, TC will be number 1 in the PSN top ten area Choirs and my boy will belt out one hell of a Barry Manilow Mandy. Look out Monrovia, our boys can hit those high notes.

Miguel,

Scott Galletti should actually thank me because I exposed him for what he is... a professional game announcer... He did not have the stomach to be a journalist, especially connected to a blog. Plus, he married too much opinion with seemingly too little time to really go out and see the teams enough to support his strong opinions. Well, that marriage ended in divorce. Plus he couldn't take a freakin' joke! Anyway he is in a better place now.

I think your approach is right. Don't take things too personally.

And yes, TOP 10's with no sense of detail were a big bug with Scott. I also say that the jury is still out on Keith Lair, because he was often the eyes and ears for Scott...but I am definitely open.

Anyhoo I will amend my ...

TOP TEN (11) SOFTBALL PICKS. (By the way, it soo early)

1. LaCanada
-must start better than they finished last year, but they should have a nice tag team of pitchers in Lauren Oleary and Lizzie Miller, along with some returning players with some legitimate year round experience. Kylie Mulligan and Anna Edwards can really get it done hitting and in the field. LaCanada's problems in the past have started outside the fence.
2. Flintridge Sacred Heart
-Best Pitcher in the area is Jessica Ferri, She will probably have more strikeouts in two games than most pitchers will have all season. It is hard to beat a pitcher you cannot score on. Their fielding has let them down in the past.
3. Temple City
-After big losses, coaching and offense will keep them strong, not to mention Veronica Grant and Jessica Loiacano.
4. South Pasadena
-Although they will miss Nicloe Parada deeply, they usually get better as the season goes along, and their defense is largely intact with Shelby Gogreve, Katrina Skogsbergh, and Amanda Castro.
5. Arcadia
- Coach has a year under her belt, and Morgan Barchal is probably the best slapper in the area (for both obp and power) and can take over a game. Maybe a season!?
6. LaSalle
- lost a bunch of seniors, but should have pretty good pitching. They could shoot up the list if Katie Tripoli and Maddie Herlache can put it together as the battery.
7. Maranantha
- great individually talented seniors, they also could shoot up the list. Between the Sommers family and Alex Hillier there will be more hits than in American bandstand. But because of the size of the school it is hard to put them up top.
8. San Marino
-should be young but competitive. Last year they were overrated early. Don't be fooled by the early victories, they have to be able to do it in the RHL.
9. Poly
-could pull some upsets against some bigger schools. The Latta sisters should help maintain some good experience in the line up and give them a shot against anyone.
10.Monrovia
-young pitchers have a year under their belt and they could be dangerous if some of their experienced players step up. We will see if they are still lagging from losing Katie McWhirter and Krissy Mihm two years ago. Hopefully, for them, Shannon Brooks can carryover some of her soccer leadership to the dirt. Brooke Cowell has a chance to establish herself as a leader as well.

11? Alverno
- they relied so heavily on Michelle Escamilla, it is hard to believe that Barbara Parker and Amanda Mowry will be enough to keep them at their high level status , but they could emerge if they get their pitching together.

The order of the list will certainly change with the success of the new pitchers out there.

Keep up the good work Miguel!

PS: I don't mind the football stuff as long as you pay attention to the current sports in season. You have shown some pretty impressive output in terms of stories.

The Dude said:

No disrespect to Bryce but he is not even close to the caliber of Covey from Maranatha. Covey is a top 2 pitcher in the state and top 5 in the country. Maranatha's #2, Popham would be a #1 at many area schools. Before you answer back do some looking and you'll see I'm not blowing smoke.

I'm not a RHL follower but I can't wait to see what happens there with all the trash talking here. And let me say, a scrimmage is a scrimmage. Let the teams run full practices for a month and when records start to count the cream will rise to the top. Most coaches don't even go to all of the scrimmages, they get a report from someone they trust. Just my two cents. Good luck to everyone!

Apache Joe said:

Arcadia is going to end up being either the #1 or #2 team in the area.

Forget about the scrimmage b/c I am sure the coaches are going to do the same they have all winter by playing different kids in different positions... and also, what happened the other 4 times Arcadia played Monrovia over the winter? i believe that i remember hearing they won all of the games except the one that was just recently played. Arcadia didn't play all of their starters b/c their coach wanted to move players around because it was a winterball game. on the other hand, Monrovia started their ace kilbury and their starting lineup. Arcadia is one of the better, if not the best, team in the area this year. They are returning all their starters from last year and should have a very succesful season.

I love talking business. That's what I do. Feel free to vent. That's real life you are talking about.

When times are "good" and we have more money than time, then we need to donate money to community programs. When times are "bad" and we have more time than money on our hands, then we need to donate our time to community programs. Stay positive and help your former co-workers find that silver lining. When people are eventually back to work they may regret not having taken full advantage of their new free-time to spend with their family and friends.

I could not agree with you more as far as prep sports being a positive outlet and of great value. This year was a tremendous rush in particular, seeing kids I 've known since 8th grade and younger..make plays on the field that 2 years ago they had no clue on even where to begin. Very positive, inspiring stuff. I'm still looking at film, just to get a buzz off it.

I work deadcenter in LA Manufacturing. - What I describe is on the table right now, and trust me, fear has replaced optimism on the production floor. Axes are falling in abundance, many on people I've long known, quality people. You of course are correct - wrong venue to vent....and I am leavin it lay right here and now. Miquel's cut back on hours comment - obviously released a couple demons that I will beat severely and return to their dark place of rest.

New York said:

Following what Goldenarm just said:

I encourage everybody to stay optimistic. I know many people are feeling the economic pain, but remember that there is far more to life than money. One great thing about this prep sports blog is that it provides a break from the daily grind. PLUS, attending most of these prep sporting events is FREE.

Secondly, recessions often begin with pain but end with significant wealth creation for those people and organizations who play their cards right. Stay optimistic and be creative. There is a ton of private investment money waiting on the sidelines. It is waiting to see what direction (any) the government decides to go before it enters back into the market.

Keep in mind that the current economic turmoil is global. The US economy is now the "tallest midget in the world." Our global markets are interconnected. We all boomed for six years until the end of 2007 and now we are retracting. China lost twenty million jobs recently.

Keep contributing to your local communities. I know sports programs are not free. Don't let your schools end any sports programs. During tough times, we need positive events and programs.

Things are never as bad as politicians tell us and they are never as good either. We are not yet in a depression, but it will be depressing if we lose our sports programs....

Goldenarm said:

Miquel,

The Preps Editor taking every Monday off sounds like another move that poorly impacts the overall quality and timeliness of the PSN - and in the end - slightly lessens the "on top of the news" tag any paper would want to uphold to the local communities it serves.

As is the norm, it likely means the paper mountain on Lair's desk will rise an additional 12 inches in height, as Miquel's Monday work gets shuttled to a co-worker. This is the "efficiency" with which most of us now work, where the expectation for employees is to know their job, and the job of everyone else around them. If you want to stick around anywhere nowadays, especially as cuts and layoffs lurk, you best be versatile and willing to grind out serious OT at a moments notice. Most of all, at least pretend you can balance an "undoable" amount of work...and prioritize your assignments so your boss takes no crap from his boss due to something you overlooked or lost beneath the 49 other things you handled that day.

I say this realizing it is not your call to not be there, and I know the deal first hand, since my work entails similar requests. The brass has added an additional "week off" much like yours, and cost cutting (and job cutting)is happening all around everyone's feet. Next month the hammer is poised to drop.

Most top notch employees know exactly what they need to do to accomplish their jobs. Thing is, with the economic stroke that is hitting everywhere, employees often are finding a once stable workplace eroding around them. People with change in their pockets are buying only what they need. People with nothing in their pockets can't find work and grow increasingly apathetic, angry and sometimes disillusional. In my view it is beginning to speed up to the point you can feel the rails of the rollercoaster we are on. I personally believe we may be living in a time that 100 years from now, history will paint as chaotic... marred by weak leadership, too little too late, and ineffective government on a monumental scale. In other words, it will worsen before it gets better, and getting "better" will take far longer than most people believe.
Apologies for blowing this one out...

Someone who knows said:

What is so special about a scrimmage on Feb 28th? It is just a scrimmage and nothing counts. the officials HS season begins on Friday, March 6.

At some of those scrimmages, they may bat six outs, play nine innings, or do other things to see what their teams a capable of doing, playing NFHS rules (not summer, Babe Ruth, Pony, or other rules), and the final tune up before playing for real starts on the 6th.

lc returns 7 starters, lost a lot of league games last year in the late innings. their experience from last year will pay off in the late innings this year.

Additionally, they have the best hitter in the area, eric smith, who will also be light out as a closer!

commenting on what is being said about soccer in RHL I think you should go watch the final game this week at Temple city to see if Monrovia/Temple City is better, and for all you know it might be the match that decides the league champs

You are right about one thing.

It would be a Blow-Out except

Coach Blackmore doesn't let

his Teams Run up the score.

and yes i think arcadia is going to be good...its winter ball right now and the coach just wants to see who can perform at this level and who cant, just wait til february 28th just like ive been saying the whole time

catchtheage arcadia is returning 8 starters from last years 2nd place finish and only 3 outs away from winning the league title.arcadia needs to focus on burroughs not cv, even though cv is good they lost their best player lonnie kapula as he transfered to burbank.

Athlete of the Week....
Today reiceve calls from family members,
about Monrovia Ladycats won against South Pasadena Tigers, I think the player of the week should come out from the Monrovia High girls soccer. Showing great imporvement, they deserve at least one of their players to be player of the week.

Alverno should be in the preseason top ten list after their great record last season.

Girls Soccer:
I am disappointed to learn that MHS has backed out of their game with Alverno today. Hope that it can be rescheduled for later this week; also disappointed to find that it does not sound like LCHS will be able to play us the end of this week...any top team out there with schedule room and brave enough to play us this week?
Alverno (9 consecutive time Horizon League Champs and #3 CIF D7) does have a game scheduled for Wed. @ Ontario Christian (#2 CIF D6; should be a great tune up game for CIF playoffs.

After the (2)two losses you were

handed by TC last year, you might

want to focus on CV and leave the

RHL alone. Perhaps you might win

League and not come in 2nd Again!

who me

Good point about the late start for some TC players. GBL can run 25 hrs a day and then sprint an additional 1/4 mile afterward...the kid just does not tire.

I have yet to see them compete as a team. Any observations on individual performance or team strengths? Is Tinsley the starting man at goal?

Posted the day after the game.

Just went to a scrimmage between Monrovia and Arcadia last night. There actually was a crowd!

It was a tight game until the 5th Inning or so with some great defense and pitching.

Richard Kilbury pitched for the Cats and Alan Kim for Arcadia both threw 2 Innings each giving up 1 run.

Garret Simpson pitched the 3rd, 4th and 5th against Park for Arcadia, each giving up 1 run.

Monrovia Finally pulled ahead scoring 3 against the Apaches with Aaron Murphree pitching the 6th, 7th and 8th

Giving up 1 hit and no runs, holding the Apaches at 2 runs scored.

Arcadia tacked on 1 more in the 9th, with the final score 5 to 3 Monrovia.

One footnote, Arcadia Ace Bryce Rutherford did not pitch, but I am sure we will see him on Feb 28th

When they play again in the 1st game of the year.

I'm willing to bet your Coach didn't think

the game was a Joke!

To Elaborate....

Monrovia is 5-2 in League. They lost to TC and to La Canada. Yes, they have a win (2-1) against La Canada, but lost 3-0 in the second game. Monrovia, currently is in second place int eh Rio Hondo League - tied with La Canada and behind TC.

TC - is 5-1-1 in league. Their only loss in League was to La Canada 1-0. They haven't played them a second time - yet. They are one point ahead of La Canada and Monrovia

La Canada is 5-2 as well. They lost to Monrovia, but have a win over TC. Their other loss came to San Marino.

It seems to me that if you are going to rank the Rio Hondo League, you would have to do it based on the current standings - especially when there is head to head. I would put TC, La Canada, then Monrovia in that order.

I know that Monrovia has a great overall record, but just like in getting to CIF, in Division V - that doesn't mean anything - it is all about how you do in league. If the season ended today and CIF were to rank all teams going into the soccer playoffs - Monrovia would be ranked below TC - due to league standings and head to head.

Now - regarding the overrated....if Monrovia is as good as their record states, then they should have had no problem with the Rio Hondo League, but instead they have had numerous problems. They barely beat Blair and San Marino twice - all three games were decided by one point. The dominance of Monrovia came when playing small private schools. I reiterate from a previous post - when Monrovia faced competiton they barely won or tied - El Monte 1-0, Pasadena 2-2 - nothin too stellar.

TC has had a great league record. I didn't think that they would be doing as well as they are. However, they have found a way to gel. I stated in a previous post that TC's non-league record needs to be tossed out. Monrovia doesn't have many, if any, soccer players who play on their football team. TC has has about 6 starters who played football or waterpolo. Usually, that means that the TC soccer gets its football players after one week (TC football losing in the first round), but this year with TC going so far - the soccer players didn't arrive until almost a month into the non-league season. Therefore, it took the rest of the non-league season to get back in shape and get the team to work together - going into league - the only thing that actually matters.

our boy's soccer started off 2-0, i'm not sure if we won against san marino or not though...

Baseball's not in season yet so who can say much? Only person i'd count out is blair.

Athlete of the week: James Chen, dude's the man in the RHL, dropped 28 points vs. SM and didnt play half the game. Now the team's all gotta step it up and finish strong against LC away and Mtown at home to take home the title.

Are you going to be covering track & field later on Miguel?

Enjoy the time off I guess, everyone's getting hit pretty hard. I've picked up the habbit of walking instead of driving bro haha

for baseball1!first off the arcadia game was a joke...arcadia hit all of there players and nearly didnt have the plays that monrovia ran.monrovia pitched there ace kilbury for what?3 innings? while arcadia didnt even pitch there number 1 pitcher rutherford, go watch their game february 28th and see monrovia get embarrassed in front of their home fans

ARCADIA WILL WIN LEAGUE and be well known throughout the san gabriel valley by the end of this year!

You're right on about Maranatha baseball this year. It was a blast watching what they did last year and this year will be just as exciting.

i wonder how alverno will do without michelle escamilla this year? The best pitcher in the area for softball is hands-down Jessica Ferri. good luck to all the players this year!

Baseball Season is finally here and it looks

to be another great year.

With the whole RHL moving up to Division IV

they will be seeing some new teams in CIF.

With the Wildcats coming off of a League

Three-Peat you have to Rank them #1 in the

RHL and definitely in the Top 10 for SGV.

The WildCats return 6 Sophomores from last

year, all with playoff exprience, for their

Jr. Season. The Cats are 5 deep at Pitcher,

with Sr. Richard Kilbury leading the way,

and all well Coached by Brad Blackmoore.

Barring Injury Cats are the Team to beat!

The Dude said:

Maranatha should be a top 3 team at the minimum. They lost a CIF championship game in extra innings and return everyone but one guy. Ask around, Covey can beat anyones #1 and the rest of their staff match up against most area schools #1. They return 3 all CIF players and the coaches were "Coach of the Year" in this area. Sounds like a good core. Unlike some sports a small school can compete with the big boys in baseball. This will be a fun year in area baseball.

The best hitter in the RHL, if not the area, is Eric Smith of La Canada. He hit .625 last year with only 5 strikeouts. I believe I heard he is committed to Stanford.

MHS Soccer Fan said:

Well all I can say it that the Athletic of the Week should be Shannon Brooks since she will be going to Div 1 and she sure shows pride for the sport and the school! Go Wildcat's.

MHS will be taking the RHL both in Baseball and Softball Go MHS.

Clint Fraijo will be the best hitter in the RHL

I think SM will have a solid year this year. They should be competitive like they have been the past couple of years in the RHL. The big thing this year will be seeing how the RHL teams do in the playoffs with the league moving to Division 4.
