BREAKING NEWS: Pasadena hires McFarland as coach

Should of hire Coach Lee when he was there before Mills. He was a great coach that got the kids to work and get the most out of them!!! He had put the track team back on the map from 2001 to 2005, but Mills was hired because he was a PHS alumni and Lee was from Carson High. I think Lee is in Vegas coach a women's football team, does anyone know?

OK let's say Horton should have gotten the job and let's say Brooks and Evans are fake which by all accounts that I hear they are. Mcfarland got the job so let's not penalize the kids for adult’s dealings. Hopefully Horton comes back and helps this year and if he wants move on to a head job somewhere next year. Blame PHS for this, a selection could have been made weeks ago but I think they waited to hold everyone hostage. That being said the students had nothing to do with it so if you are a real BULLDOG you will pull for the Mighty Dogs. Give the guy a chance and Let’s make the best of it.

pasadena made a bad decision in hiring mike im not saying he is a bad coach im just saying pasadena is behind as far as other school programs. not to metion that pasadena had a great coach at pasadena with a staff ready to go in randy hortin. all i here is that mike is not here yet and that we as bulldogs have to wait until he comes, so yes we are on the down unless randy hortin is apart of this program if not we will lose a lot of kids and the ones that stay will not be ready to play and will give mike a hard time. good luck to pasadena bulldogs,it was just a bad decision. hireing a coach with no staff and a very late start, we the bulldogs should have hired randy hortin as head coach, bottom line pasadena made a bad decision.

At our lowest moments they could barely beat us and at our highest moment they escaped through our individualism! The truth is “Muir” is sorry! They can’t even be a strong opponent in “CIF”! Period! He did coach @ arcadia in the late 90's or so under coach dimalante as a jv or freshman coach.

GA, I hope you won't be calling for the TC Head Coaches head either, if in your words, should the RAMS come out slow and drop a couple games.

Maybe show some support and help out rather than criticizing. I know some things haven't gone the way you wanted or envisioned but you have to accept it and be a supporter if you are a true TC Ram Fan

The fact of the matter is that Coach McFarland is NOT an outsider. And local people HAVE heard of him. He has been officially involved with two of PHS's league foes, but has stepped outside of the valley and gained new experience. It sounds like McFarland is an insider that has gained outside perspective. This could be a great combination. I hope he gains the support he needs for the program to be successful.

Stang Fan your right, there's no parking at PHS and the neighbors don't like it when there is a game or any event at that end of the school.

What happened to PCC? did they kick PHS out? after all that was the ORIGINAL PHS, we sholud have a "LIFETIME" lease?? but then again it probably comes down to $$.

Lmao!!! Truer words have never been spoken. I damn near spit my morning tea on the screen! It is quite unfortunate that some people feel like this is a bad hire for the reasons I listed below, but you and I know how true it really is. Thankfully there is another contingent of fans who don't feel that way and they should be excited with this hire.

As far as the new field turf attracting kids "in droves".....not quite sure about that. From what I understand ALL four of the schools are getting new fields, so why would the kids be going out to phs in droves? As a matter of fact, once phs gets their new field you guys might as well say farewell to Friday night home games and say hello to Friday and Saturday afternoon matches because there is no way that neighborhood (and lack of parking) is going to allow the dogs to play under the Friday night lights.

What is the decision with TC?

Why to go to already write off McFarland before he even starts. Let me get this right... certain "fans" won't like him because:

a. He's white
b. He's not from "Dena"
c. No one has heard of him before

Deep sigh ... and you wonder why PUSD is so screwed up?

Ever thought about the possibility that he is EXACTLY what PHS needs? Ever thought about the sideline behavior of the "coaches" and "parents" might have something to do with the demise of the PHS football program?

At this point in time the only direction the PHS program can go is up. Funny that I spoke with a few players and parents and they are excited about it.

Well - we will see. Just let the guy show up to the first day of work before you fire him.

I remember when Maddox was hired at Monrovia last year everyone said "who?" and "he is not a Monrovia guy." McFarland may be the guy PHS needs, whenther some will admit it or not. Time will tell, The players should be jazzed to have a coach who has coaching experience at a college level.

Leave it to The Stang Fan to remove the price tag, burn the wrapper, and go straight to the gooey filling.

The only thing The Stang Fan possibly left off was:

I)McFarland is not in Huck's fave five...or related in any way that is verifiable

J)He knows what the Tussle is, and has signed a waiver to coach via satelitte from an off-site location

K)The Dogs actually "planted" him at Muir years ago, in anticipation of this very day

If there ever was a new direction....this may be it.

I have known Mike since he was nine playing youth sports and ran into him during his HS career at Arcadia and afterward.

He may just be what the Bulldogs need and just hope he does not get hindered and hampered by the clusterflop known as the PUSD and those people in the community that would oppose him for whatever reason.

This is a great hire and you will see a different PHS Football team. PHS has diverse student body yet the FB team is monochromatic. HAts off to the administration for starting the trend to get talent back on the field. Oh and By the way, with the new field turf the kids will be coming out in droves to play no matter who coached.

Trust me when I tell you that there is a large segment of the phs fan base that will not be happy with this hire, regardless of how good it is or appears. As a matter of fact I've already hear from quite a few disapproving fans. Here are some of the complaints:

A. He is not a "Pasadena High guy".

B. He is white. (I know it's sounds ignorant, but it's true)

C. He worked at Muir.

D. The kids have NO idea who he is.

E. He doesn't have the trust of the community that someone like Tip does.

F. He's not Tip.

G. Who else is on his staff?

H. Etc, etc, etc

I have no real knowledge of Coach McFarland, but this seems like a REALLY good hire for the dogs. To continue with the dog theme....let me go ahead and piss on the proverbial fire hydrant:

High praise coming from Coach G. Looks as if the dawgs have got their guy. This search appears from the outside to be well formulated and executed. Cheers to the administration for the purpose and direction.

Guys, I'll have an extensive look in my Friday column at how the whole process came about hiring McFarland, who I was able to reach from St. Joseph, MO.

I'll also have a Q&A later tonight or by the morning. I'm running on fumes here so I'm gonna head home and grab some lunch.

This is a VERY good hire. I was lucky to coach Mike when he was a sophomore at Arcadia high and have him coach our freshmen baseball team at Alhambra. When he was a sophomore, he was very astute and I knew he would be a coach when he became older. I am very proud to say I coached him and has him as part of out staff one year. Mike has very high character and I have no doubt the bulldogs will do well under his guidance.

O-line, backers, RB's. Special ed, academics - along with a geography lesson to boot.
Seems he has not stuck anywhere long, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
In Pasadena, he has fertile ground on which to build success. Crap, even the 4,5, and 6 th graders in Dena won the state in flag fball!
