BREAKING NEWS: Marshall's Jerry DeLaurie resigns

| | Comments (37) |

Marshall boys basketball coach Jerry DeLaurie has resigned, Marshall athletic director Jason Taylor confirmed. "The administration has accepted his resignation and wishes coach DeLaurie well," Taylor said. DeLaurie spent three seasons at Marshall, leading the Eagles to a 57-25 record and a trip to the semifinals and quarterfinals appearences in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs. DeLaurie cited a tenous schedule for his resignation. His duties as physical education teacher has increased at David Starr Middle School in the Burbank Unified School District. "It's tough to get over (to Marshall)," DeLaurie said. "The first year was tough but I had a lot of seniors coming back and I hung in there for one more year, for them." DeLaurie said there were some minor issues in his short tenure at Marshall "but I got over them," he said. "Not having a gym, that's pretty tough," DeLaurie said. "But the main reason is I teach in Burbank. It just wasn't fair for the kids to wait until I arrived." There is an opening at Burroughs High and DeLaurie confirmed he will inquire about that position. In his first season at Marshall, DeLaurie was the athletic director at AGBU in Canoga Park, and in that capacity it was easier for him to leave for games at Marshall. The following year, DeLaurie left AGBU to teach in Burbank. "Last year was tough and this last season was even tougher," DeLaurie said. Marshall athletic director Jason Taylor said the school will begin looking for DeLaurie's replacement. "Ideally we would like to hire a credentialed teacher but we will be considering walk-on applicants as well," Taylor said. "We're seeking to select a candidate that has experience managing a multiple-level basketball program. "Are we going to rush through the interview process? No. But at the same time our goal is to have the new coach in place before the school year ends, which is approximately 6-8 weeks from now."

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!

Most of whatever you say happens to be supprisingly accurate and it makes me ponder why I had not looked at this in this light before. But there is one particular issue I am not necessarily too cozy with so while I attempt to reconcile that with the core idea of your point, allow me see what the rest of your readers have to point out.Well done.

The post of content is very interesting and exciting. I learned a lot from here. The content from simple to complex, so all of you can come in.

I've been on and off of it several times, if you're talking about the same one I'm talking about. It really does work, if you stick to everything on it. You can realistically expect to lose 5 lbs or so a week. It's difficult to stay with, though, and you spend the whole time looking forward to Thursday. But it does get you used to eating a smaller amount of food, so the four days that you are on normal food, the amount of food that you would eat before the diet seems huge. It is true that it is easy to gain it back after the diet. It doesn't change your long term habits, but when you see the results, it gets a lot easier to maintain.

Great wordpress blog here.. It's hard to find quality writing like yours these days. I really appreciate people like you! take care and see you soon

Amazing freakin blog here. I almost cried while reading it!

thanks for the tips!

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.

! This information is really good and I will say will always be helpful if we try it risk free!! So if you can back it up , That will really help us all. And this might bring some good repute to you. The diet of human beings prior to the arrival of agriculture, technology and civilization is known as the Paleolithic Diet ... This Stone Age diet, in short, consisted of mainly lean red meat and vegetables. In this type of diet animal meat is consumed in large quantities and 45 to 65% of the energy needed by the body is derived from it. Over and over again, life expectancy studies related to diet, including by the World Health Organization (WHO), have concluded that Americans and Europeans would do better to eat more like third world peoples as the options provided by their additional wealth have most often lead to poor nutritional choices. This is the same basis for the USDA based their popular food pyramid in 1992 ... Researchers at Harvard have only suggested perhaps tweaking the food pyramid by replacing some dairy products and read meat with more fruits, vegetables, and fish while also emphasizing the importance of improving the ratio of “good” to “bad” cholesterol, Plus, exercise not only makes weight loss much easier, but also lowers blood glucose levels, decreases blood pressure, improved circulation, and increases one’s metabolism. Good regular sleep patterns are also just as important. Diets based on USDA recommendations include DASH, American Diabetic Assoc, Weight Watchers, and Jenny Craig.. When children understand how important “real food” is and where the natural ingredients of our food come from, they will increase the general population’s appreciation for preserving our natural environment and limiting toxins and polluting processes in our world. We may even trend back to the time when people stepped outside their homes to interact with family and neighbors in home and community gardens and block-party barbeques... Does anybody even remember how nice those days were?

This stuff is so funny Supporter aka coach Delaurie, Parent aka Mrs. Delaurie and of course TTurp as Great News you guys crack me up. However I will say Marshall basketball has again become insignificant in the city and area under coach Delaurie.

T Turp said:

Parent or Support guess not huh? LOL

It is interesting supporter or parent you did not refute anything Been There stated. Was Marshall the 2nd best team in the city when Delaurie took over? I'll answer, yes. To piggyback on what you said about Gorgan, yes he was partial to Strings no doubt out it. On the other hand how many kids received scholarship while playing for Delaurie? Let me help you out, none. How many under Gorgan? I can count 5 or 6. Yes kids came to Marshall to play for Gorgan and now that he is gone so are the kids that came to play for him. Interesting Delaurie leaves the same time Grogans players do so apparently no player respects him enough to come play for him. Did Marshall play good teams and have respect around the area under Gorgan, yes. Does Marshall now play less talented teams and are considered a joke program again, yes. Also you state Gorgan did not care about the kids, wow. I am in contact with many of the kids he coached and to a man they all still have good continued contact with him. As a matter of fact he just got one of his ex players that he has not coached in years a scholarship.

So supporter or parent is this program better today or a few years ago. I’ll answer that too, a few years ago. I spoke to one of the player from about 5 or 6 years ago and he was so disappointed Marshall plays the schedule they do because of how hard they worked playing good teams to get respect. Marshall came in 3rd behind Sierra Canyon who they blew out last year and CAMS a team they beat 90, 90 four years ago. So much for player development.

I guess you were referring to me when you made the statement about trying to tear this guy down for 3 years, funny. By the way what does Blair have to do with Marshall? Also let's not talk about Blair because that caught in the gym allegation will come up and I know you don't want that. Also if your son was coached by Delaurie he never played with Strings nor was he coached by Grogan so how would you know?

As a Marshall parent the last three years in the basketball program I am very happy coach DeLaurie coach my son. There has been drama but it was brought on by a certain parent who is no longer wanted in the Marshall basketball program. As I read these posts I can't believe you bring up Grogan, he didn't care about anybody except Derrick Strings.Grogan was always trying to recruit kids into Marshall.Delaurie cared about our boys and developed the talent that was given to him.Grogan didn't even know half of the kids names that DeLaurie has coach these last 3 years.Delaurie had alot kids on the varsity, played almost everybody and the kids played very hard for him.He had good assistants and the kids really ejoyed the coaches kindness and caring style. Brandon Bonar, Alef Mehertu, would have never played for Coach Grogan.
What the parents like the most about Coach DeLaurie is that his Staff really cared about the kids and they did not recruit kids like Grogan always did. The team next year will need to work hard just like the team did this year. Oh by the way didn't DeLaurie win like 2 or 3 league championships in a row at Blair as The Girls coach. Thanks "Great news" for trying to tear down Coach DeLaurie, you have tried for three years and it hasn't work,Thank God he won't have to put up with you anymore.

Supporter you are right in the sense that a 57-25 is a fairly good record. However when Delaurie took over he inherited the 2nd best team in the city. Marshall beat Muir the previous year for the first time in school history and beat every other school in the area with the exception of PHS and La Canada; they did not play those schools. Marshall was coming off a season where they were 3a quarter finalist losing to Harvard Westlake by 8. They had the best player in Pasadena coming back the next year in Derrick Strings with a strong supporting cast. CIF moved Marshall and Maranatha down to 5a which should have assured one of them a championship, it did not happen. With the teams in 5a Marshall should always get to the quarters or semi, thats no great shakes. It is interesting that Gorgan was able to get players and play and beat good teams with no gym. As Great News stated Delaurie played with Gorgan's guys and now they are all gone so he leaves. "Exposed" seems to be accurate, if you look at Delaurie record against good teams you'll find he wins about 2 out of 10 games. His teams kill inferior opponents but can't seem to beat like talent. In 2 years Marshall played Pac Hills and Maranatha 9 times. Know what their record was? 1 and 8. Bottom line is under Gorgan Marshall competed on a pretty high level and played all comers. Under Delaurie Marshall plays as soft a schedule as can be. Marshall came in 3rd place in 2008, the 2 best teams were moved out of that league and Marshall still came in 3rd place behind teams they beat by 40 the year before, exposed. Now that Marshall is in a division where there is no chance for a championship the coach leaves. Delaurie came in with the 2nd best team in the city and probably the 3rd best in the area with Gorgan's guys to a team that is probably the worst team in the city and very irrelevant. Supporter if you think this guy did a good job I suggest you look closer.

Supporter said:

How is a 57-25 record "exposed"? CIF Semifinals (losing by 3), CIF Quarter Finals (losing by 1) and losing in the first round of CIF to the eventual champion (Chaminade by 4). Only one team can win a championship every year so by any other standard DeLaurie's three years at Marshall were a major success. All of this by a walk on coach. Anyone who thinks more could have been done at Marshall in those 3 years is borderline delusional.

This is great news for the program at Marshall, delaurie is a buster. All of the players that remained after Gorgan left are now gone and no one has come to play for delaurie. The writing is on the wall, not much talent, Marshall now is in a good division and he can't coach that well, so you do the math. Can you say exposed? If he had talent Burbank would not be that far. Burbank is what 15-20 minutes away? I was told mid season he would not be back and the drive from Burbank had nothing to do with it. This comes as no surprise. Hopefully now Marshall can select a new coach that players want to play for and respect. Maybe now they will again have high expectations for this program, start developing their talent and stop playing so many cupcakes and go back to playing comp like they did before delaurie got there. Good luck with your search.
