Soccerfan: I agree. It is disconcerting that some of the standout players chosen for first team CIF this year were passed over and not even included as part of the Star-News SECOND team.
A lot of politics. The teams that get the most press also get the most visits from the newspaper's reporters.

Soccerfan said:

It is all about hype. especially on the girls side. there are girls on this list that spent most of the time on the bench and other girls that were awarded first team CIF and not even on the list. you would think cif-ss honors would be reflective of the all area team but i guess not.

I agree to some extent with Midsmom. Do certain high school coaches "hype" players to the Star-News while other coaches don't bother to? There are a few outstanding players that could have been named to the second team but were left off.
With all the talent out there, it must be a tough call, though.
Congrats to all the girls.

Midsmom said:

I don't think you quite got it right with player of the year - Fleming is a very good player but there are others with less hype who accomplish more. Anyway, congratulations to all these girls who have worked hard and made good choices and are all bound to accomplish a lot.

To HS Fan: you need to be best player on your own team before you can be player of the year. Vania is best player at AHS.

hsfan said:

tangorra from arcadia deserved player of the year...she carried that team on year back game after game.

Way to go Shannon, Second team is better than no team! Go Monrovia High School.

Soccer Mom, yes, I had Fleming on the first-team All-Area last year, but she was already on her way here to UNM before I got hired on.

I believe I saw FSHA play about 10 times last season and she was an easy player to find on the field at all times.

By the way, the soccer crowds here at UNM are unbelievable for both men and women.

Congratulations to all of the girls that worked so hard this year!

Was hoping to see more than only two girls from the Division III Prep League, but overall, well done.

Soccer Mom said:

Galetti didn't you discover Fleming? You had her on your first team all area last year didn't you? Who knew you had an eye for soccer talent. Did you recommend her to UNM?

SGaletti said:

Looking forward to seeing Sinead Fleming out here.

Mr CIF said:

Nice job Miguel and Keith, you did pretty well, All the PLAYERS selected were worthy of the honors. I could quibble with the exclusion of Kimmie Sommers and the Williams kid from Pasadena but what would be the point. With all those players and the Coach of the Year coming back it looks like La Canada will be the team to beat.

rclancy said:

Congratulations to all the girls. Great job.

A particular congratulations to Paige Dyrek from Mayfield. Thanks for working so hard and representing Mayfield so well.

It's great to see Alverno represented so well. Way to go girls - it was your year!
