Softball: Temple City makes its move, beats LC, 2-1

| | Comments (17) |

Don't have all the details but I know La Canada had a perfect game going through the sixth until the Rams crashed the party, winning, 2-1, to blemish the Spartans' record. Mayfield beat Pasadena Poly, 4-3, and Rio Hondo Prep beat Flintridge Prep, 3-2, courtesy of Mr. Clancy. Mario Aguirre will give us the breakdown on the TC-LC softball game in tomorrow's paper, but why wait until then? If you were there, chime in. All other updates/breakdowns are welcomed, too.

What about other area scores yesterday? We know FSHA 2-0, Mayfield 3-2. But no one else?

What about:

TC
La Salle
Monrovia
Manatha
Arcadia
etc.

Can't the PSN at least get the Top 10 for goodness sake!

LC-SM is today and LC should win easily.

come on no excuses they were well played games that didnt start until the afternoon. you have to give it to sp even though they have lost a few they have wins vs tc maranantha la salle. i would think they should find their way back in the top ten

Next time La Salle should think twice about scheduling a double header the day after the prom!

Yes, she is a freshman, but the hope is she finishes High School in three more years... :-)

I just heard the LC pitcher was a Freshman, is that correct? If so, you guys will be very good for the next four years. She was very impressive.

La Canada scored in the 4th on a throwing error, passed ball and Amanda Ulf's rbi single. They had five hits all singles and usually sent 4 batters to the plate each inning.

Lauren Cox pitched excellent taking TC down in order for 5 innings, finishing with 9 K's, no walks and 5 hits.

Lenae Sachez got the TC's first hit a clean double to center with 2 out in the 6th. Ashley Perez started the 7th with a well placed single over first base. Veronica Grant followed with a hard ground ball single to left. Jessica Kosharek drove in the equalizer with a single to center and Jessica Loiacano flew a high fly ball over a close outfield, to the right field fence for the game winner.

Kelsey Hardwick had 2 k's, 1 walk and enticed a ton of ground balls for a strong defense to hold La Canada to five hits through 7 innings until TC hitters found a way.

The RHP-Flitridge game was a pitching duel once the first inning ended. Both teams scored twice in their first at bats and stayed tied until the top of the seventh when the home team Flitridge made two costly errors that allowed Rio to score and stay ahead for good.

Both hurlers kept command of their pitches throughout. Rio's Parker although not overwhelming got the ground-ball outs when needed. Flintridge's Kay was accurate but seemed a bit nervous in the final inning. However, these two girls are fun to watch!

Let's hope the Prep Leagues three-way tie breaker rule is different for softball than it is for football!!!!

I know in the Rio Hondo / Flintridge Prep game that Rio Hondo scored two in the first and then Flintridge Prep came back with 2 in the bottom of the first on a 2-run HR by Lydia Kay. I think Rio scored their third run in the 7th.

Correction - Tercero had 10k's

This is the first time Mayfield has swept Poly in a season in over 30 years and maybe ever.

The Mayfield @ Poly game was a wild one.

Poly scored in the bottom of the 6th on a double by Ally Latta and then two passed balls.

In the Top of the 7th Kim Combs lead off for Mayfield and took a 3 -2 count to ball 4. Kaitlin Fitzpatrick then came up and banged a single into center. Anneliese Luck then singled driving in Combs and Fitzpatrick advanced to 3b on the throw with Luck going to 2b. Stephanie Tercero was then called for an illegal pitch scoring Fitzpatrick and advancing Luck to 3b. Katie Clancy then singled scoring Luck. Jackie Najera then singled and was later driven in by Krupa Patel.

In the bottom of the 7th Lili Liu lead off with a walk and then scored on a single by Julia Tsai and an error by Mayfield. Julia Tsai then scored on an error by Mayfield, but Mayfield finally got the third out on a grounder to SS.

Katie Clancy got the win with 14k's. Stephanie Tercero took the loss with 9 k's.
