Bishop Amat shows its support for La Salle's Agajanian

| | Comments (23) |

Bishop Amat coach Andy Nieto and the rest of his team showed its support for La Salle baseball coach Harry Agajanian who was suspended Monday for what's left of the the regular-season in what La Salle officials are calling a violation of school policy. Without going into all the details, school officials can confirm that Agajanian's suspension stems from a players refusal not to play in a game against Cantwell Sacred Heart. Agajanian sent that player to the bus after his refusal to play, and words were later exchanged. School officials met, and felt a suspension was warranted. The Lancers played Bishop Amat yesterday and the coaches taped Agajanian's number on their hats. It was a gesture that surely meant a lot for Agajanian. How classy of your opponent to show support. It shows how well-liked Agajanian is among his colleagues. Agajanian had a meeting today with the principal to discuss his future with the baseball program. We'll have more as it becomes available.

I can see both sides of this story, but they are both definitely in the wrong. From what I hear, the kid has become a problem, he is mad that he didnt get some award. A lot of the players are not too happy with him, in fact one player on the team is getting accused of some pretty outlandish things by the pitcher in question. I also have heard that the coach said some pretty questionable things to his players. This thing is just a mess, too bad it turned out this way. Agajanian is a coach and from everything I have heard the kid is a pretty good pitcher. Its a shame.

there were a great amount of errors and that kid does not need to prove anything, he held amat at their own field 2-1 with taking a comebacker off the ankle

The baseball gods have a way of evening the score. The so called victim got shelled by Amat on Friday.

its sad how everyone thinks they "know" what happened or are bullying this kid because they are showing their loyalty to agaganian, who has spun the story to make him the victim, this kid had an exceptional season, until he decided that he would rather have his teammates play that haven't played a lot this season instead of him, when they were playing a team whose only victory was Muir, he may have been selfish with his question, but any mediococre coach would know to take this up with the player after the game not before. the reason he didnt WANT TO PITCH not play was because the coach ran him down for asking a question, and then turned the whole team against him, which he has supported and been a big part of the whole time. if you want an unbiased, truthful blog check out the fred robledos blog on this, whose bloggers actually have the actual knowledge of the full story, ironic

Well hsbaseballfan, if you can’t believe that he’s still on the team, better believe it now. Guess who played again today at their last game of the season against Amat???? I’m sure there are bad feelings among the players after what happened … they don’t deserve this. It would be interesting to know what kind of talk they got today from the coaches, or are the coaches now afraid to talk the players about it and hope everyone will forget about it next season. Teaching young men about character building and teamwork took on a different turn today. So sad.

Inmates Rule?
Its not hard to figure out the player's name. LS doesn't have that many senior starting pitchers that bail out on their teams. I can tell you it wasn't the senior starter that ended up pitching at Cantwell. That guy pitched Tuesday against Amat (and did as good as he could). It's the other senior that's the team killer. I still can't believe he's on the team.

The LS quarterback transfering to a public school has no relevancy to this topic. He is going to be a top QB recruit, so it was in his best interest that he transfer from LS to school closer to where his family works (San Clemente), and where the competition will be much better for him. So I don' agree with that arguement. And I'm sure that Blair or any other public or private school has its issues, just so happens that this was made public and thrown up on the blog.

Maybe that's why La Salle is one of the few private schools where kids actually transfer out of to public schools (see last year's quarterback). I think that unless the coach did something that was borderline illegal, that the AD should step down immediately. Letting the kids rule is wrong and will only lead to more problems. If coaches don't have some sort of control when a player refuses to play, the school should shut down the program. I think the kid's name should become public also since he caused someone his job. Word's going to spread anyway so why not in the proper channels? This is sad to say the least. Heck, Blair seems to have fewer problems than La Salle.

I know coach Agajanian and have watched him coach many times. He is fair, firm, friendly and he has a high regard for every student on the team. He knows enough about the game of baseball to understand that the coach must be in charge of the team. Without that constant the deteriorating morale would make winning impossible and character building a sham. I just hope that my grandkids are lucky enough to have coaches with the talent and real maturity that coach Agajanian has continued to demonstrate. Just maybe spoiled brats and hovering parents don't deserve his brand of devotion.

It's not a private school only problem...I've seen RHL kids talk back to there coach. I know eariler this year in an article that a TC kid and a coach got into it, I know that Mon. is missing one of their players who I heard quit for some reason. The issue is the parents. They should have never called the school, it sounds like the kid just got chewed out for refusal to play, ANY coach would take issue to that. It's not like the kid got hit or smacked around by the coach.

If this kid finally decides to grow up he will realize that his parents can't bail him out of everything and that in life he might not get the promotion he wants or something and what his he going to do tell his boss he refuses to work. I don't think so.

Kids today have a false sense of entitlement. They are given everything they want and the parents of these kids don't allow them to fail. When I grew up I was taught you learned more form your losses or failures then you did from your wins and successes. This is not a concept that kids understand today. And there parents are not helping there children by allowing them to get away with throwing a temper tantrum because they didn't get an award. GROW UP AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN!!!

Sounds like the inmates are running the asylum over at LaSalle.

i totally agree with you baseball fan, except for the reason he is stuck up is cause he goes to private school. having a private school education has nothing to do with being stuck up and immature. that just has to do with how you are raised.

Baseball Fan said:

This story makes me sick to my stomach. The little immature kid did't win the award he wanted? Well too bad. Thats life. In life, things aren't always going to go your way. Man up and deal with it. Agajanian is a great coach and an even better man. He coached me back in the day. This would never happen at a public school. Because the kids at public schools aren't stuck up and immature. The moral of the story is the kid needs to grow a pair and man up. His parents should be ashamed of themselves for even complaining. Pathetic.

I was at the game. The player did not want to pitch because he wasn't winning the award he wanted. He was clearly pouting in the dugout so Agajanian sent him to the bus. Its that simple.

#32- thought that was the number of runs BA was planning to drop on LS

goteamgo said:

It could be the player was not suspended because he quit rather than go in the game? Or things got heated in the discussion and he said "I quit?" That could be why no player suspensions are being noted.

Only guessing.

tcchamps said:

Sounds like pay to play, or not play.

Angel Bec said:

Since when do players "pick" what teams and games they want to play.

Did the player get suspended?

Thats a class act gesture by Amat! But could they spot LS some runs too?!
