Football: Temple City dropped SG, not La Salle. My bad.
Note: Writing in today's paper that Temple City dropped La Salle from its schedule was a typo on my part. I must have had La Salle on my mind yesterday (baseball, calling coach Peterson, etc.) and it just slipped. Temple City dropped San Gabriel, not La Salle. Thanks to those who pointed it out to me and left comments and messages on my inbox and voicemail. On another note, I had no idea how much I missed covering high school football. It surprised the heck out of me. With baseball/softball playoffs underway (along with swimming, tennis and track) it's almost impossible to write 2-3 stories a day plus cover the blog AND be on top of spring ball. Bare with me a little and I'll bring you guys some more football news as I get to talking with more coaches. I put in a call to Monrovia, La Salle, Muir and Pasadena. The Arcadia-TC story hopefully got the ball rolling

They're calling it the "Brawl for The Mall."
It doesn't exactly scream crosstown rivalry per se, but for now it'll suffice.
Temple City High School dropped San Gabriel from its football schedule this season and will instead play Arcadia in Week 3.
This series is not new, though its seemingly long absence sure makes it feel that way.
"I've been here 14 years now, so when I was here that was always a big rivalry game," Apaches coach Jon Dimalante said. "It took a little rest because it got out of hand."
Dimalante will stick to his true colors as an Apache but still will be somewhat at a crossroads being that he lives in Temple City.
"It'll be exciting for both programs," he said. "When we're not playing against them I wish them success."
On one end of the field will be Dimalante, a veteran in the coaching ranks, well-known and highly respected by his colleagues.
On the other side of the field will be Rams coach Anthony White, who is in his first job as a head coach.
CLICK ON THREAD TO CONTINUE READING
"I haven't met coach White yet but I'm sure he's a good guy," Dimalante said.
White moved swiftly to fill the coaching vacancies with reputable coaches and got right to work by putting together a rigorous offseason workout program.
"I haven't followed it too closely to tell you the truth," Dimalante admitted. "But everything I've heard about him is positive. I'm sure he's going to be fired up for his first head coaching job, and I wish him well."
Not every team is practicing at full strength. Many players are involved with track and baseball.
For the time being, the Apaches during the offseason are concentrating on strengthening their rush production since senior standout Todd Golper will play Saturdays for UCLA.
Arcadia very well could see two talented running backs share duties.
Sophomore David Maldonado, who started a few games last year and showed glimpses of elusive speed, will be joined by freshman Rodney Arnett in the backfield.
"They're both very quick," Dimalante said. "We've always had great tailbacks and when you don't have it you can really feel that."
When Golper's injury sidelined him for the last part of the season, the Apaches relied heavily on the arm of junior quarterback Garret Tuck. He's Arcadia's No. 2 pitcher.
Without Golper in the backfield, the Apaches became a one-dimensional team and were exposed on the pass rush.
"Hopefully, David and Rodney will get bigger and stronger and continue to make strides in the offseason and in the weight room so they can be ready to help us," Dimalante said.
Arcadia so far is scheduled to play in the Marina passing tournament on July 18 in Orange County, though more are expected to be scheduled once Tuck's baseball season ends.
"We're real excited about him," Dimalante said. "We want him to focus on baseball. He's doing such a nice job over there.
"We're excited to see Tuck's confidence and development over the summer; we're looking for big things from him this year."
New coach at Keppel
Bobby Madrid has taken over a struggling Aztecs program that has not won in nearly four years.
Madrid, also the school's softball coach, becomes the school's fourth coach since Keppel's winless streak began.
"(Madrid) is a Keppel alumni, knows how to win and he's worked with all the freshman, which I think is great for transition," Keppel athletic director Ismael Perez said.

A CV cover letteris submitted so that you have the opportunity to capture the hiring manager's attention as it provides more specific details on your skills and experiences that are relevant to the position you are applying for. For a well-written letter, follow these simple steps when writing a cover letter.
Start your CV with a brief profile about yourself and also state what types of jobs you are targeting and justify why you think your skills are useful for those kinds of jobs.

Kansas City is the number one football team this year. Football is all about defense, and we are the best in the league.
I love the expression. Everyone needs to express there own opinion and feel free to hear others. Keep it up :)
Good luck getting people behind this one. Though you make some VERY fascinating points, youre going to have to do more than bring up a few things that may be different than what weve already heard. What are trying to say here? What do you want us to think? It seems like you cant really get behind a unique thought. Anyway, thats just my opinion.
I agree with your thoughts here and I really love your blog! I've bookmarked it so that I can come back & read more in the future.
Dev was the star girl on Far East Movement's Like a G6 and now she really records her own songs. Her first single from her first album (that has yet to get a name) also features the producers The Cataracs, who also were on Like a G6. This track, called Bass Down Low, sounds like her other releases, such as Booty Bounce and Fireball! I wish Dev good luck in her singing career!

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.
It does seem that everybody is into this kind of stuff lately. Don’t really understand it though, but thanks for trying to explain it. Appreciate you shedding light into this matter. Keep it up
very useful. thanks for share
I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
Cool, have not been able to find the information I was looking for before now, thanks to the blog owners for this master piece work…

Introduce Yourself Positively. The cover letter generally may reflect the kind of person you truly are. It is an introduction between you and the employer. With this in mind, it is important that the letter should make a good impression.
Do not include any failures - be positive and don't say why you left jobs or that your marriage broke down etc. Do not typewrite it as you will look as though you live in the dark ages. Always use a computer.
I think all of the fans may like it too.
Washington Redskins jerseys is very beautiful.

Sorry for the huge review, but I'm really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it's the right choice for you.

Money Talks,
I happen to come across this page by accident. In regards to the '94 (class of '95) Muir & Arcadia teams, allow me to weigh in. Saeed Abdul Malik was one of the best guys I ever played against and we were both members of the West Team for the 1995 Hall of Fame Game. He was a hard worker, great athlete, had D1/NFL size, and a friend that I still deeply respect. No offense to Brad Bedell or Cam Lewark, but having played against all 3, Saeed was hands down the best. It's a mute point now since Brad did go on to last several years in the NFL, and last time I saw him, was doing well. Also, Jeff Kuhlberg was another friend of mine that the size, speed and talent, but seemingly disappeared off of the earth.
The 6-9 290 lb player that you were referring to in the Arcadia vs. Muir game was Israel "Pepe" Charles, who was actually about 320 or so. He's always been a giant, and when we were in Middle School, was probably about 6-6 285. That night, hearing Arcadia fans/personnel saying that this guy had just gotten out of jail, was a bit exaggerated , but also very funny to hear. Not that it matters now either, but there was 1 Muir booster that I literally saw pay Pepe after that game for his perforamnce.
One point that needs to be corrected is that the c/o 95 Muir team was I believe the first, and possibly only Muir team to have not a single player get a D1 or any football scholarship for the following year. I think this was largely in part due to the the coaching staff's ingorance, unprofessionalism and "street" mentality. Despite that, this team beat 3 undefeated teams in 3 consecutive weeks: CIF Div II #1 ranked Paramount, CV and Arcadia. Since, Muir was the league champions and since their closest margin of victory was 10 points, it would only be logical that they should have the most all league selections, as well as possibly a lineman of the year, offensive MVP, or defensive MVP. That was not the case as PHS and Arcadia (the second and third place teams) both had more All Leaguers, the offensive MVP going to McAllister (agree), Defensive Player of the Year going to Cam Lewark (disagree- 3rd place team that got shutout 20-0 by PHS and gave up 27 unanswered points to Muir) and Lineman of the Year going to Brad Bedell (I know the guy personally, but there was no way he should have been lineman of the year). Muir's senior team had forgotten talent like Jeremy Bonwell, Saul Magana, Ryan Duncan, Dustin Johnson, Damien Burton, Charles Townsend, Zaire Calvin, Cecil Hayes, Brian Moore, Charles Townsend, Damon Jackson and others.
Great post!

Money Talks,
funky grammar and football english is acceptable here.
no worries.
To: I Know
remember RB is a graduate of San Gabriel High School
He is a stand up guy in my book...and any area school would make a smart move putting him on the sideline, especially as a defensive specialist.
He knows how to utilize linebackers as well as ANYBODY around
Sorry about my horrible english and sentence structure on this blog. I just type away and i don't re-read what I write on blogs. i hope you all understand. Thanks!
The Monk,
Yeah, that La Salle team in 1995 was more talented and than the 2006 team that made that great run to the finals. Ralph Lazcano was a beast and was a 4 yr starter in college. Travis Ingrao at LB was a stud. He started at LB for the west in the all star game at citrus. Anthony Tavera lead the line on O and D, along with Ruben Vasquez.
This La Salle was could have compete with the areas best. They beat a great Catherdal by 2 points on a goalline tackle. Coach Leu actually asked Coach Redell at St. Francis for game for the 1995 season, and he said no. They could have beaten SF that year for sure.
The McCullough bros dad was a track star at San jose state.
Ok, 1995 was the peak for football in the SGV.
NY and MT,
I can remember being at that game when I was pretty young. Garcia got hurt the week before I think. That La Salle team was one of if not the best team to go through La Salle. They Beat everybody, except that darn Valley Christian team. They also had Ralph Lazcano on that team who went and played at Cal Lutheran. He had a separated shoulder that hole season. I got to play for Leu Stueck, great guy, crazy, but great. I got some good stories with him. I remember watching that Paraclete game and LS was winning by like 20 or something crazy, and they ended up losing. Heartbreaker.
Stang Fan,
Are all of those McCullough brothers products of Muir? Man I wonder who their parents are, those are some really athletic guys.
I Know
I had heard that too, but thought it was Area 51, Loch Ness Monster kinda material
Sounds like a pretty tight friendship
with loyalty comes loyalty
Graham was always a stud, even as a 12 year-old playing baseball. He hit a line drive across the street at Eisenhower park during the tournament of champions. Graham's team was representing West Altadena Little League. He also threw a fastball on par with Jason Cly, less the accuracy.
Sad story about how many high schools he attended. I remember Graham and Lawrence Phillips sharing the front page of the Star News during the summer of 95. The headline: "They're Eligible". Graham was transferring to Muir from Charter Oak and Phillips got cleared for the Big Red. I think Graham rushed for well over 2000 for Charter Oak as a junior.
NY,
Regarding mikey graham, I remember watching him is soph year when he played for Mater Dei. Mater Dei went to St. Francis to play a non league game. Mikey had to sit out the 1st half for various reasons, but he played the 2nd half. He tore up SF for 150 yards and 4 TDs in the 2nd half. he was a great back. I believe he ended going to 5 different highschools.....edison, mater dei, charter oak, muir and somewhere else....
Its tough to say Garcia was not tough enough. I personally watched him play a couple games that year. Plus Coach Stueck was still there. I feel like he demanded toughness. Maybe those boys from the dessert were just too much for the rest of the team to handle.
Ny,
My buddy who played on that 95 La Salle team blames Garcia for the lost till this day. He tweaked his ankle during the game and did not return, so they couldnt run the back and the Qb throw INTs. He felt Garcia could have taped it up and played. I think he was kinda not mentally tough yet b/c Garcia was a only junior. Garcia ended up having a even better senior year. Paracelte won CIP that year in 1995
Was that Ryan Garcia who was LaSalles all-everything that year??? They ran that old school single wing direct snap offense.
Speaking of Loyola, they had local Robert Quigley as well as kicker Mike Giampolo from San Marino. They lost in the finals that year to Ralph Brown and Bishop Amat.
The East was coached by the entire Salter family that year because BA and Upland both won Titles. Covina also got one that year as well as Diamond Bar...meanwhile the West was bounced in the early rounds.
Here is one caveate: Upland was playing down in D6. BA was still D1, Diamond bar took D3 which included Notre Dame and Covina beat Lompoc in the finals in D7.
BTW, Mike Vanis played at UCLA. Vanis was legend his senior year for ripping up Fontana High for over 200 yards. I think he had close to 2,000 that year.
NY & StangFan,
The 1995 La Salle football team had one of their best teams on paper. I number of guys went on to play college ball. They were 9-1 and lost to paraclete in the 1st round after winning by 20. A couple of pasadena and arcadia guys where on that squad. They where supposed to win CIF that year... they ended up winning CIF in baseball that year instead.
Loyola had a couple of arcadia stand outs. RB Mike Vanis and DL Mike Rosa... I believe they went to the finals and lost to Amat. That reminds me....Wasnt Ralph Brown a Pasadena kid???
Of course, back then the "East" reached all the way to Etiwanda. They had two stud DEs from Upland's championship team as well as other guys from the old Mt Baldy and old Baseline leagues.
1995 may have been a golden year. Even Marshal had a wide receiver sign with Univ of Minnesota. Last name was Chambers. We still lost to the East that year. It was a battle of the D-1 guys vs the All-CIF players and coaches.
MT,
Just goes to show you how good the league was back then. Btw, Golper would have fit in quite nicely with those ol' school teams!

Stang Fan,
Even with muir with their world class speed in the 90’s (I mean half the roster ran 4.4’s), arcadia had muir beat in both 1994 & 1995. We blew an early 14 point lead to you guys before half in 1994. And, in 1995 we had a 12 point lead going into 4th. I remember in the 1994, a dude just got of jail and played OL for Muir against Arcadia. The guy was 6’9” 290 as the roster stated. I still have the game film somewhere, unless I think I may have loaned it to my buddy. Do you remember that kid? He was the biggest HS football I have ever seen…. Next in line was Scott Weigand from arcadia. He was 6’8” 270 in HS.
Donk,
Yes he is. Matter of fact, I forgot to list their other brother Shaheed who went to Fresno State from Muir. They also had two older brothers from the 80's that played college ball, though one was in basketball.
Money Talks,
Yeah, few cities could match Dena talent for talent back in the day. It was certainly a special time....like Apache Joe said, hopefully we can get back to that level again, or at least somwhere close.
SG dropped TC in response to Backus getting let go. Keith Jones and Backus are close friends. As soon as the Backus situation became final, Jones called the TC AD to inform him of his decision to drop TC. A few weeks later SG tried to recant but TC had all ready moved on. Don't believe it--Ask MM to call Jones and TC AD.
Stang Fan,
Quick question, is Hassan related to Sultan and Saladin?
Wow. I completely forgot how much talent was in Pasadena. My goodness.
Just goes to show how great our football programs were in the 90's. Hopefully we can get back to that amount of talent in the coming years.
Stang Fan,
The abdul malik bros were pasadena guys as well. Saeed attended Marshall his freshman year. Blair Lewis was also a Pasadena guy growing up. St. Francis and Loyola's rosters in the 90's was loaded with talented pasadena kids too.
Pasadena probably had the best talent anywhere in the nation at that time.
Money Talks,
Yeah, my bad, those guys were pretty damn good too. I'm sure there are even a couple of more that I'm missing. That year I think the depth chart at TB included Shaun Haslip (UNLV), Mikey Graham (simply dominant), Sultan McCullough (USC), and Charles Dunn (All-American and Walter Payton award-winner at Portland State)! And Mathis was a local guy too who played with these dudes with the Pasadena Panthers! Whew! Btw, you think Muir's list is impressive, you should see ALL the talent that has gone through the pop warner system with the Panthers. That includes all of the Muir guys, PLUS the PHS cats, as well as all of the others who went to other local schools. Sick!
Speaking of Muir and LB Poly, when Crutch and EJ were the co-head coaches in the late 90's, I believe Muir took a 12-point lead into halftime before Poly came back and won in the second half. And remember, Muir was a fairly small school compared to Poly...at that time like 1600 students vs. 4800 students.
Looking back, it's quite amazing that we had all that talent. Even though we still have several talented players these days, we just do not have the amount that we use to, with many families moving to the IE and many who stay, but simply choose to send their kids elswhere.
Incorrect,
Hassan Abdul Malik went on to play for CSUN after arcadia. When CSUN cut their program, Hassan went to Northen ills to play LB and started. He played against Drew Brees while he was there.
Actually, the Oklahoma drills are not banned and there would be no reason to, because all it consist of is two lineman (offense and defense) a backer/DB and a running back! A very great and competitive drill! The only thing that i know that has been banned is the old bull in the ring!
I've heard that the old-school "Oklahoma" drills are banned, probably to reduce concussions. That's a good thing according to my buddy Chris Nowinski. I agree.
We play how we practice.
I believe many high school coaches are taking on the college and professional approach of more chalk talk and going shells (helmet, shoulder pads, and shorts), rather than banging everyday! i think deeper teams can afford to go hard a little more than teams that are not so deep! In fact, i was a little surprised that when Rosemead made their run this year they were banging every practice, especially there Wednesday night practice which usually began with a serious goal line session immediately after stretching and individual work! Thought it may have worn on them a bit!
Anyhow, i remember the Abdul-malik brothers from Arcadia, because they played junior all-american football for the Rosemead Rebels. There father who was know around the park as Coach Wally was a massive man, who was as kind and polite as can be, but a true competitor! i remember him telling the kids a story about when he made it the NFL, it was so long ago but i think he said he was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs! You imagine playing even for a period of time for Hank Stram! I was glad to see that his boys ended up stretching out and making a name for themselves. Sultan played more than his other brother, but their body types were completely different! Sultan was a little over weight when he about 14, and i believe his name was Saeed (excuse me if i am wrong or misspelled) was tall and lanky! I remember seeing Sultan at a USC game and he was definitely a man! What ever happened to their youngest brother? I believe he played running back for the rebels back then? In fact, he got more notoriety at the park than his older brothers! He was a stud!
I agree on hitters and contact.
I've seen less vicious, full-tilt contact in recent seasons.
Why is that?
Going back to even more distant times, I played against Arcadia when Salter was head coach.
That year, the Apaches had one of the largest O/D lines ever to come out of the SGV,.
It was anchored by Schumacher and Larkin. (6'7" 285 and and 6'6" 270)Both I believe went on to USC. Before the Moor/Apache game, the Post Advocate had this incredible picture of Arc line standing on a long bench, with the bench badly bent and bowed from the weight.
Going on the field for pre-game warmups,
I was somewhere between scared and stunned when looking across at those dudes - it was like a different race of humans came out of Arcadia.
Arc was 1-3 going into league that year- with losses to top ranked San Marino and St Paul.... and their one victory was a win over Bishop Amat.
That year (73) PHS (Hamilton) won the Pac league, as they did the 2 previous years. The Pac was El Rancho, Montebello, Arc, Muir, PHS, Alhambra and Mark Keppel.
Many, many moons ago.
Mikey Graham would have been one of the greats in Football and Baseball. He probably still ranks as one of Charter Oaks all-time best for just his junior season...he would have been a 7th D-1 ride from that 1995 team.
Stang Fan,
What J.J johnson class of 1996. He went to Oregon State and Mike Hughes that went to Oregon?? Mikey Graham didnt go anywhere b/c of that drive by shooting, but he was unbelieveable.... like a Jones-Drew.
This is a crazy list bro!! I want to see muir compared to LB Poly.
Way to take it back fellas....
There was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much damn talent in the Pacific back then.
Here's a "rough" list that I got from the one and only Coach Bill Paul (real Stangs are laughing at the Coach Paul shot-out right now) of some of the dudes from Muir in the 90's:
Demetrice Martin- Michigan State
Reggie Reser- Washington
Hassan McCullough- BYU
Sedrick Thomas- Oregon State
Big Hank Williams- Colorado
Ronald Jones- Oregon State
D. Stewart- UNLV
Roger Smith- Colorado
Saladin McCullough- Oregon (signed w/ SC first)
Maurice Simpson- San Jose State/Oklahoma State
Andy Colbert- UCLA
Derrick Norman- San Diego State
Mike Perry- UNLV
Charles Myles- Arizona
Marcus Washington- San Jose State
Jonathon Moseley- USC walk-on
Kenny Keys- Occidental
John Long- USD
Kenny Haslip- USC
Lavon Smith- UNLV
Rashad Harrison- Temple
Nigel Younger- Miles College
Dustin Johnson- All-CIF LB who turned down offers from Princeton and Penn to go to Cal as a student...Coach Paul coulda killed him!
Shaun Haslip- UNLV
Steve Morris- Colorado State/Portland State
Charles Dunn- Portland State
Brad Ransom- Portland State

Coach Paul said he's definitely missing a handful, so if anyone can add some please do. All of these players signed with their respective schools, but not all of them finished or even got playing time, though most did. The funny thing is...that's just the 90's!!! You ought to get a load of the list from the 80's! SERIOUS ball players!!!
Btw, MoneyTalks, Mathis was a hell of a RB, and is now a hell of a barber in Altadena. What up Mat!
NY,
YES, We are watching hoover change right before how eyes.... Coach Long @ Hoover right now is one hell of a coach and is a former player under coach D at Serra High. I believe Coach Long and his twin brother were two time all CIF LBs. he has those kids working like no other. It's gonna take a few years but it will happen.
Regarding back in the day, we had an all everything running back Mathis Ward who had a ride to Wisconsin but did not work out b/c of the SAT and Wisconsin ended up using that ride for Ron Dayne. Mathis was the best RB I have seen at Arcadia in the past 20 years... there's been greats like Blair Lewis, chris handy and Audarius Bailey, but Mathis took the cake. Yeah, sultan was a good buddy of mine for years but disappeared to the UK.
On the 1994 arcadia team, there was a LB (All CIF) Cam Lewark... i dont know if you remember him. He was good. Tough as nails. My senior year we had a tough team. To tell you how smash mouth our 1995 team was at arcadia..... Coach D had to call off practice 2 to 3 times because we were too violent. During the start of team D, after one or two plays, he yelled practice is over. Bodies were flying around during practice everyday like it was game day. I use to come home banged up and limping... and I had a constant headache for the whole season...haha we had no trainers telling us to sit out. also we only had one or two water break a pratice too and that had to be earned as well..... back in the day, u could do that, now with all of the liabilty issues and law suits, u can't do that.
Anyhow, back to present time, I really respected Todd Golper. He was a total throwback 90's smash mouth type of player, something we havent seen for years. Very Very enjoyable to watch. It made me wish I was playing with him. The kid was awesome throughout his career @ arcadia and i wish him nothing but the very best at UCLA.
The Hall of Fame Game back then would almost fill Citrus's stadium. Both rosters were full of players going on to college.
At one point in the 90s, San Marino won 6 consecutive league titles in FOOTBALL! Actually, San Marino and TC were both on Arcadia's pre-season schedule back then.
Ah, the good 'ol days. I wasn't around, but I can just imagine the loads of talent.
Moneyman,
Don't forget Arcadia's juniors that year included Sultan Abdul-Malik, Ryan Mitulski and Brian Hubbinger on the O-Line. Sultan played at USC and the other two went to Northridge when they had a program. I guess Kuhlberg just lost interest, but he definitely had the height to play college ball. I think people these days are still giving the Pacific League credit for the depth it had back then.
Funny you mention the softer hitting. My mom went to a Monrovia-TC by game herself a couple years ago and suggested that the hitting was not as intense as when her boys played.
So, are you really suggesting the right coach (Dimalate or somebody else) could turn Keppel or Hoover into Arcadia...
NY,
Yeah, PHS had all pro Chris McAlister (superbowl champ) NFL at QB, Lester Towns NFL at FB, and corner/running back chidi iwuoma NFL (als0 superbowl champ)....
The PL was stacked in 1994!! Muir had 6 D1 guys go in 1995. These kids dont even know how talented the Pacific use to be...CV was good as well. We had a dog fight aganist hoover and won 13-10...hoover made the playoffs that year in 95. Last time they made it.
To be honest, the hits were 10x harder back in the day... no one was soft. I remember watching film of McAlister at Safety..he broke the ribs of some CV dude on a on a crushing hit.
I was on that team 9-3 under coach Doug Smith...we had more talent then my senior year in 1995. One for example, Brad Bedell....he played 6 years in the NFL. Jeff Kulberg was actually better but didnt go on to play. Then he had Saeed Abdul Malik 6'6 245 beast who could have played in the NFL as well. Sometimes he just dominated Bedell in practice. He went to UNLV to play but something happened to him and left the program.
NY,
As well, Coach D was an All Conference DB @ fresno state which I believe he never got beat deep. He even picked off Randall Cunningham when Randall was the QB @ UNLV. He is very modest and doesnt talk too much about his playing days, but I like to brag about as u can see b/c I love the guy LoL When he coached at Frenso State, he coached Lane Kiffin. Coach D is still tight with the Fresno State football program and Pat Hill and is really close with his coach, thelegendary Coach Sweeney.
Arcadia rolled out 9 or 10 wins with Coach Sheperd the year before Coach D arrived. The two league losses were to the highly talented Muir and PHS teams and then a second round loss to Peninsula back in the D2 days. That was when Hart, Saugus and Canyon Country were in the same division as the Pacific League...
Arcadia was his 1st head coaching job....he was an assistant coach on Serra, the D-coordinator. The man is a football genius. He would made a great college head coach, but he loves the HS level.
He really has kept the arcadia program stable throughout the years... If he wasnt coaching arcadia, arcadia would be another Keppel or Hoover. Kids love the guy and want to play hard for him.
Somebody used my monicker.
Fresno State, huh? Maybe that is why BigM referred to him once as "Bulldog Dimalante"...interesting. Was the Arcadia job Dimalante's first as a Head Coach? Regardless, he has a great pedigree. Thanks for sharing.
NY,
Do u have facebook?
After coach D finished playing at Fresno State, he coached at Fresno state and montana state, I believe... then went on to Serra High where he won 2 CIF Championships.
New York,
I believe Dimalante was at Servite before taking the Arcadia job.
Where was Dimalante prior to taking over at Arcadia in 1995?
scratch that, I meant Contreras but I'm still not sure
Goldenarm
I think SG will have Santiago for week 3 not too sure though...
UCLA locals besides Golper
randall carroll (4.4 speed) cathedral
sermons (diamond ranch)
price (amat)
pressley (carson)
mavray (corona)
bowens (la puente)
they also have that monster hawaiian dude at 6'6" and 330.
The way the word originally came down the pipe was SG dumped TC because they wanted somebody different in the 3 slot. (I forget who)
Not sure who the Apaches dropped from slot 3, but somehow it worked out for TC/Arc to happen. In years past, the Rams / Apaches were scrimmage partners, then suddenly last year Arc moved out and ELMO moved in for TC's scrimmage week.
Last year Arcadia came over to TC for a little passing/lineman dickaround, minus Golper. The passing was blah. The line.... even in shorts and cleats the double teams and "own the line" head ups was a gas to watch. Kids starting to "team up" and encourage one another. Good stuff.
If I had not mistaken Dimalante was the Head Coach of the Hall of Fame Game in 1999 the year Coach White graduated from RHS. I remember White starting at Middle Linebacker for the West Side with my son who played on the Offensive side of the ball. Miguel- can you check to see if my memory serves me correct?
But I'm only 25. I'm supposed to be able to handle 13-hour days.
Miguel -
The long days are taking their toll.
