MIQUEL,
can you post the top 10 results from each of the skills categories??
I am thinking D Sanderson from TC will do well...also curious how Nick Bueno will do....
how do you determine the winner of a "fly balls to center " competition??
this should be a great game with some of the best young local athletes..
Anon,
I agree with you that Calloway could have been switched with Li and that the other players you named could have(and probably should have) been 2nd teamers at least. And Popham did make 1st team along with Covey and Li so he wasn't left out. Overall it is a matter of opinion, but don't let the fielding and base running stats fool you. I've seen a Maranatha play a few times and know a few people on the team. While Calloway's fielding and base running stats appear to be better than Li's, Tony is clearly a better outfielder and baserunner and did deserve that 1st team spot.
Too all valley baseball fans,
Steve Yourtsos was originally on the north team but due to an injury he was kept off the list of all-stars, we would have loved to have him on. As far as
Toni Li is concerned, he has been invited to be a part of the all-star festivities. were just waiting for confirmation that he'll be apart of it, Just one of those kids you love to a part of. Hope hell make it.
How are these teams picked?
All players have to be nominated first by there coach. we then compile stats from the year and give them to the coaches of the north (dan henley) and the south (gilbert adame) and there coaching staff. then they figure out who will be a part of each team. we ultimatley have to trust the coaches who they nominated displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season.
also from glendora for the north team is jacob smigelski and jacob cage
Why not -
Stevie Yortsos probably should have made it on his ability but maybe the coaches in the area know about his bad attitude. That might have made the difference.
Area Kid -
Toni Li is a great kid and a great hitter. I think he deserved to be recognized for his efforts this year.
Did he really deserve 1st team all CIF or even 2nd team? I'm not sure about that but congrats to him.
There were a good handful of players on MHS that could have been given either award and were not. Why did Jordan Calloway only get Second Team? One could argue that Toni and Jordan should probably, at least, be reversed. Why was Mark Jebbia, Danny Beckwith, Matt Chavez, Shafer Chuley and I think even Cory Popham left off all together? They all deserved it as much, if not more.
When a player gets an award, it is usually decided, in the end on an opinion.
Should you look at just batting average and don't consider how many at bats the player had or should you also look at things like on base percentage and steals or fielding percentage. I think you need to look at all of it and then make your decision.
Just my opinion though and I don't decide the outcome. I do think that the right guys from MHS were picked for the underclassmen game based on looking at all of the stats and not just batting average. I am however one that also happens to think that Toni is a tremendous player. There are always going to be deserving players left out of any situation like this.
Way to go Maranatha on a great season!
Please explain to me why Stevie Yortsos was left off the north team.
Come one,
I never said that they were, but they do have a lot of young talent who in the last two years have been to two CIF titles. i think that as a result of this, they should be rewarded more than lets say the RHL teams who all went out before the 2nd round.
Area Kid
Just cause they are the only team that won cif doesnt mean that they are the best team in the area.
to yup.
very true...he needs to grow up.
Miguel,
Who decides who plays on these teams? Maranatha has 5 players, and they should because they're the only team in the area that won a CIF, but I'm disappointed that Tony Li is not on the roster. He made 1st all-CIF over all his teamates who get a shot in this game and I'm just wondering how he got left off the roster?
I agree with Yup completely. Sadly for the Apaches, we've had to play against Kauppila first at CV and now at Burbank and he is the most unsportsmanlike athlete in any sport I've ever seen. It's a shame that attribute won't be considered in this decision process.
Lonnie Kauppila is a beast no doubt about it but he has the worst attitude i have ever seen on a player.
Nice to see Brett Smith recognized. Good job Kiko
lonnie kapila the best player in this mix by far.
Have you finalized the rosters yet?
If so what are they?
Congratulations to all the Maranatha players and coach for being selected to the All CIF Southern Section Baseball Division V team.
Player of the Year: Dylan Covey
Coach of the Year: Brian DeHaan
1st Team: Tony Li and Cory Popham
2nd Team: Jordan Calloway
Guys, way to represent!
M,
Need to post All League 1/2/um honors when you get to it. Thanks
But if you did you would have them right?
Like with the Hall of Fame football all-star game, I don't select this team ...
I hope you have Tuck and Larson on this team.
Ha ... I took yesterday off, but thanks for the concern. Just trying to re-energize the batteries. Ya know?
Miguel:
Welcome Back - Was about to go and light a candle for you.
