New Fiesta Bowl format is more attractive

| | Comments (13) |

Hey Westsiders, Miguel had the long weekend off and will be back this afternoon. In the meantime, here's today's Fiesta Bowl preview ...

The third annual Fiesta Bowl will have a different flavor on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Whittier College and a format change that matches the Inland Empire against Los Angeles County senior all-stars. Wait, didn't that already happen? The format is similar to the "Gridiron War" held a few weeks back at Long Beach City College, which also matched the Inland Empire against L.A. County in a game that ended with 11 minutes remaining after a fight broke out between the teams. The ending of that one should make Saturday's game interesting, especially with the L.A. County team comprised mostly of players from the San Gabriel Valley and Whittier.

With one new topic in 10 days - no wonder the blog is near death.

There are 4 ways all over town today - and a 16 plus team tourney at Arroyo Saturday, including Charter Oak, Los Altos and several other area teams competing.

Tip reportedly has broken the "20 players suited up" barrier...not bad from a start of 4 kids. Moors are doing some good stuff, there are fball happenings across the valley....but it feels like chkyrslf travel ball season around here.

What's the deal??

I have heard that LC is looking pretty good so far this summer. Moore looks like the starter and they say he has vastly improved from last year. Backing him up is last years JV QB Gray. They say he is looking strong. I am told they have a bunch of very good receivers.

BF Fan,
regarding RHL QB's...I filled in some "probable" starters below

Anybody got a list of the potential QB starters for the RHL teams?

SP: Bednarski
Monrovia: Bueno
TC:? Smith (youngster Copping still a strong contender)
LC:? R Moore
SM:? J Forgatch
Blair:? I believe the same kid from last year, but probably a bad guess....need a Vike supporter to answer that one.

Miquel,
Did somebody put a sparkler in your Dos Equis bottle? Where are you man?

A-Town Moors face off against "STIFF" D1 competition
tomorrow, Thursday July 9th @ Mater Dei H.S. 5pm
Interesting passing games and some great schools the Moors
will be throwing against:

1-Mater Dei H.S.
2-Tesoro H.S.
3-Lakewood H.S.
4-Alhambra H.S.
I think it's a great idea for the boys to step up to the challenge and compete against a higher level of skill.
I know it doesn't mean much being just passing games,
but a good experience for the boys.

I like the no blitzing, share game plan format.
The IE team looks pretty bad A on paper.

Good luck to the Stang 5 and the SGV. I plan on going to the game.

let 'em play - i agree 100%. It should not be the refs responsibility. The players and coaches need to be held to a higher standard in games like this. This type of stuff happens way to often in "All-Star" games. Players come in with egos trying to "rep" for their posse and things get out of control. Saw it happen years ago when i played in one of these games, and then again a couple years ago when my brother played in one of these games. it just takes away from the whole purpose of the game.

How in the hell can the Refs reign it in? They are there just for the game. These are high school graduates who need to take responsibility for there actions. And what about the coaches? They have the kids for two weeks. They should lay down the law at the first meeting.
If these kids want to play then great....if not get out of the way for those that do want to play.

Apparently at the dinner the night before the game, both teams were jawing off at each other all night, turning up the temperature even before the game. Then during the game the trash talk completely escalated resulting in a sideline clearing brawl. That is from my source who had a son play in the game.

Fred,

Any idea what preceeded or initiated the fight?

It is too bad the refs could not reign it in...but "bad" behavior is tough to control when their is no consequence other than a simple ejection. What other options are their to prevent escalation and the eventual calling of the game? The coaches must have been bummed with the outcome as well.

Glad to hear Miquel's vacation and crimes did not call for jail time...we need him in good health!
