Star-Jibber: The Top 5 returning football studs

Contrary to popular belief, I am not taking off on a two-week vacation. I’m somewhat dreading the one-week vacation as it is. Still have no definite plans but I’m very spontaneous when it comes to these type of things. I already know I’ve got Vegas the last weekend of August and a wedding in September down in La Jolla. While I’m gone, do you have any suggestions on how we can try to keep this thing flowing? Remember, I leave Sunday and don’t return until Aug. 10. Keith Lair doesn’t have the keys to this blog. I’m thinking of asking Fred to post a thread once in a while just to keep you guys in sane. I know there’s been limited action here. Some long-piece features have kept me busy. I can assure you once Hell Week is fully underway we’ll get this thing back on track. For now, let me give you my official unofficial Top 5 returning football players in the WSGV.

Leading things off is my boy …..

1. DIETRICH RILEY, ST. FRANCIS, SR.

QUICK LOOK: Riley, who quickly caught the eye of USC, Alabama, Texas and Texas Tech among others, was a strong presence on both ends of the ball. He earned most valuable offensive honors in the Mission League after rushing for 1,034 yards and six touchdowns He anticipated plays well at defensive back and his speed was unmatched.

MY TAKE: One look at this kid and you can’t help but go shopping for a couple footballs and a sharpie. This kid’s legit and will be making some noise well after his high school and collegiate playing days. St. Francis might be too predictable with Riley in the backfield, which is why they’re rotating him at several positions, which in the end may end up diminishing his role. Stick Riley at two (or three spots max) and you’ll see why Riley’s receiving so much buzz. Since the end of the season, Riley’s fielded offers from Notre Dame and LSU. Any chance he becomes a Bruin?

2. MITCHELL CROCKOM, ALHAMBRA, SR.

QUICK LOOK: Crockom was part of the talented group of receivers who immediately caught the eye of opposing defenses. He caught 36 passes for 791 yards and six touchdowns and he also provided a strong presence on defense while playing defensive back. Crockom caught most of his yards while being double-teamed and at times triple-teamed, putting his athletic abilities on display in just about every down whether the ball was thrown to him or not.

MY TAKE: Memo to Darrian Cazarin: Throw more to this kid. 791 yards receiving and six touchdowns aren’t exactly the numbers such an athletically-built player should have when it’s all said and done. The hunch here is Crockom will have a breakout year and have well over 1,000 yards receiving and 10+ touchdowns. Alhambra will finish second in the Almont League and make a quarterfinals appearance come playoffs.

3. ISAAC VALDEZ, SAN GABRIEL, SR.
i-bcf94e9f36b629dad3b8fb801ebc38b7-10-1-07-7-VALDEZ1.gif

QUICK LOOK: Valdez completed almost 64 percent of his passes. He was the Star-News’ first team All-Area quarterback after throwing for 2,754 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 5-foot-7 Valdez displayed his speed as well, rushing for nearly 700 yards and six touchdowns.

MY TAKE: Imagine the college scouts all over San Gabriel High if Valdez was 6-foot-3?!?! Heck, he’d like to be at least 5-foot-10, Valdez said to me once during the All-Area photo shoot. Nonetheless, Valdez has shown he has a rocket of an arm, each year improving on yards passing. He’s not elusive but he is quick, making him a true threat for the Matadors which already boast a talented backfield. San Gabriel finished 5-6 overall and were ousted in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, but you have to remember injuries plagued San Gabriel with the loss of Marcos Villalobos, who wasn’t the same after separating his shoulder in the Alhambra game. Things are looking up for the Matadors. Keep an eye out on their offensive line. They won’t exactly match Temple City’s studs, but they’ll be up there, meaning Valdez could have an even better season come Fall.

4. NICK BUENO, MONROVIA, JR.

QUICK LOOK: Bueno completed 55 percent of his passes and threw for 1,037 yards and had 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns as well. Bueno was instrumental in leading the Wildcats to the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division playoffs. Bueno also led Monrovia to a Rio Hondo League championship after an impressive 5-0 record in league.

MY TAKE: Bueno was thrown to the fire and the kid didn’t disappoint. Monrovia took some bumps and bruises in mastering the Wing-T offense and though Marquis Williams was a big part of the offense’s success, it was Bueno’s dependability that grew as the season progressed, allowing the Wing-T offense to be effectively executed. Monrovia’s one dimensional offense evolved when Bueno was given more responsibility. He’s not quick but he is patient and mastered his way into finding options even when the pocket sometimes collapsed. Look for Bueno to have more responsibility in the offense with the absence of Marquis.

5. STEVIE YORTSOS, SAN MARINO, SR.

QUICK LOOK: The junior helped the Titans open the season with eight straight victories and an appearance in the CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division playoffs. He caught 34 passes for 604 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging nearly 18 yards per catch. Yortsos was just as involved defensively, recording 35 tackles and seven interceptions.

MY TAKE: Quite a few players were up for the last and final spot (including Muir’s Jarron Williams and Monrovia’s Josh Lowden) but I’m feeling pretty high about Yortsos. His numbers above speak for itself, and with Joe Forgatch at quarterback we could see Yortsos having a breakout year as well. As scary as that may seem, Yortsos could be looking a lot stronger and dangerous on the defensive side. Yortsos and the Titans will be tested early. Soon we’ll see if they respond.

Miguel i’m just wondering but is this the top 5 returning athletes overall or top 5 returning football players?

  • Miguel Melendez

    Football…my bad.

The top 3 are fine, but not having Max Ruckle on this list at #4 or #5 is a Joke! Come on MM your better than that!

  • Observer

I really don’t understand what the hype for Valdez is.
I saw him in a passing league game and I thought to myself, San Gabriel must be a running style team because their QB cant throw very well.

  • Anne Onimus

Nick Bueno of Monrovia is only a junior.

  • Observantcat

Miguel, you have one right…. now the rest are arguably very questionable, I love Nick Bueno but he would come right after Josh Lowden on the Monrovia sideline. I bet even he would say the same. TC Fans really have a gripe Max Ruckle is going to be their star Bar None this year. I’m willing to say that even Mike Mooney would be willing to trade his star for Ruckle any day of the week. Though the numbers don’t quite show but I’d say that 9 of 10 coaches in the San Gabriel’s top 10 teams would take Jaron Williams at John Muir over Issac Valdez any day of the week. You may want to make it the top ten players and slide all of your top five to the bottom leaving just Riley at the top of this list.

Yep…Bueno is only a junior. Gonna be scary good at this level the next two years.

Who is Rovia’s little shifty scat back (they used towards the end of the season)? Is he a junior too?

  • Goldenarm

    Ruckle
    123 yds a game
    17 TD’s
    1600 plus yards

and remember, the first 4 games of the season he was not even a primary ballcarrier! Maybe 4 carries per game, if that. It was not until La Salle that Ruckle began getting the football.

No big deal, the rest are all deserving. It is this year I hope the accolades come for Max.

  • The Stang Fan

Hey, there can only be five guys. Not every school will be represented, which, of course, riles the natives and we come on here to blast away. Gotta love it!

All five of these young men played well last year and have earned themselves some ink for this season. That’s great! It doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the 5 best football players in our area. Hell, there isn’t even one O-lineman, D-lineman or linebacker on that list…you know, the REAL football players (although, there never are anyhow). And there will certainly be some young guys we have yet to hear about that will step on the scene and make some noise this year.

With that said, I think you’ve got the first two right with Riley and Crockum, after that we can ALL argue who we think goes where….so here goes my list:

    1. Riley (All-Everything with offers everywhere)
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    2. Crockum (offers to UNLV and New Mexico St.)

    3. Lowden (loved the kid on the MVN interview, and is a tough, gritty LB/OL from what I hear)

    4. Danny Huerta (one of the most underrated kids in the area…Junior-to-be OL/DL 3 yr. starter at Muir)

    5. Jarron Williams (unlike some of the other solid QB’s, he is one of the best Safeties around…ask Nick Montana)

  • Bigfatfan

For those boys not mentioned in this blog, that should serve as motivation to work hard and kick se a@@ this fall

  • J Sutton

Where is Rosemead TE/DE Luis Diaz? Another one bites the dust in MM! Weren’t you at the San Dimas game where he caught 3 td’s and had 2 sacks? Or ask your #4 guy Bueno who he is, he’s the guy that sacked him twice and picked him off for a TD!

Valdez is a joke too! I know you really like this guy MM but you should ask ANY coach other than the SG guys and they will tell you that he is the most OVERRATED qb around!

    The list should be:
    1. Riley (SF)
    2. Mitchell (AHS)
    3. Diaz (RHS)
    4. Lowden (MHS)
    5. Ruckle (TC)

You really dropped the ball on this one MM!

  • Reno Hightower

While Valdez doesn’t have a rifle arm like yours truly once did, he gets the job done. He’s smart and gets the ball to the right people. Who cares if there mostly screens, slants, and fades. Valdez runs Jude Olivia’s offense as well as anyone (better than the big guy two years ago) and gets his team to the playoffs. TC would love to have him. Drew Brees doesn’t pass the eye ball test either but has put better numbers than Peyton Manning the last two years. Ruckle will be hard pressed to put up the same numbers as last year because of TC’s new offense. Riley and Cockrum just have more talent than anyone else.

  • !stang!

Jarron was a better defensive player then the bottom 4 players.
Crokum- only scored against 5 teams last year and he wasnt even the best player in his league. He only had 3 100yd games.

valdez couldnt handle Jarron one on one . Jarron was a force on defense. 1int, 1 sack, and a big hit against oaks Christ.

    * Miguel – jarron had to split time a still threw for 1599 yards 15td. the kid is a stud. Miguel this was a big mistake having to 4 guys above him . I think you needed this vacation!

  • uguysarecrazy

why so much hate towards valdez cmon now
he can both run and throw the ball he has the numbers too prove it! over 5,100 yards in his career and another 1,000 on the ground he’s done it before and will do it big this yr the kid hopefully uses all this negativity as motivation!

  • sgvfan

i seen valdez at a four way between st francis cathedral and burbank and it thought he could really throw the ball all over the field best qb out there
    go st francis!
    good luck boys

  • curiousgoerge

MM-I think that kid from Rosemead should be on the list
    OLB/TE
Who ever thinks M. Crockum shouldn’t be on the list,
    well that’s just ridiculous.
    By the way STANG!
    36 grabs almost 800 yds rec. 6 tds(note: in only 8 games)
    oh yeah by the way 6’2 187 4.5 40yds 39′ inch vert
Got 4 legit offer’s already Washington, UNLV, New Mexico st., Idaho and this cat doesn’t deserve to be on the list?
Valdez great player his stats speak for themselves…
Jarron better than all 4 player’s?
and no stats come up on max preps so can’t really say.
    1-Riley
    2-Crockum
    3-Valdez
    4-Diaz
    5-???

  • curiousgoerge

And by the way trust me by season’s end this list will
change and Vailele Peco Rb/Db AHS will be top 5 no doubt.
    The kid is something special.

  • Rams09

There are too many returning playmakers to narrow down to five, if anything there should be ten and a few more mentions in the area this year.

Ruckle should be on this list, i mean the stats speak for themselves. He has a lot of elusive talent and speed, and with a year of experience i’m sure he’s grown a lot more to become a very strong threat in the rhl and a possible contender for league mvp (if tc sticks to the run behind the stud line another year)

  • Nervo

Ruckle should be here. His run style brings to mind that of Sushi Tsai

  • JJIMENEZ

    No Luis”Sweets”Diaz from the ‘Mead??

  • Goldenarm

Many of the players mentioned will be taking on added responsibility this year, as it should be. What senior wants his last year of football to be a crappy one? Those who have been close to the game know the emotion that kids feel as the players realize some are moving on and others are left behind. After Paraclete last year, I was reminded of the bond built over hundreds of hours and several seasons – for many of these kids this will be their 4th year playing next to each other…and then, comes the realization it won’t be happening anymore.
It may sound a bit on the soap opera side…but actually it is just a reminder of some of the benefits
that involvement in team sports bring to our young people. These impact players need to not only do their own thing – but to provide leadership and elevate the play of those around them – in all ways they know how.
Maybe that quality and ability is one which should be factored into the selection process.

  • !stang!

I apologize , that comment did come off kind of hateful. I may be a little tough , but 800 with crockum shedule doesn’t impress me. J.williams threw for 1599 and 15 TD. And he didn’t come in as QB until the 4TH game. But nothing else needs to said Jarron will lead his team and be one of the top players this year( even with a toughier shedule this must of the others players. )

  • Goldenarm

    TC FANS,

Art Carrington is the latest addition to the San Marino Titans football staff.

I can almost hear the unending sideline lectures from here.

  • Anne Onimus

    Desert Rat,

Everyone Monrovia had in the backfield last year has left either due to graduation or other reasons. This year they have a new group of talented tailbacks that will cause some wave in the RHL. They also have a new crop of receivers with good speed. With Bueno at the helm and an experienced O-line, it should make for an exciting season. I believe a kid named Brown currently has the top spot at tailback. Ramirez, at the slot position, will be fun to watch when he gets the ball in his hands. Johnson will be a load to stop once he gets rolling. He dominated at the JV level. An interesting note, during passing league, Bueno was always out with the first team D playing cornerback. And from what I could see, I believe he is their best defensive back, especially in man coverage.

  • CatsFan

Those of you that are questioning the Nick Bueno selection will find out how good this kid is this season. The entire coaching staff is excited to have this kid for two more seasons. By the way, he runs a 4.4 40 for those who think that he isn’t quick. He would be the starting running back if he wasn’t so good at qb.

  • JFMatador

    For MR.Observer and MR.J Sutton,

I do believe that tight end for Rosemead should be on the list too.

  • curiousgoerge

    Stang!

You have every right to believe that Jarron should be on the list i’m sure he’s a legit candidate.
When you say he better than all 4 others?
Well as for M Crockum, all he seems to impress
are the D1 college scouts i’m quite sure he’s not really worried about your negative opinion.
He will impress plenty this season.

  • FB Einstein

I like the kid from SG but that music sucks! Whoever dripped that whack-juice on his youtube vid. needs to get his ears checked.

The WR from Alhambra is the most overrated on this list. He will go D-I and disappear as fast as Monrovias QB dropping back in the pocket.

Ruckle will get his due come September. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqxY6hyAOZg&feature=related

Look closely at around the 5:35 mark of this videoIm pretty sure thats #4 from SM getting juked then outran.

  • J SUTTON

    JF MATADOR,

I just watched the YouTube link to Valdez’s highlight. Although he looks good on his HIGHLIGHT film, I have seen this kid in action and he just does not impress me or any coaches I talk to around the WSGV. Maybe its the Tex Tech theory. If the kid throws over 40 times a game he should complete at least 50% right? I would love to see SG play Rosemead but word around the camp fire is Jones is afraid because he does not want to lose all the Rebel kids to RHS. Any truth to that? I know Koffler has repeatedly called SG to sign a contract but they have refused over and over again.

  • Anonymous

Since everyone’s posting highlight tapes, i thought i’d post Lowden’s. It’s his combined Junior and Sophomore year.

M- Why on earth would Riley be interested in anything that weasel Neuheisel had to offer when we has so many better opportunities? Love Bueno though- as pointed out earlier, he’s quicker than credited.

  • Fan 4

FYI: Nick Bueno is a Jr. this year. Noticed a couple comments/articles indicating he’s a senior. Saw him at a couple passing tournaments. He looked really good. He was also starting at corner on defense.

  • Sam32

Check out this highlight video of Vailele Peko from Alhambra. He’s gonna be a junior. Should make the list one day.

    FB Einstien,

The WR from AHS is the most talented in our area
    @ that position. Over-rated?
I guess you haven’t seen the kid recently but I watched him literally dominate a city team in DORSEY H.S.
and made it look effortless. I’m not a Moor fan but I can’t hate on this kid I saw this with my own eyes.
Dorsey had at least 3-4 D1 guys on Defense and Mitchell put on a clinic. I thought he was over-rated last year but this kid is the real deal this year. If your team play’s AHS I wouldn’t be adding flame to this young man.
He is rated just fine in my book @ #2 behind Riley.
Both these boys will shine on saturday’s.
Good luck to all our SGV teams can’t wait for season.

Do you know if more Rosemead Rebels go to SG or Rosemead? Besides area wise kids in block that go to SG live closer to kepple but this has nothing to do with it.

go watch the turkey tussel highlights. Jarron played well a couple open feild tackles at corner, and spreaded the ball around well on offense.

Louis Diaz from Rosemead is a stud as well as Joey Diaz. Nobody should sleep on those two kids!

I coach at Rosemead Rebels and i would say that most of my team either went to Rosemead or San Gabriel, they are jrs. and sophmores Also,2 at Temple City, Vince Hernandez at South Hills , a couple at Schurr , i dont know the boundaries, but i lived in S. San Gabriel and my sons went to Schurr, you figure it out, Valdez and Joey Diaz were also there but i did not coach them, both are great players, but both schools feed from our program equally i would say , and i personally have great relations with the staff at S.G., Matt Koffler, and Anthony White, all former players at our program, also, those tight ends from Rosemead are very good

    CatFan,
Any idea whether or not Bueno will be returning punts this year. With his elusiveness, Nick would rack up a lot of return yards.

  • Bigfatfan

I’d be concerned using Bueno too much. If he gets hurt running a punt back, the Cats are screwed

  • CatsFan

New York, I’ve been told that even though Nick is probably their best return guy, that he would not be used there. Also, he will only be used at corner on crucial situations. Coach Griffin told me a few months ago that Nick has D1 skills at corner.

  • New York

Plenty of high school QBs are used on defense and special teams. Bueno is a great athlete and should be allowed to compete elsewhere if he wants to. I think the concern about players getting injured going both ways is overhyped.

  • The Stang Fan

    NY,

You bring up a REALLY interesting point there. The whole idea of going one-way vs. going both ways.

There are a few ways to go with that topic. First and foremost, the more guys you have going both ways, the less likely it is that the team will head deep into the playoffs. This is certainly true in the Pac-5, where schools like Poly, MV, Loyola, etc. have TONS of really good players. The further you go down in divisions the more you can get away with playing a few guys both ways.

Then there’s the subject of WHICH positions are best for going both ways, and which aren’t. This generally comes down to whether or not to play your QB on defense or not, and if so, at what position. I have ALWAYS had difficulty with this question. Ususally it comes down to who the QB is, what he is made up of, is he needed on the defense, at what position, and how good is the back-up QB.

When Lance Mitchell was our QB, there was NO QUESTION that he was going to be on defense. That’s where he was at his best, and that’s where he was being scouted at by ALL the Pac-10′s. But, he was one of the toughest kids to ever play at the Stang’s house. Hell, he even played a TON of LB his senior year. However, his QB’ing was tremendously affected in my opinion, and I sometimes wondered, would we have been better off with a different kid behind center.

Last year was interesting. When Bingo played QB (and everything else on offense), I had NO QUALMS about him playing corner on defense…and he was DAMN good. But my thought was, if he went down, we had Jarron to come in, AND at corner he wouldn’t be getting beat down at all. Now, when Jarron played, especially when Bingo was hurt late in the season, I’d always get nervous when he played at Safety and LOVED when they would move him to corner, because there was NO ONE behind him at QB and he was a very physical Safety.

Anyhow, I’d be interested to hear people’s thoughts on this, and whether or not, as NY put it, the danger of going both ways is “overhyped” or not.

I also heard that two other former tc coaches maybe going to san marino as well! I know for a fact that that the former oc and the fat guy who coached line were at the rosemead v san marino passing league game during the summer.

Yep, I guess Mooney or somebody felt some of the Titans needed some up close and personal conversation (look at me when I am talkin to you!).

Shouldn’t take too long for him to single out somebody on the scout team and start rippin him a new one…..whether deserved or not!

  • Rams Know It All

    Hey Nervo and Rams 09

Regarding Art Carrington. You were part of the problem not part of the solution. Your lack of awarenes for sideline control creates confusion and chaos as situational groupings, special team call outs, and overall football strategy plans are missed as you yack away. You guys were laughiing and slap d***ing around and the Rams send out 10 guys for punt/PAT. BLOCKED! Or have to waste a time out. You were both slow, lazy, and took plays, reps, and (your junior year off). How did you get bettet to play @ the Varsity level? Your football knowledge is limited to Madden and occasional touch football @ lunch. Any staff that has Art Carrington will be better.

  • Info

Rams Know It All, dont take it personally some parents, players and other coaches work better than others. from who I know they say Al is old school, which may not work today. Rams 09 and Nevero will succed with their new coaches just like San Marino will succeed with theirs.

  • Goldenarm

    Ram Know it All,

A little confusing, but it appears you may have created a new niche in the coaching ranks…SIDELINE CONTROL SPECIALIST. After all, somebody has gotta do it.

Not sure why you jump to insults toward TC alum / supporters who obviously have been around Coach Carrington. I do respect the time, hours and effort he put in at TC…though last season it seemed he played a reduced role and frequently was not present at all.

Good luck to him at San Marino.

  • Goldenarm

    WARNING TO SAN MARINO

    Ok, that is it.
Word is you guys are trying to recruit our TEAM MOMS!
    Is nothing left sacred!

We currently have 4 of them, and all 4 are 1st team RHL.

These women can bake a cake, sell fireworks and load 6 ice chests with Gatorade – while raffling off Coach Backus’s old gym shorts simultaneousy….and still make a profit for the team!

One more thing, you piss off these women, your season will be one of misery and endless hell. Leave them be- or brace yourself for decades of horrible football, poor attendance and E Coli at the snack bar.

Trust me, they can do it.

  • Apache Joe

    !Stang!,

Thats a great idea. I would have to add Auddarrius Bailey (arcadia) from that list as well as Matt Wiegand (epic battle between him and Shaun Cody his senior year, that was an unbelievable game).

  • Hal Lamaster

    !stang!

Good start to the “Top 10 of the Decade” list. Probably should add Sean Smith from Blair, now a rookie with the Miami Dolphins.

he may not be top 10 in the area in the past decade, but Michael Howe was pretty good for the Apaches a couple years back, carrying Arcadia to their best season of recent years in ’02?

  • MoneyTalks

My top ten in SGV this decade

No order b/c they were all great

    Todd Golper – Arcadia
    Sean Smith – Blair
    Lance Mitchell – Muir
    Desmond Reed – TC
    Chris Handy – Arcadia
    Adam Gabriel – Monrovia
    Dietrich Riley – St. Francis
    Landon Goodwell- Rio Hondo Prep
    Ramses Barden – Flintridge Prep
    Lavelle Peterson – La Canada

  • moneyTalks

I heard Landon Goodwell from Rio Hondo Prep is the projected starter @ LB for UTEP. That dude was a unbelieveable his senior year @ rio hondo prep. The kid was a beast.

  • Hal Lamaster

    Good call “Moneytalks”
Ramses Barden, now with the New York Giants, was an all-everything player at Flintridge Prep and Cal Poly.

I see in the NFL guide he is listed being from Altadena. Does that mean he could have been a Muir Mustang?

yes the alhambra reciever is talented, as well as san gabriels qb…its too bad schurr shut down both these players last season!

  • !stang!

Barden ( flint prep) , D. Riley( st . Fanny) , A.Bailey ,the snowden brothers (charter oak). D.rufus( charter oak,V.adams ( alameny) along with 5 other players. This is just some of the players that should of been at muir. All of them has been all league in their respective leagues. So much talent

    Rams Know It All

thanks for the kind words, based on your response you clearly are unaware of who I am, but that’s ok. It is true that players on the sideline need to be attentive to the game. However, for a “coach” to show up to maybe one practice a week and during the game yell “get back from the sideline” over and over, well, I find that hardly an assistance worth coveting…

While he is a funny guy and he knows football, I’m unconvinced his presence will make a difference…

  • TCFAN

hahahahahaahhaha this is all great !!!!
Coach Carrington, have fun telling all those rich white boys at San Marino to “Get BACK!!!!!.. dUMMY DUMMY DUMMY!!!! dot’t you know ‘m trying to get the refs on our side!!!!” They’ll listen to you less than the TC boys did over the years.
Sidenote—-, Ruckle shouldn’t be on this list, he’s good but he’s got a lot to prove… Nick Bueno! HA ! he’s not even in the top 15 … so maybe Ruckle should be on there, he’s in a class above Bueno… Nick Bueno = NO BUENO!!!!!!
    Back to Carrington
He is a good guy, so all of the TC guys should miss his hillarious a** on the sidelines and during practice…”Which knee hurts, your right knee or your weenie?” Simply hilarious, I truly wish him all the best,
goldenarm, tc know it all, and nervo you’re all right … “SIDELINE CONTROL SPECIALIST..” freakin’ hilarious.. He wont impact San Marino football at all , maybe add a few laughs and a few arguements but thats it…
and one more thing, this all simply leads back to one coach leaving a school that should have never let him go and they should have bought him a million dollar house if thats what he wanted(it wasnt it was actually something he deserved) it was the dumbest thing TCHS ever did… Let go of Coach Mooney…
One of the best coaches the school has ever seen

  • Rams09

Owch Rams know it all, should i be hurt? hahaha

Carrington is a absolutely hilarious guy that i’ll always remember. I always looked forward to that once a week where he’d have a funny comment about someone, but as everyone else already said: sideline specialist.

  • Goldenarm

    Stang Fan, NY

You had a discussion started on going both ways. I agree on the aspect that as competition stiffens, having players going both ways becomes a disadvantage for you. Usually it is the skill positions that get commented on, such as QB/Safety, RB/MLB or wide receiver / db.

The line players are big time affected, and mental toughness gets tested again and again.. Sometimes you see a kid drag in at halftime, his jersey and his expression already looking destroyed…and you wonder what he has left for the 2nd half. For reference, I think of the Paraclete game, where the physicalness in the trench was full tilt, FULL TILT…and it took a toll on players going both ways.

This is why the “hell” in hell week becomes so important…you have two weeks of psycho conditioning…and basically 4 days later play a live scrimmage. In the case of the Muir kids…they must immediately face down an always tough Diamond Ranch team, and if they lose, rebound with Oaks Christian.
Both teams have heavy hitters on defense, looking to make some noise.

The beach, a couple summer Blockbusters….
You barely have adjusted your jock, and somebody is already looking to knock it off. Damn. 40 days….I B READY.

    RHL QB’S – DEFENDERS

While Bueno from Monrovia has been getting the lion’s share of attention, returnees Bednarski (1463yds) and Moore (1252yds) both threw for more pass yardage than Bueno last season.
Of course, having Marquise Williams in the backfield to advance the ball for you is a factor. Bednarski pretty much “had” to throw.
The RHL might have a 2000 yd passer this season.

Likewise, Josh Lowden is a great defensive player, but at least 4 other returning RHL players exceeded his 5.5 tackles per game in 08. Thing is, Monrovia has several other strong defenders returning, Haggard among them.

San Marino may have the most defensive returnees of any RHL team…and will be a better D squad this year. TC returns 1 defensive starter….maybe two if you want to get technical.

  • Anne Onimus

    TCFan,

Can you please elaborate on your statement. What exactly does Ruckle have to prove? And how exactly is Nick Bueno, “no bueno”?

  • BOOOOYAAA!

Schurr aint doing NOTHING this season. They will not shut down Valdez this year and the Moors will SMASH the Spartans this year.

#1 from the Moors will put up big numbers this year if he doesnt changes will have to be made.

    Almont league champs ALHAMBRA MOORS

  • RHS Alum

TCFAN, Bueno is the real deal. Our coaches were more worried about him than they were of Williams. I hear that he is the focal point of their offense this season. Good luck in trying to contain him.

  • Goldenarm

Ruckle has nothing to prove…he has had 200+ yd rushing performances since his sophomore year. He put down 174 on M-town’s VERY respectable defense. He’s been hit plenty and he gets back up.

On D he is a topedoing low tackler who rarely misses.

  • Goldenarm

    Oh yeah…Bueno’s 10 TD’s 3 INT’s
is a ratio to make any OC smile

    GA-

Too bad Ruckle will be mostly used in the slot wr position
with TC’s brand new spread offense.
I’ll take Bueno over Ruckle anyways that’s just my opinion

    Max Ruckle vs Arroyo: 9 carries/ 59 yds/ 1td
    Alhambra: 1 carry/ 3 yds/ 0 td’s
    San Gabriel: 3 carries/ 13 yds/ 0 td’s
    Rosemead: 6 carries/ 12 yds/ 0 td’s

Were they in spread these four games?
I predict similar stats this season for rushing.

  • curiousgoerge

    Golden,
If your gonna go there,”… returnees Bednarski (1463yds) and Moore (1252yds) both threw for more pass yardage than Bueno last season.”
Then i’m going with another returner over at AHS
    Darrian Cazzarin 2209 yds/ 24td’s!
    I predict over 3000 yds/ 30+ this coming season.
And by the way, Max Ruckle in my opinion is a top 10
returner, I’m sure he will have a great year with his huge guy’s up front.
Can’t wait for this dead period to be over n’ done with!

  • Anonymous

    Anonymous 12:53,

Max Ruckle was not the starter in the first four games of last season. It was a senior. He was used sparingly at running back, but played defense. Then, he broke out the 5th game and started the rest of the season.

  • Tim Loya

I have enjoyed reading this blog from time to time and I have always enjoyed the insight and enthusiasm shared by people for their respective teams. I will probably read it more this year as I will not be on the sidelines but will once again be a fan of high school football.

I have read some interesting comments about Art Carrington that have left me truly in shock. I had the honor of coaching with Art for eight years during my time at TC. In that time, I don’t ever recall being called for a sideline penalty or being given a sideline warning. Im pretty sure La Salle was hit with a big one during our game last year that proved to be costly. Some people have made jokes about a sideline coach but I have always maintained the importance of such an individual. During the games you can’t help but to get caught up in the heat of the moment and more often than not you lose focus of the kids behind you. There are also instances as a coach when things get heated with the refs. (Very seldom but it does happen!) Art always took care of the kids and was always in our ears to keep cool in certain scenarios. Trust me, I consider myself a very calm individual but things happen in the heat of the game and well you know He was a mainstay during Coach Mooneys tenure and he was quickly retained by Coach Backus and now he has returned to help Coach Mooney. I think that speaks volumes in itself.

Art might not have been around everyday to attend practice but he was around everyday as a friend and more importantly as a mentor to the coaches. Art was more important to the staff than he was to the players, so to us he was always needed and appreciated.

The addition of Art Carrington to the SM staff will make a difference to the staff and that makes a difference to the team. In the end, it will give the current SM coaches one thing less to worry about, which will make SM better and that is never a bad thing.

I wish the best of luck to all of the players and coaches for the upcoming season.

  • Anonymous

Loya, what you just wrote made it worse. You confirmed Art was never at practice and all he will help do is keep players and coaches back on the sideline. Nice of you to try to help, but dissapointing you would waste time writing this.

Good Luck to SM and TC and my LC GLADIATORS!

  • Reno Hightower

Max Ruckle is one fine running back. But he ain’t no Johnny O. That boy from Bakersfield could run through you, around, and over you. Old Jonnhy had a full ride to Fresno State after Bakersfield JC. Too bad he got caught with the university president’s daughter in Coach Sweeney’s Oldsmobile out in the boonies. About Max Ruckle, he most certainly would get the rock 20-25 times a game in the previous scheme. With this new fangled spread whatchamacallit, I don’t how he gets the ball that much. Unless, of course, they put him in that Mildcat Formation. I’m sure John McKay or John Robinson would put Garret, Simpson, White, Allen (hey!)or Ricky Bell at QB and run that offense. Don’t think so. I’ll give you my two cents on the best QBs next time around.

  • Marti Valdes

Whoever anon is that said Loya’s comment made things worse just doesnt get it. However people want to label Art’s role with our staff at TC and now at SM, Loya’s point was that it was invaluable to us. Art lives quite a distance from this area and works during the day like most people. He was there every Wednesday and Friday night and if he was able to workout his schedule, he’d be there everyday. Art knows & understands the game of football and will give good football advice to those kids willing to listen at SM, as he did during our time together at TC. And people who know the game of football are hard to find, some of the comments made on this blog is perfect evidence of that.

  • 1836

Ruckle has plenty to prove. All seniors coming off great junior years with his ability have much to prove.

TC’s D is very green which means the offense needs to control the clock…one thing Coach Loya understood about the 08 team.

Anonymous, you sound like a guy who has zero coaching experience. You obliviously do not understand the importance of a mentor to an athletic program. SM added a first class man and the best damn get-back coach in the SGV. Good Luck Titans.

  • JFMatador

Notice how many comments made on this football thread…wow.

  • Anonymous

COACH LOYA DID NOT UNDERSTAND CONTROLLING THE CLOCK LAST YEAR! PLEASE STOP TRYING TO GIVE THE MAN CREDIT OR MAKE IT SEEM AS IF HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING AND THE TALENT RUCKLE WAS. TC WAS PASSING 70% of the GAME AND LOYA WAS THE FIRST TO PUT RUCKLE AT WR. IT TOOK AND INJURY TO GIVE A RUCKLE A CHANCE. HIGHTOWER MCKAY AND ROBINSON WOULD HAVE BEEN SMART TO RUN THE MILDCAT BACK THEN. THOSE COACHES ARE SCARED TO THINK OUT OF THE BOX.

  • New York

McKay’s success at USC suggests Student Body Right and Left out of the I was the smart thing to do with his personel.

By the way, great programs tend to be run like most great organizations where people have jobs and they do their jobs well. I can’t believe how dismissive people are regarding sideline control. You should be happy that a guy took pride in doing the job that some of you brush off as unimportant. Those people who do the thankless tasks are usually never noticed until something goes wrong. Was he considered “old school” because he did not Tweet instructions to the players?

  • The Stang Fan

Nothing is more of a bore than juvenile bashing of a volunteer. Have fun at SM Mr. Arrington.

Back to more engaging and entertaining matters….

Let me toss out some questions regarding pre-season matchups:

Which one will be the most exciting?

Which one would you pay the most to see?

Which one will be the biggest blowout?

Which one will be the biggest upset/shocker?

Which one showcases the best individual talent?

Which one will be the most boring game?

I’m sure there are more questons out there. We’ll see what you think!

  • #1 Bruin

MM, you may be interested to know that in addition to Todd Golper from AHS, your Bruins also list 2 other area kids as incoming freshman. One is David Allen who is a transfer from Tulane and a former South Pas player (he’s listed as a RS FR). I’m not familiar with the other player but apparently Pas. Poly has a kicker (Eric Chalifour) joining the team as a FR.

  • 1836

I dont usually name call or take sides but Anonymous youre an idiot. So that you better understand, I have included exactly what I mean. This will better illustrate how wrong you are regarding your opinions on Mr. Loya.

    1. Definition: an utterly foolish or senseless person.

    2. In Psychology: a person of the lowest order in a former classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.

    3. Synonyms: fool, half-wit; imbecile; dolt, dunce, numskull.

Fortunately Anon, this affliction can be treated by simply pulling your head from your ass or by merely keeping it there so that what comes out of your hole will be muzzled by the other one.

  • Rams09

Takes a lot of balls to be anon, anon. Don’t discredit Loya and for that part Valdes for what they’ve done for TC this year… If it wasn’t for Loya’s out of the box play calling in the last league match vs. LC, we might not have gone to the playoffs and had the run we had. Enjoy your time off Coach Loya

  • Goldenarm

    This was my post…………
    TC FANS,

Art Carrington is the latest addition to the San Marino Titans football staff.

I can almost hear the unending sideline lectures from here.

…….I guess for those who want to tweak it – it can be made to sound like an insult. It was not, obviously. It was just an observer’s view of Coach Carrington laying down his law along the sideline.

Obviously, there are some agendas out there. I’ll just say that the process of one coaching staff out and one coaching staff in – always, always has some degree of bitterness lingering somewhere.

I hold in the highest regard those coaches who led our team to the CIF semi’s last year. How the offense and play calling strategy evolved, run versus pass, who made what decisions, Ruckle’s role….why bother rehashing things in a negative slant? We are 40 days out from a new season.

  • Goldenarm

    Viking Fans,

What is up with the 300lb average offensive line at Blair??

Can anybody at Blair tell me if Kelvin is still in the line up? That kid was 6’2 240 in kindergarden…and a good student too. Not sure what position he is playing.

  • Goldenarm

It would not be surprising if the San Marino Titans win the RHL this year.
Calpreps has them # 2 behind Monrovia.

From Mooney’s MVN interview, the man seems impatient and hungrier than usual. I believe the league opener has SM and Monrovia matched up….going on memory. Heavy first game that could mean everything as the weeks progress. Yortsos should explode this year and has plenty of solid teammates around him.

A lot has been said regarding TC’s offense, and who is going to be utilized where. The only thing I see as relevant are the words from Coach White…”we will have a balanced attack”….and secondly, “this will not be a rebuilding year”.
    Go Rams.

Goldenarm: As little as it’s talked about I truly believe that Monrovia is harvesting a much better team than last years team. Last year Monrovia was caught up in off campus disturbances that cause a lot of panic from concerned parents and had to make some tough choices to leave the school district. This year there are several players who are truly competing for positions on the offense and I wouldn’t be surprised if it all comes together for them allot sooner than later this season. Monrovia will have a very strong athletic line this year and a tenacious offense and defense that could spell success. No runaways this year as compared to last and the Incoming JV & Freshman’s combined schedule is 18-2 I see success written all over this years team. Not to take away from what MM can do with his boys but I don’t think It will come down to who has the ball last. My prediction still pits TC & Monrovia at the end of the day. But I will keep an open mind, many things have changed this year and even South Pas has an opportunity to turn some heads this season.

look for sf to bounce back this year after a down two years and here is why….

    1. sf now has a passing attack which includes stud sophmore travis talianko, transfer from arroyo ian hamilton, senior matt laing as well as others. Travis and Ian are 6′ 1″ and 6′ 3″ respectively
    2. They still have the best player dietrich riley to come out of the area in quite some time, not only will he line up at rb, he will also line up at wr and slot making the passing attack THAT much better
    3. Last time i checked they return all league first team chris cabrera at middle lb, he recorded 100+ tackles last year in a very talented defense which included rian younker and dietrich riley.
    4. sf has a good qb in justin pothsuma who unlike qbs of the past isnt afraid to pass the ball, also he is one of the most underated qbs in the area who can also tuck the ball and run for major yards
    5. the sf o line has size….starting with “crunch” carrol who is 6’5″ 280lbs, kriston grbivac 6’2″, overall the line has 6’5″, 6’2″, 6’2″ 6’0″, 6″1″ linemen across the board and they r 7-8 deep at OL

those were five of the many reasons that sf will bounce back this year. Watch out for sf this year.

I think we must qualify the statement “very tough schedule,” because those games are FAR FROM a very tough schedule.

Good games. Sure. Even matchups. Why not. “Very tough schedule?” Not even close…

  • New York

    Goldenarm and Stang Fan,

I agree with you both with respect to the need to be aware regarding the effect that fatigue will have on a player’s performance. That is approaching the dilema of going both ways or helping on special teams strategically.

What I object to is coaching out of fear that a player gets injured due to a big hit. I mean, if you think your QB is made out of glass then you would tell him not to ever run down field and make plays.

Fatigue does make players more prone to injury and that is why conditioning is so important. Waiting until big games to have a kid play both ways does not allow him to get into game shape to go both ways.

I readily acknowledge that the QB position is typically pretty special relative to the rest of the team. I think Bill Walsh was quoted as saying that the QB is the most important position. However, I think the decision to let your QB play other positions should ultimately hinge on what type of athlete the kid is and how sturdy he is as well as what type of value he will add to the other side of the ball while minimally reducing his performance on his primary side of the game.

This M-Town team ought to do what my Taft coaches did when I had to play a little CB. I was always the CB to the Taft sideline, never went to the huddle, and got the signal from the DC or relayed to me. I was always in communication with our offensive coaches for the next series. We beat Clovis West that way. I threw the go ahead score with a buck thirty left and intercepted one with thirty seconds left. What, did you want Jack Dundee playing defense?

  • The Stang Fan

    sstress,

That’s unfortunate. I too have heard that some kids aren’t returning, which makes a poor situation worse. I understand you being optimistic, but the reality is, Blair will probably do worse this year…especically considering the apparent parity in the RHL this year.

It’s gonna get UGLY, and FAST, in that St. Margaret’s game.

Special Teams coach wants Bueno to return kicks, but Coach Maddox is a little nervous about the idea. However, they might have a pretty good Plan B in Deshawn Ramirez or even OJ Bouligny.

  • M-town dad

CatsFan, It’s probably a good idea to keep Nick as fresh as possible for offense since he is going to be running alot more in the new scheme. They can also use Dujawn Jones and Craig Brown along with Ramirez and Bouligny to return kicks/punts.

  • !stang!

Bboooyyaa, how do you think AHS would do in pacific league ?

  • The Stang Fan

    !stang!

I’ll answer that. This year, they would get the last playoff spot at #4. Other years? 5th or 6th place.

They can not beat Muir, Burroughs, and sweep both Arcadia and CV in a sinlge year. Period. They would also have serious trouble with a good PHS team (like the one two years ago) and Burbank. Remember…this IS a school that lost to Glendale last year (who hasn’t seen the playoffs in YEARS). As much of a turnaround as the Nitros had last year, Alhambra still had much more talent and should not have lost that game…let alone giving up over 40 points!

I’m sure Coach Ruedaflores and his staff are QUITE happy to be playing in the Almont. I know the Pacific is FAR FROM being a tough league, but lest we forget, the Moors didn’t even make the playoffs in the Almont last year.

But hey, that’s just my two cents bro…..

  • SgvUlumni

    Stang,

    I’ll answer that question also
actually not a question a statement
AHS can beat any team in the PACIFIC league THIS year!
In the past 10 years they’ve been in the play-off’s at least 8x…
Last year was last year STANGFAN
This years a whole new season.
Aside from Muir I’ve seen every single team you’ve mentioned this summer and I wasn’t impressed @ all.
But hey that’s just my opinion…
All this talk will end quickly soon as the pads come on.

  • SgvUlumni

oh my bad StangFan actually I saw Pasadena this summer and was impressed by the athletes I saw…
It will be interesting to see how they do with their new head coach.

  • anonymous

as a highschool football spectator of the pacific league, i honestly think alhambra would come in 5 or 6 at best in the pacific league behind muir, burroughs, cv, arcadia, burbank, and maybe pasadena

  • !stang!

Stang Fan, lol ( I was thinking the samthing) but have you heard any new news about the 2010 stangs? I saw the field last week, it looks good.

  • viking dad

Stress, my son is on that BLAIR team. I dare not transfer because, his grades are above average, coaches have visited my son on campus. YES, Recruited at BLAIR.. The academic curriculum challenges the student and since he has put in the work in the classroom, during the off season and camps its paying off(HOPEFULY). My point is this, we don’t have alot of kids out their right know, but those that have put the time in it will show. Stress it can’t get worse than last year..I hope they are not leaving for a PUSD School because if its not marshall we will know its not about academics.

  • !stang!

Sgv, what happen against glendale last year? Glendale came in 5th , AHS allowed 30+ points that says a lot.

  • The Stang Fan

    SgvUlumni,

You made the most sense with the last sentence you wrote…and that’s the key. Pads.

The other teams looked terrible this summer? Well, so does Long Beach Poly every summer. At least compared to how they play when the pads come on. We’ve discussed this topic ad nauseaum though, so I’ll just dismiss that comment altogether.

Alhambra can not beat Muir or Burroughs. It’s just not gonna happen. This year, last year, next year, name a year. You don’t want to bring up last year? I get that…it’s a new season. However, giving up over 40 to Glendale AND not making the playoffs in the (F)Almont league is kind of hard to ignore. But, again, you’re right…it’s a new season.

I hope that Alhambra does well this year, I really do. They should definitely win the (F)Almont this year, but don’t mistake that for success in the Pacific League.

  • The Stang Fan

    viking dad,

So how exactly would you like me to shred your ridiculous, foolhardy, ignorant, “plain ol” dumb-ass post. Hard and fast…or brutal and slow?

  • papa d

ITs safe to say that sf and Muir are gunna be one and two in the area for a while and even if tc or ahs or arcadia or any other school in this area thinks that they r up in the ranks with those two teams..they r not. sf and muir is one big step ahead of these teams because they play way better competition and they do better against stronger teams. sf played crespi and amat last year and they have loyola and notre dame this year, muir has played some serious teams in the past two plus they open up against st. margets week one. so please stop talking about how alhambra and monrovia are the best teams ever and just look at their schedules…..teams who play against better competition become better.

    sf/ muir= #1-#2

  • SgvUlumni

    Stangfan,

Your right about hard to forget last year and 40pts.
It’s even harder to forget about the team MM predicted
to go all the way goes 1 and done!OOOCH
Especially w/ all that TALENT it’s very hard to believe.
This year I predict Arcadia to upset Muir and I hope we can meet a Pacific league in play-off’s to end all this TALK!
Last year we couldn’t of beat Muir, hell we couldn’t even
    make the play-off’s right!
This year yes we could beat Muir, Burroughs, CV,
    whoever we face,PERIOD!
And since when does Long Beach poly look terrible?
and I no your not comparing MUIR to the Jackrabbit’s?
    We won’t go there…

  • New York

Papa johns, go get me a pizza.
I mean papa d, you use a straw man better than most politicians trying to sell the policy of the month. Who ever mentioned Monrovia as the top team, much less the “best team ever?” Most people mistake BLAIR, the team playing St Maggies’ and Muir all the time, just as we mistake Oaks Christian, the team Muir plays, with St Maggies…..oh boy.

St Francis and Muir may very well be the best TWO teams this year, even though your logic is flawed. Beating tough teams proves that you are good. Losing to tough teams proves that you schedule tough teams. How about showing some guts and making a call on which team is #1??? Stop hedging by picking these TWO! Which ONE is it?

Oh yeah, I’ll take extra garlic knots delivered to my spot at the Monrovia game, papa john.

  • the real hsfbfan

    LOL at NY comments

  • curiousgoerge

    poppa d,

I’ll pass on the pizza but nobody over here at AHS is saying we are the BEST TEAM ever.
We are excited about this season and how much good talent we have hopefully to do well.
I agree w/ NY stop being a sissy and pick SF#1 over Muir#2
that’s what MM will have em’ at.

  • Just Wanna Know

Why does Blair have or more many D-1 signees (Smith @ Utah, LB @ Was. St.) as other area schools? That college cooridinator at TC/PHS/Muir/Arc better get his act together or everyone is JC bound again!

  • Apache Joe

the real hsfbfan is back in action!

  • PasadenaAtHEart

Justin Posthuma is the best quarterback around. He was robbed of playing time last year, and still managed to perform well in his limited opportunity. He also picked up Special teams player of the year, and was awarded hit of the week TWICE. How many quarterbacks can do you know that can do that? He also could start at safety and is clearly the superior Free Safety to any others. He doesnt have blazing speed, but is a better runner than he gets credit for. Watch him put up major stats this year and please dont be surprised.

  • The Stang Fan

Now this is more like it! The closer we get…the testier we become. I love it! I’d hate to go “baseball analogy” here, but can somebody please cue “Hells Bells” so I can go Trevor Hofmann on that a$$! It’s time to shut some sh** down. Batter up!

    SgvUlumni,

You just couldn’t resist could you. Now let me “ul”uminate some things to you.

    A. Yes, Muir lost in the first-round to an eventual CIF Finalist in Diamond Ranch (who was just as talented w/ 5 D-1 signees), who beat a couple of more good teams along the way. We choked…no other way around it in my book! HOWEVER, to claim that that loss is a lot harder to forget than an absolute PUMMELING by a PERENNIAL POWDER-PUFF like Glendale is reprehensible! Over 40 points?!?! LMAO!!! Are you kidding me? To the NITROS?!?!?! OUCH!!! Muir hasn’t given up over 40 points COMBINED to Glendale throughout the ENTIRE 2000′s! If it wasn’t so sad it’d be HILARIOUS. Well, come to think of it, it actually is pretty damn funny.

    B. YOU, predict that Arcadia will beat Muir for the PL crown? Please tell me you know something that even Apache fans/insiders don’t know. All they’ve been saying all summer is how they are improving and heading in the right direction, but that they are not yet ready to compete with Muir or Burroughs. Not to mention that Muir has outscored Arcadia 104-28 over the last two years….oh, but this is a new season, right?

    C. I too hope that you guys play a PL team in the playoffs! While Muir and Burroughs did choke in the playoffs, they didn’t have the luxury of playing any of the Almont teams. The PL did pull out two victories however. How did the Almont fare? Oh, thats right…OH-FER!!! Maybe because they too didn’t get to play any Almont teams. By the way, let’s not forget the Almont coaches PLEADING with CIF to NOT be placed in the Southeast Division last year.

    D. You’re damn right you couldn’t have beaten Muir last year…hell, the only PL team you would have beaten was Hoover.

    E. And you couldn’t beat Muir this year. Do not mistake us for Roosevelt, LC, Wilson, etc. Totally different game bro. Everyone knows about our team speed and athleticism, but this year our line is leading the charge….yeah…I know…scary right? Oh, and it gets worse (or shall I say better?) next year, being that the majority of the team is made up of underclassmen.

    F. This year you could beat “whoever” you face? LMAO!!! Uhhhhhh…no response needed.

    G. Reread the comment about Poly bro. I said that they always look terrible in the summer COMPARED TO how they play in the fall. Poly has NEVER won a passing league tournament, but we all know what they do when the pads come on. So your comment about how the PL teams fared this summer holds no weight, because with pads Muir, Burroughs, and CV/Arcadia would dominate you guys.

    H. And I KNOW you’re not trying to compare MUIR to Alhambra! As you mentioned….”we WON”T go there!”

    Strike 8. One down. NEXT!

    viking dad,

    A. I’m sorry to hear that…you know, about your son playing at Blair. There is a bright side though, just remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

    B. You dare not transfer him because “his grades are above average?” What?!?! So you mean to tell me that you would transfer him if his grades WERE below average? Or, that there is no way he would continue getting good grades if he were to transfer? Really? And technically speaking, a 2.01 is “above average,” correct?

    C. Coaches have visited your son on campus? Good for him! And next time Coach Kuk comes, tell him it’s good to see PCC recruiting in ‘Dena again!

    D. The “academic curriculum challenges the student?” Uhhh, correct me if I’m wrong here, but doesn’t the entire PUSD share the same curriculum? Why else have district pacing-guides for each subject? And don’t all of the teachers have to pass the same tests and take the same general classes in order to get their credentials? Oh, you’re talking about IB program, right? The same IB program that Supt. Diaz is trying to eliminate because it is such a FARCE! So much so, that only TWO people graduated with IB honors in the past few years! Oh…that curriculum, right? Too funny….

    E. Yes…you DON’T have a lot of kids out there. Sticking with the baseball theme….isn’t that just “Blair being Blair?”

    F. OHHHHHH….it can CERTAINLY be worse than last year my friend! And looking at the RHL…it probably will.

    G. The clincher. You maintain that if kids transfer to PHS or Muir, and not Marshall, that you will know it is not about the academics. Ignorance…straight ingorance, I tell ya! First of all, schools are judged academically by how they do on their API scores. Here’s the order from the past few years: 1. Pasadena 2. Marshall 3. Blair 4. Muir. Secondly, all of the schools aren’t THAT far apart…ESPECIALLY Muir and Blair. So, explain to me exactly why you think Blair and Marshall are even remotely better academically than PHS and Muir. And don’t give me that “Marshall made the Newsweek list” crap! That joke-of-a-list has Marshall ahead of Arcadia, San Marino, La Canada, etc. and those schools DESTROY Marshall’s API score!

Strike 7! Two down. Next batter!

Just Wanna know (a.k.a. Easy Out),

    A. Blair has “many” D-1 signees? You’ve gotta be sh***ing me, right? Since when? Sean Smith graduated in 2005! And who in the hell from Blair plays at Wazzou? Btw, I didn’t know that “TC/PHS/Muir/Arc” shared a recruiting coordinator. If so, he’s not doing too bad considering since 2005 those schools have combined to get kids out to UCLA (Golper-Arcadia), OSU (Mitchell-Muir), NMSU (Thomas-Muir), Idaho (Graves-Muir), Stony Brook (Campbell-Muir, Mills-Muir), Cincinatti (Binns-PHS), Hawaii (Alexander-PHS), ASU (Njunge-PHS), Toledo (Roby-Muir), Wisconsin (Garner-Muir), Portland State (Gowan-Arcadia). But yeah, I guess you’re right….Blair’s “recruiting coordinator” is doing a GREAT JOB compared to the others!

Strik one (yeah, I just need one pitch to get that turd out)….GAME OVER!

P.S. Sorry…but you guys KNOW I’m good for one of these “novels” around this time of year!

  • The Lancer

Man you know it is getting close to the season when people are talking crap to The Stang Fan and GA…is anyone else excited.

  • Nervo

Speaking of recruiting, does anybody find it interesting that the last temple city player to get a scholarship to a D-I school was Desmond Reed. That’s right, 7 years of contention (3 league titles, I believe 4/5 quarterfinal appearances) without a single D-I prospect (grades have hampered the long shot dreams of maybe 3…). That speaks for itself about the chemistry and commitment of TC players…

  • Goldenarm

    Nervo

Knock on wood my friend – because we have no marquee superstar again this year.

Last year the Rams did a great job on special teams across the board defensively. No TD’s on punts or kickoffs. We recovered many more fumbles than we gave and we tackled well. We gagged a few field goals and it cost us dearly against Monrovia…but ended the season with a 42 yarder against the Clete. A thing of beauty in the 1st half, with TC playing like hope was there. By quarter 3 it was no longer there. Overall, for the season, we had too many holding and some motion penalties…but we were not penalized into submission. Those are some of the “good” things that got us wins last year.

My point is, we will need similar this year to be successful. We don’t have a scary kickoff returner or a Todd Golper monster-hitter at linebacker. We are young and we don’t run 6 power any more.

Time is near to see what the new Temple City Rams are all about.

  • Goldenarm

    Stang Fan,

Damn….did you suit up and type that with your mouthpiece in?? I hope you are conditioned to go an entire season – because at that pace your gonna need the CPR paddles for the 2nd half. As they say in the Old West…bury em where they stand!

    Lancer,

Yes, the crock level is rising.

    sstress,

The reason I ask about the O-line is because not long ago Miguel interviewed Parks and HE STATED there was size and depth at those positions. I know your nose tackle last year was 300 plus (#74). My question is “what happened to these bodies Parks was speaking of?? Did they leave the team?

  • Goldenarm

    Some RHL predictions……

    San Marino
    Yortsos taking direct snaps
    pulling, trapping, smart line play
    stunts aplenty on D

    Monrovia
a “new” running back to fear
quick slants and swings – just get em da ball!
    kicking game??

    TC
some big hits on defense, enemy quarterback short on time
    who has got the hands?

    Blair
    they can score
    they can’t stop

    La Canada
Change — A fundamental and physical offense that runs right at you and passes when need be. In Yoder’s words “ball control like TC”
Defense- stacked linebackers with in/out gap movement on the line…..
their best team in several years.

    So Pas
short passes, delay runs, more short passes, and another short pass followed by a short pass.
Defense- this year, more about attack, less about protect

  • BigFatFan

As for South Pas: with Steven Colliau gone, the Tigers will be breaking in some new receivers. someone has to step up as none of the new candidates were starters last season. One potential bright spot is junior Matt Nelson, the kid has hops as he was a varsity high jumper last year, and has starred for two seasons on the frosh and JV team. at running back we have couple options, Howard Serrian a senior will get plenty of chances to run with the ball and make catches out of the backfield or in the slot receiver postion. I liken him to Ruckle at TC, fast and crafty. Bednarski the QB has been working hard this off season and we should see improvement on pass selection and hopefully some running. Offensive line play should be much improved since we are returning a few starters (center, tackle and guard).

Defensive line will be returning several starters, however the LB core and the DBs will be newbies. Last season, our DBs were continually burned badly. One key for this season will be overall conditioning of the defense. for those of you that saw any games last year, SP would usually play a very tough first half against most of the opponents, then collapse in the second half. Part of that had to do with lack of offense in the red zone, D was on the field too much. But also, the D was just not in good enough shape to play the entire game. consequently, we usually got our butts kicked in the second halfs. Look for that to change this season.

  • sstress

    GA and Stang Fan,

OWWWWW. BRUTAL, but unfortunately I agree with your statementsits all true.

Yeah, when coach parks described the team last year it really was like that. We had a decent line (and horrible QB, as a matter of fact I still dont think they have one), but then Blair lost all their games (with the exception of SP) and players started dropping like flies. Soooo many kids are not returning and not all of them are leaving, they are just OUT RIGHT refusing to play for Blair.

  • Hal Lamaster

    The Stang Fan-
    You are in mid-season form.

  • Goldenarm

    sstress,

    here is the quote:
Gary Parks: (Laughs) … We need to find out where our program is early. We’re returning eight lineman, our front is going to be averaging 6-foot-2, 275 pounds so we want to see what we’re doing early”.

    Sounded pretty positive.
275 avg I would say is a respectable size O-line in the RHL…or most anywhere in the SGV, and would be a great foundation for the Vikings to start with. It blows my mind that this apparently has been allowed to crumble away or somehow is no longer the scenario at Blair. From the Stang Fan and others – they just don’t seem seem surprised. I am….because so many voices were talking improvement and “building” the program.

That was why I was trying to get some perspective on what had changed. Parks had major optimism in his rap.

  • SgvUlumni

    Stangfan,

    How many Starbuck’s you on?
I know Muir is the greatest team since sliced bread,
but your bark will have a weaker bite this year.
Let’s keep it real, Muir won’t be the same team this year.
I’m sure they will be good but nobody is shaking in there boats to take on your Mustang’s.
For some strange reason that is what you think.
Let’s face the fact’s Muir lacks LINEMAN!
Roosevelt, TC, AHS, all have better guy’s up front this year and AHS combined’s both w/ a great skilled group.
That’s the only reason STANGS lose,LINEMAN!!!
I will light a candle and PRAY to our H.S. football GOD”S
that we play MUIR in the the play-off’s!
And to be quite honest if Pasadena had a QB I would pick them in the TUSSLE this year cause they have LINEMAN!!!
    I LOVE ME SOME STARBUCKS

  • !Stang!

Sgv, muir has a line this year! 3 returners from last year averaging 260lbs. And a new. Big guy who seems to fit right in( he is a transfer). Let’s Go Stang Nation!

  • The Stang Fan

    !stang!

No need to explain bro. The fact that the line will be Muir’s strength this year has been repeated time and again on here and in the paper….and not just by me.

    SgvUlumni,

Muir has no hogs this year? Okay. You’re right. I don’t know what I was thinking. My bad. I guess everyone else who has mentioned Muir’s strong line this year was just hallucinating…including the head coach.

Never did I say that Muir was the best program in the world…not by far…they’re just WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY better than Alhambra. What game does EVERYONE want to see? Muir/SF. NOT Muir/Alhambra. There’s a reason for that. So I’ll do you a favor and blowout that candle, because Ruedaflores is gonna come after you with a spiked cane if that matchup comes to fruition. And since you love Starbucks so much…go ahead and by a gallon of their finest if we do end up playing you guys because it’s going to be a looooooong night for those poor Moors.

  • Ex-Moor

STANGMAN oops I mean STANGFAN oops I mean
AKA the President of the PACIFIC league!LOL
I played for AHS before this weak Almont your talking
smack about maybe it is but when I played
we were in the Foothill League with BURROUGHS,BURBANK,and
    HART H.S. etc…
Only team we ever lost to was Hart so when you brag about
these teams and how AHS can’t play with these teams makes no sense to me at all to me.
Muir is always talented and always a respectable team
but is they were as AWSOME as your BLOGGING ability
    they’de win CIF every year!LOL

  • sfhs92

A couple notes about SF. I heard that Posthuma is not going to be the QB this year. Word is that the transfer from Loyola is going to start with Bonds’ son being the back up, also Riley at #111 on espn 150.

  • blogger!!

    stangfan!!

why bother comparing your program with alhambras!!
alhambra has a couple of +500 seasons and all of a sudden they can start comparing how great they are…..i would want to see that program do it year in and year out!!

  • PAC

    Ex-Moor,

That version of the foothill league hasn’t been around since the 80′s. Stop living in the past.

  • All-CIF

First of all the last time AHS and Ruedaflores
played against any Pacific league team was against PHS.
He’s so Old school he probably don’t mess with reading these cyber blog’s were all these hater’s brag about their teams so let me join the fun.
I will repeat this again, the first and only PACIFIC league team coach Rudy played was PHS @ Moor field.
They had a pretty good squad I guess, they only had lil player’s like CHRIS McCALLISTER, LESTER TOWNS, you know lil guy’s like that.
Oh yeah I played on that team for that POOR program for four year’s, FS/WR 1st Team All-CIF two years including that year, and guess what STANG whatever they call you,
he coached us every day of our lives to shove that SPIKED CANE up any team’s ASS whomever and WHENEVER homie!
My team beat that PHS team, who I know for a fact this 2009 team aren’t nowhere near the team you hollering about with your WAAAAAAAAY theory you need to kick rocks with that one. That man was like a father to myself and all our team, every team he step’s on the field with, WIN or LOSE, you feel me.
Matter a fact the squad for 2009 has more talent than we ever did so don’t be expecting any LOOOOOONG night
if they do meet up with your unbelievable STANGS
It would be a war TRUST!

  • Anonymous

how would RHL teams fair in the pacific league?
    monrovia,tc,rosemead, etc?

  • !stang!

Ahs recently played glendale! And many of those same kids are returning this year including Crockum! I can’t wait until pads!

  • Nitros

Alhambra claims to be a great team but why did they get handled by glendale last year?

  • curiousgoerge

Glendale dropped us this year I wonder why?
You would think they could repeat last year right?
    NOT!
past 15 yrs I think the series is like 13-2
Please guy’s let’s talk about this season 2009!
And AHS has potential to be a great team this year that’s all were saying NITRO, potential.
    Only time will tell.
hopefully losing them Eagle Rock coaches doesn’t ruin your guy’s improvement!

  • The Stang Fan

Alright. I’m done. Obviously all of these Alhambra posts are coming from one guy. I’m sure the other Moor fans are sane folks who think well of their team and would enjoy seeing their boys compete and play hard to win back the Almont. Good luck to them all!

A quick side note. The regular bloggers know me pretty well. They know that I do not tout Muir to be one of Socal’s finest. Unfortunately, we haven’t been there since the late 90′s. I do, however, consider the Stangs to be in the upper echelon of the SGV. You can agree or disagree, but I truly feel that is true. The season is right around the corner, and like everyone else, my optimism is running pretty high. I’m excited for the season and can not WAIT until Sept. 4!

    LET’S GO STANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • !stang!

    games to watch
    9/17 SG vs Burbank
    9/11 schurr vs Burroughs

Burbank and burroughs are two solid teams in PL.Schurr and SG are the top teams in almont L…. this we be a good look at potenial playoff match ups.
    Stang Nation !

  • scoreboard

top five teams going into fall ball…..

    1. sf
    2. muir
    3. monrovia
    4. alhambra
    5. not sure who goes fifth………

anyone think maranatha is gunna be better with that new qb……..

is bueno that good of a player?

anone here bout he new sf transfers?

  • JFMatador

I can’t wait for week one AHS and SG better handle those LA teams.

  • Goldenarm

    Stang Fan,

The same one guy was here last season.

Come out with heavy chest pounding, say “BEAT YOU BY 3TD’S…then when his prediction was 100% wrong, he would either disappear or change to a series of other names to identify himself….and go back to yelling about the Moors and how they would destroy Monrovia or this team or that team.

What have you heard about Diamond Ranch’s team this year??

  • !vstang!

Ga , I have heard DR has a div 1 Linemen. He has the size and speed. That’s about it, but. They always will be a solid team.

  • Glendale Athletics

curiousgoerge, time to get your facts straight!

It was ALHAMBRA officials who called Glendale and told them that they no longer wanted to play.

Alhambra’s AD Lou Torres will be able to confirm this because he was the guy who made that call.

  • Goldenarm

The Stang linemen looked good at the Arroyo Lineman challenge. The “standings” of how schools finished is really not important, alot had to do with group 1, group 2, overall scores, etc. Within each school there were standouts, of course.
A couple of the Stang kids were “large and agile”
I watched Muir at the obstacle course and saw a little of them in the lifting competition. If this group comes together…it could make a huge difference in how Muir does this year. It looked like a vet/rookie mix – which is even more encouraging.
I figured the Stangs might win the 4×100 linemen relay…which by the way, is entertainment in itself, with lineman passing the baton to one another. This should be a regular onece a week challenge for lineman…great team building!

  • muir 2011

We were missing like 4 linemen at the Arroyo thing too. Really good ones too. Trench Mob baby!

  • M-town dad

scoreboard: Just some info on Bueno, who is a great all around athlete. He was MVP on his freshman football and baseball teams ( both were league champs ). He was offensive MVP on varsity football team as a sophomore. He was co-MVP on varsity baseball team as a sophomore. Both teams were league champs. He was all area on baseball this past season. By the way, he would be the starting point guard on the basketball team if his parents would let him play.

  • anonymous

nick bueno is so overrated! yes he is a good athlete but he is not anything special. just a decent highschool player

  • Anonymous 2

anonymous: Make your assessment on Bueno after you see him play this season. Until then, try not to be critical on any high school player since the season hasn’t even started yet. I’m sure it’s possible that players can improve during the off season. Plus from what I saw last season, he was pretty special player especially considering that he was only a sophomore.

  • M-town dad

anonymous: It’s obvious that you haven’t seen Nick play in person or you are just being a jacka$$. People here in Monrovia marvel at this kids talents, especially for his size.

  • CatsFan

Bueno is a great player alright, but he won’t be a one man show. You will be hearing these names as well. 1.Ramirez, 2.Brown, 3.Bubba Johnson, 4.Bouligny, 5.Henderson, 6.Williams, 7.Trujillo and many more

  • Observantcat

    Thanks Cat Fan:

Not to mention a wealth of talent coming in this year. This Freshmen class has many up and coming superstars to boot that will be fierce competitors for the future. That is why some on this blog will always remain anonymous because they just dont know!

  • Goldenarm

    O-cat

A new load of talent at Monrovia?
You mention this as something new??

The “new” part is (….at least I believe)is we are seeing the first stages of a big cutback in player bailouts to “other” schools from the fertile ground of Monrovia. It will never “end” but it will see dropoff I believe, as Maddox widens his footprint on the program.

Things are lookin so bright in Monrovia – you gotta wear shades.

  • Observantcat

    GA:

I love the placement of Coach Maddox, but the unmentioned success of our program really starts at the freshman level. It seems to become the recruiting ground for teams all around the area. I like the coaches at the freshman level who are putting together teams that are buying into the word TEAMMATES. I happen to personally know quite a few of the kids and their potential. The last time I felt this good about the incoming class was three years ago. Without mentioning any names I feel that there are at least 4-5 strong D-1 potential players in 4 years on that team. Hopefully they will all stick together and compete on a higher level throughout the entire LA/OC/IE area. I think they could hang.

  • Goldenarm

    O-cat

TC’s senior class right now won one game as freshmen.
Mtown beat us 43-0 and Mission Viejo beat us 62-0. I threw my binoc’s in the trash that year – and bought another pair around springball time. The first pair of binocs had a horror film replaying in them game after game, week after week. It was a tough season to play through.

As sophomores, that same basic group sprung back, and were RHL co-champs with Monrovia. Probably the best JV game I’ve ever seen – a 7-6 TC victory over M-town at Monrovia, a total war that clinched the tie for the title.

Last year as juniors, that group joined Coach Backus varsity squad…and after some initial bickering and bs, managed to mold well with the senior returnees and had a great season. As I’ve said before, Ruckle has been running behind basically the same line for 3 years now. He knows the guys in front of him.

This year as seniors – well that story is yet to be told. Coaching will be a HUGE FACTOR. So far, this set of binoculars is working well….BUT I’ve got a C note stashed on hold – just in case I need to buy a new pair in a hurry.

  • curiousgoerge

    Glendale athletic’s,

Oh my bad thank’s for the fact’s.
I’m glad it worked out either way whomever made the call.
L.A. Roosevelt will be a big change of pace and a huge week 0 challenge for the Moors.

  • SgvUlumni

    GA,

Our first week 0 game is not LC it’s L.A. Roosevelt.
Aside from TC’s O-line, they are just as loaded they are huge upfront. They got one kid OT got an offer from USC.
That will be one of our toughest task aside from you guys all regular season. Them kid’s over in boyle hts. play
w/ a lil different attitude both physically and mentally.
We will surely get a good glimpse on AHS potential even if it’s barely week 1.

  • Goldenarm

    SGVUlumni,

I’m guessing your reply was to curiousgeorge, not me.

Is there a message hidden in the U of Ulumni, versus Alumni?

Is your softball coach Mando still with the Moors? He is a good dude.

  • MOORS!

    STANG FAN:

your absolutely right, for the most part us MOOR fans are sane. all we want, as you mentioned, is for our boys to do great and bring back the title. excuse all the moor fanatics blog postings, but we are all excited for the season to start with so much talent we have. its been quite some time since we’ve had such talent. i believe as the moor alumn posted bofore, the last time there was this much talent was exactly the year we played pasadena when they had those two players that went on to have successful nfl careers. in which i do recall one of the dominate campos twins taking CHRIS McCALLISTER out of the game in the first half or so. bottom line though, alhambra always seems to have talent as well as muir but cant get out of that c.i.f. 1 and done slump. hopefully this will be the year where both teams make it far. and maybe even meet each other. good luck this season stangs! good luck T.C.! and GOOD LUCK MOORS! BRING THAT ALMONT TITLE BACK!

What’s up goldenarm, I don’t want to pull the trigger to quick, but this will be a very exciting season coming up. Just like to start with the Arcadia game, week 0 @ the Cats House should set the pAce for the rest of the season. I believe we have the personel to make a statment and let the Rams devour the rest of the Apache cartcus after we dragg them from the cave. Week two MD Classic, too bad the D will be missing in this long awaited rivalwry at least the D in Duarte. That no comment. Week 3…. Ahh Rosemead!!! All I will say is “Revenge is mine sayeth the Cats. Week 4 San Dimas. Better have a much better coming into 2009 @ the Cats house and be prepared for the stingiest D you’ve seen in some years. Ok, then there’s LaSalle, still voted niciest and most optimistc fans in the whole San Gabriel Valley, keep focused who knows mAybe the Gods will bestow a little luck Again and you mayreach the playoffs, but against the Cats.., not this year or the next or the next. Then comes league. After lookink carefully at each RHL’s preseasons strengths & weaknesses I will then presentt my overview & post league predictions. So there you have it, my Bold but honest predictions for the Cats Preseason outlook 5-0

  • New York

Monrovia had better play crisp, good football against Arcadia. A huge difference in last year’s game was that Arcadia was organized in game 1 and we were not. That is to be expected when a team with consistent leadership (Arcadia) plays a Week 1 game against a program that went through what we did last year. It took us a few weeks to get settled.

Teams that go undefeated are running smoothly from the beginning. The coaches and players know what they do best and stick to it as they isolate and exploit the opponents weaknesses.

I completely expect things to be different for Monrovia this year from the start.

  • Goldenarm

    O-cat,

Game 1 always turns my stomach to battery acid, because you just don’t know what to expect.

The Apaches gain a very valuable ally in the bald one, Randy Backus. In fact, the entire Arcadia coaching staff is excellent and you know will field a team that is well prepared and fired up to go. They have bodies this year, and so far most of them are not on crutches.
(Lets hope all of our teams stay that way)They may have the best team in years, in fact.

They question in my mind, is “has M-town already turned that corner” or will it be next year or the next, when Monrovia finally fields the team that cannot be stopped, with a defense that can stop anyone.
It is going to happen, others probably disagree, but I can feel it coming. Maddox IS THAT GOOD. Paraclete will not reign over us SGV peasants much longer, and neither will the ESGV, we served notice of that last year!

  • JJIMENEZ

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Ahmadinejad is entirely correct when he states the majoroity of persons although in the globe community believe that 9/11 was an inside job. Listen to his speech at the U.N. word-for-word. He explains actually rationally that it’s as well incredible to trust U.S. defense safeguards in place (NORAD) would have allowed those hijackers to fly towards downtown Manhattan. No doubt this guy knows all about the duty to scramble fighter jets to deal with hijacked planes. On 9/11 U.S. deliberately did not scramble our fighter jets after the hijacked planes.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Thankfully we are a nation that separates the church and state; it’s about time we as People today in america just tell Ahmadinejad to go to hell. As far as the UN, I’d personally favour my tax revenue sent on The Bridge to No Where. At a minimum we’d have something to show for it.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
