…….Star Picks……Now that’s more like it…..

Sorry for the no-post on Monday. On the brighter side, yours truly improved immensely last week, going 12-2. I’m torn this week. No doubt the Rosemead-Monrovia game is the PSN’s Game of the Week, but there is no way to really tell who will win this game. As a result, I’m going to withhold my pick until Friday morning. On one hand, I want to pick Monrovia because they just seem to have more athletes at key positions, including Nick Bueno at quarterback and De’Shawn Ramirez at running back. What makes the Wildcats so attractive this season is their ability to wear down teams with a deep backfield. Yes, Ramirez rushed for 121 yards but it came against a depleted Duarte squad. Still, 121 yards rushing only five carries is pretty damn impressive. Then there’s Rosemead. How can you not pick them after showing they’re still the real deal and the reigning runner-up from last year’s Mid-Valley Division playoffs. For the ninth straight season, Rosemead coach Matt Koffler could have a 1,000-yard rusher. They showed their grit and determination in a “stunning” win over Covina last week, a much tougher opponent than Duarte. You make the call, pick the winner of the Game of the Week. I bet it’s not as easy as it looks. For the record, I have confirmed the Venice-Muir game will be played Thursday, not Friday.

    Mig,
You are upside down on the LS v SM game. Home contest for the Titans and they win 21-7. Additionally, take a leap of faith and post M-town as a winner. As you point out, their personnel group(s) present real match-up problems for any one’s squad this early.

  • burbanksports

    LMAO at Miguel’s picks.

  • Miguel Melendez

burbanksports: See you Thursday, my brotha!

  • Wake up Miguel

    Miguel,

Dude wake up man!!! You are the biggest HOMER in the world! Ur Picks are ridiculous. I am really starting to question your sports crediblity. How do you go about picking ur winners, by how cute their jerseys are? SG is gonna get stomped, Alhambra is going dwn against TC, Muir is gonna get embarrased by Venice, SM way over La Salle.

  • BigFatFan

Miguel, you are betting that Keppel’s long long losing streak will be snapped this weekend?

  • Miguel Melendez

    Doh!

  • curiousgoerge

    Mr. Wake up guy,

SG will not get stomped by Burbank, Alhambra will not go down Friday night, and Muir will get their 1st victory against Venice!

CUTE is not a very manly word there buddy!

  • observantcat

Hey Miguel, You have way too many rocks in your boat: I really dont want you too sink this early in the week.

    La Salle over San Marino?…..
That’s the Biggest rock. San Marino should win going away San Marino by 21

Another Big Rock is Muir/Venice…. The Stangs are in their first trimester of this new birth, give them a chance to hatch, Venice by 15

TC/Alhambra not this year! maybe next… TC runs their way to daylight on friday by 14 or more. Dont be surprised if you see GA wearing a black & white shirt by half time.

Rosemead Monrovia?…. This will be the test to see whether speed really does kill. Monrovia by 14

I know that La Canada still has smoke in their noses, but I still look for them to put away Glendale, maybe they caught the better ashe’s further west.

Change these choices and you will remain afloat by Sat. morning. you still have a chance!! SOS

    Burbanksports,

I love your kid #44 on defense the linebacker. He reminds me of another pacific league backer that played at Arcadia the last 3 years.

He is one hell of a football player. Miguel, watch him.

  • Average Ryder

TC/alhambra- TC, alhambra has a hard time stopping the run, theyll run the same D, TC will expose their weak secondary. say what you will about #1, he was still embarrased at Roosevelt. you can make all the excuses that you want you still have to go out and play!!

Rosemead/monrovia- Monrovia, seen enough of rosemead.

    gabrelino/keppel- Gabby, its keppel!

  • cat fan

    rosemead vs. monrovia
i think its gonna be a tough game for both teams but i look for monrovia to win by 3. nick bueno & deshawn ramirez are going to their yards & the defense will contain joey diaz. if that happens they will be forced to throw the ball against one of the best db’s in the area (dujawn jones) this should be an exciting game to watch

  • Hot Rod

Just Curious… Is Muir playing on Thursday night At Home? That makes no sense to me. Calpreps has them at home on friday. Whats the story?

  • MoneyTalks

Burbank vs. San Gabriel — BURBANK
    Venice at Muir — Venice
Brentwood at Rio Hondo Prep– RIO HONDO PREP
Duarte vs. Pomona at Ganesha — POMONA

    FRIDAY’S GAMES
Rosemead at Monrovia — ROSEMEAD (I am not impressed with monrovia)
Alhambra at Temple City — TC
La Salle at San Marino — SAN MARINO
Pasadena Poly at Marshall, 4 p.m. — POLY
Crescenta Valley at St. Francis, 7:30 p.m. — CV UPSET CITY. They have 25 returners I believe. As well they can put up the points
Hoover at South Pasadena — Hoover if AJ PULE QB is healthy. They are loaded for hoover.
La Caada at Glendale — Glendale
Bosco Tech vs. Gladstone at Citrus College — Bosco Tech
Pasadena at Long Beach Jordan — Pasadena
    Gabrielino at Keppel — Gabby

  • seriously?

    money talks,

25 returners? thats makes no sense my friend. if you’re talking about returning starters, thats ridiculous considering theres 11 on each side of the ball and i know at least a coupe went both ways. if youre not talking about starters, what does it matter if theres 25 returning players? returning players means nothing if they DONT ACTUALLY PLAY. st. francis has at least 25 returning seniors ON the team. big whoop

  • Reno Hightower

Reno is sitting the in the sports book @ Harveys in, of all places, Reno-Nevada! Some games that I wish to wager on this weekend when I’m not on the other side of town.

Take Rosemead over Monrovia-Not impresswed with the Wildcats so far this season.
Take Alhambra over Temple City-Moors can’t stop the run; Rams can’t defend the pass. Moors go over the top of TC’s DL.
Take Burbank over San Gabriel-Pacific league foe hung with Chaminade, SG squeaked by South Pas.
Take Saint Francis over CV-Too many weapons for SF.
Take San Marino over La Salle-Mooney too physical for the Sisters of La Sally.
Push Gabby and Keppel-Battle of Valley Blvd it ain’t!
Lock of the week:Arcadia over BYE-Apaches battle Brigham Young Escorts (Those kids in the suits on the bikes) and squeaks by 13-6.

Gotta go to the buffet now!

  • MoneyTalks

Seriously, 25 returners on varsity…. i didnt mean starters if that’s what you thought. They are a experienced group.

  • Muddy Waters

SM vs LS: Mooney will test the LS D by running BIG time. (Flash back to his days with TC) Big test for LS’s D this week.

To everybody who picked keppel over gabrielino. Are you guys just taking a wild pick because its hard to decide whos worse? Or is there actually something that you guys see that im not seeing. Would you care to elaborate :)

Apache Joe are you serious???? Someones a little bitter about what happened a few days ago.

  • Apache Joe

    Football fan,

I’m not bitter at all. Arcadia got their butts handed to them. What does my score prediction have anything to do with the game on Friday?

I say that because CV brings back a lot of players and St. Francis quite possibly could overlook Harrison Pessy, their back. They are a decent squad and I believe it is @ CV.

  • MoneyTalks

    Football Fan,

CV is good… don’t underestimate them. You better get Coach Bonds and Gibbons on overtime because I know this year is CVs best chance beating SF.

Don’t worry about Arcadia. No one is bitter in A-town. We understand that we have a young team and it will take sometime this season to gel. We are only going to get better.

About Apache Joe, I trust his opinion on the blog. He has reported a great amount of information about SGV football. His comments werent bitter in nature at all. There’s only 3 guarantees in life- Death, Taxes, and Football Fan having a serious complex.

The St. Francis Vs CV game will be at St. Francis at 7 30pm. No doubt it will be a close game. CV feels a strong hatred towards the knights and I love it! The Battle of the Boulevard!

Muir vs st. Fanny would be called the battle of the arroyo secco. The canyon is the only thing that seperates the schools.

  • Goldenarm

    NEXT YEAR??
    NO, THIS YEAR.
Man, the shovels are out after one game and folks are saying, NEXT YEAR for the Rams.

Apparently people did not see the Arroyo game. Here are some facts:

    1. We have a quarterback who can both pass and run, and stays calm under fire.

    2. Max Ruckle is faster, stronger and quicker than last year.

    3. Our offensive and defensive line play is strong and aggressive, and will get better each and every week.

    4. We outhit Arroyo, came back from a 21-10 deficit, and were near perfection in our kicking game.

TC heard this doom and worse last year, especially after Rosemead destroyed us. We ended up in the semi-finals and lost to the CIF champion. We may stumble more before we get it right. Bury us now if it feels good, but the Rams will be ready for league play – I guarantee it.

    Golden Arm,

I think you might be getting a little defensive, i don’t think anyone is writing off TC; in fact, i would argue that many of us see the mass potential in the rams, however, are giving them and coach white time to develop and iron out all the wrinkles! After a year in the system and and a year of head coaching experience, you should see real thing!
Lastly, perspective is everything, i’ve spoken to a few Arroyo faithful and they seemed to feel that they blew a halftime lead and missed too many the second half! So depending on who you support the opinion is going to be very different!

    MM,

Whew! Back in town just in time! If I was going to miss a Muir game, THANK GOD it was the OC game. From what I heard the boys didn’t play well AT ALL. Not that anyone expected Muir to win, but the last two years at least had some VERY competitive quarters….not this time though. I also heard they lost one of their best hogs in #75 Blas who was carted off the field. That hurts BIG time. Trust me when I tell you that the line is not NEARLY as deep as it was once thought to be. The hogs they have are really good, there’s just not enough of them. Tough start for the Stangs, but I can’t wait to see how they respond to the early adversity.

Btw, what do you mean “???” in reference to my picks last week. You know I went 13-1!!! I guess that’s what I get in picking against The Mead, right JJIMENEZ? My bad Koffler! Damn….close to a perfect weekend and I pick AGAINST a CIF Finalist…(note to self…uhhhhh, you’re still going with the Cats over the Rebels this Friday.) Damn.

    This weeks picks:

    Thursday’s games-

Burbank over SG (Burbank is looking like a strong 2nd place contender this year!)

Brentwood over RHP (Should be a great game….didn’t BHS shut out The Natha last year?)

Pomona over Duarte (Two lowly schools battle it out, but P-town has a few more bullets)

Venice over Muir (Yeah, that would make an 0-3 start. Don’t remind me. The truth is Muir CAN win this game, hell they smashed Venice last year AT Venice, so the dude who said they will “embarrass” Muir is WAY off-base. Their line-up is hurting right now, and they will be getting some players back in a few weeks, but it doesn’t look good for my Stangs THIS week. Btw, Venice only beat West Covina by a TD last week, so a Muir victory is definitely possible, especially considering this is their home opener on the new field.)

    Friday’s games-

TC over Alhambra (Good job in sticking with the alma mater Miguel! I have been VERY critical of Alhambra and the Almont league. Most of my criticisms seem to be justified in MANY of Alhambra’s vexing losses. I can’t put a finger on it, but many of the Moor faithful seem to place the blame squarely on the coaching. It’s one thing to have a lot of talent and lose early in the playoffs, but to have talent and not make the playoffs in the Almont (even for one year) is beyond perplexing. At the end of the day, I’ll go ahead and take Chou over the coach’s son in this one. I totally get the whole “players are the one’s who play the game” spiel, but I”ll take the coaches in this one)

SM over LS (This one is REALLY hard! LS is riding high on a two-game streak, and SM BEAT DOWN Gabby last week….I’m going with the Titan’s hogs to pull through this Friday)

    P-Poly over Marshall (…………)

SF over CV (SF is the best team in the WSGV right now. With that said, I’m really looking forward to see what CV will offer up Friday night…hell, they made this a competitive game LAST year!)

    SP over Hoover (………)

LC over Glendale (Another hard one! I would have taken LC easily over GHS had there been no fires this season, but their lack of practice leads me to believe this game will be very close and may even go the Nitros way. Hell, Rocky Sr. led Muir to a couple of b-ball CIF championships, I’m thinking his son can lead the Spartans to a win over Glendale)

G-Stone over Bosco Tech (The ‘Stone linemen should be able to control this game)

    Jordan over PHS (……….)

Gabby over Keppel (Miguel going with the Aztecs to end their streak this week?!?! Nah…not going to happen)

Monrovia over The Mead (Picking against the Panthers last week cost me my undefeated weekend, but the Cat’s are on a little roll right now and Rosemead lost a lot last year)

    Saturday’s game-

Nova Prep over Flintridge Prep (Battle of the Preppies goes to Nova)

There are some REALLY good games this week…very exciting! One bad thing though…..PUSD schools might be 0-10 after this week. Yikes.

  • Goldenarm

Looks like Lincoln Ave for me on Thursday, at 630pm where does one park his ride?

    A little recent history….

2007 Alhambra Moors beat TC on their home turf
47-0. The most points and worst shutout at home in Ram history.
Should be a closer game Friday.

    it is not right.

  • New York

I take Monrovia by two touchdowns. Rosemead’s hard-nosed ball control will keep the score close by chewing up a lot of clock and testing our metal. Of course, it could be Monrovia in a runaway as well, but that’s tough to do if the Mead chews up clock.

Honestly, who cares how much film Paraclete has on anyone in the division or how many scouts they send to games? In my very humble opinion, its all mind games meant to somehow pysche out their opponents. Why did/does Paraclete win? Cuz they make plays when it counts on both sides of the ball. That comes from repeatedly drilling things in January-July & then executing them in September-December. The idea that film/scouting now is important is ridiculous because none of these teams will be the same come weeks 11-14. Everyone should just worry about the teams they’re facing that week & when anyone in this area plays Paraclete they’ll have enough film from exchange to defeat them, if your good enough.
by the way this is from the mvn.

Paraclete Watch: The defending Mid-Valley Division champions are 2-0 with less than overwhelming victories over Serrano and Knight and have now run its winning streak to 13. Spirit running back Roosevelt Davis ran for 125-yards in Friday nights win.

Not trying to open up the same can of worms, but most Moor fans on this blog, if not all of them, have criticized the coaches time and again. With the talent that Alhambra claims to have year in and year out, the truth is they should not have missed the playoffs AT ALL since ’98….especially in the Almont….especially last year. Schools like Arcadia (until last year) and Muir haven’t missed the playoffs since the 70′s, if I’m not mistaken (I’m sure someone knows

You guys most certainly have the talent to beat TC this Friday, but just going off the past, it isn’t a guarantee.

Good luck to Alhambra and TC this Friday.

Reno should never be taken seriously. After I am a van conversion specialist not a football expert. However, my insights are taken by the Blog Nazi and not made public. It used to be hard nosed football in the WSGV every Friday night. Now only a handful of schools play “real” football. Could one of this teams compete with the past Muir, TC, Monrovia, Pasadena, your team of years past? No. The reasons are endless; demographics, outside interests, the rise of private schools taking our talent, little or no pop warner feeder programs. The list goes on. Still, Gabriel-lean-No and Keppel play to a 12-12 tie with the Aztecs scoring late and the Eagles blocking the potential game winning PAT!

    Anon,

The point is when you film study with the intent of making it worthwhile, you should have more than the opponent’s last game on which to build a plan.

Post film study adjustments and ideas are not ALWAYS worth a crap anyway. Paraclete pulled their punt returner and put 11 men on the line of scrimmage twice – thinking they could block our punts last year. An idea that came from the film room and scouting. It was not really a bad idea, as we had some snaps go haywire (which the Clete saw at Azusa)and on film from La Salle.
They never blocked a kick, but they did rough the kicker and watch as the punt rolled and rolled deeper into their territory. Nonetheless, I doubt a more prepared team lives in our division, and yes, preparation does matter…..especially when coupled with good athletes.

Anybody care to take a stab at how Monrovia versus Rosemead will go.

How will the Mead offense make headway against the Monrovia defense….a pretty good unit with some real emerging studs on it?

Will this be a 60 point game or a low scoring affair?
When is the last time M-town beat Rosemead?

I know both sides are well represented on the blog – lets hear some specific thoughts on how it goes down.

  • New York

Mead-Monrovia has the potential to be a real donnybrook. Both teams have strong running attacks. So this could be a short game with very little clock stopage. I think Monrovia has more horses and the ability to score faster. If we are able to get a couple quick scores then the romp could be on. If Koffler is successful at taking the air out of the ball and really slowing things down, then it could be a close physical contest. My pick is Monrovia.

  • incorrect

    GA,

Your admiration for Paraclete is apparent, however, i think you may be giving to much credit to them and not enough to the area coaches! I guarantee you that Maddox, Backus, and Koffler had just as much film! You don’t need to be at every game sporting your school paraphernalia to collect film! In fact, most of these coaches have been around for some time and know other coaches to gather all the film they feel necessary! Most times the other schools rivals will be more than willing to part with game film if that means there arch nemesis will go down! Furthermore, recent game film is far more helpful then games played week 1-week 5. They are important not just for schemes and tendencies, but to see personnel changes on certain formations. Lastly, Paraclete one because they are good! I believe it was the Northview coach who had a comment to Fred Robledo in the Tribune last year before the Northview vs. Paraclete game; i believe he said that Paraclete was the best team in the division, and that was before they played!

To answer your question about Rosemead vs Monrovia, coach koffler and the Panthers have never lost to Monrovia! I believe that they have won something like 5 straight against the cats, and they have done this with talent and without talent. They have played some talented Monrovia team with the likes of Potts and Canada! It is because of this that i give the edge to the Panthers, until Monrovia finally beats the panthers, then i will think more into it! The pressure is on Monrovia, not Rosemead! If all the Rosemead players are healthy that seemed to have gone done on Friday (Diazd, Parham) i like Rosemead! If one of them does not play, it may be a long night! Go Panthers!

  • Observantcat

    GA:
Calculating all of Rosemead/Monrovia’s strengths and weakness balances, Monrovia has way more strengths than weaknesses, Way more offensive weapon’s to choose from and Just as good or better defense. Starting at QB, Bueno Had his best passing game against Rosemead last year and one of his best running games as well. Rosemead focused clearly on Marquise Williams last year, this year that luxury is gone. Both the JV & Freshman teams shut out the Mead by a combined score of 69-0 and now have the same sensational running backs that did all of the damage on the Varsity team along with probably the biggest offensive weapon Bubba Johnson who would start in probably any backfield in the PSN area. We have a new crop of receivers that are taller faster and can block. Tight End Ellis McCarthy is going to be a monster at this position. I think that Maddox will begin to utilize him in this game a bit more. The brightest spot on the offense this year is the running game. De’Shawn Ramirez is not just quick he is fast!!!! Once this kid gets past the original line of scrimmage he’s GONE.

Rosemead has done a lot of rebuilding this year, the one thing that they will have going for them is a couple of seniors who have been on some pretty good Summler/Alejandre driven teams. The explosiveness should be missing. The running attack is limited to the bang & move offense, therefore any mistake or turnover could result in a long evening trying to stop the Wildcats from scoring.
If in fact Rosemead does decide to utilize a new QB and passing attack, Monrovia will react with one of the best secondaries in the SGV.

About the past: Monrovia to my knowledge hasn’t played The Mead that many times in the past 10 years. But each time we played them we were plagued by one of the Sumler Brothers and we lost. In the distant past (80′-90′s) I don’t recall Rosemead ever even scoring on Monrovia those games were always Wildcat blowouts.

Final take; This will be a hard fought game, but I think that the overwhelming factors are with the Cat’s this year.
My final score prediction: Monrovia 35 Rosemead 14

Now give us your rundown on TC/Alhambra?

  • The Stang Fan

    GA,

Glad to see you are going to catch a Stang game! Just park in the student parking lot, which is adjacent to the field. Hope you enjoy the evening!

    incorrect,

Has the Mead REALLY beaten Monrovia the last 5 times? The doesn’t seem likely.

    LET’S GO STANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • New York

Monrovia should practice and play with a chip on its shoulder to get that Rosemead legacy off its back. Koffler may have never lost to Monrovia, but Maddox is only 0-2 against the Mead, both those coming last year including a close game in the semis. Maddox has evened the score with Arcadia and I’m sure he has Rosemead in the crosshairs. Last year’s Monrovia squad, due to the offseason turmoil and Maddox’s late start, will likely end up being one of Maddox’s least competitive Monrovia teams.

Another point worth mentioning, Monrovia did not play Rosemead in 2006, which was Potts’ and Davis’ senior season. Rosemead does a great job of putting out a competitive team every year. They are certainly consistent. Coach Koffler has clearly identified what his personel can do and that’s what he sticks with: hardnose football. I love it. Monrovia had a handful of near .500 seasons during that 5 game stretch. Clearly, something was lacking in the program at the time. This is a far different program now.

Its okay to have your different opinions about scouting. There is really no right or wrong answer with what I’ve read. It really depends on the staff and their competencies and comfort levels.I like how our staff does their homework. When you talk about personnel, formations and tendencies…yeah the last few games are key, but a body of work will paint a little more realistic picture from start to finish. That in my opinion is key…I for one would look for the above characteristics, but I really like to see how teams react to adversity and different schemes. I want to see what a player or unit is all about. The more familiar you get with these teams (which just happen to be a light year away from Clete) the better you feel about matching up personnel and wit. From there, its all about the 48 minutes before you that night.

Oh and NY…Davis had a big night last week but we got a handful of horses.

And to those who said we squeaked by Serrano and Knight…the score doesn’t tell what the whole story. You’d have to see the games to realize were doing good. Trust me whatever happens during non-league – I mean look at our schedule, were playing some big-time schools – it helps us down the road. We’ll be there come playoffs.

  • Desert Rat

Oh and about the Rovia-Mead game…I’ll go 35-12 Rovia.

  • Anonymous

In any pregame tape exchange, you get a least 3 films. If watching your opponents last 3 games isnt enough to get tendencies or anything else needed, then either your team aint good enough or the coaches aint.

  • Goldenarm

    incorrect,

You are bit conflicted, saying rosemead will win, BUT will do so only if not a single player you mention is missing from the lineup. So, either Diaz pulls a hammy and the Mead then stands no chance?

Monrovia, on the other hand, may be strong enough that even if you were to lift Bueno from the lineup -the team would remain in good standing to win the game, based on solid D and Maddox’s ability to adjust midstream with an offensive plan.

Yes, I do have admiration and respect for Paraclete. They beat a larger and stronger adversary in NV, stumbled when challenged by TC, righted themselves and kicked our ass, then put down a Rosemead team that should have been CIF champion. To disrespect that assures their dominance over Mid-Valley shall continue. It is better to have eyes open than snicker while the trophy heads for cactusland.

  • Goldenarm

thanks for the excellent mead/monrovia comments.

    tc/alhambra –

    O cat,
I hope our defense is prepared to butt heads with alhambra, because if not we could lose by a sizeable margin. Cazarin will be ready with screens and draws to counter the monstrous pass rush the Moors saw us level against Arroyo. Crockom is likely primed to break out of whatever funk Roosevelt laid on him. He is too good to do nothing.
Rams can win if we set the pace.
we cannot win a big play war against the moors, tc will have to stop the run and force them to throw, then choke off the 90 yd td kind of plays.

We are a work in progress for sure. how far along is the progress, not really sure. We need to give Ruckle a Wrinkle…hey I like that jingle. Pultz is TD ready.

It could come down to a turnover. I expect a close game and a defensive mind game for AHS/TC coaches.
    Go Rams.
    Heading for Muir tonight.

Again that’s your opinion. Its what works best for each staff. I mean, are you saying that team or staff wasn’t good? I don’t think so. All I can say is coach Dahlia’s ring is blinding.

Hats off to the coaching staffs who do their work and don’t sell their kids short.

  • New York

That shiny ring may as well be a bull’s eye. Paraclete is no longer dismissed as a small school from Lancaster, at least not by any legitimate contenders.

Game tape of the three most recent games is less relevant if the prior three games were against low-seed lightweights during the early rounds in the playoffs, or if they were against teams in league that did not even make the playoffs.

  • Philly B.

    Observantcat,
I enjoyed reading your observation and your intake on both m-town and rosemead for the game of the week. I dont see why we dont take out the panthers with ease, for just the reason that there are no more Sumlers in the backfield. Now monrovia has a “Stable” of running backs a tight-end??? And supposedly one of the best defensive backfields in the area???? I hope your right and not hyping up the cats for nothing. I think it should be a win by two touchdown. Miguel you didnt make a predicition on this game why??? No faith in the cats to finally beat the panthers???

    Stang Fan,
good Luck with the stangs playing venice, that will not be an easy game Im sure…..but if muir puts it together they be able to take out venice

  • curiousgoerge

My son play’s on the jv’s so I was at practice yesterday
and I spoke to Darrian and Mitchell on their thoughts on their opponents(TC).
They both said there very good upfront, they play sound,
and Ruckle is probably the best Rb they will face during the regular season. They both said it’s gonna be a tough game and they will have to be going on all cylinders in order to get the win on Friday night. Good Luck Moors!

  • Observantcat

    PhillyB.

The talent is certainly there this year, Although the bulk of our offensive firepower are Jr.s and Sophomores They have a lot of maturity. Not taking anything away from Rosemead they always come out aggressive and ready to make it a fight, this year is just Monrovia’s year to win that fight. No Hype, these guys are just that good. Not to jump ahead wait until you see the Monrovia Freshman squad, it’s only going to make the future that much brighter, although they haven;t had a game this year I know without a doubt that they have a potential of going undefeated and Nick Bueno may even be seeing some of those receivers by the time league begins.

  • Reno Hightower

Reno loves the New York Film Critic! Three films are usually enough if they are of the correct quality. That is, does the other team of your opponent run a similar scheme so that you may get an idea of blocking schemes, pass coverages, etc. Sometimes getting an earlier game may provide insight of a player returning from injury like the Paraclete QB who broke TC’s heart with the option. Some films are junk like any you get from St. Paul. St Paul Coach, “A parent shot the film. that is why plays are missing, you get the band at halftime, and it is out of focus.” Some coaches are computer tendency freaks (down, distance, formatio) while others search for clues (Guard’s stance tips off run or pass). However, NOTHING beats scouting in person. You get the feel for the game: adversity, pouty players, hot headed coaches, sideline decorum, etc. Reno loves the movies but does enjoy a live performance. New York, whats your take on “Best of Times”?

  • incorrect

    GA,

Anything but conflicted, i do believe Rosemead will win with or without Diaz or Parham, however, the it would make me feel a lot more comfortable with them playing! i Believe in our coaching staff, and i can assure you that they would rather play with a healthy squad, but are not concerned with them not playing! Someone goes down, someone must step up!

I could care less how Paraclete scouts their opponents, they can send scouts to every opponent’s game that they may meet in the playoffs from week zero to week 10, if they feel that helps them win. Forgive me if I’m not impressed by that & write that here. Teams/coaches can be just as prepared & not go to every game of possible opponents they might play. To me its all about intimidation, mind games if you will, on the part of Paraclete, I mean why else would they show up to a week zero game between Arcadia/Mtown. It sounds like your saying if coaches don’t go to every game or have film on everyone then they’re not doing a good job as a coach, that theyre selling their kids short. I could disagree more, but wont & remember, it’s all opinion here, even what you write.

  • Goldenarm

    here is your quote
“If all the Rosemead players are healthy that seemed to have gone done on Friday (Diazd, Parham) i like Rosemead! If one of them does not play, it may be a long night! Go Panthers”

    not conflicting?

I think the Mead will hang tough and Koffler will have them prepared. I just think Rosemead may have trouble scoring on M towns defense….enough to match the offensive output of M-town.

  • Reno Hightower

Old school Paraclete trick. It has been around for ages. After film exchange, Paraclete calls and says the tapes were bad, equipment manager wasn’t supposed to exhange, or plays were missing/etc.bs. Paraclete makes opposing team scramle to get tapes to Lancaster. While you (or assistant coach) are driving, Paraclete is prepping and wasting your precious finite time. Seen it happen more than once with those type of schools. Can’t wait for Paraclete/St. Paul

  • Desert Rat

We don’t play those games. Chances are, our libraries are stocked deep anyways because we’re zero week hounds…remember…lol!

    Anonymous-

Again bro… You got to do what you got to do. All I’m saying is that’s the coaching preference out here..I agree with it. The staff really loves the games and talent out there as much as they like scouting them..oh, and they like Roscoe’s and The Hat.

    MVF-

Good question…from what vine did that find you? I haven’t heard a thing.

  • Reno Hightower

    Desert Rat

Hate to tell you this but that video situation did happen last year during the playoffs. Is it as bad as Bill Belichek’s cheating or Bob Johnson at Mission Viejo watching a video of someone’s else practice? No, it is more of a gamemanship trying to get under the opponent’s skin. Just like the Spirit trash talking or late hits, it is part of the game. Yortsos of SM missed the opener because of he was ejected from the ‘Clete/SM playoff game. Yortsos wasn’t dancing by himself. Still, the Spirits are the #1 team in the Mid Valley Division and deservedly so. Get Hart and St. Paul; I dislike those schools too.

  • incorrect

    GA,

i put “May” in caps for you! “MAY” does not mean lose! Sorry, next time ill be more specific! Just trying to give Monrovia there just due! So NO not conflicting!

If all the Rosemead players are healthy that seemed to have gone done on Friday (Diazd, Parham) i like Rosemead! If one of them does not play, it MAY be a long night! Go Panthers”

  • Desert Rat

    Reno-

Were you referring to the TC VHS tapes…the ones that had game taped over game over game taped over? Where the Spirits provided flawless DVD copies. Our staff said they saw footage of the Rams in yellow jersey’s….how long ago was that?

How is that Paraclete’s fault? As a staff, you’re responsible for stuff like that…not the watergirl or ballboy. The athletic director delivered the tapes completely embarrassed. Hardly our fault…easy with the accusations.

  • Philly B.

    Observantcat,
Well Im glad the future looks promising to the cats. Well i see that miguel has got right back on the panther train, and has pretty much picked them to knock out monrovia. whatever if thats his choice he talkin bout respect, monrovia needs respect even though we’re ranked “number 1″ in the area that isnt enough for me of course. I know monrovia hasnt played anyone yet, and because of turnovers etc etc. is why we won against arcadia, but a win is a win. And with the talent and the stable of running backs we should wear down rosemeads defense. Rosemeads star player diaz is just one person, he will get tired, and they’re will be a minimum of two guys on him all night. that can take a toll and we’ll se how tough the panthers are against monrovias fast D. Remember monrovia almost won last year in Rosemead it was close for 3qtrs. I believe.
Miguel if Monrovia wins, which they should based on depth, dont try and come back to our wagon then, you stay with the panthers and we’ll see them in playoffs hopefully
