Friday Night Aftermath: Pasadena is 2-0 in Pacific League play; Temple City, San Marino, Maranatha and South Pas earn wins; Muir, La Cañada lose in final drive.

FRIDAY'S SCORES
Arroyo 31, La Cañada 27 -- The Spartans just couldn't find a way to stop Arroyo's Mikey Vasquez who rushed for 187 yards and scored three touchdowns. Anything La Cañada did the Knights had an answer for. Rocky Moore completed 16 of 31 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns. In four games this season, Moore's yet to throw an interception. I hope I just didn't jinx him.
Temple City 42, La Salle 20 -- Max Ruckle led the Rams attack by rushing for 203 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries as Temple City scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to record its second win of the season. I'll be at La Cañada next Thursday to check out the Max Ruckle Show.
South Hills 30, Rosemead 9 -- The Huskies (2-2) jumped out a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and then struggled to hold on for the win. The Panthers pulled within five points, 14-9, when Matt Macias hit Greg Parham on a 79-yard touchdown play. "It's hard to score points on them," Rosemead coach Matt Koffler said. "We were trying to run the ball and get their safety down low and he did and we got our play."
Pasadena 19, Arcadia 14 -- The Pasadena High School defense came up big. Again. The Bulldogs pushed host Arcadia back when the Apaches were primed to re-take the lead in the waning minutes of Friday night's Pacific League contest.
The Bulldogs prevailed, 19-14, to remain undefeated in league play at 2-0, 3-2 overall. The Apaches fell to 1-1, 1-3-1. "They were huge," first-year Pasadena head coach Mike McFarland said. The Apaches drove to the Bulldogs 10 in their final drive. On first down, a pile of Pasadena players threw the Apaches for a 10-yard loss on a pitchout. Arcadia was called for holding, and on third down, Chris Conell sacked Arcadia quarterback Myles Carr. The drive was stopped on the 17. "The kids are fired up," McFarland said. "It's been a long time since the school has beaten Arcadia. The kids were excited to end the streak."
Burbank 29, Muir 28, 2OT -- Muir had a 14-7 lead but relinquished that lead and headed into overtime tied at 21. Muir had a chance to win it in overtime after recovering a Burbank fumble. But quarterback Jarron Williams was sacked and three incomplete passes later the Mustangs found themselves heading into second OT. Williams scored to put Muir on top in the second OT, but Burbank answered with Sam Bethany 2-yard score and a two-point conversion from Adam Colman to Ulises Ochoa. Tough break for the Mustangs, who are now 0-5 overall and 0-2 in Pacific League.
San Marino 14, San Gabriel 13 -- The Matadors counted on a short field and a recovered fumble in the closing minutes of its last nonleague game of the season to stay undefeated. Morgan Myers helped the Titans erase a six-point deficit with 1:10 to play in the game on a 2-yard touchdown run, followed by a Stevie Yortsos extra kick to help them get by San Gabriel, 14-13. Myers' decisive score concluded a seven-play, 54-yard march for San Marino (5-0) that lasted 1:55. On the next drive, the Matadors (2-3) used all three timeouts, but they didn't amount to much after an Isaac Valdez fumble that Ben Harwich recovered at the Titans 42.
Maranatha 22, Kilpatrick 6 -- The Minutemen (3-2, 2-0) were led by quarterback Cody Keith, who completed 11 of 24 passes for 118 yards and one interception. Keith rushed for three touchdowns, all on quarterback sneaks from the 1. It was a sloppy game of sorts for Maranatha, which had numerous miscues and sloppy plays at times.
Sierra Vista 33, Duarte 7 -- Duarte's defense held the Dons' high-powered running attack to 14 points in the first half despite allowing 138 rushing yards and over 12 minutes in time of possession. But it didn't matter. Jose Maldonado and Erick Garcia led Sierra Vista with two touchdowns each.
Pioneer 31, Bosco Tech 19 -- Pioneer had a strong second half in the win. Turnovers stymied the Tigers who have now lost two straight games.
South Pasadena 26, Keppel 14 -- The Tigers won their first game of the season, taking advantage of Aztecs miscues. A week after Keppel ended a 40-game losing streak, the Tigers picked off five Evan Blackman passes and recovered a pair of fumbles. "We did not play very well," Keppel first-year coach Bobby Mildred said. "Those five interceptions put us in a hole." The Tigers led, 7-0, at the half. Keppel got down to the 10, but fumbled the ball away. "As bad as we played, we were still in the game," Madrid said. We just shot ourselves in the foot. After last week, I'm really disappointed." The Tigers took a 14-0 lead. Bachman scored the first of his two TDs on a quarterback sneak.
Rio Hondo Prep 40, Desert 6 -- Juniors Nick Preciado and Charles Quintero each rushed for more than 100 yards and the Kares remained undefeated with a relatively easy victory. Rio Hondo Prep led, 20-6, at the half. Andrew Quintero, up from the junior varsity team, scored a TD and Preciado and Charles Quintero had the other TDs. Preciado had a TD reception from Chris Llamas. Jimmy Davis and Jason Wiley both had interceptions, Wiley returning his 50 yards.

I don’t believe it’s a First Amendment issue either. However, I do believe it’s a Fifth Amendment issue and a Tenth Amendment issue and at most, this should be a state matter
New York,
I try to be optimistic as long as I can, but you already know Im blunt and I dont bite my tongue. But Im glad dat ur classiness on this blog didnt blind ur football knowledge. Im lookin at la canada a little more closely than I am SM. But as far as any three way ties and drama in the RHL, It should be the same ol' thing. Monrovia and T.C for league. If LC gets third and knocks out an over-rated SM team, then I dont see why they cant go far in the playoffs. Im hearing all about their QB, but how is their team D???
Anonymous,
First off, I like that your believing in ur bulldogs, more power to you. But please....Take it one game at a time. You beat Hoover, and arcadia....That isnt saying that much. Like I said before, if you beat Burbank and/or Burroughs than Im saying Stangs better watch out cuz the bulldogs are for real. But Im not jumpin that bandwagon until that happens. I hope its really true that PHS is back. I know Im gonna hear about private school this private school that. but I still say PHS&Muir Should be some of the powerhouses in our area. Why? Because they usually put some of the fastest teams in the area, and right after that is Monrovia. But I wouldnt say miguel and starnews have been dissin the bulldogs, but if u want to take it like that, to each its own. But Im tellin you, take it one game at a time, because u hop on that wagon too early, and next thing you know, the bulldogs are having decade relapses on how they use to play. But I would love to go to a tussle and actually see a 4qtr game not a 2qtr game. But time will tell if ur bulldogs are contenders or pretenders
The Anon, was me the "Huckster"!!!! I'm never a coward!
Philly B,
Man, we (PHS)are going to give the Stangs a "BRUTAL" A$$ whipping! Point Blank! We came into the previous games with Offensive fire power, but we got some Violent physical defensive $hit going on and the kids are angry on how Miguel and the Starnews have been dissing the Dogs! I can't wait until Mike let me give them a speech on the Bus at the Bowl! We and I mean PHS because I'm part of the family get this victory in the Bowl! Yes, I know we got some big other games ahead of us but we just snaped one streak and going to snap another! WHOS HOUSE!!!!!! DOGS HOUSE!!!!!!!
I think GA used the right adjective to describe the TC/La Salle game - "unfocused."
I'd be curious to hear what La Salle's "plan" was - they only dressed about 24 players. I do not know if they are worried more about opening league, and trying to get people healthy or keep people healthy. The #1 running back is out for the season, the linebackers/DB core is beat up with concussions and leg injuries, the #1 QB may be injured worse that thought (I heard he first injured his knee in the Maranatha game), and using Alexander at QB is not optimizing his talents - he is a great receiver, but only a so-so QB. The lack of depth may be hurting.
Verbum Dei Saturday, and then a bye week. They need a home game soon - 3-0 at home, 0-3 on the road.
Philly,
I love your optimism and I will never discourage it!
I too beleive Monrovia should blowout San Marino. However, strange things can happen in football, especially high school football. My advice to Monrovia's coaches: if timing seems off initially, just start pounding the Titans with Bubba. That alone should be enough to win.
Regarding sloppy mistakes and penalties: PLEASE address this and clean it up. A huge mistake we used to make in the past was overlooking these type of problems during blowout wins. It ALWAYS came back to haunt during important games down the road.
SGV Football Fan
Thank you for realizing what is soon to happen this friday night. San Marino will never be able to compete with the likes of M-town and T.C. until they beef up their schedule before league starts
Props goes out to La Canada, tough lost going into league play but im sure it will make them tougher going into league. Surprised by the SM-SG game, but again SG is third best in thier league respectfully, I thought they would pull that one out, against an untested titan team.
Congrats to PHS 2-0 keep it goin bulldogs. Please make the turkey tussle a game....PLEASE!!!!
Please bulldog fans dont jinx it for your squad!!! Just keep rooting for them. But dont make any crazy bold predictions just yet bout winning the tussle. Its way too early for all of that!!! You beat an arcadia team, that you should of been whoopin on like muir usually does. You Upset Burroughs and/or Burbank, thats when you'll have my attention, and as well as stang fans. just take it one game at a time.
New York
Dont get too excited about the RHL league this season. I hear T.C. still has some wrinkles to work out after the la salle game. Im sure nothing to worry about they said monrovia played sloppy too a couple weeks ago. but u win by over 20points, cant be that bad. It seems like LC has a QB thats the real deal. but I dont expect the T.C. LC match up will light up the scoreboard. SM will be a bust like usual. The last time the RHL was exciting was i believe 2005-06 win Blair tied with Monrovia for the title. No one saw that coming. I mean they knocked out T.C. that year right?? If LC as a whole is for real then it Goes Monrovia, T.C, and LC for league.
Stang Fan,
the mustangs are off to a rough start, but u got hoover, CV, And arcadia to get some wins, and pray the bulldogs dont get a lil swag. Cuz they do. Im gonna have to make that game.
Muddy,
Man, we blew our chance for the National Anthem.
You sound severely bummed out. For early season, this year has already brought some high highs and in the deep pit lows for some teams. No offense to TC fans like FB Einstein, but to say TC/LA Salle was a "good game" - I just can't see it.
Both teams played mistake-laden, unfocused football. As a primer for league play, the game was "good" only to expose the multitude of weaknesses and challenges that lie ahead.
With 3 days to prepare for La Canada, I hope our coaching staff can provide a simple, straightforward path to victory for our kids. The effort will be there from the Rams. TC should expect a well prepared hard nosed Spartan team, with an experienced QB and kids who remember we closed out their playoff hopes last year. In other words, an extremely tough football game.
Good luck to the La Salle and all the good people there.
Just to make things fun, how about we post OUR OWN TOP 10 WSGV teams (As of today)
Golden,
I don’t think you have anything to apologize for. I think the posts prior from others to you were interesting to say the least. I am no “homer” nor do I blindly drink the home team cool aid. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Stangs and Lancers. I certainly want them to get better. I just can’t post my observations from the game(s) as of yet. I want my post(s) to be measured, factual, and timely.
Good luck this season. Monrovia is a handful.
FROM THE BISHOP AMAT FOOTBALL PROGRAM:
"Take DR off Amat's schedule next year! said:
Lancers kicked Dranchh and anonupussy in their teeth tonight. The game was over in the first quarter and it was soooooo boring thank god the goofy anouncer provided comic relief.
DR brought a knife to a gunfight. The Dawgs pounded on the pussycats tonight. My one toothed Grandmother could have scored on that DR defense tonight. Ray Charles could have thrown over 300 yards on that defense. Obama won the Noble Peace Prize. Go figure!
Moreover, thank God we won't hear from those asinine pendejos Dranchh and anonupussy for a long time. All I can say to Anonupuss is BOHICA, BEND OVER HERE IT COMES AGAIN. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
NOW Let's beat the St Paul SLIME next week!"
CONSIDERING THEY HAVEN'T WON ANYTHING IN 15 YEARS, ARE THESE AMAT KIDS ARROGANT, IGNORANT, OR WHAT???

Monrovia will beat San Marino...56-14 Friday night. Their cupcake schedule will be exposed!!! It could be a long 5 weeks for the Titans.
Way to keep it classy PHS. It's bad enough that every other school out there thinks that PHS is 'ghetto'. That last comment certainly doesn't help.
WE R GONNA SO G@NG R@PE MUIR...I CAN ENVISION A GRAND SPANKING ALREADY...BETTER WRITE UR OBITUARIES U SORRY STANGS
Overall good game TC. The turnovers were big momentum boosters for LS. That can’t happen vs LC. La Canada is a MUST WIN!!! TC cannot afford to lose this game. Jump on them early and play mistake free football!
I think coach Mooney is a GREAT coach,
but I must say I was at the SG vs SM game,
and SM(5-0) did not impress me too much.
Sure 5-0 is great but I honestly believe So Pas will beat this team in my opinion. Great job though on the SM boys hanging in there to pull off last second "V"!
I give all the credit to the SM coaching staff!
SG, well, not too impressed either.
Yea I can not believe how good Kishon could be. That bubble was spectacular...Than on some of the deep passes he looked completely lost. Mike Novell was hurt, tweeked his knee against Monrovia...So they put there best athlete behind center in Mike Alexander. I think they should have ran him more from shotgun, but who am I to second guess anyone.
no need for apology....I was frustrated as well, you will see if they release my ramble from the almighty editor machine.
I think the kid was 74, not sure, he took his helmet off and was wandering the field until a fellow Lancer got him to sit down.
If we play anything like that against La Canada, we will be blown. We tackled fairly well until Sanders was thrown that bubble - then we looked like bugs bouncing off the windsheild.(sp)
Was Novell hurt, or was the plan to go to Alexander?
Good luck to the La Salle kids and supporters.
I know my comments came on a little strong, for that I apologize. Which kid was wobbly and disoriented? You brought up good points...I just hope that they keep giving Max the ball...Really did not realize he had that many yards. It was a very frustrating game from where I was standing. Really felt like LS could hang, but 45 is a lot to give up. I hope you do well in league. Again sorry for the negative talk. I now know not to get on the blogs until I have cooled down...Man they really needed to score after Alexander got that pick at the start of the second half!!!
Muddy,
You know me well enough to know I'm not going to come on here and bad mouth La Salle's football team or program.
I can say this though, neither of the football teams we support are doing what they need to do. My point to the Lancer is there is plenty of dirt in his own backyard, but if he feels he needs to dig in mine, I got plenty of spots my shovel has yet to it.
I am finding joy in the individual efforts of our kids, but as a team, there are times you just bow your head and pray.
Burroughs by 8 over PHS.
Nervo, Max Ruckle 25 carries for 150 and 2 Tds in the first game against arroyo and 220 yards rushing against arcadia. you should read a paper
Muir & Stang Fan,
29 to 28 against Burbank is not bad, Burbank is a pretty good team this year, they could be the favorite in the Pacific league so no shame in that at all.
0 & 5 or not, it looks like Stang Fan is correct in saying that Muir will be there at playoff time, I think this game score shows it.
This is great. It looks like things in the RHL will be exciting this year.
18 rushes for 203 yards and 3 TDs!?!? Has White realized that he has a WMD in his backfield finally???
pasadena high defense is tooooooo great to be beaten
..we got off to a slow start but now we're on top
n phs is gonna take the bell this year!!!
They might bump into you!
Kitty Pride
The next 3 games for Muir are winnable. Arcadia, CV, Glendale & Hoover. They could win all 4 and face PHS with much more confidence in the Tussle, fighting for a playoff spot.
Pasadena has its biggest test next friday away at B.Burroughs. They better get their offense in gear and clean up the false starts & other dumb penalties to win...
Golden,
The worst thing that can happen to a program is to become irrelevant. You didn't hear me making any bold predictions about this week or this season. I am waiting to hear what this year’s excuses will be. In the end, the scoreboard always has last word. Good luck in league.
Lancer
I posted a First Testament sized response -but the blog editor ate it.
Hope the kid that was wobbly and disoriented is OK.
My basic thought is yes, we played like total crap. Thought 2 is we put up 45 points playing in the crap mode, you really don't want to meet TC firing on all cylinders.
Alexander played his butt off and is a good athlete. It seemed LS was not really sure what they wanted to do offensively, or how they intended to attack TC.
Hey moors,
Its league time go moors go!!! Go moors Go!!! Go moors go!!! (Spurs)
Here's some scores the PSN didn't find. Aint the internet great? hehe

Ohhh, and anonymous I will argue that fact with you all day...Usually a football program is judged from the starting of the new regime. So what have you say for yourself...The new coaching stuff is doing more than anyone would have ever thought (beat St. Bonnie and O Lu). Yea no league banner, but have you seen who they play...I mean really, first of all pick a name, second of all grow up. D Ranch really has absolutely no chance against them...Another reason to promote my football knowlegde...It is going to get ugly before it gets better...I really hope you put the same blog on the East side, or did you only put it here with West side fans that will not put up much of a fight about Bishop Amat. LAMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE.
CAUGHT THE SAN MARINO V. SAN GABRIEL GAME TONIGHT AND. I WOULD LIKE TO AGREE TO THOSE OF YOU WHO SAID VALDEZ IS RIDICULOUSLY OVERRATED. THE BOY CANT THROW PAST 20 YRDS. I THOUGHT IT WAS DUCK HUNTING SEASON WITH ALL THOSE DUCKS IN THE AIR. I THINK HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF PLAYING RB CUZ HE HAS WHEELES AND KNOWS HOW TO LOWER THE SHOULDER. STILL, HEARTBREAKING LOSS FOR THE MATADORS. I HOPE THEY GET IT TOGETHER. BECAUSE I SAW THE ALMONT LEAGUE TEAMS UP IN THE STANDS SCOUTTING AND BOY DID THEY LOOK HUNGRY AFTER THIS PERFORMANCE!!!!
GO MOORS!!!!
Ohhhh man I have been waiting so long to talk about La Salle, they are not playing anymore area teams....GA sorry but you guys are in for a lonnnng season...TC is not very good, even if you go back to the running game you are going to lose very bad against Monrovia(without a doubt in my mind, rivalry game or not)probably gonna lose against La Canada and San Marino...4th place would be a great accomplishment for you...Not to put you down, I really respect you, Goldenarm, but it is gonna get ugly real fast. #1 Mike Alexander is carrying La Salle, MIGUEL if he doesnt get respect for what he is doing I dont believe in you anymore...Kishon Sanders really broke my heart tonight...I mean the poor kid looks lost out there. He has a lot of work to do...I couldnt believe it that Alexander was playing qb tonight, but he still did well...Goldenarm, you better have a lot of kids hurt, because if you dont, you are in for a long league season. It really is hard for me to put TC down because of my respect for you, GA, but it doesnt look good. Had LS had some respectful play calling that game would have been a lot closer...I am very sad that some players that I am very close to did not step up for La Salle, that game should have been different. #1 Mike Alexander is carrying the heart of the team, but I will not overlook #33 James Harmon, kid is tough, but had a rough game, he will help greatly in league. I know I am going to catch a lot of crap for these comments, but just take it as an opinion and see what happens at the end of the season. I have been around football for a very long time, and I just might be right.
24-17 chaminade
Bishop Amat is a MEDIOCRE FOOTBALL program at BEST.
.
27 - 26 Last Five YEARS. So, not only is it Mediocre, but its will also have a LOSING RECORD at the end of this year!!!
NOBODY WANTS TO ARGUE THAT FOOTBALL FACT. DO YOU, AMAT?
Bishop The Mat - Not only are you Ignorant and Arrogant, but you're also Embarrassed & Ashamed!
Embarrassed and Ashamed of your Football program:
NO CIF RING IN 15 YEARS,
NO BANNER IN 15 YEARS,
AND NO CHAMPION!
One loss by St. Bonnie!
.
NO CHAMPION!
Over Raaated . . .! Clap...Clap...Clap!!! OVER RAAATED!!!
D Ranch!!!
wat more can i say muir 0-5
no players
and everyone knows no coaches
sorry stang fans dont yall miss last years team #2,#3,#4,#7,#55,#21 BINGO and (#24)
WOW wat more can be said
i know this is isnt really our area, but does anyone know who won chaminade v. Harvs westlake?
Muir lost against Burbank you need to fix the score. Burbank 29 Muir 28 Double overtime.
Burbank 29 Muir 28 Muir just got out coached by a Burbank team. When is the last time Muir was 0-5. They need a new Offensive Coordinator at Muir please let us know because they are playing worse than pop-warner team.
Dude Miguel...saw you on the Spartans sideline...back away from the torta depot man.
MHS 22, Kilpatrick 6
Pasadena 19 Arcadia 14
31-27 Knights.
ejection
titans win big in last minute
SAN MARINO WINS IN LAST MINUTE STYLE 14-13
Sparta scores to get it within 3, but the Knights break a long run on the following possession to make it 31-21 Arroyo with 5 left in the game.
24-14 Arroyo at the half. Team defense on both sides of the ball is a concern. The Knights aren't big, but they're fast enough to elude Sparta.
La Canada has size but no girth. They also seem a little tentative to throw the big hit or run over the Knights.Offensively, they have a ways to go. Inconsistent play calling. The QB doesn't read well and tries to force it into double and triple coverage.
Third place in the Rio Honda should be between LaC and TC.
If this is the best MVL has to offer, then there is no need to fear the Mead.
off to see what san gabriels abouttt
off to see what san gabriels abouttt
Gabby travels to BYE (predicting BYE by a touchdown)
Yeah thats is a even bigger stretch than my pick for El rancho upsetting SF. South Pas should not have a problem with Keppel. And if they somehow lose to keppel(Doubted) any small credibility that the RHL had will be lost HAHA. and If La Canada is able to knock off Arroyo at home, I'll have to take a lil more serious look at the spartans. and hope they'll knock off San Marino for a berth in the playoffs
Good luck spartans. Bring home a win.
YEAH MM I JUST CANT SEE SP LOSING TO KEPPLE. JUST NOT HAPPENING. GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS EITHER WAY.
GO MOORS!!!
Yes, I believe SP will.
La Canada should be able to beat Arroyo - but the Knights will find the end zone and keep it reasonably close.
If LC plays tight coverage a pick or two could be the determining factor.
In the end the "pit" crew from LC will wear down Arroyo and take home a "W"
Bullshit man SP will kick keppels ass!
