This blog is about football and that is why I come here.
After the last game is played this year - it will be a good time to look at all the puzzle pieces and see if we are traveling the right direction and with the right people - who have both the knowledge and integrity to lead. We have good kids in the pipe right now - and they deserve the best coaches and mentors we can provide for them.

Coach White has made mistakes - and has been man enough to stand up and say so. Every head coach has a first season, few to none will ever say it was their best season. Not being an alum and with a staff that appears to shun and at times insult TC tradition - Coach White has gotten under some skins..and it doesn't help when his assistants come out with an "us against them" public statement. White has made comprimises and has taken stands - same as you would expect from any decent human being. He is our head coach - and I support him. I mean that.

If some individuals can't tell the face of loyalty from the face of an enemy - not much you can do.

With kids I have given rides and thrown Gatorade bottles to, watched come slowly back from injury and then fall again....I can't just walk away. 4 summers of it up close and personal, a one win season, a league championship, an almost CIF dream...there is too much already in stone. 3 league match ups and hopefully CIF to go...I am hanging all the way to the last tick and you won't ever hear me rag a kid by name or blame the line or certain kids in the secondary for losing a game. The team wins - the team loses.

Monrovia fans could care less if we're No.1 in the area or not. What does mean to us??? Nothing at all. You say hes not the best QB in the division....but hes undefeated. You say Defensive Coordinators dont fear him. Ask Rosemead and San Dimas About that who I believe is still No.2 in the division. You fail to realize like MHS fan Said they run the spread option, you gotta have a QB that can MANAGE the game and not turn the ball over! So for you to say Bueno is not a factor at all is just dumb. Well I am tired of coaches taking over a successful program and then screwing the pooch under the guise of "we're taking it in a new direction". The football program at TC is entirely different. You had a spread offense ready before you even knew you would have a stud like Smith at QB, proving that your style of play matches what YOU (the coaches) would like, rather than what your talent is suited for. Even traditions as trivial as the cheerleader goodies to football players have been changed so that the coaches have control over everything (don't even get me started on the horns BS).

Why not put your fatuous ego aside and stop trying to prove yourself? People are not upset with your efforts at reforming the program. We are (at least I am) unhappy with the arrogant way in which you try and win games instead of letting the players do that.

And a final side note, how many respected coaches of the area (Mooney, Garrison, Koffler, etc.) have ever come onto this blog (and rest assured most do look at it) and blasted bloggers (let alone their own fans)? None. You should follow suit and just read.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt....

GA: Take a deep breath and keep command of your position as Mayor of the PSN. It is rare that a coach takes the liberty to reprimand his fans. It brings me back to an earlier comment that I made after TC tied with Arcadia about the Captain sailing his ship in different directions. Coach White is a very young coach and I'm sure there are EGO's as Big as the ship itself trying to hold on while the ship seems to be off course. If there is a True Green & Gold Fan willing to set up a town meeting with this new coaching staff and try and Iron out the frustrations of your program now is the time to do it. In years to come the Bull Shty will begin to stack so high and the main focus of your argument will slowly dissipate as teams like SM will take notice and begin playing to the ego of The mighty TC coaching staff. GA I think you could be the MAN for the JOB.

Wow, a coach coming on this blog to lecture bloggers?! It's clear the kind of ship Coach White is running over at TC! I'm more worried about TC now than I was after Friday's loss. When a coach points the finger at fans it begs the question who else are they pointing the fingers at? Are the coaches pointing fingers at each other? Or worse, are they pointing fingers at the players? In the end, coaches are responsible for what happens on the field! Fans are going to be supportive when a team wins & critical when a team loses it's just how it goes. Coach Prado TC, you made a mistake coming on this blog, just stick to coaching the kids, leave the blogs to the fantics.

Wow. Goldenarm has always been the classiest blogger and has always been loyal to Temple City. Remember, just because somebody respectfully disagrees does not mean that he/she is not supportive. 100% conformity is not always the solution. Sometimes the emperor needs to be told that he is wearing no clothes. I hope the non-personal feedback is not taken personally.

Separately, it is great to have an opposing coach offer praise for Monrovia's quarterback. That was very classy.

Sounds like you a dentist working without novacaine on your patients. KEEP IT UP! Make everybody squirb around a little. Reno agrees and says that Bueno ain't a great thrower; but he is a winner at the end of the night. He has to be accounted for run/pass. Rarely, is Nick in a 3rd and long situation where a laser 20 yard dart is needed. He can use his legs for the 1st down; hence run/pass. He would be a good wishbone/veer QB. They are different animals than a dropback QB.

Maybe you don't watch much high school football, as Bueno is currently a High School football player. He is a great player and he is currently playing High School Football. I think Bueno will be a great college football player which ever way he decides to go QB or DB.

Both coaches and players put endless hours of film, practice, game planning and effort to compete at the highest level. I doubt their is one coach that will ever put a student athlete at risk for injury or loss.

You watch practice but yet you wish you could be side by side in battle with these young men.

I think it's time you got off this subject. Seriously, you should find a way to ask these coaches what they think of #4. You'd be so surprised to find out how little you know. It's okay that you don't know too much about football. It appears the impact of skeptics is little to those who compete and stay focused. At 17-3 Bueno would fit that category.

Hey Einstein: Why would Maddox trade Bueno, who is only a junior and will probably be a back-to-back RHL champ QB, for the TC or LC qb? They are running the spread option because of #4. Combined run/pass yds: Moore=1187, Smith=1287 and Bueno=1123 Combined run/pass TDs: Moore=14, Smith=10 and Bueno=11 . By the way, Bueno is 17 and 3 as a varsity quarterback.

FB Einstein, maybe you should take the 'Einstein' out of your name? Actually, you haven't given him any dues whatsoever. Monrovia is 7-0 with #4 at the helm. You even said he fits well. Any good coach will design his offensive scheme around the personnel he has, and right now it's working great with #4. Don't start pitting these kids against each other and let Maddox speak for himself. By the way, what did #4 ever do to you? He's only 16 years old, let it go. Worry about your QB.

We do have Running,Passing,Defense, and athletes at every position.

FB Einstein: Bueno is the focal point of the M-town offense, if you haven't noticed. They run the spread option, meanining he decides who gets the ball during the play. He also is given the green light to audible on the line of scrimmage. By the way, he looked to be fine and in great spirits after the game, running over to the TC side to say hello to his old friends, Tinsley and Gibson.

I loved hearing that PHS went with a double-wing. It is the opposite philosphy of the spread, and it's a lineman's dream of pulling, trapping and double teaming.

#4 would not last if he was the focal point on offense. He was showing the affects of those QB draws early in the game and was slow getting up each time. At one point one of his o-linemen helped him limp back to the huddle. He doesn't throw from the pocket and when he does boot he throws it up. When he does complete passes its when the defense is overreacting to the play action. He is quick and elusive but he posed no threat to TC or SM in back to back weeks. Without that ground game he would be just like La Salle's QB....running for his life!

Listen. Nick can pass just fine. We need guys to step up and catch some balls.

Miguel, I dont know if you noticed that our first string kicker was on the sidelines for what reason I dont know, but our backup kicker was summoned from the Freshman team and did a hell of a job although he missed a couple of extra points, his potential seems to very promising. Our punt team led by Lowden the punter didn't do so bad. Lowden is know from putting the ball into orbit, but sometimes you just has to give the guy a little rest after playing both way.

FB Einstein. I'll assume you don't follow Monrovia football too much just by your comment alone that #4 is of little threat. Defensive coordinators have had to adjust just to make sure they have containment on him. Which then opens up lanes for the RBs. Most of the games(if not all) they've played so far, defenses have been focusing on him. But now with the emergence of #27, I'm interested to see how defenses will adjust. Over 700 yards on the ground, 400 yards in the air on only 50 attempts, and is of little threat?

Temple city isn't the same anymore..whoever saw the game last year knows that..temple city barely lost last year 13-7 in the final mins of the game..temple city doesn't have the team that they have had in the past..Justin smith is not even as close to being as good as Morgan hatch was last year..temple city had threats at the wideout position..they had Kenny Werner and Gianni Bruno Lopez and sometimes Christian Cano too..Kenny and Gianni made it so easy for Morgan to connect and find them in the open field..they both had speed and size and made defensive backs and safeties look ridiculous..the wideouts for temple city this year can't even compare to the wideouts that temple city has had in the past and last year too..Ima rams fan but I don't like what the new coaching staff is doing at temple city..temple city is a smash mouth running team and not a spread offense team but if they were a spread offense team last year..they woulda killed it..mtown deserved to win last night becuz they have a better team but last year was a different story..temple city took it to them and showed them they had alottuh of talent

I think that when you dissect the game a bit further you will come to the conclusion that White didn't have as many options as TC fans are quite used to. Max being the only real go to guy has a lot on his plate to stay healthy and become a factor in the late season. I still believe that TC will reach at least the quarter final round in the Mid valley Possibly even the Semi's again. So having Ruckle healthy would be my main concern. Playoffs you unleash all of his game because you have nothing to lose. I dont remember seeing any other running back other than Max touch the ball. He and DeShawn both had about the same number of carries, but remember we still utilized Johnson towards the end of the game to keep the ball in our hands and wear down the TC defense. That's were the balance favored Monrovia and the fact that we didn't turn the ball over. If I were White I would try and find anyone to carry the ball from time to time and not worry so much about trying to swing a pass off the line of scrimmage. San Marino should give you guys a great test leading into the playoffs. Win or lose you will know which direction you will need to pursue in order to further your chances in the post season.

FB Einstein: You are wrong about #4Bueno. He will be a thorn on your side for another year. The coaches are keeping him from doing too much and letting other weapons get their touches. They want him healthy for cif.

Riley will be 100% for next week. They wanted to keep him off the field for the end of the game so he wouldn't really hurt it before league. Obviously for the fact that league is more important. We still did it without him baby!

I think that your QB did his job as best as he could under the circumstances. Your receivers were hit and miss type receivers they let a lot of balls go through their hands. Question, If you had the luxury of having running backs that could break the big one wouldn't you do the same thing? Thats what wins Ball games. We have another weapon that although is not as quick as Ramirez has the same potential, his name is Michael Harris #28 and he's also just a sophomore, As well as #6 Bubba Johnson having another year together these three should be wreaking havoc on defense's for the next couple of years. And Nick will always be a threat in case you didn't notice he has still been working on his passing game. Usually he would just run but I think that the coaches have been telling him to believe in his passing abilities. Against the last 3 regular season teams he will have plenty of opportunity to do just that. I't s tough changing what you love to do in the middle of the season.

You name names on our lineman (kids by the way) then state only two are legitimate lineman. You never see GA insulting a kid on this blog and putting his name in print- not in 6 years.

If this is the new direction for TC, one of excuses made by those in charge and insults to our players made publicly it appears Temple City football is in dire jeopardy and time has come to raise the awareness to those who need to know and are capable of doing something about it.

I see your frustration - mine is equal.
You have the power to make a difference.
Push for excellence from our kids and stop saying what they cannot do...it is contagious and has already spread. Temple City has always done more with what we have than any area team. That is solid coaching.

I will continue to support as I have and do whatever I can to see our seniors get a fair shake. Mooney and Backus lived with criticism and harsh observations, plenty of it from me..but in the end their character was unquestioned and still is.

I agree Goldenarm. The two horrible calls in the first half cost TC a chance at winning. That was not a fumble nor was that pass interference...each costing the Rams 14 points before half. Monrovia played well but like all M-town teams they don’t do anything great except wait for their speedy RB to find a seam and outrun everyone. #4 posses little threat but #27 is going to be a thorn in the sides of the Rams for years to come. I could rant and rave about the offensive play calling and wonder why in the hell Ruckle only touched the ball 10-11 times but at this point I know I would be wasting my breath. I will say this however, if you’re going to run play-action every down it might help to actually RUN THE BALL so the defense doesn’t tee-off of the QB.

I respect a value your opinions. But I have to clearly disagree with you. The new age for offenses these days is the spread offense. You see it in the NFL and college football and it is now trickling down into the high school level. it you were watching the same game I was you would have seen that the play calling was for the most part balanced. It was 60/40 pass to run. From my seat in the stands (which isn't that great) the o-line was no where to be seen. Missed blocks by the left side the whole night. The only legitimate lineman that are there are O'Malley and Sutton. Smith, Troung, Lumary and Jara are average at best. Everyone talks about the line being the strongest point of the team and all the hoop-la but in all honesty the o-line and the defensive backs are the weakness of the team. The few play we ran to slow up the pass rush who eaten up by Lowden and Johnson. I remember the screen where as soon as the ball was snapped Smith had defenders in his face and Ruckle not even knowing it. Also with the draws. there were 3 run all night and no where to go. When your o-line doesn't run block you have to throw and when they don't pass block you have to run and when they don't do either you are in a bad spot. Ruckle makes most of the plays he breaks by himself. the line has no push and all they credit they recieved was pre-concieved. They haven't done a thing to back up the praise they got. Goldenarm if you are so well schooled or voiced maybe you should have the balls to tell the coaching staff yourself instead of on this blog.

By our making, we have abandoned our running game and against Monrovia, had no clear game plan except to pass the football, regardless of down and distance.

With this strategy and plan, we could play Monrovia 100 times and lose 99 times. The one win would come only because Monrovia got tired of beating us, and Josh Lowden had come to like and respect Ruckle so much
he ordered his team mates - to simply turn away and let Max score at will.

M-town blitzed and teed off on the pass rush all night...and why not...no fear of the run. No draws, no screens, no visible counterattack to backers becoming rushers...just Justin using his athleticism to flee large men attacking the pocket.

I could not see the fumble/incompletion or whatever happened on the far side of the field which turned into a M-town touchdown. I did however, see the very late flag and horrible, mindless INT call on TC which was a pivotal bad call - since it allowed Monrovia to eventually score on a drive that in reality had been stopped.
It does not help the refereeing situation when your head coach repeatedly goes out to the center of the field and harasses the refs about their calls. What is the chance the coaches complaint will overturn the call? Nil. All that is accomplished is you make an enemy of the ref crew...and you lose your focus on the immediate need to LOOK AHEAD to the upcoming play, series and ballgame.

Coaches...you push the kids to be productive...but seem satisfied with yourselves that we now have a better passing game. The truth is - the task is to win the game. We have the San Gabriel Valleys most productive running back, 4 of 5 lineman returning from a 3000 yard rushing season....and we pass 8 or 10 consecutive times in a row. OUR VERY FIRST HANDOFF...on his first touch, Max goes 47 yards for a touchdown. Please....if you can't call a running play - at least try to balance the attack. Time of possession killed us last night, as we repeatedly handed the ball back to Monrovia's talented offense and kept our D on the field all night. Anywhere on the planet earth - that is a recipe for disaster.

Congratulations to Coach Maddox and all the Monrovia kids.

I guess that answers the question, "What will St. Francis do without Riley?' Just go out and win the biggest game in 27 years. This team is packed with ball players. This could be their year. Way to go Golden Knights, enjoy this one, you deserve it!

Dietrich Riley has only a mild hamstring pull. He was stretched and worked on back at the school. He can walk on it, but hes on crutches to stay off of it, so hes 100% for league play.

As I was standing along the Monrovia sidelines that questionable call that Craig Brown took to the house was indeed a fumble both refs saw the guy take control of the ball and ran into two Wildcat players it seemed that once he realized he was in Bad company he PANICKED and gave the ball up almost instantaneously to Craig Brown.. By the Way DeShawn scored 3 td's two of which went for over 75 yards and one that went for close to 40 yards. Maddox now realizes that this kid can carry a team on his shoulders and should be seeing lots of action from here on out.

Well, Apache Joe ask the TC faithful about the likes of DeShawn Ramirez and his 4.3 40... He is the Real Deal and Coach Maddox let him out of the Bag tonight. I figured if he carried the ball more than 15 times a game that he would show people why the hype is pretty high on this kid. TC played probably the best game against the Best team all season. They shouldn't run into too many more problems in the RHL except for San Marino, that should be a great game. I expect both San Marino and TC go far into the play offs and meet up with Monrovia in the Semi's and maybe even the Finals. Ruckle had a great first half. He put fear into the Monrovia fans unfortunately not the players.

Arcadia out played burroughs and had them on their toes. Arcadia can't get a break. Arcadia's QB fumbled 4th and goal on the one inch line (3rd qtr), score is 19-21 burroughs I believe, so he fumbles and burroughs get a good bounce on the fumble and returned it 99 yards. The future looks bright though. Six sophomores played in the game and did very well.

I heard that Riley has a hamstring injury and it is possibly season ending. Ouch this could be a huge loss for the Golden Knights.

Dietrich Riley went out of the game with a undisclosed leg injury late in the 3rd quarter and didn't return to the game. Nonetheless, the Golden Knights didn't give up and scored their first points of the 2nd half with 33 seconds left in the game with a short 6-yard TD toss by Posthuma to Talianko. Absolute bedlam ensued in the Golden Knight stands (which were absolutely packed) when the line judge raised his arms in the air to signal the touchdown.

When that clock hit 0:00, we finally celebrated. Though we don't play Loyola in football every year (like we did when I was a Golden Knight), they are stiil out most hated rival - by far. It's still a very contentious rivalry (Loyola is in the Mission League for all other sports).

This win means so much to the Golden Knight players, coaches, adminstration, staff and alumni (and their were a lot of alumns there tonight).

The bigger task at hand starts next week with league action kicking up.

But for tonight, The Golden Knight community will be celebrating!

Monrovia leads 19-14 at the half. Temple City scored in the final 47 seconds of the second quarter on a 47 yard touchdown pass from Justin Smith to Andrew Torres. Temple City has been victim of two horrible calls, one which led to a 37 yard fumble return from Monrovia's Craig Brown, giving the Wildcats a 19-7 lead. The Rams have played solid defense and even once stopped Monrovia in the red zone. Overall it's been a stale game, but it has had its moments. Let's see how the second half unfolds.

random, St. Francis vs Loyola is no rivalry. Sure St Francis is playing well this year and Loyola is trying to turn a program around that was dismanteld by their former coach. This could be the year for the Knights. With that said, Loyola looks at St. Francis as if they had to play a freshman team. They look forward to playing teams like LB Poly, Mater Dei, ect not St. Francis so hopefully they will be looking past the Knights to next weeks opener.

You make some great points but you left out a few that can also come into play:

As bad as M-town is at passing, TC is even worse at covering the pass. M-town would be wise to take a shot at some point because it would not hurt and it will keep TC honest.

TC does not control the clock like they used to and this could allow M-towns offense to get into rhythm. SM did a great job controlling the clock last week and that was one of the main reasons M-town could not get a flow going. TC has way too many three and outs where they don't even take a minute off of the clock. That cannot happen tonite because if you give speed too many chances it will eventually get you.

TC's QB has not been tested to date and all of the praise might be premature. We should find out tonite if he really is legit.

Not to take anything away from these two good teams..

but Loyola vs St Francis

St Francis coming off a tough loss to a great ND team, while Loyola is coming off a big win against an undefeated Chaminade team.

in my opinon thats going to be the game of the week.

but Monrovia vs TC will be a thriller as well.

I have a feeling that this could be the breakout game all of the Wildcat faithful have awaited. We have some very good players that have not of yet had an opportunity to play 4 quarters, this may be the game in which all of the stars get a chance to shine. With the RHL up for grabs this gave will be pivotal in ever stretch. TC has some very promising players on that team as well. I will try and evaluate their + & -'s.

Temple City Plus's

1. Max Ruckle= Senior leadership- Confidence- Great hole reader. all around good running back.

2. Justin Smith- Athletic, getting his rhythm in the nick of time ( Although he will face a much different Defense tonight.
3. Defense- The TC defense takes up all of the spots on the leaders board in the RHL except for Josh Lowden.

Temple City Weakness
1. Allows for the big plays.
2. Slow Starts not able to put the game in hand before halftime.
3 special teams play has no major threats.

Monrovia's plus's
1. Nick Bueno- Although mainly a running QB he is the most dominant player on the field. Being able to control the game with his running style has put most teams on their heels all night long.
2 Derrick Johnson- One of the most feared players to ever step on the field for the Wildcats, has the moves of a great running back and power to keep on moving forward for another 5 yards. And what's even scarier is that he is just as devastating on the Defensive side of the ball.
3. DeShawn Ramirez- Put wheels and moves on Marquise Williams and you have yourself a young running back named DeShawn Ramirez. I feel that this could be his breakout game to carry the ball at least 15-20 times. He's primed to be the next best Back in the SGV.
4 The Monrovia D led by Senior Leader Josh Lowden, this year he is 100% healthy and shows it every time he steps out on the field. He leads a special group of Lowden Groupies to a defensive feast on other offenses, These guys are tenacious on every play.

Monrovia's weakness's
1. Team Coordinator's not having players prepared for quick changes after turnovers or 4th down attempts. Need to get on that because it causes delay of game penalties that are very unnecessary.

2. Passing assignments need to improve with our 2nd team secondary. Last week we made several mistakes by bringing in new Safety's & Corners that have never even played that position. And it showed.
3. I would say the passing game, but if you have a running game like ours, Who needs to pass!

I don't think any of us bloggers have a clue what the game plan is. I'm anticipating, hopefully, a 2009 USC-Notre Dame type of matchup (with Monrovia repping USC of course).

It sounds like the Cat fans are planning to just pound you guys all night. If that is the case, I think that will play in your favor. It will be a war of a game i'm predicting, and I also predict Bueno will be exposed tonight. There's no way to completely shut the kid down, he will get his yds rushing, but if Cats are on their heals and forced to throw, that will be key for Rams tonight. Either way should be a WAR!

I'd have to say this years rival game, has a bit more hype than it has in the past couple of years. usually t.c. has their running back and their great offensive line, monrovia has the studs at the skilled positions, or we have a good QB along with the studs. This year....T.C. getting a hold of their spread offense. Rams coming alive with the good play of smith&ruckle. Monrovia with its stable of running backs. The great play of bueno. I mean this game is gonna be something great!!! So there were T.C. players&Coaches at the san marino game???? Cuz they beat LC on thurs right?? Hmmmm I dont know, maybe maddox had this all planned out. If so, a little too close for comfort i think. But I dont know. Ive been criticizing SM all year with their weak pre-league schedule. And I still have one eye brow on them, but Im sure they fought hard, and they do play smart ball always. But I just always think they dont have the talent to win the league title out-right! Thats my opinion and Ima stick to it! But we'll see when SM faces LC and TC, that will tell me alot, one if they win one of those games and two how they did it. but anyways I cant wait for this game, Go CATS show em last week was a fluke. I like to see people and organizations receive proper credit/respect. San Marino is playing good football. They have some wide, able-bodied football players and good coaches. The kids play with heart, smarts and hustle.

Monrovia was definitely off last week, but some of that is attributable to San Marino's game plan and execution.

This week: Monrovia needs to keep our pad level low on the line, take care of the football, play fast and aggressive for four quarters and leave it on the field.

Gotta say, you have done a great job setting up tonight's match up..and you can sense from your storyline that even MM is fired up too see how this game unfolds.

TC must display defensive aggression at a higher level tonight and refuse to be blocked. San Marino did us no favor by sticking an M-80 into the butt pads of the Wildcats.. The bye lulled them into sluggishness...but that won't be the case tonight.

Critical that we get a good start and avoid turnovers.
Special teams advantage must go to the Rams.
I am looking forward to seeing how our O-line responds to the challenge.

Minimizing Ruckle's production and making TC one dimensional needs to be a priority. That task may be as painful as boxing Mickey Ward, but we've got to get it done.
