Maddox: Mid Valley Division title goes through Paraclete

| | Comments (11) |

If you're Monrovia (7-0, 2-0) how do you stay pumped when you're going up against the likes of South Pasadena, La Canada and Blair? You remember that if you don't beat those teams there's a good chance you drop from the No. 1 ranking in the CIF-SS Mid Valley Division. But even so, Paraclete is the defending Mid Valley Division champion. They put a whoop on Rosemead last year and if the Wildcats are to claim a CIF championship they realize it's Paraclete's to defend first.

"Absolutely," Monrovia coach Ryan Maddox said. "They proved last year that they're the team to beat. Until somebody in our division beats them and as long as they come out of their league on top, which in all likelyhood will happen, they're the team to beat."

Desert Rat, Spirit Xpress, what have you say?

I agree with ny, that was good analysis. The Desert rat is right when he said you guys take scouting to a whole another level. Now I have to address ignornace once again:

Everyone knows how WEAK the mid-valley division is!!!! Your not telling anyone anything new!!!!
The RHL is a weak league too!! So is some other leagues as well. I like a league is like the Big XII south last year, and the SEC of a few years back where you never know who is gonna come out on top, but that is never gonna happen until Someone changes our league up a little bit. Because its always gonna be T.C. and Monrovia. Would love SP,LC,SM and Blair to get in the mix on a consistent basis but its wishful thinking.
But I expect the RHL and VVL to make some noise. I think it'd be nice to have their top three against ours. as far as the mission league and montview league going pass the first round. I honestly dont see it happening. Its going to be a triple threat league in the playoffs The RHL (Monrovia, TC/SM, TC/SM/LC) Vs. The Valle Vista (San Dimas, Baldwin Park, Pomona?) VS. The Olympic League (Paraclete, Village Christian, Valley Christian) Do you guys get 3teams in the playoffs??
Desert Rat or ny lil help. thats it!!! Until then, the teams I mentioned gotta take care of there remaining schedule so they can make the playoffs! So the best of luck to all three leagues to finish and win-out or come close to it to get a playoff berth

SpiritXpress,

Nice rundown. The last thing Monrovia or any other team needs to do is look ahead. Last year the Valle Vista teams were eliminated early even though they had so much praise going into the playoffs.

Reno has seen plenty of football through the years. The Mid Valley Division is one of the weakest divisions CIF has put together. All the MVD needs is Kilpatrick, who hasn't played several games due to a riot (Where is the Rock when you need him!) and Saint Alfreds School of the Blind. It is M-Town and Paraclete. Period. The MVL is horrible; who will be that league's #3? The RHL has some real weak sisters. Does the Montview get 4 teams because the league is good? No, there are 8 teams in the league. Uhm... the Valle Vista top three will make noise this year more than last year; two to the semi-finals. The MVD is weak; Numbers 4 or 5 in the Pacific, Mount Baldy or Baseline leagues would be division contenders. Don't kid yourselves. M-Town, Reno says win the ring before this division disappears like a pot of gold!

Yep, 07 was a good one. And yes, I've seen you guys this year. I know what you got in that there backfield of yours. Know about the defense too. I like what I see.

there are many competitive teams out there that differ from last years race to the playoffs.

1) monrovia... fast strong and disciplined maddox has got a bueno (good) thing going there. his players always come to play. to me there defense is under looked because of their potent offense giving up only 12 points a game remember defense wins championships.

2) San dimas... they have some good players we have had the pleasure to sit and talk to their coaches they are a class act program we will see how they handle baldwin park another good program. the one thing about dimas is there offense they have weapons. and thing when ran right is hard to stop.

3) arroyo... there has been a lot of talk about them especially over summer when they competed in many passing leagues to me they are a sleeper.

4) azuza... made a strong showing last year with a good defense eventually leading to loss by TC. they are looking to defend their crown as the league champs and have another good showing in playoffs.

5)paraclete... if they can stay healthy should be fun to watch. injury has hurt them all year. main loss is the all cif cat #51 they dont have great offensive stats but i think you no why lol (check out their schedule)they are only focused on one thing and that is village. one game at a time one play at a time that"s there motto.

And finally the dark horses form oother leagues. temple city, san marino, baldwin park, rosemead, la punte, gladstone and pomona

from are league its a toss up

valley (4-3)... is solid good defense high powered offense competitive should be a league title game in next few weaks.

Village (6-1)... this is a good squad of kids fast and run the wing t and veer scoring 40 points a game. could be a sleeper to paraclete.

and Whittier christian (4-3)... i no you are all like what they are 0-2 in league but they have weapons and are young to me they have one of the best players in the division in #55 he is 6-4 270 strong fast getting looked at by pac 10 schools and is only a jr. in my opinion should be the at large team or third place team in league

the division is a toss up but i feel that there are a few schools that can compete up divisions and we will see who they are in the semis and finals

much love SGV see ya tomorrow north view and baldwin park

Desert Rat,
You hit it right on. Both teams got to take it one game at a time. You saw Rovia at one of your games??? hmmm better be prepared than not. Yeah I was at that game in 2007. I hope its an even better game than that. I thought our play calling was a lil weak, and our defense was somewhat weak too. I know you guys have some tough games coming up before playoffs. While the cats....dont. I hope CIF puts us at opposite ends, it would be nice. But theres going to be spoilers both teams have to wacth out for

I'll admit, that is a nice pic right there. Maddox is right they are the champs, but he knows that this years team in comparison to last years will go far in the playoffs. And rosemead being Sumler-less. M-town should be smooth sailing until at least semi finals. keyword SHOULD.

It's nice to hear praise coming from Coach Maddox and M-Town. That is, considering no one really knew what to expect from us last year.

I know how dialed in he has the squad and staff this year. I even saw Rovia scouting - at the least - one of our games. From what I gather here (from Miguel and the posters), it looks like they're doing a lot right things out there. We got nothing but respect for the Cats. They have some good weapons on both sides of the ball. Paraclete is going to have to address that when and if we meet. I would love to hook-up again. Our game in '07 was a really good nail biter. I suspect that if we did meet again, it would be one for the ages.

But honestly, both teams have to work towards whatever conclusion that may draw out at a week's pace. We can't get too ahead of ourselves. And like Miguel stated, how does Rovia not get complacent playing the likes of teams they should dominate? They simply have to maintain the right mindset and continue to work hard. Remaining #1 in the polls can either be a gift or a curse. It just depends on how you handle it.

Paraclete's path is a little different. We know what it takes to get back there, but it's all in execution. While we're playing some good ball (and I said it before), I truly think our best ball is ahead of us. We had a rough patch, but it has only made us stronger. We're just as talented as last year but in different ways. The focus is not on one or two players. We're gonna find multiple ways to beat teams. And that's what the preseason has really been about. For the coaches, it's been finding out what 11 players on each side of the ball are going to give us the best chances to win. For the players, it's been about developing and maintaining their own identity and stamp to put on it this year. Defensively, we're really sound....probably better as unit this year than last year. Offensively, we're about the turn the corner. The next two weeks will give us a really good indication where we're at.

But like I said...one week at a time. There are some good teams in our respective leagues that we have to deal with first. Then we have a division that has some good and established programs we're going to have to get past first....that is, if we get our wish and CIF puts us in opposite ends of the pairings. Come the third week in December...if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. The Cats will be looking to light the hill and we'll be looking to cut the power lines.
