Stop trying to establish a battle of wits and give up defending your pathetic position as no one cares about your political orientation or your religious beliefs. Maranatha is a "christian school" so it would only would stand to reason that you will get passionate debates when you try to argue to exclude God from the scene. So stop picking fights with Christian Schools because you will loose. You are only accenting your inaccurate and general lack of knowledge of prep football. You may want to try to stir up the AYSO soccer leagues with your detailed knowledge of sports. Cody Keith's is great kid, who has decided keep God in the center of his life who by the way, is a great QB.

Who would have known this topic would have morphed into a Channel 52 novella or a Channel 7 mid-day soap opera. We got insider trading, favoritism, payola, poltics aplenty, insults and call outs and now we even got the big G involved.
It might be best to keep the field level and as said in the Punisher "God is gonna sit this one out". It all boils down to a simple case of "do the right thing"...and should not require divine intervention to keep the parties from ripping out each others windpipe.

SGV football could benefit from the exposure and having another smart, talented kid in our midst is a good thing...something you would think everyone would see as a positive.

God is the MOST important part of the article so read it again and then talk about how you feel. Should he make it in D1 football or not, the most important thing is that he is a young man with a great faith in God.

Hey Paul, you have some great points there. But as a Dad well involved with the program I am referring to how they handled themselves as leaders, not ball players.

Factcheck: I was in the stands, when Schilz threw an interception and as soon as he saw it he started walking off the field. His team was chasing the ball and he could care less. Murphy went nuts.

I do not want this place to turn to ugly but as with most programs if you knew the history you would understand. If you want I can make it public but I'd rather not. I was heavily involved with the program so I know the kid all too well.

And if it would not cause such a hassle I'd tell you my name, but in this politically correct world I'd be in trouble.

Matt has skills, is a good baller, no doubt, but thats not what I was referring to. I am talking about leadership. Cody has it in spades and last year Matt was still developing it.

As far as Cody goes, we agree, great kid and I hope he goes farther than he dreams!

Check the kids highlight film out...He can make all the passes.
Now to comment on his character...Cody Keith played La Salle week two, they just came off a loss to Linfield Christian (I believe). It was a huge rivalry game between La Salle and Maranatha. Maranatha ended up losing that game 21 to 14. Cody Keith went up to several La Salle players and congratulated them on a well fought game and said GOOD GAME to many of them...That in its own is CLASS. Too lose to a rival and act in that way is CLASS. So you all need to back off and give the kid some credit. To somewhat quote the Bible...He who has not sin may cast the first stone. (Or something like that). I mean really do we need to put down a 17 or 18 year old. Get a grip and be happy for the kid. Cody Keith=CLASS ACT.
I dont even know him in any way, but from his actions...His parents did something right.

Where is that "former" QB playing now? Oh that's right at a D1 school on a full ride! Red shirted freshman (back up starter) will be starting next year...Not to bad!
As far as Keith goes, he is a great great kid. Remember all you jerks that are reaming him in such a judgmental way... He is just a TEENAGER that is striving to do something the majority of bloggers on here have NEVER DONE. And more impressively, he is striving under extreme amounts of pressure! National attention and camera crews. Whether this is because of his parents or not... LOVE THIS KID for not falling apart and really trying to stick it out! What would you do? In fact, what is it that you do do? I do hope Cody makes it and becomes everything he wishes to become (a household name on a collegiate level or even more), because then he can look back at you people and either thank you for motivating him with your negativity or at least laugh in your faces! I'm sure he'll only do the first!
At the end of the day... The a**hole Miguel (and his one sided love of certain Pasadena teams - you are pathetic Miguel) is the reason for all the attention on Cody Keith. So once again, the MEDIA is to blame. But what is that famous quote? "Bad press is good press"! Maybe Mr. Keith is bringing more of a spotlight on Cody by paying Miguel to run the article on Cody.... again!

Just one more thought...I think what has hurt Cody this year is that Maranatha has run the ball very effectively and the O-Line has not given him very much time when they did need to pass. In my opinion, he may look average but he has the tools, the character and the drive to be successful so he would be a great kid to put on many College rosters and give him a shot.

Not to knock the kid, but he is an average quarterback with tremendous assistance available to him. Kudos to him and his family for being able to provide him with tools to build his skill up.

Having a child who plays at a D1 school on a scholarship I am well aware of how parents can either help the process or hinder the process.

I haven't met the boy nor seen him play. He is very fortunate to have a family that have the resources to help him.

I'm glad you are not drawing comparisons because there IS no comparison here to the story you just mentioned.
It's always interesting to see how many bloggers come out and talk without thinking too much. This article is more about showing what kind of kid he is and that HIS goal is to play D1 football not his father's. Of course there IS nothing wrong with playing D2, D3 or NAIA for that matter and his father is just a great dad who is able to afford Steve Clarkson Training and the benefits of having Steve promote him. Cody is only one of many in that list including the Montana kids and several others.

Do you any of watch "Friday Night Lights" - the TV show? They have a story line where they have this quarterback and the dad is so overbearing and so obnoxious that he ends up getting the head coach fired - gets all of the boosters on his side and is also physically abusive to his son.

I AM NOT DRAWING COMPARISONS - but with that being said if the young man here wants to be a quarterback and play for a D1 school - then cool. If this is about his Dad wanting it more - than not so cool.

Your kids grow up quickly - the hardest part about parenting is not living your lost dreams or fantasies through the kid.

I only wish the best for this young man and his family. And there is no shame in playing for a D2 school or a JC.

Gotemgo: well said, the exact same advice i'm giving to my two boys.

You know, all that is happening is that Miguel posted something about a local player that was on Yahoo/Rivals.com. I am sure he is a great kid, but if you garner publicity, you better be able to withstand the glare of the spotlights.

The truth is, there are only about 11,000 D-1 scholarships. We all want to see our kids play on Saturdays with that D-1 scholarship, but the odds are not there.

I never based my retirement plans or college plans for my son on his athletic ability; I told him to keep his grades up, and do what you need to do to get into college without sports - sports would be a plus. I would advise the kid keep his grades up, and focus on the college he wants - financial aid should not be an issue.

I have seen too many parents and kids drink the Kool-Aid of athletic glory - why not focus on life?

If you got the dough, you can do a lot of stuff for your kids to get them exposure they would otherwise not receive. Just hooking up with the Clarkson private QB program at $600 per month will get the kid some looks by various colleges. I am sure his family is doing all this and more. and if we all had that kind of dough, I'm sure we'd all lay it out for our kids.

Years ago (maybe 10?) there was a kid who was going to a private school and then decided to play at Muir for his senior year. He I think was a quarterback - I don't remember - but I remember that there was a big stink because his parents had money - he was transferring in because his dad worked in Pasadena and he had a "training" coach and he was trying to get a big scholarship.

Sadly there was a big hullabaloo because he was white too. Anyway - does anyone know what happened to him or where he ended up?

Just leave the kid alone and let him do what he loves to do. The attention he is getting is because of him and God's purpose for his life and not his parents money. I am sick and tired of people ragging on people because they have money. I'm sure you probably don't have money because you did not work hard enough so don't talk about that. Cody is a tremendously fine young man with loads of talent and potential. We have not seen the best of him yet and I believe the he is getting this coverage because God wants him to. What we should look at here is that even though he is talented and getting attention, he deals with it in a much better way then most young athletes would. He is very mature for an 18 year old kid and this article proves that. Weather or not he gets a scholarship, he CAN and WILL play D1 college football and with the right system and coaches, he will be successful. Love this kid!!!

Why don’t you take a cue from Fred and be more creative and do a “projection” playoff bracket or is that asking too much for a so called “sports” writer who happens to think wearing UCLA shirts are something to be proud of…….Do us all here at Maranatha a favor by not doing us any favors. PS, AK if you are a member of the Maranatha community shame on you for calling out and labeling one of our own, you obviously are more concerned with the success of your own child but try to mask it with a general “there are plenty of other QB’s out there with better stats, blah blah blah comment” Try and remember why you choose to send your child or children to Maranatha in the first place. While I do agree that because he has advantages there is no reason to be negative, however it is unfair that he receives national attention. I am a fan of MHS sports and have nothing against the young man. He seems well mannered and has got along great with everyone at the school it seems. However, I feel that it is unfair that he receives the publicity he does mainly because his parents have a lot of money. He works hard, but so do many other football players who will not get even a fraction of this press. If he was putting up stellar stats thats one thing, but he is not, he has simply received this attention because of his parents and that is not fair to athletes who work hard but do not have the advantages he has.
What message is this sending athletes today? Their are many QB's in the SGV alone, let alone the country, who have better stats than him but do not receive any press for their hard work. Therefore, articles like this give off the message that to get recognized you have money. I feel that hard work and performance should be the basis for giving someone so much attention and this article was clearly not written because of his talents but rather his family's wealth and connections with Steve Clarkson.
Altogether, I thought the article was straight forward though, and I wish the kid luck, I just don't agree with the fact he is getting national attention when his talent as a QB is average at best.

I know the haters will be calling out against this kid, but while he may have had advantages many of us did not, thats no reason to be negative.

I have met, been impressed and am a fan of Cody. He is a classy kid WHO works hard, very hard. That alone would be something considering our former QB's attitude, but he is a nice young man who is humble and wants to be a team player.
