Saturday Night Aftermath: Monrovia and San Dimas will meet in next week's Mid Valley Division finals; Rio Hondo Prep, Linfield Christian meet in Northeast Division.

MONROVIA 35, WHITTIER CHRISTIAN 32
It was sloppy, but Monrovia High School will take it.
The top-seeded Wildcats were hurt by penalties and had to rally in the second half to escape with a 35-32 victory over Whittier Christian on Saturday night in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division playoffs.
Monrovia (13-0) will make its eighth finals appearance in school history next Saturday when it faces No. 2 seed San Dimas (12-1) at a site to be determined. The Saints are hoping to avenge their only loss, a 36-17 defeat to Monrovia in September. At the time, many already thought the game was a preview of the Mid-Valley Division finals, and now they have it.
Whittier Christian (9-4), the No. 3 team out of the Olympic League, put a scare into Monrovia, which twice trailed by 10 points and had a difficult time establishing any offensive rhythm.
Whittier Christian trailed by 11 late in the fourth quarter and got to within three points after Heralds quarterback Stephen Anderson connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Grant Escobar and Garrett Fulbright ran in the two-point conversion, but an onside kick was recovered by Monrovia's Charlie Cimmarusti to all but seal the outcome.
RIO HONDO PREP 24, SALESIAN 14
Under the most improbable scenario, Rio Hondo Prep defeated visiting Salesian 20-14 in their CIF-Southern Section Northeast Division semifinal Saturday.
The defending champs were reduced to using Jake Hanna at quarterback in the second half because the starting quarterback, backup quarterback and junior varsity quarterback all were unavailable.
The Kares (13-0) also repelled multiple Mustangs drives in the second half to hold the lead and advance to next Saturday's division championship game against Linfield Christian.
Starter Chris Llamas was hurt on a Salesian sack midway through the second quarter and the senior was taken away by ambulance. Backup J.T. Parker was hurt on the Kares' first defensive series, and JV quarterback Cody Rivera did not dress because of injury, leaving the quarterback duties to Jake Holguin. The freshman orchestrated one unsuccessful drive before Hanna took the final snap of the half on a kneel down.
Before Llamas was hurt, he led the Kares to a 14-0 lead.

This post was very nicely written, and it also contains many useful facts. I enjoyed your distinguished way of writing this post. Thanks, you have made it very easy for me to understand.
I am very glad to see some very strong politically/environmentally critical paintings from you; it also intrigues me to see a little bit of retro-Anthony painting style in composition, from my point of view. Does the political aspect influence earlier times of your artistic skills to out-picture unconsciously? Anyway, I am really happy to be able to enjoy seeing the images of these lovely yet disturbing paintings and hope this idiocy by the bureaucrats will be taken further than they even considered to be the results of their ugly actions.
Outstanding piece, thanks for sharing!
Nice post. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up!
Tile, then put your cabinets in. Your dishwasher will be hard to replace if you have to deal w/ a change in floor height (personal experience here!).
The core of your writing whilst appearing reasonable in the beginning, did not really settle perfectly with me after some time. Somewhere within the sentences you actually managed to make me a believer but just for a short while. I however have a problem with your jumps in assumptions and you might do well to fill in those gaps. In the event you actually can accomplish that, I would undoubtedly be impressed.
In general, you can choose any color you like, but for the adaptability, to neutral colors like gray, black, blue, brown, select white. Can any dress and a lift to be adjusted.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I can appreciate someone leaving a post on my blog to get a link or something but what gets to me the most is when what they say has absolutely nothing to do with my blog or the article they are posting on. At least challenge me to figure out if it is spam or not. Akismet does get rid of a lot of them though. I used to get at least 8-10 spam posts a day to the blogs I manage and now maybe one will slip through the cracks and that is one a week if that. Save yourself some time and hassle by using it. I guess my main question is… does it really help the google rankings? It is so unfair if it is where I am adding content to climb up rankings and some guy is spamming everyone to get ahead of me

Lindsay Lohan Moves to Rehab Today, She actually is purely repeating this for a stunt to diminish her sentencing in October or even completely dodge any incarceration. She is so clear and predictable.
The superstars of TLC's hot show "Sister Wives" right now being looked into by Utah authorities for possible felony bigamy, Kody Brown, and his four wives increasing publicity because of the TLC show started to engage the curiosity and suspicion in the police, truth be told, authorities reportedly all started examining the Brown family group ahead of when their tv series even premiered last Sunday.
If Emanuel soon is selected Chicago mayor, he'll almost certainly give new meaning to words 'swearing-in rite.'
Superb that Lindsay Lohan gets genuine with regards to herself, she needs to have treatment like Mel Gibson does need a psychiatrist, with luck this woman wouldn't get freed from treatment premature on this one as being released early from UCLA was likely the main grounds why this girl relapsed so soon in the first place, i'm just praying to help you completely Lindsay, seriously it's possible to master your problems.
Lindsay Lohan Will Go to Rehab Today. Great selection at minimum being in rehab will mean she should not infringe her bail conditions and be thrown in gaol till the hearing. If on the hearing her solitary violation has been determined for being the 1 bad illegal substance test then this sentence needs to be one month in jail and that is it.
All right friends, Lohan has returned to her traditional ways….Lindsay Lohan admitted to screwing up a court-ordered drug test last week. She tweeted this: “This was certainly a setback personally on the other hand I will be taking responsibility for my behavior and I’m willing to face the consequences.” Which means, maybe simply putting her in gaol for 14 days and rehabilitation for even less wasn’t the best idea!
Thank you for another fantastic posting. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a perfect way of writing? I have a speech next week, and I was looking for more info ;)
This reveals you get fired when you say improper things around Jews (Helen Thomas and here Sanchez).
My Christian theories inform me Jesus expects us to show other cheek. Thankfully we've been a nation that isolates the church and state; it's about time we as People today in america just explain Ahmadinejad to go to hell. For the UN, I'd personally favour my tax revenue sent on The Bridge to No Where. At a minimum we would have something to show for it.
I get home learning also that Rick Sanchez became terminated from CNN. Hmm. Sure, I saw that coming.
Lindsay Lohan Is going to Rehabilitation Now, She will be out by Friday. All it takes is a couple of days of feeling "wonderful", and she's going to assume she can do it now on her own. Had the experience... done that! (I'd like to get her doctor's telephone number? I had ADD).
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.

Avatar was a great movie, I just watched it a few day ago. I don't usually go to the theather because I get nervious around a lot people but I think I'll give this one a shot because people are saying that it's even better on the big screen, I think it might be in 3D. You can watch it at my new website.
Finchamp,
The adoration and respect is mutual.
The Game played on the first Saturday before Thanksgiving is always special; this year was no exception. Winning 10-7, the Eli opted to go for it on 4th and 22 on their side of the field. The only time a 20 yard gain is no good is when you need 22...a couple plays later it was 14-10 for another Crimson victory. It was enjoyable day in New Haven at the Bowl.
Goldenarm and New York--
Kind responses indeed. I have read your posts (occassionally) throughout the year. Your following and insights continue to be well-founded and clear. The blog is better because of you. Would love to meet you guys someday.
Oxy/Pomona is the rivalry for "The Drum." Ah the history. Anything like Harvard/Yale?
Look for big things in HS next year (currently as well) from my daughter Hannah. Google search will detail much of her accomplishments.
Back to matters at hand. Best of luck, especially for the seniors, to Rio Hondo Prep and Monrovia this Saturday. I miss the feeling I got on Fridays knowing my son would be in action later that night.
Paul,
Describe it in context visa vis Tigers vs. Leopards or even Tigers vs.Sagehens....I'm sure it was a classic football match in its purest form. The true fans of the game really don't mind the condition of the pitch.

I had forgotten your skill with the written word. Great post.
I must find my way to a RHP game.
I got a few chuckles out of the 80+ posts on this thread. I was at the game. While it was "one for the ages" it was ugly in spurts. When flags go flying with regularity it is extremely disruptive to the flow of a game. Initially they were against RHP, later in the game against Salesian--some of them timely or untimely depending on who you support.
I thought RHP could have won the game handily were it not for the loss of Parker and Llamas and Quintero briefly. It was a pretty hard hitting game but nothing over the top. Sometimes fans see an aggressive hit and think it is nasty but that's football provided the hit was a fair one. Salesian was flagged for most of their wrong-doings so it cost them--that's vindication by the flag. When the hit is unfair the only more punitive action is to toss a player out. I really didn't think I saw anything that warranted that action.
What a Salesian-type game does do is expose the "smallness" of RHP. Losing one player means losing three positions or more(Parker) but no less than two positions always because the best players always go both ways. And by the way, isn't that what we all wanted to do growing up?.....play both ways! If you were a competitor you did. Larger schools do well to protect their athletes by turning them into specialists and in many cases playing only offense or defense. Mind you I am aware that many other schools are playing their athletes on both sides of the ball these days--it's just nothing new at RHP.
What else isn't new at RHP is the feeling. The step back in time to families turning out to games in mass, the 11 man band, the kids who watch the players and dream of being out there one day in the black and red, the history, the Underdog cape wrapped around the team, the honor and history passed down through the staff and the responsibility to play as though everyone is watching your every move on every play.
So another CIF champiosnhip opportunity for the Kares. Whether they win or not they are champions and the same holds true for our brothers, the Wildcats. A true measure of a champion is not their behavior when they win but their behavior when they lose. I saw a real champion on Salesian at game end when he came over to RHP, shook hands, embraced and talked to the players. That is a memory I wish to remember about that game.
New York,
With your wordsmanship, such a venture actually has an appeal.
Unfortunately such things require a connection to the football community and mine has expired after 4 plus years.
The Temple City football program is at a real crossroads. Optimism alone does not shield or prevent decline.
The eagerness to change and dismantle may have outrun common sense. Penne pasta is good stuff, but meat and potatoes has been feeding hungry people longer and with greater consistency.
Success was assured without hiccup. The transition had it's perils and they were costly. Those who exited Backus based on a vision- own this, and own it entirely. They need to be reminded of it when the appropriate time arises.
Coach White is no quitter. Is he the right guy? I certainly hope he is. Maybe this season can be used as the foundation for good seasons ahead and be remembered as the only year Anthony White was unable to win the games that mattered. I truly wish Coach White and the Rams best of luck ahead. It won't be getting any easier with the improvements at LC and SM, and the green and white Dynasty up the street.
Good luck M-Town, keep representing the RHL well. Finish strong
Goldenarm,
You have a real opportunity to monitor games across the valley now that you will not have a conflict with TC games. You will be uniquely positioned to be the most informed blogger around. You could consider creating your own blog focused on SGV football.

Can't you see it happening? Your moving from the Local Mayor to the Area Blogressman. We know your love will not fade away.

where is the pump!!!
I'm ready for Lowden driving the party bus down Myrtle Ave! Lets get the W first!
Miguel,
Will there be an all-decade team like there was for the 1990's?
Whittier Christian gave monrovia a scare, but maddox has this team playing hard for four quarters, congrats to the coaching staff. Now to the finals, san dimas followers did some early talking saying if they got another crack at monrovia, that they would put 9,10 in the box. but the fact of the matter is, I really dont think it will matter. Bueno, is just too quick for san dimas's defense. Then add our stable of running backs, the saints defense will wear down. And thats when monrovia will strike first blood. This game will be close, san dimas will play with alot of heart, they came a long way, and their loss only being to the cats, shows that they want it bad! They also have a very good running game. San Dimas will put it all on the line, but our defense I think like someone said previous is a second faster than the saints
marching on:
Maybe you should march on into class instead.

posts are not getting through.......
O-Cat,
I think it is just a matter of getting the M-town kids prepared and UP for one last showdown. You would think it is automatic with the stakes involved, but it is really not that way. Maddox the Motivator likely has a plan, one he has been working on for many, many moons. San Dimas REALLY wants this - so Monrovia has got to want it more.
Weather looks iffy, the Cats might want to get some dry halftime clothes ready, change of socks, (dry jock beats a wet one any day)that kind of thing. Get the mid diggin cleats out, just in case.
Like we have been saying since waaaaaay back, it will be the M-town defense that seals the deal on an undefeated season and CIF championship. This group must come out and derail the San Dimas attack right from the start and force them to bend their game plan. Put them at 3rd and 7 or more. The only way I see M-town in trouble is getting behind SD early and stumbling with penalties or some costly turnover on their first or second offensive possession.
I have a tentative plan to go see the Game and sit amid my hated rival and yell words of support. Not an easy thing for the GA bloodstream - and years of high cost therapy and shock treatment may be needed in the years that follow, just to correct the damage. I may even wear TC colors or V jacket to make clear my love/hate conflict. This one we cannot let get away. Go Cats...NB - finish strong!
Llamas will be ok, nothing to serious...no practice for a few days but should be back for Saturday night.
where is my post from this morning?
Any info on the extent of Llamas' injury??? Hoping for a quick recovery.
Mr. Melendez has only been to 1 KARES game since his arrival at PSN.
So do not expect him to be at this game.
Maybe he will come watch a home game next year.
Championship games should be played at a neutral site. You should still have a coin flip to determine who is the home team but if your facility can not host both teams fans equally than there has to be something done to correct that "huge" advantage. Both teams have earned the right to be playing in the Championship game, there is no next game for either, so make it a level playing field for both. Knowing the Linfield folks, they will be on the phone first thing in the morning asking for that netural site. Arcadia High School would be a perfect venue to host this very equal contest.
Ga; Thanks for tuning in. Whittier Christian played their smartest game probably in their schools history the other night against the Cats. No Huddle, simple pass plays, off tackle plays, etc... must commend them. They were actually more prepared than their counterparts from the Olympic league. But this is the Final game of the season and I think that every player will bring out their A game and having Nick at the helm is going to be the difference. Your team leader is who handles the ball before every offensive play and I wouldn't trade him for the world in a finals game. DeShawn is starting to heal and his speed is unparalleled against most of Monrovia's opponents, this will be his time to shine along with his teammates Bubba Johnson and De La Nuez. We will see a different kind of battle from San Dimas but in the end Monrovia should win in championship fashion. Then knowing Maddox it's back to the weight room to build those bodies for next season. Monrovia's defense should keep San Dimas in check with the run. We are probably a second faster than most defense's they have faced all season in our ground coverage and that makes a huge difference on how they will play their offense. As most teams have found out, stay away from the pass. Dujaun Jones along with Jay Henderson and Derrin Jenkins & Charlie Cimmarusti have been batting them down or taking them too the house. I feel that San Dimas is a good match-up for Monrovia because of how they play. Monrovia seems to get up for teams like the Saints and plays at another level. Although they have played earlier this year and the score seemed lopsided the Saints will probably pull out a bag of trick plays to keep them in the game. A Saturday game at Citrus is going to be pretty exciting for both teams and somewhat of a neutral field for both. I have Monrovia winning not only for the pride of the City but for the Pride of the RHL. Next season will also be a great season for the Cats bringing back 75% of their team to do battle all over again. GO CATS! THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE.
O-cat - M-town
Cimarrusti - thanks for coming back after the injury!
The onsides recovery - huge deal!!
BEWARE THE TWICE IN ONE SEASON MOJO
It is rooted in fact and just because you whacked the Saints once, means only that a small psychological advantage is yours to hold...and it Ain't Enough to assure anything.
Like Cimmarusti, many others are playing hurt or trying to nurse back from being hurt. Monrovia has the depth to overcome this, in fact there are those who are just waiting their chance to shine.
Eliminate the penalties and BRING THE DEFENSE!!!!!!
Put the weak RIO HONDO league on the map.
PLEASE RELEASE RANT FROM THE BLOG EDITOR DEVICE!
some thoughts on RHP and the posts below...
Up front, I know little to nothing about Rio Hondo Prep. It does make me a little envious to hear the repeated theme of a coaching staff able to "gel" a group of kids and get the sbsolute best out of them, regardless of Day 1 talent level. Envious because that was what Temple City had going for them in 08 and years before. Even on off years when the skill dudes were not there, TC always fought and clawed and made the playoffs...almost always on the back of great "team" effort. 11 straight years.
When we went to La Puente in 07 CIF, truthfully we were not very good, but somehow that group played well beyond their means and stunned the league champion Warriors on their home field. I remember hearing the LP side laughing over the PA when the announced our crappy record prior to kickoff.
My point is it looks to me like the RHP faithful are riding an outstanding wave and have something they should fight to hold onto. That is where 98% of your energy should be focused. The results speak entirely for themselves.
Personally I hate "dirty" football. I have never seen Salesian play and cannot comment on their style of football. If it was unsportsmanlike and malicious in nature, then first in line for rebuke should be the Salesian coaching staff, because hard hitting and aggressive - and cheap shots are not the same thing....and they DO NOT CHANGE OVERNIGHT. The mentality and atomosphere of "allowance" must exist, where a player feels he can spear or hit after the whistle, with no coach or teammate ragging him for his actions. In fact, he may be accustomed to sideline praise for such inappropriate moves.
Last year, Paraclete was the #1 cheap shotter in MidValley...plays away from the ball, late hits out of bounds, flying hits into a player pile up. The refs eventually caught up with them...and made it clear by flagging even the slightest questionable hit as the playoffs progressed, threatening ejections and sighting Paraclete as the instigator, strictly on their history of actions, not necessarily the proof at hand.
Keep your focus on YOUR game and avoid being drawn into a pissing match over who said what. That is not your strong point and won't benefit the Kares down the stretch. One cannot help but be impressed with the passion and support shown your program. Great job to the kids and best of luck ahead!
& pm Saturday. Yes Paul Finchamp was there. Sitting on the hill, front row at 40 yard line.
Tom S, we won the coin flips to determine who gets homefield advantage. Yes games on Saturday but Im not sure if it's 7:00 or 7:30. Of course you can sit on the hill ! As long as you cheer for Rio!
Rio:
How did you guys get a home field for a championship game. I thought you had to use a neutral field?
Game is next Sat at 7:00? I think I'll make the drive over. Can I sit on the hill? Man that would be great but I'll have my MHS hat on.
Finchamp?????
What I read is a bunch of s**t, talking about the field, we'll be back.Yeah, a small field, and it is... Ok adults this is for the kids!!! ...we all have aggression...lets stand back and teach our kids, or maybe there's a lesson they can teach us! There's a lot of good statements on both sides...but this isn't the time or place for the adults to play the grudging match...I do thank you for all the great and positive comments.... as a parent, I haven't heard anything from the "men"... let the "men" play..and they will prevail. Blogs are cool, but don't loose perspective, please...the "men" played like they never have before!...kudos to all the young guns who stepped up!!! Great job!!!...couldn't have done it without you!!! For Cris, Charles and JT...Godspeed..
Tom S, game's at RHP. It should be a great game!
Oh, and you guys have the best cheesburgers around. And you can't beat the price even though it takes a few minutes to get your order. Well worth the wait at your concession. You might want the clean up the visitor's restrooms. Man do they stink!
To all the RHP fans:
I can only say, get over it. You’ve got a tough battle coming up and injury’s to heal. If you look at the fist post on this blog I said, “We heard much about how tough they were and how they played dirty but we walked away with a 52 - 6 win at their field.” You better get ready for Linfield Christian. MHS lost to them at our first game this season and I’ll tell you they will give you the toughest game you’ve had this year. Was P. Finchamp at your semi game last night? As a respected poster here I’d love to hear his take on last night’s game. And to your sandlot field, hey home field advantage.
Where will the championship game be? I’d like to be there.
Wow! What a game! Both teams truly played their hearts out! Salesian proved themselves a very physical and well coached team. Those guys deserve a lot of credit for their performance out on the field. The game of football is VERY emotional for these young men. I think the Kares have finally faced a team with as much heart and desire that they put into every single play. The Kares have steamrolled through teams all year long and it seemed like they met their match this past Saturday. It must've been very humbling for the Kares to face a team who is physical, strong, and emotional. The Mustangs showed the Kares they can be defeated! I think for us RHP fans, it must've felt different that a tough team comes to Field 1 and almost outplays us in that fashion. I've played many football games in my day and never have I met ANY opponent out there trying to deliberately hurt me or my fellow teammates. Call the Salesian players all the names you want, they played with a lot of heart and emotion, the most I have EVER seen in any opponent of the Kares. Their fan-base was loud, huge, and emotional as well, a little more than the Kares are used to as well. But their fans were also very supportive and respectful as well. I worked in the concession stand for 90 minutes through the halftime rush and beyond and NEVER heard or saw any form of disrespect towards us workers with the exception of one woman who received the wrong order. In fact, it was a JOY to serve the Salesian fans! They were kind and patient. Perhaps there were instances here and there where I could be proven wrong, but that can't be said for all the Salesian fans. Whether we were intimidated by the fans or the players themselves, or maybe we aren't used to being outdone in our home field, it is unfair to call names over to the other side. Salesian has an excellent football program and a passionate fan-base.
As for the current situation, the Kares now need to begin preparing for a tough Linfield team. In the past, Linfield has proven themselves to be BIG, TOUGH, and AGGRESSIVE. The Kares have proven themselves tough all year round and need to bring the pain just one more time. We have many young men playing with injuries, from Cowell separating his shoulder, to Parker and Quintero with mild concussion; from Llamas taking a trip to the hospital with a neck injury, to JV quarterback Rivera with a broken arm (who, by the way, bravely suited up in the fourth quarter with a cast willing to go in). This may be the toughest set of guys I've ever watched play. The Kares epitomize what it is to play team football though last night. The Kares were without a quarterback, starting linebacker, corner, safety, punter, holder, backup quarterback, and JV quarterback, and still held off a great team. Hats off the the unsung heroes: Jake Hanna, Adam Villalobos, Wes Mosher, Alex Tayco, and more. These young men are constantly in the shadows, never seeing the headlines, sometimes even going unnoticed on the sideline despite only haveing 25 guys suit up. The Kares would be nothing without you guys. But you guys prove to all you are a complete team. There is no individual getting it done out there, no Nick Bueno to run wild all over opponents or other highlight players to take over the headlines with individual performances. You, Kares, are a TEAM. Work hard to preserve the brotherhood you have shared for one more game of football game, for one more chance to make something out of your 10 month football season.
*Mr. Melendez, how about making it out to the RHP game this weekend and watch the Kares get it done in good football fashion. Bueno and Ramirez have seen the front pages enough. Come watch the Kares football TEAM get it done. No individuals with great ability, speed or strength. Just your average high school guys playing above average TEAM football.
-Respectfully
RHP football fan (and friendly RHP concession worker)
Please know that not all comments from RHP fans reflect the feelings of the rest of us. We were so proud of our team last night. It was an amazing game. From our side, some of the hits looked a little 'over the top' but that doesn't mean our guys weren't doing the same thing. I think that unfortunately that's the nature of the game. And as someone said previously, no one wants to see any player seriously injured. The Lord has blessed us, and all of last night's injuries were not serious with everyone home safe. As to the field, we do the best we can with little funds. We would love to have a great field for whomever comes to play there. Now, as to some of the comments from our current and/or previous RHP students... these coming from college prep students??? They should be ashamed of themselves. One insisted on calling the Salesian team "IDOITS." If you're going to call someone a name, at least spell it correctly! I assume you meant "idiot"? I promise you that my children have had a much better education at RHP than that. While Mr. Collins is an ardent RHP fan, he doesn't represent the views of all of us, and I have to agree that his comments were uncalled for. It is quite hypocritical to blast the players for playing dirty and then profess to wanting to do the same thing.
I think that last night's game on our side was a wonderful testament to excellent coaching, fantastic team work, amazing dedication and above all, the Lord's Blessing on our team. And again I apologize for some of the less than stellar comments from RHP fans.
Yes, it was a great game. Cant deny there was horrible officiating, bad calls were made both ways. Emotions were crazy for both sides. My biggest gripe is salesians total disrespect for the National Anthem. I have been deployed and going to be deployed again. Yelling "Mustangs" before the song is over is complete disrespect for something that I and others have not only risked our lives for, but that some have died for. There is no need to change the National Anthem, it is fine how it is.
BRING IT HOME RIO!!! OORAH
RHP you can have the last word and say anything that makes you feel better about yourselves. I'd heard great things about RHP from a former parent who now has their son playing for Damien. He is an outstanding athlete and an even better person. I would like to think RHP played a large part in his development although from some of the comments I have read I'm left to wonder.
As I have said before, Salesian wishes RHP well and will pray for a speedy recovery for any players who may have been injured in this dangerous sport we love to play. Every parent hopes their son survives a season without major injury but that may not always be the case.
I still do not understand the insistence of parents needing to justify some inner demons by writing such vile comments about our school . Salesian is a physical team but they were not the bigger team. They were the under dogs in the game for a reason.
What are the RHP fans asking for? Do you expect anyone to say we were dirty or classless when our comments continue to say the opposite. RHP has shown what sort of class with their "I'd go to jail" comments? Better yet where have the classy RHP bloggers been who should have said M. Collins comments were uncalled for and out of line? I'm still waiting...
Have the last word and make sure it's one that reflects the class, dignity and character you so want from others...thus far your comments RHP don't reflect your players conduct.
God day and good luck.
I'm not whining. I'm excited! I did read it. Just cuz he can't say stupid doesn't mean the players share his values. I was closer to the action than any of you and I saw what was going on.... I'm glad your players showed a little class and didn't start a fight after the game... The field is perfectly safe. If you hadn't lost, the field wouldn't have been a problem for you. You just blame the refs and the field for your loss. So according to your fans, it was the refs fault that you guys hit us late and that you guys fumbled, right?... I talk to the players all the time! They said it was a dirty game so what do you have to say to that??... We'll gladly play you next year at your place since you guys can't handle our field... You guys complain just as much. Also, where did all the trash talking go?? Before the game, you guys were raving about your team! What happened?? Let the players do your talking cuz you made them look bad.
For those who like Top Level Football...
OAKS CHRISTIAN vs SERRA, CHARTER OAKS vs DIAMOND RANCH & the PAC 5 Final. I'm also hoping CRENSHAW wins big and gets a CIF bowl berth.
PASADENA BULLDOGS won the BIG EAST Championship (Cinncinnati #80 WR Armon Binns game winning TD) and the UNDEFEATED NEW ORLEANS SAINTS DB Chris McAlister forced fumble in OT to set up game winning field goal.
Kares,
Why are you still whining?? See Moose's response pppplllleeeeaaaasssseeeee!
Moose....
Well said!!
Game was closer than it should have been. With Parker, Llamas, and Quintero at 100%, it wouldn't even have been competitive. It's sad how your team can't beat us even with our 5th string quarterback playing most of the game. Better luck next year!
There's a difference between overly aggressive and dirty. Watch how Linfield plays next week, they're overly aggressive, you guys were just dirty. But I'm not complaining anymore, we came up with the win, that's all we care about. But never think again that just because you guys have way bigger players and have twice as many players suited up, that's it's gonna be an easy game. Your fans underestimated us, and I bet you didn't think we'd push you guys back. Never think again that you can push around the Kares and get away with it. Anyways, goodluck to you guys. Hopefully we meet up next year.
rio is that what you got out of the game really? you have one of your fans come on here and say openly he would have been thrown in jail if he heard a kid, a minor, yelling or cursing...which didn't happen. no parent from salesian would allow that! my Dad and Mom to this day won't allow "stupid" being said in our house and I'm 50!
After a hard fought game the best RHP bloggers can say is we're classless? So which is it? Did we hit you hard...yes! Did we make mistakes that hurt us..yes! Dd we help you up...yes! Did we shake hands...yes! Has any team this year said we're riugh and physical...yes! Has any team this year said we're dirty...NO! Has any team said we lack class...NO!
WE have come on here and said three things...the field is unsafe, the officiating was poor and both teams played their hearts out. That's all everyone needs to concentrate on.
Ask your players how rough it was out there and then ask your self why no single player was ejected. Why no single player was issued a warning. Why the refs never once pulled coaches or captains aside...not once! So what are you talking about?
Salesian was 1-9 last year. This year they were 10-2 before a clerical error caused 4 wins to be forfeited. RHP was a solid returning Championship team and played that way...why ruin a great game by making outrageous comments about our fans, our students and our team?
Enjoy the victory, hope you win the Championship and we'll see you next year when our coaches have a full year with our players. Just remember that next year we will hit you harder, play smarter and will compete thru the whistle. ...know that. That's physical football and that's the way we play...but never dirty.
Ask any team that has played us over our school's history...you will get hit. When it's all over we shake hands and wish you well. The game is played on the field and any hurt feelings should end when the whistle blows.
Maybe I'm wrong but did Salesian players not wish your players well? Win a Championship so we know if we had to lose ...we lost to the best team in our division...next year we will do it again.
God bless our sons who fought like men last night....and let's stop being poor examples to our communities.
Rhp fan,
We can coulda, shoulda, woulda all day about what might have happened. The bottom line is injuries are part of the game my friend. Don't whine about Salesian being overly agressive. Somtimes you come up against teams like that. You just have to "cowboy up" and your boys certainly did.
Now please stop complaining. Y'all got the win.
I never thought I'd say this, but....bring back the Maranatha fans
my definition of an idoit is lossing focus of the main goal if ur playing football in highschool with out the intention of winning a cif title then u are an idoit
SALESIAN = IDOITS
Yeah moron, I was at the game! I was on the sidelines! Obviously at the end, neither team was getting owned cuz our best players were hurt. YOU KNOW that in the beginning, when we were at full strength, we were running all over you guys. Watch the film, the film never lies.
RHP Fan: AKA I know we play dirty,
Were you at the game or did somebody tell you about it? With under three minutes to go in the game RHP was 5 yards and a fumble away from watching the CIF Championship game from the bleachers. How did Salesian get owned?
The KARES never get this much blog action. I Should have went to that game instead of Monrovia.
Great game WILDCATS, stay focus on the prize.
The only team that can beat you are yourselves.
Salesian should just quit playing football. They got owned by a rio hondo team that was missing three key players and still couldn't win. Rio Hondo is and will always be the better football team. Will go to your place and still show you how to play the game. All you Salesian fans who say it was a hard game is right but also your team was dirty a lot of the times. Late hitting Charles Q after he scored. Throwing a open handed punch to Cody C. You guys just being dirty cost you guys the game. Sucks for the guy who tried to jump the count you cost them cif everyone watching the game knew it was coming.
My wife and I wanted to geet a burger from the Rio snack bar. The people from Salesian were cursing and yelling at the kids working in the snack bar. They appeared to be drunk. Collins statement about some people from Salesian is accurate.
Rio,
An idiot will knock you on your ass and stand over you while telling you "there is more where that that came from if you get up". He most certainly would not offer you a hand and help you up. It was no doubt a VERY physical game that lacked discipline but to call these kids classless is; simply classless.
But you call it what you want.
Be proud of your boys. They were certainly in a prize fight and on the ropes, yet they stood their ground and never gave up.
Congratulations to Monrovia and RHP...is there something in the water at RHP that builds champions?
Monrovia, it takes a lot of character to win close games. You have done that three times: San Marino, Paraclete and Whittier Christian. BUT, clean up the penalties! You can't go through the motions this week! Hustle and move your feet to get into the right position and you will eliminate the holding penalties that were so costly to the offense.
5 touchdowns: 2 on O, 2 on D, 1 on SP. That is a testament to talent AND hard work AND good coaching. However, all those penalties suggest sloppy play. Clean it up. Take what is yours this week.
salesian was dirty we all know that they hit us late and then tried to cover it by helping us up. they shouldnt have a football... football is dangerous enough without a bunch of idoits just out there to hit people. rio was running all over salesian and if we had all of our players it wouldnt have been a game. salesian u got no class no discipline and you got no championship game. btw, our field is perfectly fine the only people to complain about it is the team that loses on it.
LETS GO RIO CIF 2009!!!
RHP83:
You said it alright....it was a great game and cannot stop reading about it! Both teams played their hearts out. Congratulations to both teams for their respective seasons.
Salesian, you gave RIO a run for their money. Keep your heads up, you battled them all the way to the end. Great game!
RHP, you showed guts and heart playing without key players due to injury and playing along side those who were not at 100% because of injury.
To the injured players and their families. Our prayers are with you guys for a full and speedy recovery.
To Charles Quintero, Nick Preciado (as Melendez puts it-young studs!) and the young replacements who kept getting going hit after hit, you are incredible.
To Jake Hanna, QB after two years?! What a gutsy performance kid....you did great!
To Cody Cowell, most of us know you are hurt and not at 100%, your strength, determination and dedication to this team shows. Great diving TD catch early in the game and what a crushing fumble causing hit at the end of game. That kind of performance over and over again cannot be overlooked.....Just one phrase for you kid ......PLAYER OF THE YEAR!
To all the RHP players, from the sidelines to the field, all of you, your play is that of superb TEAMWORK AND BROTHERHOOD. CONGRATULAIONS!!!
I completely agree with anonymous. The game was played in a manner that was more physical than most. Salesian always plays physical but not dirty. In all honesty the coaches lost the game for the Mustangs as they were unable to keep their heads and address the late hits and mistakes. Both teams played hard nosed and in reality it is true if Salesian wasn't able to beat a team that had so many players injured than they didn't deserve the win and the better team won. It was Salesian's first Semi Final Game and maybe we just wanted it too much and forgot to play error free football..especially down the stretch.
Either way I was very proud of my Mustangs and the season they had. Next year we will be stronger, better prepared and smarter...so watch out!
Best of luck in the Championship Game Rio Hondo Prep...you played with heart tonight and that is always the mark of a true Champion.
Salesian is a proud school and wishes a speedy recovery and continued success to all the RHP players, especially Llamas who was a stud up to that point.
See you next year when we can do it again.
Sorry..Last post was from me.
Mike Colins,
Knock it off already!! If the officials thought the penalties were so blatant thay would have thrown the guilty parties out of the game....As a Prep League Dad, we are simply not accustomed to this physical style of play. These guys were agressive...not dirty. Both teams were knocking the !#$* out of one another. Injuries so happen to be part of the game.
Salesian had every chance to win this game; but they did not. I will not complain about the field, or the referees. Bottom line....you cannot turn the ball over "twice" in the red zone and expect to win the game. RHP showed "ganas" when their "go to guys" were sidelined.
Be happy with that and move on.
To Charles Quintero.... get well soon young man. It was evident you were injured and not 100 percent; however, you kept re-entering the game and never quit.
To the Rio Hondo Prep Community... please accept a heartfelt prayer to Chris Llamas and his family.
Bring home another title!!
You know it was a good game when you are blogging at 2:00am, that never happens.
Read my post again. The field is legal because CIF say it is, granted it is not the best looking set up, but legal.
And I NEVER stated your school or yours boys are classless, I have been to Salesian many times and have always been treated with kindness and as "one of the family".
Unsafe field for sure:
Yes, it is not one of the greatest fields around, but it is a legal field approved by CIF. I am a Catholic sir and we all know that being from one of the biggest religions has its perks, (like plenty of money to upgrade and/or maintain fields as they wish).
RIO does not come from such a powerful financial backing. They are a community not based on big money but rather that of faith, family, and devotion to the youth of today. So they play on fields maintained by the students, coaches and volunteers. It is the best they can do for now! Can you do better without the money?! I doubt it!!!!
By the way, maybe the penalties ended up lopsided because your players were not able to control their emotions and thus let the worst of those emotions take over their game. Do not blame the kids for they act as they are taught....blame their coaches for not teaching them better!
It was a personal foul after the play was over. Therefore, the down counted and they marked off 15 to make it 2 and 20. Salesian had gained 5 yards on the 1st down play. The Salesian running back gave an open palm to the face of the Rio player that tackled him. It was deserved. Salesian shot themselves in the foot. Could of easily won this game if not for stupid mistakes. Rio did everything possible to hand them the game (fumbles, bad snaps, hb pass int, etc.)
Dave Martinez, it was one of your MANY late hits. Please watch the film! You'll realize how you don't know what you're saying, last time I checked, knocking someone down after the whistle blows is a late hit, but I don't know, maybe they changed the rule on me. Blame the players, not the refs.
You were there?
What was the call when Salesian had the ball on the RHP 5 yard line with less tahn 3 minutes to go in the game? I missed the call but it gave Salesian the ball 2nd Down on the 20? Lose of down and a 15 yd penatly? What call was that on a no gain at the 5? Holding doesn't happen on a no gain QB sneak! Break that one down please.
What a sham:
I was there....if you were there then I guess you missed the 65 yards in penalties that the refs called on RHP on their opening drives! I agree the refs weren't the greatest, but the calls were made for both sides. Once the RHP boys settled down, it was the Salesian players that racked up self inflicting penalties with their late hits and unsportsmanlike play. By the way, the mound you speak of was behind your bleachers....I guess that is where your boys would end up when insisting on hitting and pusing the RHP players long after the whisle.
Mike Collins:
I agree that some of the game was shameless, (late hits, and late dog piles just to cause harm, blows to the head while a player was down), however lets not call the entire Salesian team classless. Some of those boys played their hearts out and I witnessed a few of them interacting respectfully with some RHP players after the game.
As for the game:
Congratulations to the RHP players who prevailed in the name of sportsmanship. They never gave up, they battled all the way, they hung in their with their hearts and souls. Their game was one of the gutsiest performances I have ever seen in high school football. Congratulations to the coaches who have prepared these boys for this season in more ways than one! YOU DESERVED THE WIN BECAUSE YOU ALL EARNED IT TOGETHER!!!
RHP83 how do you play on a field that has a sideline rubbing up to a mound of dirt four feet high from the 15 to the back of the end zone. That's ridiculous. They dont even allow an unsafe field in CYO much less CIF. I dare you to post an over head shot of the field and see what other's think. Figure of the disparity in penalties yet? Try 5 times as many against Salesian.
Enjoy the win, your players deserved it but please refrain from calling Salesian classless that wasn't the case.
Any updates on the injured players?
M Collins wow what a tuff guy,
Youre the one who's full of crap!! This is football, you guys are so tough that the field shouldn't have been a problem, right?? I've played on there, it's not hard to handle. Then the refs were bad both ways! Not just against you guys! We'll gladly play at your place and gladly beat you guys. Btw, there was A LOT of trash talking so don't talk if you don't even know!! It's funny how you're still talking after you got beat. Give if up! Rio is a better team!! You guys could have come out with a win, but you didn't, so DON'T TALK... Let's go Rio ! CIF Champs again!
Wow, for two supporters of religious schools. You both are talking alot crap.
No one has the refs on their side, officiating has been sub-par all year long.
As for the field. Every one can't have a sweet field like you have at Salesian, but KARE field is hardly the worst and YES it is legal or CIF would sai something years ago.
It was a good game. A physical and emotional (they are still TEENAGERS)game.
Kare good win, get healthy.
Salesian tough loss, I expect to see you again next year.
Address that joke of a field? Is that end zone sideline the worst or what?
Get the final tally n penalties yet? Look at the film and get back to me? Take a look Miguel and tell me what you think?
Salesian did enough to lose the game on their own. RHP did enough to gain a lead and hold on to a hard fought win. The refs were horrible and one sided. Hope the Linfield & RHP Game is not officiated by this horrible crew. Congratulations on the win. Your players played with heart and Salesian shot themselves in the foot over and over with fumbles. That's the real story.
Mr. Collins does it do anyone any good to come on here and say you would have kicked someone a$$ and ended up in jail...as an adult? Yet accuse Salesian players of being classless? Don't you see the double standard? Violent action for a student raising his voice...if that's what happened. Was anyone threatened or harmed yet you would have attacked someone physically...enough to land yourself in jail....you sir are a moron!
As far as accusing players of shaming their religion, sir, we take our faith very seriously as I'm sure you and your loved ones do your...that's plain offensive and uncalled for. Shaming a religion is over the top and speaks to your lack of understanding of any Christian values you pretend to have yourself.
The game was physical and ended with both sides shaking hands as a sign of good sportsmanship maybe you should take a lesson from your students. You are right one, and it was one fan, went after the refs and at least 10 peopel went out to restrain him. No further incident took place before of after the game.
Saleisna is a proud Catholic All Boys school with a rich history of service an underserviced population but to say our biys should be in a prison league based on a football game is where you should stop because it it you sir who is an embarrassment both as a parent and as a spokes person for a fine school like Rio Hondo Prep.
Best of luck figuring out why adults should be examples rather than insigators
This is getting good!
To the previous poster,
You do realize that officials in the football playoffs come from neither schools' service area?
Those officials were from the South Bay Unit.
Oh yeah, that tackle on RHP's last TD was five yards seep in the EZ and he played sparingly the remainder of the game. That was not a legal hit, so I don't really understand your griping over the officials. Salesian was undisciplined and that is why they lost.
Ok so how many penalties were called on RHP in the second half.
I wait for your answer.

M. Collins you are full of crap. That field is a joke. The refs were a joke and your win is an embarrassment to fair play. How many penalties did Salesian have called on them? Enough to make your own fans laugh at us. 1at down at the 5 with less that 4 minutes to go and Salesian get stuffed for no gain...and yet the refs call at penalty on Salesian. LOng gains called back after the runner is 30 yards down the field...holding. Big time hit on that 1 ft sidelines and we get a penalty for late hit? How? Ease up on the sidleine and its a score! Hot the man out of bounds and send teh RHP flying and it's a Personal Foul...take your worthless ref earned win and stick it.
Your team was classy, your fans were loud and supportive but please don't pass it off as anything more than ohysical football kicked your a$$es up and down the fied.
How many times did your players stay down after legal hits...plenty. Next year we'll play at our house and beat the tar out of us worse..legally and without the help of homer refs.
M Collins no one is being a bad sport here and we all wish you well in the Championship Game but come on...do't talk about class as if it's a given you have any yourself. and fix that horrible field...is that field even legal? what a hazard.
Be honest M Collins what was the final tally on penalties...27 to 3 at last count.
Football is physical and both teams deserve the right to play it that way, especially in the playoffs. Great kids on both sides so don't pretend it was anything but hard hitting...there was no trash talking just physical football on both sides of the ball by both teams. Ask your players. How many of them were taken off the field? Physical football. Hope the ambulance kid is doing better...no one wants anyone injured but those things happen. He'll be in our prayers tonight.
M Collins...cut the tough guy nonsense...the hospital is were you would have ended up...and I was standing by the snack bar during half time no one was yelling at anyone.
What a sham,
Perfect name for you. Did you see the first series when Rio Hondo had three big plays called back on penalties, so don't give me that one-sided officials garbage.
Secondly, Salesian was very undisciplined and got several dead ball penalties after the play including a horse collar after #29 for Rio Hondo scored a TD five yards seep in the end zone.
After the game, a Salesian supporter actually ran onto the field and chased the officials as they were leaving the field. That was among the most classless acts I have even seen on a CIF playing field in any sport.
It appears that Salesian players and supporters may need a lesson on deportment and etiquette during HS athletic contests.
It amazes me that how a school of nearly 400 boys and one that suited up more players than Rio Hondo has boys in its entire HS can't beat a team that lost three key players during this game, including the first and second string QB as well as the top running back.
Rio Hondo won this game on guts and the fact the undisciplined Salesian squad jumped offsides on a 4th and inches on the RHP 25 with under a minute to go in the game. But I guess that was the officials fault as well.
Is it just me or has the officiating for games this year been sub-par.
I have watch several games this year and seen obvious penalties not flagged.
M.Collin let it go.
Do not go to their level with your remarks
Enjoy the VICTORY
THE BETTER TEAM WON.
ENJOY.
Campa picked Whittier Christian to beat Monrovia on the ESGV blog. THAT was OBVIOUSLY the right choice.
He may as well pick San Dimas now to win it all. You know he wants to...
Is it really that hard to be an objective analyst, guy???
Rio lost 4 starters due to a classless team. Three of the 4 injuries came from late hits. As proof of the classness of Salesian, they actually yelled at kids who volunteered to cook burgers. Of the 4 starters who were hurt three of the injuries were inflicted after the whistle. Salesian should be place in a prison league.
My name is Mike Collins
What a disgusting officiating crew in the Salesian / Rio Hondo Prep Game. Coach Hiatt should file an official protest. What a joke. At times even the RHP Fans were laughing it was so predictable.
Rio Hondo Prep's field is ridiculous for any playoff level game much less one to determine a Championship Game. How CIF allows that unsafe field is beyond me. The sideline near one end zone literally is one foot from a mound of dirt about 4 ft. high. Every time a play went in that direction Salesian was hit with a Personal Foul Penalty as if sending a player flying into the mound/wall of dirt was illegal. Holding, personal fouls, every thing imaginable the refs called on Salesian.
What a crock of crap!
Rio Hondo Prep player played tremendously, were well coach and could have competed without any help from the refs. I hope they win. No sour rapes here...Salesian had their chances but lost. Fair enough.
How those refs will sleep tonight is beyond me.
In my 10 years of attenidng Rio games Salesian was easily the team with the least class. I have never seen so many late hits. They were disgusting and should have had some players removed from the game.
they were so classless they were yelling at my son who volunteered in the snack bar to provide food. They should be happy I did not hear them yelling at my son.
I would be in jail. Had they not been so weak Rio would have won as I preditcted : 34 to 14. They are so classless, we had 5 sheriff's cars and a helicopter at the end.
Salesian out nubered Rios 10 to 1...they need discipline..My name is M. collins....you shamed your religion. PUNKS
Great job KARES.
Get healthy and good luck in the Big GAme.
M-TOWN
Run the big man!!
the days of being a "sports writer" have changed big time.
You need to be a master blogger now as well...CoveritLive is cool, but while keeping you up to date - it also tortures you for not being there and seeing the action live. Secondhand just can't hang with Firsthand.
Stang Fan - what is your Avatar? Looks like a peace dove gone Hendrix?
Hoping both Monrovia and RHP pull off victories in tonight's semi games. Keep the WSGV in the hunt for CIF championships. Looks like RHP will have their hands full with Salesian but I remember when MHS played them three years ago in the quarter finals. We heard much about how tough they were and how they played dirty but we walked away with a 52 - 6 win at their field. Whitter Christian will give Monrovia a battle but I'm sure Monrovia will come out with a win.
