Boys Soccer: St. Francis proves it belongs on top

| | Comments (92) |

Above: St. Francis celebrating an impressive win over rival Loyola on Friday night.

Well, the verdict is in: St. Francis is still the No. 1 team in the WSGV. There's little, if any, evidence that proves otherwise. Friday was a good day for boys soccer. At 3 p.m. you had No. 2 La Cañada hosting No. 3 Monrovia. The Spartans won 2-0 to keep their Rio Hondo League record intact at 3-0. My honest opinion is the Wildcats had better individual talent, with Mathias Ibañez leading up front, but La Cañada was a much better team tactically and is fundamentally sound. Cameron Meeker and Matt Cañatta lead the way for the Spartans. Both draw plenty of attention and both found away to create scoring opportunities. First-year La Cañada coach Barry Riston is doing a wonderful job over there. Things may be different in the second-leg, but the site may not. Monrovia's field is currently under construction, meaning the second meeting could be played again at La Cañada High.

After the La Cañada game I headed over to St. Francis (4-8-1, 2-2-1) to check out the Golden Knights against rival Loyola (7-6-3, 1-1-1). The stands were packed and the crowd was boisterous as expected. St. Francis took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play after Christian Swart faked a defender and took another step inside the penalty area before unleashing a blistering shot into the far corner of the net. St. Francis lost quite a handful of players to the developmental academy, and they're not the sophisticated team it was last year when it went on to win the CIF Southern California Regional. But what they lack in sophistication the Golden Knights more than make it up with relentless effort. St. Francis outplayed Loyola in every facet of the game. The Golden Knights showed signs of great things to come. Sewart continually slipped through defenders and pressured the keeper. When Loyola did make a push up front, the Cubs were stymied by misdirected shots or stellar deflections by the St. Francis defense. All in all, the Golden Knights proved they belong at the No. 1 spot despite my being ridiculed for placing them there because of a record that is all but misleading.

You had fantastic good ideas here. I did a search on the subject and discovered almost all peoples will agree with your blog. Even people with great credit are having difficulty getting home loans.

Cant believe the giants didnt make the playoffs!

This guy is flat out crazy and really sneaky.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

How is it that just anybody can write a weblog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything extremely impressive --more like youve painted a pretty picture about an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, right here. But do you definitely think that you can get away with adding some quite pictures and not definitely say anything?

Wishing you Happy New Year 2011! Surprisingly! It's like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, just like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pictures to drive the message home a bit, besides that, this is good blog post. A good read. I'll certainly be back.

Dont blame me - I cant agree with that point of view.

I must say, as considerably as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a terrific grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from a lot more than one angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just going for a gut reaction to the topic. Think about adjusting your personal believed process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.

I'd prefer to thank you for that efforts you've got created in writing this article. I'm hoping the exact same very best do the job from you in the long run as well. In reality your creative writing abilities has inspired me to begin my own BlogEngine blog now.

Be Brief yet Complete. It is vital that you keep your letter brief. A quality cover letter should be able to capture and keep the attention span of the reader. The best way to do it is to keep your cover letter short and yet complete as possible.

Be practical while crafting an Objective Statement. Avoid making bulky goal statements just for the sake of impressing your recruiters. Do not mix up your professional and personal goals in this section. Always remember that your CV is a qualified document! Your Objective statement should be precise and to-the-point.

Well done to Petter Solberg for coming a thrilling 2nd in the Welsh Rally GB 2010 - sliding around a bit there though!

Wow, amazing blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I hope you never stop! This is one of the best blogs Ive ever read. Youve got some mad skill here, man. I just hope that you dont lose your style because youre definitely one of the coolest bloggers out there. Please keep it up because the internet needs someone like you spreading the word.

People consume hours and hours reading about how to write and revise a resume, but most of them do not make use of that knowledge in the proper way, not even when they have an explicit example in front of them.

Concentrate on your leadership skills, in case you are applying for a higher post. Read your Curriculum vitae at least twice, before getting it printed and offering it to a recruiter.

By the way, Pasadena vs Muir got cancelled half way through the game last wednsday. They were tied 0-0. The game was going back and forth yet Pasadena was still more dominant. It we be played today 1/25 at Pasadena at 3:30.

OK Miguel,

You did your homework, you went to both games, as I did, and you picked St Francis over La Canada... that's fine... I still disagree, but at least now you've seen both the teams so you can speak from experience.

But, holy cow, I'm SHOCKED to hear you say Monrovia has more individual talent than La Canada. Ibanez did NOTHING against La Canada... no shots, no good passes even, he was a complete non-factor... Cannata and Meeker and even Arash Mahboubi on La Canada are ALL better attacking players than him. Gomez (#7) looked dangerous for Monrovia, but again, zero shots.
La Canada took a two goal lead after 10 minutes and then just sat on it... I like the little freshman midfielder that Monrovia used in the second half, James Alewine (#6)... he's going to be a good player.
But, La Canada's defense is awesome - 8 goals against in 17 games???? And, Monrovia never seriously threatened to score. What talent advantage?

It does feel a little like you're just trying to justify your own original pick.

GCH said:

They prove they belong at the number 1 spot by beating a team only a single game above .500? Interesting reasoning

logic said:

Using that same logic Miguel, you had Rio Hondo Prep ranked fifth in your final football poll. Are you saying they're the fifth best team in the area? They would have beaten Rosemead, La Canada and Pasadena

DudeCmon said:

Stop spending so much time trying to defend you decision to have them number one. We get it.
