Football: Riley in roundtable interview with ESPN.com

| | Comments (12) |

St. Francis' Dietrich Riley was one of four athletes who took part in a roundtable interview prior to the 2010 Under Armour All-American Game. Here's an answer that got me smiling a bit, though I'm sure I'm a part of the reason Riley dislikes most about the crazy recruiting process:

Question: What was the worst experience you've had during the recruiting process?

Dietrich Riley: I must say the reporters. That was really, really stressful and it came to a point where I was tired and wanted to announce early. They would call me during finals week, I couldn't get any of my work done. They would just continually bug me to the point where I would just turn my phone off. I ended up changing my number and not telling anyone and all the reporters would hit me up on Facebook and ask me why I haven't been answering their calls or returning emails and I would just lie and say 'I don't have a phone', but I did.

Guilty. Though I must say, I tried really hard not to wear him down with calling and texting. Also, the Star-News makes a cameo in the interview. To read the interview in its entirety, click here.

I love the expression. Everyone needs to express there own opinion and feel free to hear others. Keep it up :)

I really like the colors here on your blog. did you design this yourself or did you outsource it to a professional?

Apache Joe,

No doubt a recurring theme on the mind of so many of those kids en route - or even already tied into the Trojan program...and their parents. What should I do??

It is the kind of coaching change that could immensely alter the next years of USC football - and you never know what assistants will bail or remain with the program - regardless of what they say initially.

Carroll's positive intensity and commitment - and exuberance while dead center in that Alum pressure cooker -is pretty amazing.

If he was looking for another challenge - he definitelty found it.

Confused,

He was a silent commit to USC while Pete Carrol was the coach. When he left, he decided to re-consider.

Miguel,
Hope you just ignore these guys crying and crying about you writing about other sports. BB, SB, Soccer, Girls this and that, etc... We all know the only real sport people always want to know about is Football, Get over it people! The sport that starts off the year and sets the tone for the entire year is Football. So one more time...STOP CRYING!

Why does it say that Dietrich committed to SC on that Under Armour interview?

Really,

Relax.....This may be the most sought after High School player in the West SGV in the past 10 years. Plenty of people are following the story.

Have you seen any of the comments of people asking for other sports. Seriously? I liked your focus on football during season but really?

We all appreciate Dietrich, nice story, but this is not ESPN, its a local paper for local folks wanting to read about the local prep scene. Girls/Boys soccer, B-Ball, upcoming softball season, wrestling?
