Muir’s Justin Knowles hit a shot at the buzzer to lead the Mustangs to an important 54-53 win over Crescenta Valley in a key Pacific League win to keep their playoff hopes alive Monday night. Muir (9-12, 4-6) sits in fifth in the league standings and lurks behind Arcadia (11-11, 4-5) for the fourth and final playoff spot. Also on the same night, Muir coach Gamal Smalley learned that Burroughs would forfeit its 63-62 win earlier in the season, keeping Muir’s hopes for its first playoff appearance in four years alive. According to Smalley, Burroughs placed a self-imposed forfeit and stated they played an ineligible player. “We are happy with our turn around and hope to build from this with our young team,” Smalley said.
