BREAKING NEWS: La Salle's Forillo throws a no-hitter

La Salle's Allie Forillo flirted with a perfect game until the seventh inning. That's when St. Monica's Jackie Dansky, the penultimate batter and a substitute in the game, drew a walk to end Forillo's bid for perfection. She got the next batter to pop up, ending the game and giving the Lancers a dominating 9-0 win over St. Monica in the Camino Real League opener Thursday afternoon at Latter Day Saints Church in Pasadena. It's really been two great days of softball for me. First, I got to see Arcadia and Maranatha battle in an intense nonleague game Wednesday, and now La Salle. I asked Forillo how important was it for the Lancers to make a statement in the league opener. "It was really important because we wanted to show how good we really are," she said. "We had redemption on our mind because of the way we played in the Duarte Tournament." Forillo struck out 15 batters. She also went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to help her cause. La Salle takes part in the High Desert Tournament beginning tomorrow. They'll spend the night and play a doubleheader Saturday before coming back that night, and return again Monday to finish the tournament. I'll be off Friday and through the weekend. (I'm running on fumes after covering Pasadena boys basketball throughout the playoffs; covered their last four games in seven days and traveled over 700 miles in that run. It was fun, but also exhausting). I'll post some threads Friday and Sunday to let you guys have at it, and we'll get right back into it in full strength next week when Keith Lair also returns.
THURSDAY'S BOX SCORE
Camino Real League
La Salle 9, St. Monica 0
St. Monica 000 000 0 -- 0 0 3
La Salle 103 203 X -- 9 11 0

3B: Katie Smither (LS); 2B: Colleen McWilliams (LS); RBI: McWilliams (LS) 3.
Records: St. Monica 4-1, 0-1; La Salle 3-2, 1-0

Weird, I only posted the comment once.
According to the Max Preps stats Forillo had 20 K's yesterday against Burroughs (Ridgecrest) - amazing, one more and she would have struck out every out in the game!

Who was the first "no no" against, San Marino is doing an abysmal job keeping up with their stats on maxpreps.
It appears as though La Canada had a combined no hitter against San Marino on Friday.
Congrats Allie...sounds like you are top gun!
For the Maranatha bias, Floyd's perfect game was thrown against Maranatha. It was actually her second no hitter of the season

Nice Job, Michelle...Congrats!
The word on the street is that the San Marino Pitcher threw a perfect game...
am I crazy or did the Sunday box score's say that SM freshman Michelle Floyd pitched a no hitter?

rclancy - oops, obviously you're right. Although from the score I gather that in my own way I was right too.
Looks like South Pas baseball is the team to beat!
South Pas 8 Monrovia 2
Prep Fan - I think chky was referring to games that teams in Miguel's top 10 are playing rather than a reference to the quality of the game.
La Canada 1 - San Marino 0
Mayfield 17 - 0 (5 innings)
La Canada 1 - San Marino 0
No offense, but Mayfield @ Webb doesn't really qualify as a top game, unless Clancy throws another perfect game (she did a week or so ago, but didn't get much press here).
By the way, FPrep @ Glendale HS, Sat noon.
Goteamgo:
Look, I wasn’t trying to “hijack” this blog and the only reason I posted was Miguel mentioned in this article about being at the Maranatha – Arcadia game the day before. Sorry it turned out to be the first post. I’m taking nothing away from your girl, Allie’s accomplishment. I too don’t bash schools and rarely bash supporters. We all have a right at our opinion and should be able to freely post.
Will we see you tomorrow at the baseball games? I’ll be wearing a red MHS hat so look for me, OH, that might not work as there’ll be lots of red MHS hats in the stands.
Later
That game may very well be today but it is not listed on the Arcadia or Poly maxprep websites.
Don't forget : Arcadia is at Pasadena Poly today - 3:30
Top 10 games today and this weekend (all games today are at 3:30 (unless marked differently):
San Marino (3-3) @ La Canada ((6-1)
South Pasadena (3-2) @ Monrovia (5-1)
Mayfield (2-1) @ Webb (2-2 sorta)
LaSalle (3-2) vs Boron (0-2)
High Desert Classic @ 5:00PM
Mission (4-0) vs Jefferson-El Paso, Texas (0-5)
8:30AM 3/20 Sat morning @ SGM
First of All, Great Job Allie, a no hitter is hard to do against anyone, it is an accomplishment that no one can take away from you, but I am pretty sure it is not your first and it won't be your last!
goteamgo,
Don't give up your name for some fool.
The clearest give away of being an angry homer/parent (unless it is said by me, of course) is "I don't even know anyone from blah, blah, blah, but..."
illest -
I like Maranatha - I know many kids who have gone there, and it is a good school. What I don't like is the attitude of some of their supporters. I don't bash the school, I bash comments made by its supporters.
When I saw the blog, I said "great job by a great kid - let's see the comments!" and was taken aback by the first post. The kid almost threw a no-hitter, and La Salle is getting back on track. That is the story we should be commenting on, and is the "real story."
Seems like I am getting a reputation, and should change my posting name.....I'm done on this post - no value in getting into a "tit for tat" fight on comments -
Once again, a great job by a great student.
'Atta Girl, Allie... Nice job!
i dont think "goteamgo" likes maranatha very much. I'm pretty sure this happens on every post. I don't even know anyone from maranatha but your constant bashing bugs me.
Apparently, you don't get out much or know about hitting spots.
Tom S -
Very subtle - we get a great story, and it gets immediately hijacked with the first post to "Maranatha this/Maranatha that/Maranatha wins." A great accomplishment by a great kid, you sneak in a plug for Maranatha.
Anyway, back to the real story - great job by the Lancers, and Allie Forillo! Well deserved!!! Not only a great pitcher, but a great student, and well involved in the Lancer community (student government, cheerleader, etc.)
Well deserved!!!
Chkyrslf:
Sorry but my lips are sealed. I think it's a great idea Miguel has but up to him to do it and announce it.
C'mon Tom let us all in on "what you talked about"... you should have added a wink wink nudge nudge.
Allie Forillo is amazing. She is the best pitcher in the San Gabriel Valley. La Salle softball is great.
Maranatha defeated Poly 11 - 2 at Poly today.
Miguel:
Good to see you yesterday at the Maranatha - Arcadia game. The girls had a good come back for the win.
Let me know if I can help you with what we talked about
Tom
